Jon Huntsman may have gotten out just in time. In front of by FAR the most raucous crowd of any Republican debate held thus far, the five remaining GOP hopefuls squared off in South Carolina last night. Ostensibly, everybody not named Mitt Romney angled to knock the frontrunner off his pedestal. In reality, it became a game of rhetorical one-upmanship. South Carolina GOP Debate The crowd cheered their support of U.S. soldiers urinating on dead Afghan bodies and their condemnation of the Obama administration’s condemnation of it. Newt Gingrich earned a standing ovation for this quote: “Andrew Jackson knew what to do with his enemies – he killed them.” How professorial he can be. Even Romney, the most vanilla of all candidates, got into the act, saying “The right thing for Osama bin Laden was the bullet in the head that he received.” No one here’s missing Osama, but really Mitt? The audience then jeered Ron Paul for suggesting that “we should practice the Golden Rule in foreign policy.” Nice to see we boo NOT bombing people. The yelled their approval of Rick Perry saying America should “go to zero on foreign aid.” They booed Juan Williams for questioning Newt’s big janitor idea . The South Carolina primary has a reputation for being a bloodbath, and last night’s rancor showed why. Just imagine if this race were in any way close.

On Sunday I watched the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards along with some 17 million people . Instead of tuning in through cable, I found a nifty live stream at VIP Box , thanks to a Twitter search. Yes, I cut the cord and I’m no longer a cable subscriber, but that’s another post in waiting. On Golden Globes red carpet, David Benioff promises, ‘A lot of bloodshed’ and ‘more romance.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz David Benioff Photo: Getty Images In its first season, “Game of Thrones” struck a chord not only with fans but with critics as well, and on the carpet at the 2012 Golden Globes , showrunner David Benioff shared some hints about season two with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz. “A lot of bloodshed, as they’re used to. More romance, I think, than season one. There are some great love stories starting up,” Benioff said about the next season, which premieres April 1 on HBO. The first season of “Game of Thrones” earned several nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, including Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actor, which Peter Dinklage won. According to Benioff, season two will be about expanding the world of the television show. For production, that meant traveling all over the world. “The worlds just keep getting bigger and bigger,” Benioff said. “We traveled to Croatia and Iceland and again to Northern Ireland this year. I think it looks even better than last season.” The prospect of a new season is a nerve-racking one for Benioff, but the showrunner said that the series’ work behind the camera ensures a great second season. “Obviously, I’m biased, but you’re always nervous going into a new season,” he said. “Can you match what happened before? I think our directors and our cinematographers took it to a whole different place.” Benioff ended his tease for season two with a hint that is sure to make any fan giddy with excitement. “It looks absolutely gorgeous,” he said. “And the dragons are getting bigger.” Check out the 2012 Golden Globes winners , and don’t miss all the fashion from the Golden Globes red carpet ! ‘I think we got a good shot with Melissa [for Best Supporting Actress],’ Paul Feig tells us on the Golden Globes red carpet. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Joshua Horowitz Paul Feig Photo: Steve Granitz/ Getty Images “Bridesmaids” might have walked away from the Golden Globes empty-handed , but the raunchy comedy is still considered a dark horse for the upcoming Oscar race. Nominees won’t be announced until January 24, and many experts are guessing that the film might sneak into the pool of Best Picture nominees. Director Paul Feig is similarly optimistic. MTV News caught up with him on the red carpet before the Globes where he chatted about his predictions for “Bridesmaids'” Oscar chances. “I’m really pulling for Melissa [McCarthy]. I think we got a good shot with Melissa [for Best Supporting Actress],” he said. “I think the girls have a good shot for the screenplay.” But what about their Best Picture odds? Feig isn’t holding his breath. “Look, nothing would make me happier,” he said. “I think that’s a real tough one because the way the voting for the Academy is set up for Best Pictures this year is tough. We have to get a lot of, like, ‘best movie of the year’ votes, which, like, we’re good, but we’re not the best movie of the year. I’d like to say we were, but what an ass I would sound like if I did say that.” That lends itself to a different argument that says the Academy Awards should follow the Globes’ model and separate the drama and comedy categories. As a comedic director and producer for over a decade, Feig said he sees the upside in that split. His argument is that it’s easier to create a showy drama that appeals to critics than a showy comedy that does the same. In his experience, showy comedies typically distance the intended audience, though that isn’t always the case. “I thought ‘The Hangover’ was very showy in that way, filmmaking-wise. But it’s hard because most comedy needs to be very relatable. Like, if I were to do ‘Bridesmaids’ kind of very stylistic, I think I would alienate the audience, you know,” he said. “As a filmmaker, my theory is always, ‘Take the backseat. Don’t show off. Let the girls be the focus.’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “Bridesmaids.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Peter Dinklage’s acceptance speech and Seth Rogen’s shocking one-liner rank among best Globes moments — but there were FAILs too. By Josh Wigler Peter Dinklage at the 2012 Golden Globes Photo: Getty Images In spite of some predictable results (“The Artist” wins everything! Again!) and a far tamer-than-expected performance from returning host Ricky Gervais , there were some moments at the 2012 Golden Globes worth standing up and saluting — from victories for a handful of small-screen underdogs to appearances from real-life dogs. Of course, there were other moments we would just as soon forget. Read on for our list of the best and worst of Sunday’s (January 15) Globes! Best Penis Joke: Seth Rogen On a night peppered with lewd, “members only” humor that included Madonna trying to steal a smooch from Gervais and George Clooney offering “Shame” star Michael Fassbender a few golf tips, it was “50/50” comedian Seth Rogen who came out swinging with the most shocking one-liner of the night. Rogen called attention to his “concealed erection” while standing next to Kate Beckinsale, and it’s a good thing she wasn’t in character as “Underworld” badass Selene, or else that joke may have ended very, very differently. Best Google Alert: Peter Dinklage This year’s Globes gave Dinklage yet another deserved win for playing Tyrion Lannister on “Game of Thrones.” But the actor didn’t simply accept his award, he sent every viewer with access to the Internet straight to the Web with instructions to Google Martin Henderson. No, he did not mean the “Torque” actor. Instead, Dinklage successfully called attention to a dwarf-tossing victim in England, using the Globes as a platform to highlight a greater issue. Least Prepared Winner: Meryl Streep When you hold the record for receiving the most Golden Globe nominations of any actor in history, one would think you’d be a bit more prepared when an award actually came your way. During Sunday night’s broadcast, however, Streep was genuinely stunned by her Best Actress victory for “The Iron Lady.” In a discombobulated acceptance speech, she thanked actors who weren’t even nominated for awards and dragged on for way too frakkin’ long. Meryl, we love you, but please: a little preparation goes a long way. At this point in your storied career, there’s really no excuse for getting played off the stage. Biggest Mistake: The “Boss” Wins Over Walter White No disrespect intended to the former Frasier Crane, who has ruled the small screen in many incarnations over the years. Grammar’s work on Starz’s freshman drama “Boss” is worth acclaim, no doubt, but is it worth more than “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston’s continued excellence as chemistry teacher-turned-meth cook? Not a chance. Four years into the AMC thriller and Cranston continues to top himself with every episode in his role as Walter White. He is the danger, and there’s no question that he should have won the Globe this year. Spot-On Award: “Homeland” On the flip side, voters got it right by awarding Showtime’s “Homeland” with two major awards: one for Best Drama and one to Claire Danes for Best Actress in a TV Drama. Danes’ mentally unstable counterterrorism agent Carrie Mathison is one of the most original and moving lead characters to hit the small screen in recent years, and the actress’ victory in this category is more than deserved. Likewise, the series itself was one of the brightest TV offerings of 2011, absolutely required viewing for anyone fascinated by the world of espionage and the War on Terror. Best Dog: Uggie, “The Artist” In a year dominated by awesome movie dogs, Jack from “The Artist” — played by Uggie the Jack Russell terrier — was the only one respectful enough to actually show up to the Golden Globes. By default, Uggie wins our inaugural Best Dog award. To the other canines: shame on you for staying home. ‘I haven’t kissed a girl in a few years — on TV,’ Madge teases the Globes host. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna makes fun of Ricky Gervais at the 2012 Golden Globes Photo: HFPA/ NBC Shortly after winning the Golden Globe for her “W.E.” soundtrack original song, “Masterpiece,” Madonna returned to the stage during Sunday’s (January 15) broadcast and gave host Ricky Gervais a taste of his own medicine. “OK, our next presenter is the Queen of Pop. Not you, Elton [John], sit down,” Gervais joked. “She’s all woman. I’ll give you some clues: She’s always vogue. She’s a material girl. And she’s just like a virgin,” he said with a sarcastic cough. “Please welcome Madonna.” While Gervais got laughs for his introduction, Madge was ready with some good-natured ribbing for the British comedian. “If I’m still just like a virgin, Ricky, then why don’t you come over here and do something about it?” she teased. “I haven’t kissed a girl in a few years — on TV. Hmm, OK. Moving right along.” Behind Madonna , Gervais could be seen running away, which drew more laughs from the room. The singer/director then went back to the script as she presented Best Foreign Language Film. “I grew up watching movies like most people in this room,” she said. “The movies that allowed my imagination to run wild, that made me believe that I can dream and think outside the box were foreign films made by the likes of [directors] Fellini, Visconti, Truffaut, Godard, just to name a few. So there’s nothing foreign to me about a foreign film. I am honored and excited to present the nominees for Best Foreign Language Film.” (The winner was “A Separation” from Iran.) The Queen of Pop’s (most likely unintentional) reference to a certain princess of pop didn’t go unnoticed. Moments after Madonna joked about how long it’s been since she “kissed a girl,” the “I Kissed a Girl” singer herself, Katy Perry, tweeted , “Madge looks goooooood. I’d tap that. #goldenglobes.” Stick with MTV News all night for the 2012 Golden Globes winners, and don’t miss all the fashion from the Golden Globes red carpet ! Aspiring actor Martin Henderson was partially paralyzed after drunk stranger picked him up and threw him in U.K. By Terri Schwartz Peter Dinklage at the 2012 Golden Globes Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Peter Dinklage might have started off his Golden Globes acceptance speech Sunday night (January 15) with a charming anecdote about his mother telling him Guy Pearce was going to beat him for the best supporting TV actor award, but he ended it on a serious note. The “Game of Thrones” star gave a shout-out to fellow dwarf Martin Henderson but, rather then elaborating, he just said “Google him.” Within minutes, Henderson’s name was a trending topic on Twitter. The aspiring actor was partially paralyzed on his birthday after a drunk stranger picked him up and threw him while he was having a cigarette outside a pub in the U.K. Henderson blames the English rugby team players who recently attended a dwarf-tossing contest during the rugby World Cup in New Zealand for inspiring the attack. The Daily Mail reports that he now faces life in a wheelchair after the incident. Henderson was recovering from a 2010 back injury but has said that this injury has set him back in his recuperation. He went on to tell The Daily Mail that he believes this will affect his acting career. “Every time I stand up I don’t know if I’m going to fall over. I will have to use a wheelchair and I won’t get any acting jobs,” said Henderson, who has appeared in U.K. TV series “10th Kingdom” and “Bigger Breakfast.” British authorities are currently looking for the man who assaulted Henderson. The incident occurred on October 7, but Henderson’s condition has reportedly worsened as the months have passed. He said that his legs became numb following the attack and that he now keeps falling over, even resulting in a recent fractured arm. “I guess I was an easy target and the only reason I was picked on was because I am small,” Henderson said in the interview. “People’s attitudes to me when I go out can be pretty cruel. Most are OK but you get the odd idiot who will make fun and start laughing at me. You just have to ignore it, but this is the first time I have been picked up and thrown about.” Both Dinklage and Henderson suffer from achondroplasia, which causes dwarfirsm. Dinklage was likely trying to raise awareness for a cause that’s close to his heart with the shout-out.
