I may have irritated a lot of the lefties, but I was aiming for people in the middle.” Eastwood sounded far from defensive over criticism of his self-described “very unorthodox” speaking style, freely admitting, “I really don’t know how to” give a traditional public address. He added: “That’s what happens when you don’t have a written-out speech.” In his opinion, Eastwood said his critics in the media “are obviously on the left” and would be critical of him no matter what he said. As for Eastwood’s fans? Well, not all of them loved the speech, but it doesn’t seem to have changed their affection for the Academy Award winner. “They’ve got this crazy actor who’s 82 years old up there in a suit,” Eastwood said. “I was a mayor, and they’re probably thinking I know how to give a speech, but even when I was mayor I never gave speeches. I gave talks.” As for his now infamous conversation with an empty chair, Eastwood says he came up with the idea just moments before taking the stage. “There was a stool there, and some fella kept asking me if I wanted to sit down,” Eastwood said. “When I saw the stool sitting there, it gave me the idea. ‘Freaks’ for Fur and Leather?? PETA thinks so. The Animal Rights Group, known for their strong opinions and implementing humane animal treatment, has lashed out at Rih Rih and Lady Gaga, calling them insensitive ‘freaks’ who are ‘being laughed at’. Rihanna was criticized by the animal rights organization after she took to the streets of London on Thursday wearing a pair of thigh-high snakeskin boots, according to the Daily Express. “Rihanna may not have a clue that snakes killed for boots are often nailed to a tree and skinned alive. Of course, they can’t go on Oprah to cry about it,” said a PETA spokesperson, referring to the singer’s recent appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show. “Wearing reptile skin is creepy and callous, and it makes her look even more out of touch. She and Lady Gaga seem so desperate to be freaks instead of recognized for their talents that you have to wonder if they realize that they are being laughed at.” Lady Gaga had previously been praised by PETA for her anti-fur stance. “I hate fur and I don’t wear fur,” the singer had said on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2009. However, the animal rights group lambasted Gaga for being a hypocrite last month after she was seen donning a number of fur coats in public. “These recent photos of you in fox and rabbit and with a wolf carcass make it appear that you have amnesia. What happened? Are your stylists telling you that it’s fake, or are you a turncoat?” wrote Dan Matthews, PETA’s senior vice president, in a letter published on the group’s website. The “Born This Way” singer has yet to confirm whether or not her fur coats were real, but has defiantly responded to the accusations with a cheeky tweet. In Utah you can have multiple wives… but if your syndicated TV show has anything to do with being Gay, it will get banned! The Utah station, KSL-TV, said it won’t broadcast New Normal when it premieres this fall. New Normal is based on a single mother’s life as she becomes a surrogate for a gay couple and ya know…that’s bad. “After viewing the pilot episode of The New Normal, we have made the decision to keep it off our fall schedule,” Jeff Simpson, CEO of KSL parent company Bonneville International, told Deseret News. “For our brand, this program simply feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time.” Crude dialogue, explicit content and offensive characterizations were the main reasons why KSL-TV would not bring New Normal to air when it launches Sept. 11. Nadzeya Ostapchuk Costs Belarus Gold Medal For Shot Put After Testing Positive For Steroids Turns out the London Olympics wasn’t steroid free after all! Shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk of Belarus became the first athlete to be stripped of a medal at the London Olympics after her gold was withdrawn Monday for doping. Valerie Adams of New Zealand was awarded the gold and Evgeniia Kolodko of Russia was bumped up to silver. Fourth-place finisher Gong Lijiao of China was moved up to bronze. The International Olympic Committee said Ostapchuk tested positive for the steroid metenolone. She won the shot put exactly a week earlier. The IOC said she was tested the day before her competition and again following the event. Both samples were positive. “The (Olympic committee) of Belarus is ordered to return to the IOC, as soon as possible, the medal, diploma and medallist pin awarded to the athlete in relation to the above-noted event,” the IOC said in a statement. The announcement came hours after the flame was extinguished at the closing ceremony with athletes and officials heading out of London. A day earlier, IOC President Jacques Rogge had proclaimed the fight against doping a success. The Belarus team had already sent home hammer thrower Ivan Tsikhan because of suspicions over a sample provided after his silver-medal performance at the 2004 Athens Games. Besides Ostapchuk, only one athlete tested positive for a banned substance after competing. U.S. judo fighter Nick Delpopolo was cited for traces of kush in his urine sample. He blamed “inadvertent consumption” of food baked with the substance. The IOC disqualified him from seventh place in the 73-kilogram class. Seven more were caught in doping controls conducted since the official testing period for the games began July 16. One of the seven competed in London before her test result was known. “I think that is a sign that the system works,” Rogge said Sunday. “I am happy about the fact that we could catch athletes who cheated, both before the games and at the games.” The IOC had said this would be its most extensive Olympic anti-doping program. It took almost 6,000 urine and blood samples, including no-notice tests ahead of athletes competing. Rogge cautioned that some samples are still being analyzed and “we might hear something tomorrow or the day after. Hopefully not, but you never know.” Syrian runner Ghfran Almouhamad tested positive for the stimulant methylhexaneamine two days before her 400-meter hurdles heat. She placed eighth and was eliminated before the IOC disqualified her. Until this latest turn of events, the London Games were set to end with medal standings in all 302 events unaltered by doping scandals. Three Beijing events were tainted during the games, and two more medals were changed months later when a new test for the blood-booster CERA was introduced. The signature men’s 1,500-meter gold medal was stripped from Rashid Ramzi of Bahrain. Rogge reminded that the IOC will store all samples from London and can reanalyze them, revise results and reallocate medals until the statute of limitations expires in August 2020. “When there is no new tests, we wait until the last moment; if there is a breakthrough new test, we’ll test immediately,” he said. Indeed, the next Olympic doping scandal could be from the 2004 Athens Games instead. Next week the IOC could announce up to five new disciplinary cases based on retested samples. It’s kinda sad that this woman marred the pretty much perfect London Olympics, but we’re glad they were able to catch her so the athletes who didn’t cheat could get their medals.
