B.o.B’s ‘Airplanes, Part 2,’ Featuring Eminem And Hayley Williams, Hits The Net

‘Since the album is leaking, I want this one to come from ME,’ B.o.B tweets about posting song. By Steven Roberts B.o.B Photo: MTV News There’s been much hype surrounding B.o.B’s debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, which is slated to drop April 27. The album’s lead single and surprise hit, “Nothin’ on You,” featuring Bruno Mars, currently sits at #1 on iTunes’ songs chart . But once the album’s track listing was released, anticipation began to grow even more, thanks in large part to the Eminem feature on “Airplanes Part II.” B.o.B decided to unleash the track Monday afternoon (April 19) via his website , and it lives up expectations. The song features Em spitting another song-stealing verse, rapping hypothetically about what could have been failed opportunities. “Let’s pretend Marshal Mathers never picked up a pen/ Let’s pretend things would’ve been no different/ Pretend he procrastinated, had no motivation, pretend he just made excuses that were so paper thin.” Em continues, listing off scenes from his now-famous narrative of a tortured childhood and his tumultuous relationship with his mother. “Now pretend they ain’t just make him angry with this sh–/ And there was no one he could even aim [at] when he’s pissed at/ And his alarm went off to wake him, but he didn’t make it to the Rap Olympics/ Slept through his plane and he missed/ He’s going to have a hard time explaining to Hailey and Laney this food stamps and this WIC sh–/ Because he never risked sh–/ He hoped and he wished it.” The retrospective track also features Paramore’s Hayley Williams on the hook , who was as surprised as anyone by the Eminem collaboration. “I only found out about Eminem getting on the track like a month ago,” she told MTV News. “As if the song couldn’t get any better. He just slays me, he’s such a genius.” B.o.B told MTV News last week that it was a gift to work with one of his heroes. He said Em’s manager Paul Rosenberg grabbed Slim Shady’s attention with B.o.B’s first mixtape, Cloud 9, and he kept Em abreast of B.o.B’s work. He tweeted Monday that he wanted to share the song first, since his album was leaking. “Since the album is leaking … I want this one to come from ME. Hear ‘Airplanes Pt. 2’ ft. EMINEM & Hayley Williams of Paramore.” Related Artists Eminem Paramore B.o.B

Eminem Collaboration ‘Was A Gift,’ B.o.B Says

‘He wanted to get in the studio with me,’ B.o.B says of Em’s work on his ‘Airplanes (Part II)’ track. By Steven Roberts B.o.B. Photo: MTV News Eminem is a busy guy — he isn’t exactly the most accessible artist to work with, which is part of the reason why his guest spots on songs like Lil Wayne’s “Drop the World” and Drake’s “Forever” are such big deals. He doesn’t just do it for anybody, because not just anybody can keep up with him. So when the track list for B.o.B ‘s debut album The Adventures of Bobby Ray was released, it was a surprise to see Em’s name included. B.o.B scored a guest spot from an enthusiastic Eminem on “Airplanes (Part II),” also featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore . Marshall Mathers said Paul Rosenberg introduced him to B.o.B’s work, starting with his first mixtape Cloud 9, and he liked what he heard. “Paul Rosenberg played him the Cloud 9 mixtape and it kind of gave him an idea of what my music,” B.o.B explained. “Eventually he started playing Em more of my stuff and was keeping him updated on my progress and eventually he wanted to get in the studio with me, so that was a gift.” According to B.o.B, working in the studio with Em was like being in a laboratory with a mad scientist, watching and observing how everything works. But he was happy to find that while each artist has different methods, they’re all trying to find that zone. “It’s really reassuring to know that every artist has a way of working but it’s all … the essence of it all to get in that vibe and to get in that zone, and everybody has a different way to get in that zone,” B.o.B offered. “It’s good to see a different way, because you know, ‘OK, I can do this or I can do that.’ It kind of showed me where I was thinking inside of a box and where I can open up even more.” What do you think of the collaboration between Eminem and B.o.B? Hayley Williams Calls Cameo With Eminem On B.o.B’s Album ‘Incredible’

‘I’m so proud to be a part of this!’ Paramore frontwoman tells MTV News By James Montgomery Paramore’s Hayley Williams Photo: John Shearer/ Getty Images He may already be Justin Bieber’s favorite rapper , but on his debut album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, Atlanta’s own B.o.B is looking to expand that fanbase even further — to the Warped Tour set. In addition to cameos by the likes of T.I. and Lupe Fiasco, Adventures also features Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo on a track (which isn’t that much of a stretch, considering Rivers is practically a member of Young Money at this point) and, oddly enough, Paramore’s Hayley Williams, who lends her vocals to a pair of songs on the album, one of which also features Eminem. Needless to say, the idea of Hayley and Em sharing vocal duties raised our eyebrows just a bit, which is why we sent an e-mail to the Paramore frontwoman to ask her all about the song and just how she ended up appearing on B.o.B’s record in the first place. “I was given the track a while ago while we were on tour. The guys and I all loved it. They told me I was crazy if I passed it up,” Williams told MTV News. “I liked the part too much anyways, so of course I was down. “I only found out about Eminem getting on the track like a month ago. As if the song couldn’t get any better. He just slays me, he’s such a genius. And I’m a big B.o.B fan. Got everything of his that I’ve been able to get my hands on,” she continued. “Whether our fans know or not, I’m not sure, but [Paramore bassist ] Jeremy [Davis] and I have always been really into hip-hop. It means a lot that I got to collaborate with a hip-hop artist who is from Atlanta. Not far from home. We Southern gals love us some Southern gentlemen.” Williams appears solo on a song called “Airplanes,” and then she’s joined by Eminem on an album-closing reprise, which, appropriately enough, is called “Airplanes (Part II).” But what do the tracks sound like? Well, Williams wouldn’t tell us much, which means Paramore fans are just gonna have to wait until B.o.B’s album drops April 27. “Both versions of the track are incredible, that’s all I’ll say,” she wrote. “I’m so proud to be a part of this!” Are you excited to hear Hayley’s collabos with B.o.B? MTV’s Musical March Madness Final Four Preview: Coheed And Cambria

They’ve done away with Paramore, Mastodon and Phish — but can they take down Tokio Hotel? By James Montgomery Coheed and Cambria Photo: Sony/Getty Images/MTV News Who : The hard-riffing, hirsute champions of the South region in MTV’s Musical March Madness tournament , Coheed and Cambria have outgunned pretty much everyone on their run to the Final Four — including a #2 and a #6 seed — and now stand as a legitimate threat to win the whole thing. It all starts with C&C mastermind Claudio Sanchez, a threat to score from pretty much anywhere on the floor. As comfortable driving and dishing as he is penning bong-glazed, beard-y graphic novels, Sanchez is sort of like the musical equivalent of John Wall , except with better hair. Let’s just call him the MVP of the whole tourney. How They Got Here : The selection committee was unkind to Coheed, saddling them with a #15 seed and scheduling a first-round matchup against highly favored #2 Paramore. Undaunted, C&C blasted Hayley Williams and company 60-40, then made quick work of their second-round opponent, fellow shredders Mastodon. Looming in the Sweet 16 were #6 Phish, who — after favorites the Kings of Leon, Paramore and the Dave Matthews Band were all bounced from the tourney — were seen as the favorites to win the region. But once again, Coheed rose to the occasion, winning a bruising 56-44 showdown and moving on to the Elite Eight, where they dispensed of Alice in Chains with relative ease. Through it all, Coheed have proven to not only be the band no one wants to face, but the band that seemingly cares more about winning this whole thing than anyone else. And that tenacity has paid off in spades. The Outlook : Rabid, die-hard fanbase? Check (and then some). Dedicated bandmembers with too much free time on their hands? Yep. An actual, upcoming album to promote? Indeed. A few weeks ago, it would have seemed improbable (we didn’t see them beating Paramore, to be honest), but at this point, Coheed have the right chemistry to take the championship. They’ll face their toughest test in the Final Four, squaring off against #16 Tokio Hotel — a matchup of two bands with insane-o fans and nothing left to lose. The Internet shall surely buckle beneath the weight of their votes. Throughout the day, we’ll be breaking down the four bands still standing in MTV’s Musical March Madness tournament. Voting on the Final Four opens Friday (April 2) on the Newsroom blog and runs until Sunday night. Related Photos MTV News’ Band Bracketology Related Artists Coheed and Cambria

Green Day Say New Album Is ‘Back To The Basics’

‘We’ve got to start translating the songs and explaining the songs,’ Billie Joe Armstrong tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Sway Calloway Green Day Photo: MTV News In the new issue of Kerrang! magazine, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong got fans salivating when he let it slip that the band was already working on songs for the follow-up to 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown. “We did some demos in Berlin, some in Stockholm, some just outside of Glasgow and some in Amsterdam,” Armstrong told the magazine. “We wanted to get [the songs] down in some early form.” From the sound of things, GD were looking to get something out sooner rather than later, a far cry from the two-plus years they spent working on Breakdown. And, naturally, we were excited by the news. So when we spoke to the guys at the Broadway premiere of their “American Idiot” musical , we asked them about the status of the new album — which, as they put it, is shaping up to be a “back-to-basics” sort of affair. “It’s just been songwriting right now. Instead of doing it later on, we decided to start doing stuff now. … It’s all back to the basics again. Just getting in a room together and start jamming,” Armstrong said. “We set up all of our old gear, which was like an experiment. We set up all of our equipment from 1992, and we sat in a room. We got in, and I was like, ‘Come on, guys, we’re getting back in!’ and I [start playing] and go, ‘This sounds like sh–!’ Everything sounded so bad.” “Me and [drummer] Tre [Cool] were looking at Billie going, ‘Really, you’ve got to pull out that POS amp?’ ” bassist Mike Dirnt laughed. “I mean, it really sounded like crap.” So maybe the new Green Day album won’t be a return to their punk past. Or perhaps it will. As Armstrong pointed out, the finished album is still a ways off, and it’s too early to see how it’s going to turn out. “It’s still really early,” he laughed. “We’ve got to start translating the songs and explaining the songs, and the next step will be arguing about the songs.” Are you excited for new music from Green Day? Paramore’s Hayley Williams Sings Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’ On Twitter

‘Most fun I’ve ever had in ever,’ she tweets about performing the cover. By Kyle Anderson Haley Williams Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic Paramore singer Hayley Williams has one of the most entertaining Twitter feeds of any musician on the Internet. She regularly tweets her reviews of movies she has seen (she recently saw and loved “Hot Tub Time Machine”), rants about UFC events and exchanges inside jokes with her own band members, Nashville friends and boyfriend Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory. Though she drops the occasional Twitpic, her Twitter has been mostly a word-based experience. Until now. Over the weekend, Williams posted a video to her Twitter feed . “Feel a bit crazy posting this … but you asked for it!” the 21-year-old frontwoman wrote. “My apologies to Miss Gaga. Love, your friend, Lady Haha.” The link revealed a video of Williams sitting at a piano, adusting her hair and then singing and playing Gaga’s “Bad Romance.” Williams gave Gaga’s hit a nice little remix, making the solo piano version into a cabaret shuffle. She seemed to take extra pleasure in the “Ooh la la” portions of the tune, rolling the R’s and belting out the notes. The video came as a result of a tweet she sent only a few hours before . “Playing ‘Bad Romance’ on the piano and pretending to be Lady Gaga,” she wrote. “Why haven’t I ever done this before? Most fun I’ve ever had in ever.” Williams is just the latest star from the rock world to take on a Lady Gaga song . She joins the ranks of Chris Daughtry, Weezer, Maximo Park, We the Kings and, of course, Eric Cartman of “South Park” fame. Could “Bad Romance” sneak into Paramore sets in the future? We’ll find out when the group kicks off the latest stretch of tour dates on April 26 in Knoxville, Tennessee. What Lady Gaga song would you like to see Paramore cover? Let us know in the comments! MGMT’s Congratulations: Fuzz, Dancing And Russian Surfing In 2010

The group returns with a new album this year, but without any single releases. By Kyle Anderson MGMT Photo: Sony/Columbia It’s hard to believe that Oracular Spectacular, the breakout album from Brooklyn psychedelic dance duo MGMT , originally came out way back in 2007, simply because it still remains inescapable today. Andrew Van Wyngarden and Ben Goldwasser have spent the past few years riding the wave of their infectious, fuzzy grooves to platinum success, and the irresistibility of the smash singles “Time to Pretend” and “Kids” has brought them major spots on high-profile festivals, a pair of Grammy nominations and praise from bloggers and soccer moms alike.
