Following ‘Valentine’s Day’ and ‘New Year’s,’ Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel come up with some new ideas. By Kara Warner Katherine Heigl at the L.A. premiere of “New Year’s Eve” Photo: Jordan Strauss/ Getty Images With the release of this year’s most star-studded romantic comedy, “New Year’s Eve,” just a day away, it’s time to consider what holiday director Garry Marshall might tackle next in order to add to his holiday-themed ensemble canon, which also includes last year’s hit “Valentine’s Day.” When MTV News caught up with a few of the stars of “New Year’s Eve,” we asked them to put their thinking caps on to select a worthy and appropriate holiday to write around. The task proved slightly difficult, in that not all holidays are universally celebrated and accepted. “I was actually thinking about that yesterday,” Katherine Heigl said. “It has to be universal so it can sell domestically and internationally. But what are other holidays that the whole world celebrates? Thanksgiving is out, Christmas, I guess he could do Christmas, but now that he’s done New Year’s Eve, can you do it in reverse? I don’t know. Well, I know Columbus Day is out, President’s Day is out, Memorial Day? Doesn’t everyone celebrate that?” Like Heigl, Josh Duhamel seemed to have already put thought into the question as well. “St. Patrick’s Day, yes. It’s about a crazy little leprechaun in Ireland,” he said. “Does everyone celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? You got to pick a holiday that everybody celebrates. We couldn’t do Columbus Day; even Canadians don’t celebrate that.” “Veterans Day,” offered Jake T. Austin. “I think the next film I got offered was Christmas Eve,” he joked. “Let’s do it, I’m ready!” Check out everything we’ve got on “New Year’s Eve.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Country superstar tells MTV News that 2012 project has ‘a theme.’ By Christina Garibaldi Taylor Swift Photo: Getty Images This year proved to be another amazing one for Taylor Swift . She just wrapped up the U.S. leg of her Speak Now Tour , released her new Wonderstruck perfume and unveiled her video for “Ours.” But now, Swift has her sights set on an even bigger 2012. Swift is gearing up to release her fourth album , and in an October interview, she revealed that her new songs were not about “moving on.” So when MTV News caught up with the country star at the Billboard Women in Music event , we had to ask which emotions were triggering such a personal album. “I can’t tell you, because it’s a secret,” Swift teased. “It will be unveiled when it all comes out, because they all seem to have a theme to them, the records that we’ve put out so far, and this one is no different. It’s very different in what it’s about, but it’s no different in the fact that it has its own name.” Swift was on hand at the event with another honoree, Nicki Minaj, who is also set to release her new album in 2012, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. “I love her,” Swift said of Minaj. “One of my favorite moments of the tour was when she came out at the Staples Center and sang ‘Super Bass’ with me, which was, like, the coolest thing. It was like a dream come true, so it’s amazing to get to run into her and see her around, and I’m just such a fan.” So would Swift possibly collaborate with Minaj on her next album? “I mean, we’re not working on anything right now,” Swift said. “But I would love to at some point. That would be amazing.” Are you excited for Swift’s new album? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Taylor Swift
Six-minute sequence will run on select IMAX screens before ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ showings. By Kevin P. Sullivan Christian Bale and Tom Hardy on the set of “Dark Knight Rises” Photo: Getty Images Well, it took long enough. Warner Bros. has finally pulled back the curtain on the hotly anticipated six-minute opening sequence from “The Dark Knight Rises.” /Film originally broke the story in October, reporting that a short prologue would run on select IMAX screens before showings of “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.” For over a month, the studio had remained silent on the topic, and when the AMC theater chain released a statement confirming the report , the post was removed soon afterward. When the MPAA handed down a PG-13 rating for the prologue alone, the event was all but confirmed. Now, an official statement from Warner Bros. is reiterating most everything previously said about the preview. It will last six minutes and consist of the film’s first sequence. The clip was shot on the IMAX 15 perf 65mm/70mm film that director Christopher Nolan used for several key action sequences during “The Dark Knight.” There has been much speculation about the content of the preview. This month’s issue of Empire confirmed that the prologue would introduce Tom Hardy ‘s Bane. Unfortunately for some Batman fans, as previously stated, the “Dark Knight Rises” prologue will only play before “Ghost Protocol” on screens using true 70mm IMAX projection, so theaters with the more common digital projection will not get the preview. All told, only 42 screens in the U.S. and Canada will show it. Here is a list of the theaters where you can catch the “Dark Knight Rises” prologue starting December 16: Austin, TX – IMAX Theater Austin Boston, MA – Jordan’s IMAX – Natick Boston, MA – IMAX 3D Theatre in Reading Calgary, AB – Scotiabank Theatre Chinook 16 Chantilly, VA – Udvar-Hazy Center IMAX Chicago, IL – Navy Pier IMAX Theatre Des Moines, IA – SCI IMAX Dome Theater Detroit, MI – Henry Ford IMAX – Dearborn Edmonton, AB – Scotiabank Theatre Edmonton Harrisburg, PA – Whitaker Center for Science & the Arts Houston, TX – Houston Marq*e Stadium 22 + IMAX Indianapolis – White River IMAX Los Angeles, CA – Irvine Spectrum 21 + IMAX – Irvine Los Angeles, CA – RAVE 18 + IMAX Los Angeles, CA – Ontario Palace Stadium 22 + IMAX – Ontario Los Angeles, CA – CityWalk Stadium 19 with IMAX – Universal City Madison, WI – Star Fitchburg 18 with IMAX – Fitchburg Miami, FL – AutoNation IMAX – Fort Lauderdale Minneapolis, MN – Great Clips IMAX – Apple Valley Montreal, QC – Cinema Banque Scotia Montreal Nashville,TN – Opry Mills Stadium 20 + IMAX New York, NY – Lincoln Square 13 with IMAX New York, NY – Palisades IMAX – West Nyack Omaha, NE – Star Cinema 16 with IMAX – Council Bluffs Orlando, FL – Regal Pointe Orlando Stadium 20 + IMAX Ottawa, ON – SilverCity Gloucester + IMAX – Gloucester Palm Springs, CA – Desert IMAX Theatre – Cathedral City Philadelphia, PA – IMAX at the Tropicana – Atlantic City Philadelphia, PA – Tuttleman IMAX – Franklin Institute Phoenix, AZ – Arizona Mills 25 with IMAX – Tempe Providence, RI – Providence Place 16 with IMAX Quebec City, QC – IMAX Le Theatre At Quebec Sacramento, CA – Esquire IMAX San Antonio, TX – IMAX at RiverCenter San Francisco, CA – Metreon 16 with IMAX & ETX Seattle, WA – Boeing IMAX – Pacific Science Center Tampa, FL – Museum of Science and Industry Toronto, ON – Coliseum 12 Mississauga + IMAX Toronto, ON – Scotiabank Theatre Toronto + IMAX Toronto, ON – Colossus 18 Woodbridge + IMAX – Woodbridge-Vaughan Vancouver, BC – Colossus Langley + IMAX – Langley Vancouver, BC – SilverCity Riverport + IMAX – Richmond Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Brooklyn band unveils new album with a thoroughly badass teaser trailer. By James Montgomery Derek E. Miller and Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells Photo: Getty Images When it comes time to reveal a thoroughly badass album title, there’s really no other way to do it than with a thoroughly badass teaser trailer. And that’s exactly what Brooklyn bashers Sleigh Bells just did, premiering an ominous, thundering clip for their new album … which is called Reign of Terror. The teaser opens with a scene of the Bells’ Alexis Krauss sitting at a vanity mirror, very seriously combing her hair (while wearing a Marine Dress Uniform), then quickly switches to series of hectic, seizure-inducing live clips, interspersed with various shots of life-on-the-road ephemera (they apparently attended at least one LSU football game) and in-the-studio hijinks (Bud Light! Guns! A mirrored skeleton mask!) It’s all backed by a churning, chunky guitar track, which seems to hint that Reign of Terror is most definitely going to be a loud — if not slightly terrifying — listen. And while there’s plenty of visceral gristle in the teaser trailer, it doesn’t actually include a release date for the new album, the follow-up to Sleigh Bells’ 2010 breakout Treats (one could reasonably assume it’s due in 2012, however). The dynamic duo rode that disc hard, including a thunderous performance at the 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards , and a collaboration with none other than Beyonc
Actor’s pristine copy of ‘Superman’ debut sets record for comic book sale. By Gil Kaufman Nicolas Cage at the “Kick-Ass” premiere Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images It’s a good thing Nicolas Cage was able to get his rare copy of “Action Comics” No. 1 back in April after it was stolen from his house in 2000. Because in an online auction on Wednesday, the most sought-after comic in history sold for a record $2.1 million , after 50 people bid in an online auction on the June 1938 book in which Superman makes his debut. Cage’s copy (though the identity of the owner has not been disclosed, many believe it still belongs to the actor), one of only 100 believed to remain in existence, was graded at 9.0 before the auction, making it the best condition of an Action #1 that has ever been graded by the leading comic book grading company, Certified Guaranty Company. Shattering the previous $1.5 million record for a less-well preserved copy of “Action Comics” No.1 sold last March, Cage’s comic became the most expensive to ever sell at auction , when it went for $2,161,000. And it almost didn’t happen. Cage’s comic was stolen from his house in 2000 and then recovered by Los Angeles police when an unidentified man bought the contents of an abandoned storage locker in the San Fernando Valley. Cage reported it stolen on January 21, 2000, after noticing that it, along with two other rare comics, had been stolen from security frames mounted on the wall of his Los Angeles home. According to The Hollywood Reporter , experts believe that only five other No. 1’s with quality near Cage’s exist and all are in private hands. Cage bought his copy at auction in 1997 for around $150,000.
‘Kourtney & Kim Tale New York’ star confirms to Us Weekly she’s expecting second child with Scott Disick. By Jocelyn Vena Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick Photo: Getty Images Kourtney Kardashian is expecting baby number two. The reality star confirms that she’s pregnant in the new issue of Us Weekly. This will be the second child for Kardashian and her longtime boyfriend Scott Disick. “Now, I’m nine weeks along,” she told the magazine, going on to explain that she took a pregnancy test five weeks ago and woke up her beau to share the results. “You’re supposed to wait 12 weeks to tell people, but I feel confident.” Earlier this year, rumors surfaced that the couple were engaged but it was never confirmed. Kourtney’s baby news may be surprising to viewers of E!s “Kourtney & Kim Take New York,” which premiered on Sunday night. The first episode of season two followed Kourtney and Scott as they worked to find the spark they once had in their relationship, before 23-month-old son Mason was born . It was also revealed on the episode that the couple of five years sleeps in separate bedrooms. Kourtney and Scott surprised fans of the Kardashian family when they announced their first pregnancy in 2009. In fact, the couple were a bit surprised by it as well. This time, however, they were more prepared. “It wasn’t like we weren’t trying,” Disick said. “We kind of just said, ‘If it’s meant to be, it’ll be. ‘” Kourtney’s pregnancy news comes just after sister Kim’s revealing quotes in the new issue of Glamour hit the Web. In the January cover story, the soon-to-be-ex of Kris Humphries admitted she has been reconsidering having a family of her own and may just have to focus on being an aunt. “I don’t know,” Kim said. “I always wanted what mom and dad had. And at first I was like, ‘I want six kids.’ Then I went down to four, then I was down to three … and now I’m like, ‘Maybe I won’t have any. Maybe I’ll just be a good aunt.’ ” She added, “That’s how I feel. Maybe my fairy tale has a different ending than I dreamed it would. But that’s OK.” Share your well-wishes with Kourtney and Scott in the comments section.
Backstreet Boy jokes to MTV News that he’ll be ready ‘if she does, by chance, pick me to do that’ on Femme Fatale Tour. By Jocelyn Vena Howie D Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images Howie D is set to hit the road with Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale Tour this weekend, but there’s one thing he may not be ready for: getting one of her famous onstage lap dances . “I just heard about it, and it just means that I have to go into major workout mode now,” the Backstreet Boy joked to MTV News. “I have to do more pushups and crunches than I ever did, because I want to make sure that I represent myself and my group properly.” If Brit does decide to give him a lap dance, he already sees a potential perk. “If she does, by chance, pick me to do that, which I’m not opposed to, it’s a good get-out-of-jail-free card for me,” he laughed, pointing to his wedding band. “So I’m down with it. It’s all in the name of music.” The string of South American tour dates happens to be timed perfectly to the release of Howie D’s first-ever solo album, Back to Me, and he’s got some fun stuff in store for lucky fans who come to check him out. “Well, I’m actually taking a lot from what I’ve learned from the Backstreet Boys and implementing it into my show,” he revealed. “Actually, on the show with me I have a DJ that’s behind me and we’re kind of working on some stuff together. [There’s] even some Backstreet Boys songs. I’m definitely not shying away and presenting what the fans want to hear, but at the same time premiering some of my new songs off the record and it’s just gonna be a fun, energy-packed, ‘get your mind away for 20 minutes’ on my set [show].” Related Artists Howie D. ‘We just really wanted to stick with our home team,’ Mac Miller tells ‘RapFix Live’ of Blue Slide Park. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Mac Miller Photo: Getty Images What’s the first thing an artist does when he snags the #1 spot on the Billboard albums chart? Well, if he’s Mac Miller , he plays James Brown’s “I Feel Good” — and why wouldn’t he? On Wednesday (November 16), the 19-year-old Pittsburgh MC landed the #1 album with his independent debut, Blue Slide Park. It’s the first time an indie artist has obtained the top spot with a debut since Tha Dogg Pound did it in 1995. To mark the occasion, Mac — who is currently out on tour — appeared on “RapFix Live” via Skype. “It’s crazy. I’ve been trying to take it all in,” Miller told Sway. “I’ve just been in constant motion, so I haven’t gotten a chance to really stop and realize how crazy this is that we got the first #1 in 16 years. It’s nuts, man.” Mac broke out in 2010 when he signed to Rostrum Records and then dropped his K.I.D.S. mixtape. Rostrum, which is most noted for signing Wiz Khalifa, is an independent label. Even though Wiz is distributed through Atlantic Records, Mac has no major-label affiliation — not that the majors haven’t been interested. But Team Miller wanted to do things on their own. “I never really got far enough to see an offer for real,” Mac said. “I got no hatred towards major labels or anything. I never got a chance to hear what they had to say. We just really wanted to stick with our home team and keep it in the family.” Miller’s manager and Rostrum Records founder Benjy Grinberg has been fending off offers for Mac. “They called Benjy and wanted to talk, but Benjy was just on some ‘We’re not trying to talk right now, we’re doin’ this independently.’ And we just left it at that.” The move paid off. Since Blue Slide Park was released November 8, fans have been snatching up copies both digitally and physically. “The numbers are cool — 144,000, that’s crazy. But whatever it is, the fact that I got a #1 album on my first try independently is just something that no one could ever take away from me,” Mac said. “I had fans tweeting me with pictures of nine albums that they bought.” Did you snatch up Mac’s album?
