Keri Hilson Lets In The Men For No Boys Allowed

As the singer let MTV News tag along on a day of album promotion, she explained her exclusive title. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Keri Hilson Photo: MTV News What better way to spend a Monday than with “Pretty Girls Rock” singer Keri Hilson , as she promotes this week’s release of her new album, No Boys Allowed ? MTV News was lucky enough to tag along with Hilson and occasionally pepper her with questions while she hopped around New York City for photo shoots and prepared for an interview on “106 & Park.” In a cab ride to BET’s studios, we asked Hilson which song she’s most excited for fans to hear on the new album. “That’s a hard question,” she said. “It’s almost like asking, ‘Which baby do you like the most? Which child do you like the most?’ ” So, we tried an easier question. Why aren’t boys allowed? Or, does she mean that boys aren’t allowed but men are? “Yeah, men [are allowed],” Hilson said. “That’s the point of the album. I feel like I give so much of the female perspective, and I really wanted to give guys a chance to sound off and give their perspective on certain things, so I had to bring in the men.” By way of illustrating the point (maybe), we saw Hilson receiving a piggy-back ride from a manly friend. “This is a man’s job!” Hilson shouted. “No boys allowed! Only a man can handle this,” she added, referring to her burly mode of “transport.” After her “106 & Park” performance, we asked Richie, Hilson’s choreographer, whether she was a good dance pupil or not. “Uh, yes, Keri is amazing,” he said. “What do you mean, ‘Uh, yes?’ ” interjected Hilson, who recently caused a stir with her racy grinding in the video for “The Way You Love Me.” “I mean, listen. It’s a process that we go through, but Mama’s always under the gun,” he tried to explain, at which point Hilson cut in again. “Boo! Cut!” Hilson mock protested, and pretended to put her dance man in a headlock. “And she comes out and she wins,” Richie finished, laughing. “So, yes, it’s an amazing process, but Mama makes it through the fire.” Related Videos Behind-The-Scenes With Keri Hilson Related Artists Keri Hilson

Rick Ross Praises Keri Hilson’s ‘The Way You Love Me’ Video

Hilson’s video co-star compares the racy clip to Janet Jackson’s ‘Control.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Audrey Kim Keri Hilson Photo: Jason LaVeris/ WireImage Keri Hilson may have stirred things up with her steamy “The Way You Love Me,” but her video co-star, Rick Ross, is giving props to the clip, comparing it to Janet Jackson’s “Control.” “When I got the record, I most definitely knew she was going to another level and I was excited for her,” Ross told MTV News. “I love to see the creative side. She’s a sexy female and I think she showed that. When I think of Janet Jackson when I was coming up and she was doing her Control thing, I loved it. So if that’s the feeling that young people [are getting] or whoever is feeling the music, if that’s the inspiration they get, I think it’s dope.” “The Way You Love Me” premiered online last week and immediately drew attention for its explicit lyrics and the limited amount of clothing — bikini and boots — Hilson wore. Directed by veteran choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson (Diddy’s “Making the Band”), the NSFW video made some fans cry foul over Hilson’s unladylike moves. Others, meanwhile, praised the singer for her forward-thinking boldness. In an interview with gossip hound Perez Hilton, Hilson defended the “The Way You Love Me” clip, calling the video “racy” but in line with the perspective of her forthcoming album. “You know what? If you put it in context with my album, my album is called No Boys Allowed but really it means no bullsh– allowed,” she said. “In this album, I was screaming in a room — just like I was screaming in the song — I was screaming in a room with all my girlfriends, yelling all the sh– we really say.” No Boys Allowed hits stores on December 21. Keri Hilson ‘Pretty Girl Rocks’ For Troops At ‘VH1 Divas’

Songstress thanks soldiers for their service during her performance. By Mawuse Ziegbe Keri Hilson performs during “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” Photo: Getty Images Armed with her girl-power single “Pretty Girl Rock,” Keri Hilson rocked members of the U.S. Armed Forces at the “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” event. Decked out in a gold bustier, high-waisted pants and a fringe-laden jacket, Hilson brought her saucy, sexpot swagger to the stage. Flanked by four back-up dancers in stylized military jackets that showed a lot of leg, the ladies oozed sassy sexuality as the Atlanta songstress swiveled her hips and cooed, the mass of concertgoers cheering her on. (Click here to see photos from “VH1 Divas Salute The Troops” .) After giving the soldiers a fun show, Hilson gave a shout-out to the service members, thanking them for protecting Americans at home and abroad. “You guys are so beautiful. I just want to say thank you so much because if it wasn’t for each and every one of you, we could not be here and have the freedom to do what we do,” she said. Hilson reveled in that freedom by putting in work through the event. In addition to her solo set, Hilson got it started with her fellow Divas several times throughout the night. She joined Katy Perry and Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles for a rousing, retro opening number, and teamed up with Nettles once again for a rendition of soul great Aretha Franklin’s 1968 anthem “Think.” The songbird later broke down her “Divas” experience to reporters, and said participating in the event was “incredible.” “I’m in great company with past Divas, and not only is it about me being here, it’s also about what we’re doing here, supporting the troops. I took pictures with guys yesterday … and one of them just said, ‘I just want to thank you for coming. Thank you for doing this. Not many people do this and take time out of their schedule to do something like this,” she explained. “It’s been not only enlightening, it’s been very fulfilling. I’m very happy to be here.” What did you think of Keri Hilson’s performance at “VH1 Divas”? Let us know in the comments! Paramore Get Troops Rockin’ And Reflecting At ‘VH1 Divas’

Hayley Williams and co. performed ‘My Hero’ and ‘The Only Exception’ in Kuwait for Sunday’s show. By Aly Semigran Paramore’s Hayley Williams performs for “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” Photo: VH1 “Hero” is a word that is often synonymous with members of the military, so it was quite natural that Paramore paid their respects to the men and women in uniform by covering the Foo Fighters’ 1998 arena rock classic “My Hero” for “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops.” In their performance in front of troops at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait — which was followed by sets back in San Diego from stars like Keri Hilson , Nicki Minaj and Sugarland — frontwoman Hayley Williams, looking as rocker chic as ever with pink hair and a blue sequined jumpsuit, alerted the crowd, “This one’s for you” as her band kicked into the tune’s instantly recognizable opening notes (particularly Taylor Hawkins’ heart-pounding drum intro, taken over here by Zac Farro). It seemed the troops were just as ready to rock out as Williams and co. were, as they quickly turned into a sea of signs of the horn and crowd-surfers. (Click here to see photos from “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” .) Amid the flashing lights, both onstage and coming from the countless cameras flashing from the crowd (many of whom held glow sticks too), Williams belted out Dave Grohl’s catchy chorus, “There goes my hero/ Watch him as he goes/ There goes my hero/ He’s ordinary.” Paramore, who have previously covered “My Hero” (from the Foo’s defining 1998 record The Colour and the Shape ) on the compilation album Sound of Superman, didn’t miss a beat during their stint on Sunday’s show. Williams and her bandmates then took a breaking from rocking and slowed things down a bit with their love song “The Only Exception.” The audience showed their appreciation for the band with waving hands and lighters. The band provided one of the evening’s few subdued numbers of the night, and the swaying crowd (many of whom sung along with the chorus, “But you are the only exception “) gave the show a much-needed moment of reflection. While the song may not have been as obvious a choice as “My Hero” (particularly when they have a hard-rocking repertoire that includes hits like “Brick by Boring Brick” and “Decode”), it seemed to resonate hugely with the crowd (many of whom, perhaps, were thinking of their loved ones at home during the performance, particularly during lines like “I know you’re leaving in the morning when you wake up/ Leave me with some kind of proof it’s not a dream”). The service members attending the “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” weren’t the first to take Williams’ ballad to heart this year. The tune was also featured in the wildly popular Britney Spears episode of “Glee,” in which Lea Michele echoed Williams sentiment that, “That was the day that I promised/ I’d never sing of love if it does not exist.” What did you think of Paramore’s performances of “My Hero” and “The Only Exception”? Keri Hilson Forgets Words to National Anthem

Keri Hilson performed our National Anthem at the Atlanta Hawks-Los Angeles Lakers game Wednesday and in our opinion, really didn’t do the thing justice. The right lyrics might have helped . Hilson belted out “The Star Spangled Banner” in front of thousands of Hawks fans, which included musical peers and fellow Atlanta residents T.I., Jeezy, The-Dream and Monica, who were all on hand inside Philips Arena to witness the affair. Fortunately, the home team delivered a convincing win, because the night didn’t exactly start out strong as Keri Hilson forgot the words to the iconic song. The murmurs from the crowd are hilarious … Keri Hilson Sings National Anthem Hilson, who was linked to Chris Brown lately, at least hung tough through the mishap and finished the song. She also didn’t beat Rihanna at any point.

Chris Brown & Keri Hilson: Reportedly Hittin’ It

A year to the day we reported on Chris Brown’s arrest for beating up Rihanna before the Grammy Awards, could the singer be romancing a new R&B diva? He’s already collaborated with Keri Hilson musically, and last night, Chris “was all over” Keri at the Axe Lounge at Liv, where Diddy was hosting a big bash. While Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush celebrated the Saints’ big Super Bowl win , Chris was apparently looking to score a touchdown himself. Eh, eh? He and Keri were “grinding each other” on the dance floor, reports say, and Chris even made a request: “He insisted on her being in a photo with him.” Now that’s a big deal! Run for it, Keri Hilson! Chris Brown’s creepin’! The two left together, along with a group of friends. No word from either of their reps as of right now, but Keri posted the following on her Twitter page : “LMAO paps think they slick!! Gone ask CB & I to tk a pic on carpet then asked da crew if we datin!! LHLAB so, no! I’mma let yall know now :P” Okay, then. We’ll consider that a denial … maybe. As for Rihanna , she hosted a party at that same venue just two nights earlier. We have nothing funny or significant beyond that, just pointing it out.
