Chris Brown To Perform At Grammy Awards

Brown is slated to take the stage in his first Grammys appearance since 2009 assault, sources tell the A.P. By Jocelyn Vena Chris Brown Photo: Kevin Winter/ AMA2011/ Getty Images Chris Brown is ready to return to the Grammy Awards . Unnamed sources are telling the Associated Press that the singer will be one of the many performers taking the stage at Sunday’s show. It marks the first time he’ll appear on it since the 2009 incident when he assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna during Grammy weekend. That year both stars were scheduled to perform, but both canceled. Rihanna, however, has since appeared on the show. Despite being nominated in years since, Brown has not attended the ceremony. The performance is not meant to be formally announced prior to the show. Brown is up for three Grammys, including Best R&B Album for his 2011 opus, F.A.M.E., as well as Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for his track “Look At Me Now,” which also features Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes. Rihanna is also slated to attend on Sunday. She’s set to take the stage with Coldplay and is up for a handful of her own awards including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Loud as well Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “What’s My Name?” which features Drake. Rihanna and Brown have recently denied rumors that they are romantically involved with one another. However, the twosome was spotted at the same Super Bowl party over the weekend in Los Angeles, though reportedly they didn’t cross paths. Rihanna and Brown won’t be the only two A-listers taking the stage at Sunday’s show. Adele, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean and Nicki Minaj are also confirmed to perform live at the 54th annual awards show, which will be hosted by LL Cool J and take place in Los Angeles. Katy Perry To Perform At Grammy Awards

Singer’s “Firework” is up for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Katy Perry will take the stage at the Grammy Awards on February 12. The two-time nominee was announced as the latest performer on Wednesday (February 1). The currently blue-haired pop star is up for Record of the Year for her feel-good empowerment track, “Firework.” The Teenage Dream single is also up for Best Pop Solo Performance. This is hardly her first time performing on the show. At the 2011 Grammys , she performed her songs “Not Like the Movies” and “Teenage Dream.” The Valentine-themed performance also included the debut of footage from her wedding to her now-estranged husband, Russell Brand. In 2009, Perry performed her breakthrough hit “I Kissed a Girl” surrounded by giant, glittering pieces of prop fruit. And in 2010 she took the stage at the Grammy Nominations show and sang her ubiquitous candy-coated track, “California Gurls.” The same day that Perry was announced as a performer, fellow nominee Drake was announced as one of the night’s big presenters, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley. Adele announced her long-rumored Grammy performance on Tuesday. It marks her first performance since a November vocal surgery. “I’m immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year’s Grammy Awards,” Adele said. “It’s an absolute honor to be included in such a night and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all.” Rihanna, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean and Nicki Minaj are also confirmed to perform live at the 54th annual awards show, which will be hosted by LL Cool J. Exclusive: Foo Fighters Go For Gold In Grammy Promo

MTV News brings you a first look at 30-second spot, debuting Tuesday. By Kara Warner Photo: NARAS The countdown to the 2012 Grammys is on. Last week, we got a sneak peek at a few promo photos of host LL Cool J and nominees Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift . This week, MTV News has landed an exclusive first look at the television ad campaign featuring the 25-time-nominated Foo Fighters, who are up for six Grammys this year, including Album of the Year and Best Rock Album for Wasting Light. Check out the complete list of 2012 Grammy nominees. The 30-second teaser, which debuts Tuesday night on CBS, opens with an aerial shot overlooking a bejeweled city, reminiscent of the Emerald City from “Wizard of Oz” but all in gold, not green. Over the opening notes of the Foo track “Bridge Burning,” the camera starts to zoom in toward the center of the city, with the gem-like walls exploding into pieces around the shot. From the golden and dusty debris, the Foos emerge individually rocking out to the song. First Taylor Hawkins, then Dave Grohl, followed by Chris Shiflett, Nate Mendel and Pat Smear. The promo ends with the Grammy slogan — “We Are Music” — etched into the rock formations. According to a statement from the Recording Academy, the focus of this year’s ad campaign is on the “raw emotion in music that connects fans and artists and transcends the Grammy stage. It’s that moment where the artist is ready to push the music out and the fan is ready to receive — that’s the true power of music.” The stylized visuals in the video spots are aimed at exposing and enhancing the emotions of this year’s nominees and their songs. In addition to the promo featuring the Foo Fighters, look out for additional spots with Adele, Bon Iver and Skrillex, as well as the print campaign, which features Grammy winners and current nominees Bruno Mars and Paul McCartney. The 54th annual Grammy Awards air live Sunday, February 12, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. What do you think of the Foo Fighters promo? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Foo Fighters

Kelly Clarkson Tourmate Calls Opening Act Gig A ‘Prize Fight’

Acoustic singer Matt Nathanson is hitting the road with Kelly on her Stronger Tour. By Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker Matt Nathanson Photo: MTV News As Kelly Clarkson kicks off 2012 with her highly anticipated Stronger tour , MTV News caught up with her opening act, singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson . Clarkson fans may recognize Nathanson from his single “Come On Get Higher,” which received heavy radio play in 2008 and then again with 2011’s “Faster.” For someone who hasn’t heard his music yet, it can best be described as acoustic rock with a squeeze of country and a pop garnish. He cited a wide range of musical influences including U2, Poison, White Snake, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and Van Halen. Nathanson will also be playing several headlining shows while he tours with Clarkson. He opened up about different being an opening act is compared to having your own show. “Opening shows are more like you’ve got to go out and win them over,” he said. “It’s like clubbing people over the head and dragging them back to your cave. It’s like a prize fight. You go out and just grab them and drag them back and make them yours.” “When I have a headline show, I think of it as a party and I’m sort of like the host,” he explained. The tour is already underway in the U.S., and Nathanson says he’s having a great time. “There’s always a moment where you walk out to someone else’s audience and you don’t know what you’re going to get,” he described. “Kelly’s audience is different than my audience, and it takes them a while to get used to me and me a little while to get used to them. And then once you make that connection, you’re in. It’s fun!” Nathanson is currently touring to promote his latest album, Modern Love, and will stick with Kelly for the remainder of her North American leg of the tour.
