Couple calls it quits after a week of swirling rumors. By Andrea Duncan-Mao Katy Perry and Russell Brand (file) Photo: Jeff Vespa/ Getty Images It appears that one of entertainment’s most spirited couples — Katy Perry and Russell Brand — are heading for divorce. After the two were spotted separately over the holidays — neither wearing their wedding rings — rumors of a split reached a fever pitch Thursday. Now TMZ is reporting that Russell Brand has filed for divorce in Los Angeles citing “irreconcilable differences.” Brand has released a statement, saying, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I will always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.” The couple, who met at the 2008 VMAs and married in India in 2010, have no children. Brand recently addressed the breakup rumors with Ellen DeGeneres. “There are always rumors, aren’t there? In the end, you have to just not engage with Internet technology, which is difficult because a lot of the nude women websites I quite enjoy,” Brand joked. “I’ve treated the whole Internet now like it’s a wicked little liar. Yeah. I am really happily married,” he added. “I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge.” Perry took to Twitter in November to brush off earlier rumblings. “First I’m pregnant & then I’m divorced. What am I ‘All My Children’?! #ericakane #pshhh #ifihadadollarforeverytime …,” she tweeted. As of press time, neither celebrity, both with massive followings, had addressed the court filing on Twitter. ‘New year, new money. That’s that,’ Tip tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by FLX T.I. Photo: Chris McKay/ Getty Images T.I. has a lot to celebrate this New Year’s Eve. This time last year, the King of the South was locked up, serving an 11-month sentence for a probation violation, but since his September release Tip has been on a tear, dropping a ton of new music and landing a reality show with his wife, Tiny , on VH1. Tip has some big plans for ringing in the new year, even though he tries to downplay things. “For New Year’s I’m gonna be waitin’ on F— da City Up to drop. We got a party poppin’ off down here in Atlanta, 200 Peachtree. We gonna turn up and it’s basically that,” he told MTV News nonchalantly. “Between the party and the mixtape, that’s all I got going. New year, new money. That’s that.” Tip has been dropping viral teasers for F— da City Up for about a week; the latest one, which dropped on Tuesday, shows T.I. in the studio with Dr. Dre . “Dre was here. He sent for me, and of course I answered. We really just turned up more than anything else. It was about creating chemistry,” T.I. told MTV News while in Atlanta preparing for the release of the tape. On New Year’s Eve, T.I. and his Grand Hustle fam will host a party in the Grand Atrium at 200 Peachtree in downtown Atlanta from 9 p.m. ET to 3:00 a.m. Sounds like fun.

50 Cent, Common, Others Share New Year’s Resolutions

Posted on December 29, 2011 by Benny Hollywood| Leave a comment

‘My New Year’s resolution is to quit smoking … it’s a very dirty, filthy habit,’ Travie McCoy tells us. By Jocelyn Vena 50 Cent Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images Wondering what some of the biggest names in the music industry are resolving to do come 2012? Well, wonder no more. MTV News asked some of those folks just that, and they are dishing on what their New Year’s resolutions are for the next 12 months. “Ah man, so many. So many new things to work on myself. I just got to be conscious, more conscious of myself,” 50 Cent explained. “And try and be a better judge of character with others.” Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy seems to be taking a page from Fiddy’s handbook and looking to better himself in the new year. “My New Year’s resolution is to quit smoking … it’s a very dirty, filthy habit,” he said. “But not [only] is it my New Year’s resolution to quit, but it’s also my New Year’s resolution to get my friends to quit as well.” Common opened up about the philosophical goal he hopes to achieve in the coming year. “I haven’t thought deeply on it, but I would say I just want to be great at everything I do,” he said. “Greatness.” Some celebrities are planning to look inward in the new year, and others, it seems, want to physically broaden their horizons. Jill Scott said, “I’d like to visit Europe more often next year.” Meanwhile, Evanescence ‘s Amy Lee wants to travel in order to meet more of her devoted fans. “We’re gonna make it a goal to just go to all those countries where we have fans going, ‘Hey come to my country. You’ve never been here.’ That’s sort of our goal for next year is to go everywhere and tour all the places we’ve never been and see the world,” she said. “Have some fun.” Before making those resolutions a reality, many celebrities will be out and about on New Year’s Eve looking to break loose at a number of big New Year’s parties . And MTV will also be getting in on the fun during “NYE in NYC 2012,” which will feature Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Mac Miller and more. The show airs live at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday from Times Square, where the famous ball drops. Related Artists 50 Cent Common

Adam Lambert Arrested, Jailed After Fight In Finland

Posted on December 22, 2011 by Benny Hollywood| Leave a comment

‘American Idol’ star spends hours in a Helsinki jail after a brawl with boyfriend Sauli Koskinen. By Jason Kaufman Adam Lambert Photo: Jason LaVeris/ FilmMagic It appears that when “American Idol” star Adam Lambert and his boyfriend Sauli Koskinen get into a fight, things get quite heated. How else to explain that Lambert spent several hours locked up in a Finnish jail cell following a clash with Koskinen? TMZ reports that an argument between the two started inside of a bar in Helsinki and ended up on the street. Lambert allegedly was physical with the locals who tried to separate the two. When police arrived on the scene, both men were taken into custody. Talk about a public display of aggression. Petri Juvonen, who is heading the investigation, told The Hollywood Reporter that the arrests were made at 4 a.m. Thursday outside of DTM (Don’t Tell Momma), a well-known gay club. Juvonen said that the couple was released after an interrogation. Sofia Ruusila, an ex-Miss Helsinki, reportedly was at the bar and tried to get in between the couple when the fight escalated. She claims that she was accidentally hit by Lambert in the process. Lambert and Koskinen are a true reality couple. Lambert rose to fame as a genre-shaking “American Idol” contestant, finishing second, but turning the relatively safe song choices and performances on their ear during an electrifying 2009 season. Following the conclusion of the season, Lambert came out during an interview with Rolling Stone. Koskinen made his claim to fame by winning the Finnish version of “Big Brother” in 2007. The two began dating in 2010. The trip was to be a fun one for Lambert, who tweeted in Finnish his excitement upon arrival on Wednesday that “Helsinki is a beautiful city full of beautiful people! Thank you!” Related Artists Adam Lambert

LMFAO, Mindless Behavior, More Share Holiday Gifts Not To Buy

Posted on December 22, 2011 by Benny Hollywood| Leave a comment

‘Fruitcake, it’s the most disgusting, repulsive food ever,’ Travie McCoy tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi LMFAO Photo: Jeff Fusco/Getty Images/MTV News Don’t panic, but you only have a few days left to find the perfect holiday gift. Yes, it can be daunting, and yes, it can drive you crazy, but we at MTV News are here to help. But instead of telling you what to buy this season, we asked some of your favorite stars at this year’s annual Z100 Jingle Ball concert in New York to tell us what not to put on your holiday gift list. “The worst gift you could give somebody is a gift that you got from them,” Princeton from Mindless Behavior told MTV News. Regifting is also a big no-no for Hot Chelle Rae ‘s Nash Overstreet, who said, “[The worst gift] is a gift that you got that you didn’t want, so you gave it to them.” Well, if Overstreet is looking to regift anything for his fellow bandmembers, it seems Ian Keaggy might have given him a not-so-subtle hint. “If you’re a girl and you’re looking for just a random guy gift,” Keaggy said, “a safe bet perhaps [is] socks and boxers.” Big Time Rush ‘s James Maslow agrees. “Cool funky socks, or if it’s really cold out and they’re warm socks, that could be a good gift.” If you are planning on baking instead of buying for someone this holiday season, Gym Class Heroes ‘ Travie McCoy says stay away from the fruitcake. “Fruitcake, it’s the most disgusting, repulsive food ever,” McCoy said. “Who decided to put gummy bears in bread?” But what is the absolute worst thing you can give someone? Nothing at all. “The worst is when you forget to give a gift and they got you a gift,” LMFAO ‘s Redfoo said. “So no gift is the worst gift.” What is the one gift you should never give someone? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists Lmfao Mindless Behavior

Ke$ha Calls Bob Dylan Cover ‘An Emotional Purging’

Posted on December 19, 2011 by Benny Hollywood| Leave a comment

Pop singer sings ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right’ for Amnesty International anniversary album. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha Photo: Getty Images It’s hard to associate Ke$ha with songs about anything other than hot guys, body glitter and partying. But she’s defying her usual topics of interest for human rights organization Amnesty International. The singer is one of the many musicians on the org’s Chimes of Freedom compilation of Bob Dylan’s music, out January 24. When MTV News spoke with K-Dollar Sign last week about her all-star remix of “Sleazy,” she also opened up about switching gears vocally and emotionally for her version of Dylan’s classic “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right.” “I mean, I think it’s pretty well known that he’s one of, if not my most, favorite artists of all time and … one of the most amazing lyricists as well — the original storyteller,” she explained. “So I love Bob Dylan and this was just, like, a dream. When they asked me to do a cover, I was just, like, salivating and going through all my records. It was so fun. It was the best homework assignment you could possibly have.” K’s version of Dylan’s song is a slow-burning, heartbreaking ode to the already heartbreaking classic, where she channels Dylan through lyrics like “Still I wish there was somethin’ you would do or say/ To try and make me change my mind and stay/ We never did too much talkin’ anyway/ So don’t think twice, it’s all right.” Ke$ha had originally intended to record another Dylan track, but when she heard that someone else had their sights set on it, she settled on “Don’t Think Twice,” prompting a catharsis she could never have imagined. “This song was kind of an accident. I sat down and this is the first take that I ever sang,” she recalled. “I just sat down on my bed for the first time after months of being on tour and I just started crying, and it was kind of like an emotional purging, and you can hear it on the record.” In addition to Ke$ha and her contribution, the album will feature 75 other Dylan classics recorded by nearly 80 artists including Adele, Miley Cyrus, “Glee” star Darren Criss, My Chemical Romance, Evan Rachel Wood and Sugarland. The album pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International. Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Ke$ha Related Artists Ke$ha
