‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Trailer Warns Of ‘Dark Times’

Second-to-last ‘Potter’ installment hits theaters November 19. By Kara Warner Daniel Radcliffe in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” Photo: Warner Bros. As promised, the latest trailer for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” arrived online Wednesday (September 22), and it is a doozy. Fans who have been following the trajectory of the film’s crafty promotional plan will have a lot to take in after giving it a look-see. Like the TV spots and clips that have been released before it, this trailer opens with an ominous, almost sinister feel. “These are dark times, there is no denying,” Bill Nighy says as Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour, who is shown giving a press conference on the dire state of world affairs. “Harry … tell me where he is,” Voldemort’s (Ralph Fiennes) serpent-like whisper follows, voicing over images of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named creepily gliding into Dumbledore’s tomb, and then a quick cut of Harry standing alone outside a tent on a rocky landscape. “Our world has faced no greater threat than it does today,” Scrimgeour’s voice continues, over shots of Hermione and Ron looking serious and concerned, and then Harry and Hermione are shown visiting his parents’ grave. “But you can’t fight the war on your own, Mr. Potter,” Scrimgeour’s voice continues. “He is too strong.” As the Minister’s words trail off, Harry is shown holding a broken piece of mirror, which shows Dumbledore falling into a dark abyss. The trailer then kicks into high gear, with dramatic music and shots of preparation for various battles, including a very poignant meeting of Voldemort’s Death Eaters, at which the duplicitous Severus Snape is seated. “We have infiltrated the Ministry,” he says. Cut to chaos at the Ministry, with stuffy politicians trying to maintain order (one of whom is forever-pink-clad Dolores Umbridge flashing her characteristic grimace/facade of calm), and then more familiar shots of Harry, Ron and Hermione traveling cross-country on their journey, over rocky hills, in the middle of a bustling London. This is followed by a series of escape-esque shots, including seeing the six Harry clones/look-alikes, which readers of the book will remember is the tool the Order of the Phoenix use in an attempt to safely move the real Harry from one location to the next. Cut to an impressive array of quick action shots: The Death Eaters attacking Bill and Fleur’s wedding! Hagrid trying to whisk Harry away on his motorbike! Everyone running through the forest! A mid-air magic fight with wizards wielding wands while riding Thestrals! There is even the very tense argument between Ron and Harry in the tent that leads to a physical altercation. More battling! Houses destroyed! Harry, Ron and Hermione running! All leading up to Voldemort’s creepy voice-over once more: “I have seen your heart,” he says. “And it is mine,” before sending a menacing flash of lightning into the sky that cleverly forms the film’s title. Cue the all-over-body chills. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” will hit theaters on November 19. What do you think of the trailer?!? Hometown Girl Malin Åkerman on the Toronto Premiere of Bang Bang Club

Pick any random film that’s opened in the last year, and odds are about 50/50 that Malin Åkerman starred in some capacity. OK, so I exaggerate, but let me put it this way: A week after interviewing Åkerman for her film The Romantics — which opened last week in limited release — the Swedish-Canadian actress is in Toronto for the world premiere of her latest effort The Bang-Bang Club . Hermione Granger Was Right: Twilight Is All About The Sex

As we mentioned the other day, erstwhile witch and current Brown University matriculant Emma Watson was speaking to Brit mag Empire and bubbling on about her forthcoming kiss with Rupert Grint in the last volume of the Harry Potter movies when she gave a backhanded slam to everyone’s favorite dishwater dull vamp couple, Bella & Edward. But what did she mean exactly? Let’s unpack it.

Warner Bros sues over Harry "Popper" condom…

IT'S not every movie star who has a condom named after them. But Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter has become a brand of condom in Switzerland and Warner Bros is not happy. The Swiss condom brand “Harry Popper” is reportedly being sued for copyright infringement by the studio. Gawker.com details the hubbub with a broken-English quote from the Swiss newspaper Bote: “For Warner Bros. is obvious: The sorcerer Harry Potter have a 'very positive image.' Condoms have no business there. Especially not now. According to Warner Bros. in November to plan the launch of the new Potter movie. Also a new video game is in preparation. The lawyer for Warner Bros. bluntly: 'The image of my client is in danger.' There is no denying the correlation between the latex protectors and the popular wizard movie. ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Dividing Point Revealed

First movie will end ‘at about Chapter 24 of the book,’ according to upcoming article in Entertainment Weekly. By Josh Wigler Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I” Photo: Warner Bros. Given that the novel clocks in at 759 pages and 36 chapters, not to mention a controversial flash-forward epilogue, there’s little question that the film adaptation of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” needed extra legroom to properly stretch itself. As a result, Warner Bros. made the fan-supported decision to split the final installment of the “Harry Potter” franchise into two movies, but one question still plagues Potterites everywhere: At what moment in the story will the films split up ? It would seem that the answer is upon us, as “Harry Potter” fan site Muggle Net has come across what appears to be scanned pages of a “Deathly Hallows” preview article from an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly. In the article, it’s clearly stated that the November-releasing first installment of “Deathly Hallows” concludes “at about Chapter 24 of the book, with Voldemort gaining possession of the Elder Wand, one of the three Deathly Hallows that allow the bearer to conquer death.” By all accounts, it appears that the scans are legitimate, potentially putting an end to countless hours of fan speculation about where the two movies would diverge. In the article, Warner Bros. Entertainment President Alan Horn spoke about splitting the last “Harry Potter” novel into two films, acknowledging that there were certainly commercial reasons driving the final decision. “I don’t want to be disingenuous or dishonest about this,” Horn told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s no question that Warner Bros. will make more money with two films than they would have with one. But we also never, ever would have done this if [author J.K. Rowling] had not endorsed it and if we didn’t feel that we were providing a better finale, with a more full sense of closure. We just respect and love the books too much for that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Daniel Radcliffe Comes Out: I’m Single!

So much for those Olive Uniacke rumors. Despite being romantically linked to that British party girl, the Harry Potter star tells the latest issue of Out that he’s single. “I was in a relationship with somebody for just about three years, and we broke up just shortly before we hit that mark. But [the breakup] was very amicable. At the moment, I’m just being single and running around chasing girls,” Radcliffe said, laughing. Elsewhere in the interview, Radcliffe makes it clear why he’s the rare child star unaffected by his early fame. How many people his age in general would have the following, mature viewpoints on gay marriage, politics and Hollywood? On Nick Clegg, England’s the Deputy Prime Minister : I’m a very big fan. I’ve actually met him, and I have to say he’s a really, really good man. I don’t agree with everything he says, but of all the party leaders, he was the one I voted for. I thought he was a great speaker and very charismatic and very statesmanlike. And I’m glad that he is still in a prominent position in British politics because I think he could make a great contribution. He comes from absolutely the right place in terms of what his values are. On the growing acceptance of alternative lifestyles : I think that with every generation, people become more open to those ideas and more aware and more educated. But it’s a really, really slow process. If you take any family with parents who are bringing their kids up in a narrow-minded way that includes homophobia, it will take a very profound moment of realization to change those deep-seated views. On recently visiting Hollywood… for the first time : People seem to have a very bizarre perception of me – that I’m a Hollywood actor. I don’t think of myself that way. And when I was out there and telling people it was pretty much my first trip, jaws just hit the floor. They were looking at me like I had two heads. Expect to hear a lot more from Radcliffe as he continues publicity for the November 19 release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows .
