Snooki And Bruno Mars Flirt At The Grammys

‘I got love for Snooki. I want the world to know that,’ the ‘Just the Way You Are’ singer announces on the red carpet. By Eric Ditzian Bruno Mars at the 2011 Grammy Awards Photo: Jason Merrit/ Getty Images Love was in the air on the pre-Valentine’s Day red carpet at the 53rd Grammy Awards on Sunday night, and MTV News guest correspondent Snooki was at the center of the action. The “Jersey Shore” star asked Drake to serenade her, wondered if Jay Sean would offer to smush her and asked Bruno Mars if they might ever end up in a relationship together. Judging by Mars’ reaction, he just might be down, because when the “Just the Way You Are” singer stopped to chat with Snooki, the two couldn’t quit paying tribute to each other. “I’m very, very excited [by] everything that you’re doing,” she told him. “You’re probably the greatest songwriter I’ve ever seen. And I’m not lying.” Mars then announced to the camera, “I got love for Snooki. I want the world to know that.” The pint-sized party girl responded by saying, “Yay! Can you see us as a couple?” And then the two went into some impromptu fist-pumping, which is almost grounds for legal marriage in Seaside Heights. At the Staples Center in Los Angeles, though, Mars already had enough on his mind. He was up for seven nominations, including Best Rap Song (“Nothin’ on You”), Song of the Year (“F— You”) and Record of the Year (“Nothin’ on You”). By the end of the night, though, he only came out on top in one category: Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Just the Way You Are.” But at least for a few minutes, the singer/songwriter was able to wipe away any nervous energy about the impending awards and throw his hand in the air alongside Snooki. “Oh yeah, that’s hot. I love it,” she said. “You look good tonight. Just sayin’.” Snooki then asked Mars what he was doing after the big show, and he responded, “I don’t know. Why don’t you hit me up when the cameras are gone, you know what I’m saying? You could just kick it.” What do you think about a Snooki-Bruno Mars hook-up? Share your opinions in the comments. Esperanza Spalding’s Wikipedia Page Attacked By Justin Bieber Fans

Following jazz musician’s surprise Grammy win, false statements, taunts added to page. By Eric Ditzian, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Esperanza Spalding accepts the Best New Artist award at the 2011 Grammy Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Beware the wrath of a Justin Bieber fan scorned. After the 16-year-old phenom — and, for that matter, Drake, Florence and the Machine and Mumford & Sons — lost the Best New Artist award to Esperanza Spalding at the Grammys on Sunday, the little-known jazz singer found herself a target of the Beliebers. Spalding’s Wikipedia page was attacked following her Grammy win, as random facts, misstatements and taunts were added to the site and then quickly removed. After a sentence noting her victory, for example, a user added the statement, “Justin Bieber deserved it go die in a hole. Who the heck are you anyway?” In other places, the singer’s middle name was changed to both “Justin” and “Quesadilla” and her Grammy win was written up with the addendum, “Even though no one has ever heard of her! Yay!” At the end of her biography, one user wrote, “Biber 4 Lyfe.” Bieber himself shared in his fans’ frustration, telling MTV News on Sunday night, “I’m not going to lie — I was disappointed. But, you know, I’m gonna come back [next year] and we’ll take a few home.” Unlike the Wikipedia hackers, however, the “Baby” singer showed no bitterness whatsoever when he ran into Spalding backstage at the Staples Center. The two artists shook hands and Bieber congratulated Spalding on the victory. “I was one of those [surprised] people,” Spalding told us backstage. “It was so unexpected, that’s the truth. I’m grateful to all my people in my big musical family that have given me so much support and help over the years. I don’t really think this is for me; it’s for all of us. And I wish they could all be here to put one finger on this with me.” For more Grammy Awards analysis, interviews, fashion and more, stick with MTV News. Justin Bieber Runs Into Esperanza Spalding Backstage At The Grammys

Plus: Nicki Minaj gets grabby with Snooki, Arcade Fire give high-fives and more from behind the scenes. By James Montgomery Esperanza Spalding and Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — There was nothing left to do after his band shocked pretty much everyone by taking home Album of the Year for The Suburbs (and breaking into an elated performance of “Ready to Start” that closed the show), so Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler was just handing out high-fives. Backstage at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards , on the way to the press room to share his feelings about winning the night’s top prize, Butler was doling out the high-fives to startled members of the media, a permanent smile stretched across his face. Equally as jovial — even though he lost Best New Artist to Esperanza Spalding — was Justin Bieber, who, after finishing an interview with MTV News , literally walked into Spalding backstage. But rather than be bitter, Bieber shook hands with the newly crowned Grammy winner, congratulating her on her victory. It was a long day of those kinds of once-in-a-lifetime interactions at the Grammys, as the biggest stars in music packed into the Staples Center to honor their own. Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Hudson embraced and laughed after the stirring tribute to Aretha Franklin that opened the show. Mumford & Sons huddled with their brass band minutes before sharing the stage with Bob Dylan, and Nicki Minaj was introduced to one of her “heroes,” Cyndi Lauper. Outside, on the Grammy red carpet, well, it was all about special MTV News correspondent (and “Jersey Shore” star) Snooki , who flirted with Bruno Mars, told Tyrese he was “hot” and informed R&B legend Ronald Isley matter-of-factly that he has “nice teeth.” Snooki told Hudson and Jennifer Lopez that they both looked fantastic and, when Lady Gaga arrived on the carpet inside her egg , not only did the Snookster shout that she “loved” Gaga, but LG returned the love, waving to her from inside the egg. “I’ve seriously got chills!” Snooki enthused. Elsewhere, Snooki let Minaj grab a handful of both her breasts, she pouted when Rihanna didn’t walk the carpet, and, when Lil Wayne blew by, huge cigar in his mouth, she tried to stop him by shouting his name. He didn’t hear her, and Snook was upset. “That sucks,” she sighed. “I love him.” It was, to be honest, probably the only low point of the entire day. That’s how these things tend to go, especially when there are so many stars in such a small place. High-fives all around. Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson Belt Out Aretha Franklin Grammy Tribute

Martina McBride, Florence Welch and Yolanda Adams also grab solos before a special message from the Queen of Soul. By Aly Semigran Martina McBride, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson and Florence Welch perform during the 53rd annual Grammy Awards Photo: CBS At the 2011 Grammy Awards , sisters were doing it for each other. While the legendary Aretha Franklin may not have been able to attend (the 68-year-old singer underwent surgery in late 2010), some of today’s fiercest female vocalists came together to pay tribute to the Queen of Soul. Introduced by LL Cool J, a diverse quintet of “musical princesses” composed of Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride, Florence Welch and Yolanda Adams, opened the Grammy ceremony with a medley of Franklin tunes, kicking things off with the timeless “(You Me Make Feel Like A) Natural Woman,” which they all sang on together. Check out pictures from the Grammy show here. From there on, each powerhouse performer did her own solo as the other four provided backup harmonies, all while images of the indelible Franklin appeared in the background. Aguilera, fresh off last weekend’s now-notorious Super Bowl national anthem mishap, didn’t miss a beat (or lyric, for that matter) of Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way,” which segued to country superstar McBride’s cover of “Until You Come Back to Me.” Welch, whose band Florence and the Machine are vying for Best New Artist this year, took over the duties of singing the classic “Think (Freedom).” Then Hudson belted out the unrequited feminism anthem “Respect.” Adams brought her gospel sound to the song “Spirit in the Dark” before all five women closed out with “Sisters Are Doing It for Themselves,” bringing the Grammy crowd to their feet. After the performance, Franklin appeared via a video message in which she thanked Aguilera, Hudson, McBride, Welch and Adams, telling them, “I love you all.” Standing before a piano in a white dress, the still-recovering Franklin went on to thank Clive Davis, Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich, and all the well-wishers who sent her cards, flowers and “most, importantly, your prayers.” “I wish I could have been there with all of you tonight,” Franklin said, adding she hoped to be in attendance next year. After wishing the 2011 Grammy nominees good luck, Franklin concluded, “Thank you so much. I love you all. Have a good evening.” For Grammy Awards winners list, analysis, interviews, fashion and more, stick with MTV News during the big show and beyond. Lady Gaga Gives Whitney Houston Grammy Awards Shout-Out

‘When I wrote ‘Born This Way,’ I imagined she was singing it,’ Gaga said accepting award for Best Pop Vocal Album. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga accepts the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images After hatching from her egg and being “Born” onstage, Lady Gaga won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for The Fame Monster. Gaga beat out Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Susan Boyle and John Mayer for the big prize. Taking the stage in a high ponytail, dominatrix-style leather bustier, knee-high boots and sunglasses, Gaga took the trophy from Selena Gomez and her onetime tourmate, New Kid on the Block Donnie Wahlberg. “Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart to all my fans, all the monsters, watching,” she said, clutching her prize. “Thank you to my father, my mother, my beautiful sister, Natalie, I love you.” After thanking family and friends, as well as her managers and record label team, the singer shared a personal message. “I had this dream when I was really young that I could be whoever I wanted to be … and no matter what I envisioned for myself, that I would do it, no matter who didn’t believe in me,” she said. “Thank you so much.” Although most of Gaga’s acceptance speech was devoted to the people you would imagine, she also had a thank-you for one unexpected person. “I need to say thank you tonight to Whitney Houston. I wanted to thank Whitney because when I wrote ‘Born This Way,’ I imagined she was singing it because I wasn’t secure enough in myself to imagine I was a superstar. So Whitney, I imagined you were singing ‘Born This Way’ when I wrote it. Thank you.” Moments before winning the Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy, Gaga performed “Born This Way,” the first single off of her May album of the same name. The pop star also took home the prize for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Bad Romance” earlier on Sunday night (February 13). Esperanza Spalding Beats Justin Bieber, Drake For Best New Artist

Jazz star nabs rookie prize at the Grammy Awards. By Jocelyn Vena Esperanza Spalding accepts the Grammy for Best New Artist Photo: Michael Caulfield/WireImage With household names like Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence + the Machine and even Mumford & Sons all battling it out for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards, it was an unexpected victory for Esperanza Spalding, who nabbed the prize. Donning a lime green halter gown with pink shoes, the jazz chanteuse took the stage and graciously accepted her prize, after passing Drake on the way. “I know I don’t have a lot of time, so first, thank you to the academy for even nominating me in this category,” she said. “Thank you to the incredible community and family of musicians I’m so blessed to be a part of… my friends in Portland, all my teachers, colleagues… my beautiful family who’s here,” she continued, before naming names. The smiling award-winner stated that she had every intention of using this opportunity to continue making music that she felt her friends, fans and family would be proud of. “I take this honor to heart so sincerely, and I’ll do my damndest to make a whole lot of great music for all of you,” she gushed. “It’s such a blessing and an honor. God bless. Thank you.” While most thought the Best New Artist would be landing in the hands of Drake, Bieber or Florence, Spalding came out from behind thanks to a strong following in the jazz community. In 2010 she released several albums including Reencontro and Chamber Music Society, and she also joined Prince for select dates on his Welcome 2 America Tour.
