That will change on May 31 when VH1 premieres a new Michaels documentary series, “Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It,” which a promises will give viewers “an insider’s look at Bret’s home life when he isn’t touring, shooting, partying and rocking out. After the lights have dimmed on stage and the music stops for the night, Bret rolls off the tour bus right into the loving arms of his daughters Raine and Jorja, who affectionately refer to him as ‘Poppa Rocka.’ ” Due to Michaels’ recent health crisis, the full 10-episode run of the half-hour show has been pushed to the fall, with no confirmed air date available at press time. “After Bret’s recent appendectomy and life-threatening brain hemorrhage, we’re so happy that he is on the road to recovery and coming back to VH1,” said Jeff Olde, executive vice president of original programming and production at the network. “Bret is family to us and has always been a huge hit on the network, headlining several series and specials that have garnered record-breaking ratings and made a strong connection with our audience. We have temporarily halted production on the series with Bret’s health as our primary concern. Production will resume when it is cleared by his doctors. … We’d like to celebrate Bret’s recovery with this sneak peak special featuring the next chapter in Bret’s story on VH1. Ronnie James Dio Remembered As ‘One Of The Nicest Guys’ By Metal Peers

Members of Metallica, Slipknot, Slayer, Anthrax, more mourn the vocalist, who died Sunday. By Ryan J. Downey  Ronnie James Dio Photo: Steve Thorne/ Getty Images Friends, disciples and fans throughout the heavy metal community are remembering the late Ronnie James Dio as not only one of the best but one of the kindest vocalists in history. The singer for Black Sabbath, Rainbow and of course, Dio, succumbed to cancer on Sunday at age 67. “The world has lost a real talent and a genuinely great man,” Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor said in an e-mail to MTV News. “Words cannot describe my sadness and music will never be the same without his voice and honesty. He will always be an icon to heavy metal and hard rock. On behalf of all of the fans and the singers inspired by his life, we will miss you, Ronnie.” “Few people have had the ability to carry a song like Dio, literally demanding your attention as he effortlessly re-created live the amazing things he did on record,” Slayer guitarist Kerry King told MTV. “It’s odd how things get taken from you quickly. I just saw him a month ago. I know I was lucky to have known Ronnie, one of the nicest guys in the business, without a doubt. He will be hugely missed.” Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian echoed that common sentiment: “Ronnie was the nicest man in metal,” he declared. “Every day on tour,

Monsanto: The Corporation Poisoning Our Environment

The Roundup History of Monsanto If you Google, 'the most evil company in the world', your search results will find the company, Monsanto. You've probably never heard of Monsanto, however, you most likely have or have had their products in your cupboards, basement, shed, or food. http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/business/news-monsanto-multi-national-manip… :+environmentalgraffiti+(Environmental+Graffiti) Monsanto began in 1901, deriving its name from founder, John Queeny’s, wife’s maiden name. The first product made and distributed was the artificial sweetener, saccharin, bought by the Coca-Cola Company. Monsanto quickly also introduced caffeine and vanillin to Coca-Cola, eventually becoming their main supplier. The company then established themselves in Europe by collaborating with Graesser's Chemical Works and produced vanillin, salicylic acid, aspirin and later rubber. By its third decade, they had expanded into basic industrial chemicals like sulfuric acid, and closing in on the 1940s, Monsanto became a leader in manufacturing plastics. In 1944, being one of fifteen companies licensed to do so, Monsanto began manufacturing DDT, a synthetic pesticide which was used for agriculture to help rid of insects and to help aid disease control – until findings proved it to be toxic to wildlife, the environment and our health. AP poll: Dems likely to retain majority…barely

People want Democrats to control Congress after this fall's elections, a shift from April, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll released Saturday. But the margin is thin and there's a flashing yellow light for incumbents of both parties: Only about one-third want their own lawmakers re-elected. The tenuous 45 percent to 40 percent preference for a Democratic Congress reverses the finding a month ago on the same question: 44 percent for Republicans and 41 percent for Democrats. The new readout came as the economy continued showing signs of improvement and the tumultuous battle over the health care law that President Barack Obama finally signed in March faded into the background. “To the extent that Democrats can focus on job creation rather than health care, they tend to do better,” said Jack Pitney, a political scientist at California's Claremont McKenna College. Democrats hold a 254-177 majority over Republicans in the House, with four vacancies, while Democrats control 59 of the Senate's 100 seats, counting support from two independents. Despite those disadvantages, the GOP has gained political momentum in recent months and its leaders hope to win control of at least one chamber of Congress this November. Compared with the last AP-GfK poll in April, the survey showed Republicans losing some support among married women, a key component of many GOP victories. Democrats picked up ground among young and rural voters. More…. added by: SleepDirt

Living Downstream links environment and cancer

There was once a village along a river. The people who lived there were very kind. These residents, according to parable, began noticing increasing numbers of drowning people caught in the river’s swift current. And so they went to work devising ever more elaborate technologies to resuscitate them. So preoccupied were these heroic villagers with rescue and treatment that they never thought to look upstreams to see who was pushing the victims in. Living Upstream is a walk up that river. Author, environmentalist and cancer survivor Sandra Steingraber, Ph.D., was raised in a family that seemed prone to cancer. She was diagnosed with bladder cancer at age 20. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when Steingraber was in high school. Her aunt died of the same form of cancer that Sandra had, and many of ther close family members also struggled with the disease. But there is no question that cancer does not run in Steingraber’s genes—she was adopted. Clearly, this family was struggling with toxic influences surrounding them in their daily lives. Living Downstream , first published in 1997, both tells the tale of Steingraber’s ongoing battle against cancer and her life’s work linking the effects of our toxic environment on cancer and our health. A documentary film adaptation of the book coincides with last month’s release of an updated edition of the book, tracking recent scientific revelations in the connection between a healthy environment and human health. Find a public screening of Living Downstream , the movie, or purchase a DVD at LivingDownstream.com , and follow Steingraber’s ongoing search for answers and journey of cleaning our environment of carcinogenic influences in Walking Upstream . Source: Halle Berry Gave the Boot to Gabriel Aubry

Well, this makes a lot more sense. When word first spread last week that Gabriel Aubrey dumped Halle Berry , experts (i.e. the THG staff, our interns and the pizza guy) questioned the model’s sanity. Did he really think he’d find a better looking girfriend?!? Now, though, an insider close to the situation says the break-up took place awhile ago – and Berry was the driving force behind it. “She kicked him out months ago because he wasn’t able to pull his weight in the relationship and she wanted to move on,” a source told People . “They’re very amicable in healthy ways because of their child. Her main concern is for the health and happiness of her daughter.” A rep for the Academy Award winner, meanwhile, confirms that she and Aubry “have been split for some time, but remain friends and committed parents to their daughter.” Aubry himself has released a statement over the weekend saying he’s sad about the break-up, but recognizing Halle as a “special and beautiful” person. She then went out and proved that on Saturday, taking part in the Revlon Run/Walk for Women. Check out photos of Berry at the event, above and below: [Photos: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com]

Guru Memorial Concert Should Involve DJ Premier, Solar Says

‘It couldn’t be [a tribute] without them,’ he tells MTV News, despite tensions between the two. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Solar Photo: MTV News Although tensions between Solar and DJ Premier remain high, the controversial producer said he would like to reach out to the Gang Starr member to join him for a memorial concert he’s planning for Guru later this year. “Not only Premier, but the whole Gang Starr Foundation — everybody, for sure,” Solar told MTV News. “It couldn’t be [a tribute] without them. Plus, the list of artists Guru and I have already compiled that would go with it, that would be brilliant.” Solar said he and Guru had long planned to host an event, whether he recovered from his health issues or not. Since the Gang Starr rapper died last week , though, Solar has been vilified by fans for releasing a farewell letter purportedly written by Guru. In the controversial message, Guru assailed Premier and only referred to his groupmate as his “former DJ.” Solar denied claims that he wrote the letter, but Premier remains skeptical . Premier released his own statement following Guru’s death, a touching memorial to his friend. During a radio “salute” to his fallen Gang Starr cohort, Premier repeatedly disparaged Solar, writing him off as a jealous opportunist. Solar, for his part, stands by Guru’s authorship of the letter, yet he distanced himself from the remarks and said he now has to make the best decisions for the current situation. “At the end of the day, Guru’s statement is Guru’s statement, and that’s Guru,” he said. “I’m my own man, just like he was his own man. I have to make decisions as life goes on that’s beneficial to all involved. I haven’t had a chance to sit down with DJ Premier. Hopefully now will be the time, in the near future, even on this particular matter, and speak on things. It’s my intention that everybody understand I foster the concepts of peace and harmony. And I believe as time goes on and feelings settle that this will happen. And willfully, this benefit concert will be one way of speeding that along.” Share your memories of Guru and Gang Starr in the comments below.
