Lori Loughlin is best known for her role as Aunt Becky on Full House. But it now seems clearer than ever that she may end in in the proverbial big house. The actress, along with fellow star Felicity Huffman, appeared in front of a federal judge in Boston on Wednesday, April 3, regarding the pair’s alleged roles in the nationwide college admissions scandal that continues to rock the country. It’s been widely expected ever since Loughlin and Huffman were indicted by the FBI that the women would come to some sort of plea bargain with authorities. But even if this ends up being the case, TMZ talked to legal insiders who believe prosecutors will still push for jail time. “You can’t have people being treated differently because they have money. That’s how we got to this place. Every defendant will be treated the same,” says a TMZ source about Loughlin and Huffman. The judge today told all defendants – including Loughlin’s husband, Mossimo Giannulli – that they face a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison, three years probation and a $250,000 fine. A day earlier, all 13 defendants were subsequently charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services fraud. Loughlin and Giannulli were taken into custody last month after they were accused of paying bribes to ensure that their two daughters were accepted into the University of Southern California. Their scheme worked and the teenagers did earn admission… … but they are reportedly now leaving the school in the wake of this controversy. Both actresses cited here were recorded on wiretapped calls discussing the scandal with ringleader William Rick Singer. Huffman and her famous husband, William H. Macy, allegedly paid $15,000 to Singer in order to participate in a college entrance exam cheating scheme on behalf of their oldest daughter, Sofia Grace. In this instance, she was given twice the amount of time to take the SAT as other students. The FBI believes the proctor corrected her answers. As a result, Sofia scored 1420 on her SAT, an improvement of approximately 400 points over her PSAT. All through some convoluted and really awful cheating. Loughlin, meanwhile, has come under even more scorn and derision from the public. According to court documents, she and Giannulli allegedly paid $500,000 “in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team — despite the fact that they did not participate in crew — thereby facilitating their admission to USC.” They actually posed their kids in fake crew team uniforms and pretended the girls were members of a high school squad in order to get them on a special admissions list with lower standards. It’s widely assumed that Olivia Jade, a social media star in her own right, was well aware of the scandal at the time. She has reportedly cut ties with her parents following their arrest . In total, 47 people were charged by the feds in what they amazingly dubbed Operation Varsity Blues. According to these same legal documents, the actresses and others allegedly paid as much as $6.5 million to get their kids into various schools; including Yale, Stanford, Georgetown and USC. In all, the feds uncovered about $25 million in bribes. That’s insane! Also insane? Some fans were lining up to get autographs from Loughlin outside the courthouse today. Come on, people.

Leah Messer … let’s be honest, the girl used to be an absolute mess. Like, there was a time she was one of the most troubled Teen Mom stars, and that time wasn’t all that long ago. As she explained in a recent interview , she had some health problems after giving birth to her youngest daughter, Addie, the one she shares with Jeremy Calvert. She had a c-section that went wrong somehow, and she was prescribed painkillers, and you probably see where this is going. Leah developed a bit of an addiction, so much that she sometimes resorted to getting the painkillers from her father instead of from her doctor. She also developed anxiety about the pain she was feeling, so she was prescribed Valium, which is another addictive drug. Teen Mom 2 fans will remember those scenes when Leah nodded off mid-conversation — she said that was because of the Valium. Around this time period, she also lost custody of her older daughters , Gracie and Ali, to their father, Corey Simms. This was because she was struggling to get them to school on time, but on the show, we saw the girls complain about her not having any food in the house and sending them to school hungry. Like we said, it was a bad time. In 2015, she went to rehab to deal with her addiction and anxiety , and she’s really managed to turn things around. She seems like an entirely different person than she was back then, and it’s been wonderful to see. That’s kind of why it’s extra upsetting to see her in the middle of a brand new mess. OK, so last week, Addie was in the hospital , and she was diagnosed with mono. Leah and Jeremy shared some photos and videos of her in her hospital room, and she was just as goofy as ever, even while sick. And it really looks like she’s not letting mono hold her down, because yesterday, Leah posted another video on Instagram Live, this one of Addie bouncing around on a bed and singing along to a Cardi B song. The song had the N-word in it … you know the one. And Addie said it. She hesitated a bit, which is almost worst, because it shows that she knows she probably shouldn’t say it, but she definitely said it. We don’t have to explain why white people don’t need to be saying that word, do we? Even six-year-old white people singing along to Cardi B. But it happened. Addie said it, Leah watched it, she recorded it, then she put it on Instagram for her two million followers to watch it. It’s just not a great situation. If you’re having trouble understanding why that is, let’s look at some comments about the video from the fine folks over at Reddit. Mine happened at the predominately white elementary school I attended in the late 80s. All of us students were working on an art project with colored pencils we had to swap out for news ones at our teacher’s desk. I was really feeling myself that day because I had gotten my hair pressed over the weekend. It was laid, luxurious and smelling like fresh Pink Oil Lotion. I remember sitting at my desk, tapping those smooth pencils on the side my head as I pondered how to create my masterpiece. When I was done, I returned my pencils, feeling confident that my design was amazing. But a few minutes later that all changed when I heard someone loudly ask, “Why are these pencils so greasy?” My nemesis, who I will call Melissa, quickly told the class, “That’s because Kellee put them in her hair.” The room erupted in laughter. I was devastated. Having that straight hair made me feel like I had finally fit in with the Colleens and Beckies of the fourth grade. And yet in that instant, their cruelty had my facade crashing all the way down. It’s funny, because it’s been over a decade since the last time I’d even thought about that horrible day. But when I first heard Kelly Rowland’s recent song “Crown,” I was instantly brought back to that time. See, this collaboration with Dove is an empowering anthem aimed at young girls, reminding them that their hair is wonderful, glorious and amazing as is. And the video includes young girls from around the country who have been punished and even suspended for how they chose to rock their tresses. Seeing “Crown’s” images and hearing its lyrics made me wish I had something like this when I was younger, a singer to tell that ashamed little Black girl that her hair was “beautiful in every color. Long, short, straight or curly.” Now if I, a grown woman at 40-years-old, can be inspired by this, I can only imagine the impact it’s having on girls and young women who are coming into their own living in a world of the pressures of Instagram and Snapchat. This is why what Kelly is doing is so important. She is using her God-given gift to do her part to help shape the way girls see themselves and the world around them. And for little Black girls (and women), these messages are especially needed, given the complicated relationship we have with our hair and how often our bodies and hair are overpoliced at school, the workplace and beyond . In addition to the song, Kelly’s taking the message to the streets with community events aimed at bolstering girls’s self-esteem. Last month in downtown Los Angeles, Kelly co-hosted a Dove Self-Esteem Workshop with more than 30 girls from the Boys and Girls Club in attendance. The special workshop, which took place on Feb. 19, offered numerous confidence tips, an interactive conversation and ended with a runway show with the girls showing off the paper crowns they decorated.
