2010 US Open, First Round Scoreboard: K.J. Choi Headlines Quartet Tied For Lead At 2-Under, Mickelson 3-Over

With the morning groups halfway through their opening rounds at Pebble Beach, a quartet of golfers have moved into the early lead at the 2010 U.S. Open. K.J. Choi, Edoardo Molinari, Soren Kjeldsen and David Toms all sit at 2-under, through 13, 13, 13 and 8 holes respectively. Choi started off his round disastrously, bogeying and double-bogeying the first two holes, before bouncing back with five birdies to jump into a share of the lead. Toms and Kjeldsen have both recorded three birdies and a bogey thus far in their rounds, while Molinari has rung up four birdies, to go with two bogeys. Mike Weir and Ian Poulter lead a pack of golfers a shot back at 1-under, with Jim Furyk, who’s been something of a darkhorse pick to win the Open, behind them at even through 12 holes. Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson has struggled on his first day, sitting at 3-under through 11 holes after finding the drink on the 18th hole. Also of possible interest, noted golf enthusiast Tiger Woods will tee off at 4:36 PM EDT, in a powerhouse group that includes Ernie Els and Lee Westwood as well. Report: Segui visits Clemens grand jury (AP)

Former major leaguer David Segui has appeared before the federal grand jury investigating Roger Clemens for perjury. The New York Daily News reported that Segui testified for about 90 minutes Thursday. Segui declined comment to the paper as he left the grand jury room. Are Cut Flowers Killing the Wildlife in Kenya’s Lake Naivasha?

Photo via joebeone Flamingos are landing at Lake Naivasha in Kenya. This might seem like a good thing at first – more wildlife is a sign of vitality, right? But there’s one problem. Flamingos like salt water and Lake Naivasha is a fresh water lake. Or at least, it’s supposed to be. The flamingos are one of many signs showing that the chemistry of the lake is changing and that spells bad news for the flora and fauna that call it home. While there is a debate raging on what is causing the pollution and problems for the lake, several fingers point to the flower farming industry. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Oil Generation’s Representative Barton Personal Apologies Extended To BP Executive

In my lifetime we’ve had the Beats, the Hippies, the Cold Warriors, the Boomers, X’ers, and the Y’rs and more. One term captures them all and that is Oil Generations . If we had to nominate a present-day King symbolize what united, fueled and lubed us all these years, it would be hard to chose between Representative Joe Barton, R-Texas and Tony Hayward, CEO of British Petroleum. To demonstrate, have a look at this excerpt from today’s Congressional hearing on the BP gusher. As

Coverage: BP CEO Tony Hayward going to Capitol Hill

Live coverage… WASHINGTON (AP)- BP's humbled CEO told Congress on Thursday he was “deeply sorry” for the company's catastrophic oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. But a House panel chairman accused him of being oblivious to the risks of the company's deepwater operations. Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., told a grim-faced BP executive Tony Hayward that in his committee's review of 30,000 items, there was “not a single e-mail or document that you paid even the slightest attention to the dangers at this well.” A day after agreeing to a $20 billion victims' compensation fund, Hayward told Congress in prepared testimony that he was “personally devastated” by the April explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that triggered the giant spill — and that he understands the anger that Americans feel toward him and his company. added by: JanforGore
