Grammy Red Carpet Fashion: Eggs, Spots And Lots Of Sparkle

Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and more rock stand-out looks on Sunday night. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga arrives at the 2011 Grammy Awards Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage Lady Gaga’s egg aside, there was a lot of glamour on the Grammy red carpet on Sunday night (February 13). Between the dazzling whites and animal prints, the stars turned up their fashion game for the big show in Los Angeles. Check out photos of Lady Gaga’s arrival and the rest of the Grammy red carpet . Florence and the Machine’s Florence Welch hit the carpet early in a white, partially sheer gypsy-esque gown by Givenchy, complete with swan detailing. Paramore leading lady Hayley Williams showed off her fire-engine red hair with a ’60s silhouette that included a black sequined dress with hot-pink trim and black tights by Jeremy Scott. Nicki Minaj did her own thing in a leopard print Givenchy dress with matching tights, shoes and even a beehive, Marie Antoinette-inspired wig with spots. “I’m also wearing kick-ass attitude,” Minaj told MTV News hosts Snooki and Sway on the carpet. Perhaps stealing from Nicki Minaj’s wardrobe cues, Swizz Beatz also wore all-black with a leopard jacket. Katy Perry donned an iridescent Armani with angel wings, beads along the bust and cut-out detailing. Hubby Russell Brand and Katy’s 90-year-old grandmother, Anne, were also wearing silver outfits designed by Armani. Perry’s good pal Rihanna hit the carpet with her fiery hair looking shorter but still edgy in a white tulle gown with tiered ruffles by Jean Paul Gaultier that left little to the imagination. It was all-black everything for some of the guys. Drake looked fancy in a black tuxedo with black shirt and black bow tie. Like Drake, Adam Lambert hit the carpet in black, wearing a low-cut black button-down with a black tuxedo that had leather details on the collar. Justin Bieber looked white-hot in an all-white tuxedo with black bowtie and pocket square; he completed the look with white kicks. His gal pal Selena Gomez looked ultra-glam in a body-hugging J. Mendel lingerie-style silver gown. Gomez’s fellow Disney star, Miley Cyrus , looked equally glittering (and newly blonde) in a skin-tight silver gown by Roberto Cavalli that she wore with lots of bangles. Kim Kardashian , who walked the carpet with brother Rob, opted for gold instead of silver in a low-cut, golden halter gown with a thigh-high slit by Kaufman Franco. Lady Gaga Arrives At Grammys In An Egg

Stylist Nicola Formichetti tweets that the singer is in incubation on the red carpet. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga arrives at the 2011 Grammy Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images Lady Gaga’s arrival at the 53rd Grammy Awards had the world buzzing quite early on Sunday evening (February 13). The songstress, who premiered her new song “Born This Way” on Friday, hit the Grammys in a semi-see-through egg that seemed like something of an arty reference to that song’s title. Check out pictures of Lady Gaga’s Grammy arrival here. Outdoing the space-age Armani Prive getup she wore to last year’s Grammys, Gaga was in the egg as she emerged from a truck and was carried by four men in yellow boxers and dresses to the carpet. Her Twitter page gave a bit of insight into what Gaga might be up to on Sunday. “This is Nicola, Haus of Gaga: Gaga is in incubation,” stylist Nicola Formichetti tweeted on the singer’s page. “Tonight’s performance is in collaboration with Hussein Chalayan and House of Mugler. X” Formichetti also wrote about Gaga’s big arrival on his own Twitter account. “Grammys red carpet,” he tweeted. “Lady gaga wears Mugler by nicola formichetti . Womb by hussein Chalayan. Gaga’s pryers are in haus of gaga in collaboration with Mugler. My baby is been born.” Lady Gaga is set to perform her new song live during the Grammy telecast. The singer is up for six awards on Sunday night including Album of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Dance Recording and Best Short Form Music Video. Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson Top Grammy Performer Poll

Fans can’t wait for their Aretha Franklin tribute, with Lady Gaga and Eminem’s performances the next most anticipated. By Kyle Anderson Christina Aguilera Photo: Getty Images The 53rd annual Grammy Awards are almost here, and while the hardware tends to be the main event, the roster of performers is one of the most star-studded and high-profile in the show’s history. Eminem, Dr. Dre, Cee Lo Green, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Drake, Arcade Fire, Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Katy Perry, Muse, B.o.B, Usher, Bob Dylan and Bruno Mars are among the heavy hitters who will be taking the stage Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. But which performance is creating the most buzz among fans tuning in to watch the show? Earlier this week, the MTV Newsroom blog posed just such a question, and the results are now in. As soon as voting began, the competition became a war of attrition between supporters of Lady Gaga and hard-core devotees of Eminem. But once the producers announced that there would be a tribute to Aretha Franklin led by Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson , the competition suddenly morphed into a three-way dance. After hundreds of thousands of votes were cast, the Aretha Franklin tribute (also featuring Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams) finished in first place with 45 percent of the total vote. It’s a pretty impressive finish, especially considering that the performance wasn’t announced until after voting began. Lady Gaga ended up in second place with 23 percent, with Eminem just behind her with 20 percent. Perhaps fueled by the buzz over the release of “Never Say Never,” Justin Bieber made a late run and managed to cobble together 9 percent. Katy Perry was the only other Grammy performer to pick up more than a single percentage point, and poor Miranda Lambert ended up bringing up the rear. All of Sunday night’s Grammy performances promise to be electric, but fans can barely contain themselves for Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and Eminem. Don’t miss “Snooki & Sway: Live From the Grammys,” a red-carpet live stream kicking off Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on MTV.com. Lady Gaga’s Grammy Performance: How Will She Top Herself?

MTV News takes a guess at what Lady Gaga will do Sunday during her ‘Born This Way’ performance. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga performs at the 2010 Grammy Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images On Sunday, days after debuting “Born This Way,” a splashy dance track about accepting who you are, Lady Gaga is set to take the stage and perform the song for the first time at the Grammys (if you don’t count the time she sang part of the chorus at the VMAs back in September). Gaga’s live performances are typically gory, over-the-top spectacles. She died a bloody death onstage during the 2009 VMAs , she played with fire that same year at the American Music Awards and paid tribute to her late pal, Alexander McQueen , at the Brit Awards in 2010. Last year at the Grammy Awards , the singer didn’t miss a beat. She appeared, donning a sparkly getup by Armani Priv

Miley Cyrus To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’ On March 5

The teen star’s appearance will be her first time hosting the long-running sketch-comedy show. By Aly Semigran Miley Cyrus Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images If you’re a Miley Cyrus fan, here’s some news that’s “like, prit-tay cool!” The 18-year-old singer/actress is slated to host “Saturday Night Live” for the first time on March 5, People.com has confirmed. Unlike some previous genre-spanning celebs who have hosted the sketch-comedy show such as Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez, though, Cyrus won’t pull double duty as the evening’s musical guest. There’s no word yet on who will provide the musical entertainment on the episode. The teenage phenom has been something of a fixture on “SNL” over the past season, with new castmember Vanessa Bayer’s dead-on impersonation of the “Hannah Montana” star in the sketch “The Miley Cyrus Show” seen semi-regularly on the late-night program. In it, Bayer — joined by Jason Sudeikis as her overly eager dad, Billy Ray Cyrus — portrays Miley as she interviews other celebrities while often interjecting her own stories and expressing that everything is, well, “pretty cool.” Cyrus — who has two upcoming comedy films, “So Undercover” and “LOL,” in the works — has also been the butt of some jokes because of her now-infamous bong/salvia-smoking moment, which was all caught on tape and posted online in December 2010. The teen sensation has since addressed the incident, admitting in a recent Marie Claire cover story, “For me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for.” In addition to the “SNL” hosting gig in three weeks, Cyrus will appear at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards as a presenter. How do you think Miley will do as “SNL” host? Tell us in the comments. For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Grammy Awards Fashion: The Best, Worst And Gaga

We flip through some memorable looks before Sunday’s show, from glamorous Katy Perry to Rasta-inspired Christina Aguilera. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga at the 2010 Grammys Photo: Getty Images The Grammy Awards are nothing like the Oscars when it comes to fashion. The approach is less about what’s trendy or appropriate and more about a star’s own personal style. And that means there are always hits but many times there are misses and then, too, as we’ve learned, there’s the Gaga, who can’t be defined as good, bad or otherwise. So with the Grammy red carpet set to kick off Sunday night, MTV News takes a look back on the best and worst of Grammy fashion. The Best Keri Hilson brought the glamour last year in a nude-colored fishtail Dolce & Gabbana gown that showed off the singer’s feminine side

Eminem’s Puppet Alter Ego Makes Crazy Demands In Super Bowl Spot

The Detroit MC pokes fun at his media-wary image in Lipton Brisk ad. By Mawuse Ziegbe Eminem as a puppet in a Lipton Brisk Super Bowl ad Photo: FOX We’re all familiar with the maniacal stylings of Slim Shady, but during the Super Bowl on Sunday night (February 5), viewers got the opportunity to see Eminem’s latest alter ego in all its animated glory. The Detroit luminary lent his likeness to a stop-motion commercial for Lipton Brisk which premiered during the football face-off — an ad that proved that cartoon Em can be as entertaining as the original. The spot features Em’s self-aware puppet doppelganger — the same dummy he released a photo of late last week — breaking down the many reasons why the notoriously media-shy MC typically doesn’t endorse products. Rocking a gray hoodie, white T-shirt and jeans, the animated Em rampages about, rattling off nutty demands like insisting the spot has to be filmed in his house so he doesn’t have to go anywhere, he has to record his own expletive-laced music and he needs some “hot chicks.” The cartoon Shady also explains that he usually hates the products he’s asked to hawk, but in the apparently unique case of Lipton Brisk, the MC proclaims, “Damn, that is pretty good.” But when a stern Lipton exec says they can’t change the name, Em shoves him off a building and yells, “That’s why I don’t do commercials!” While Em unveiled one of the few commercial endorsements of his career during the Super Bowl, next Sunday is shaping up to be a big night for Shady as well. The Motor City MC is up for 10 nominations at this year’s Grammy Awards for his latest chart-topping album Recovery, and will also hit the stage. In addition to boosting his superstar status with high-profile appearances at the Grammys and the Super Bowl, Em is also hard at work building his stable of in-house talent at Shady Records with the recent signing of rap supergroup Slaughterhouse and hip-hop upstart Yelawolf. The MC outlined his plans for his prot
