Katy Perry Releases ‘Part Of Me’ Movie Poster

‘From a hairbrush to a headliner,’ singer tweets of image, which shows her singing into a hairbrush in her bedroom. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry in her ‘Part of Me’ concert poster Photo: Katy Perry/Twitter/Capitol Records Katy Perry ‘s “Part of Me” movie poster is super-colorful and a little kitschy. After teasing fans with pieces of the poster , she officially debuted the image on her Twitter. “So happy to share with you the official #KP3D movie poster … from a hairbrush to a headliner,” she tweeted . “Get ready, JULY 5TH!” So happy to share with you the official #KP3D movie poster…from a hairbrush to a headliner…get ready, JULY 5TH! twitter.com/katyperry/stat… — Katy Perry (@katyperry) May 17, 2012 That “love who you are” message is represented on the poster itself, which features Perry in her PJs singing into a hairbrush in her bedroom. In the mirror next to her, she’s dolled up in a sparkling red costume and bright blue hair, singing into a candy-cane microphone. “Be yourself and you can be anything,” the poster reads. The big reveal came with a bit of a contest. The first 20 people who were able to put the full poster together out of the puzzle pieces she’d released and tweet a photo to @KatyPerry using #KP3D will be picked to have a chance to see their Twitter handles featured in the closing credits of the colorful 3-D flick. The July 5 release was directed by Magical Elves’ Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, who also served as producers on Justin Bieber’s successful “Never Say Never” concert movie. In a trailer released in early April , fans got a taste of what they would see and hear in the flick, including Perry’s candid confessions about her religious childhood and her split from Russell Brand. MTV News spoke to Perry in March about the film, and she explained just what fans will see in it. “It’s closing the chapter on [my album] Teenage Dream, but it’s giving you such an inside perspective,” Perry said. “This film, you’re going to see it from my best friend/buddy perspective, you’re going to see exactly what I mean and feel and think about everything.” The movie was filmed during her California Dreams trek. “That tour was so life-changing to me. I learned so much, I went through so much along the way,” Perry said. “I’m not necessarily trying to prove anything to anyone, but not only will people really hands-down know me after they see this film, but you’ll see me as the Dorothy wearing the red ruby slipper and at the end of it all I’m the [Wizard of] Oz as well.” Related Videos MTV First: Katy Perry’s ‘Part Of Me’ Related Artists Katy Perry

‘American Idol’ Elimination Brings ‘Relief,’ Joshua Ledet Says

‘It sucks having a lot of pressure on you, knowing that you have to do this and that,’ ‘Idol’ castoff tells MTV News. By Kelly Marino Joshua Ledet Photo: MTV News “American Idol” finalist Joshua Ledet won’t be taking anyone to church during this season’s finale next week, leaving bluesy rocker Phillip Phillips and budding diva Jessica Sanchez to compete for the title. The 20-year-old powerhouse received a record number of standing ovations from the panel and has been proclaimed as one of the best contestants in the history of the show. So, coming in third place with the lowest total of the 90 million votes cast this week might come as a shock to some, but Ledet says it was more like a relief. “I just felt relief,” the soulful singer told MTV News backstage after the show. “As soon as they said Phillip was going on, I felt a lot of pressure came off of me and I was — I’m not going to say I was happy — but it sucks having a lot of pressure on you, knowing that you have to do this and that and this and that. But when they said I wasn’t going on, I was just like, ‘OK. Now I can get this song out of the way and then go home and go to sleep or do something fun.’ ” But make no mistake: It wasn’t just about getting his farewell song out of the way. After belting out “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by James Brown, the Louisiana native claims he was so overwhelmed, he couldn’t fully recall what the judges were saying to him when they came to console him after the show. “I honestly don’t remember what they were saying because I think I was so emotional,” the preacher’s son explained. “I just remember Jennifer [Lopez] telling me never to give up and that my career is going to go higher from here on out and to just keep believing in myself. “Definitely, it gives me a lot of hope seeing Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert and Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry. All of these people that didn’t win have had a lot of huge careers, so hopefully that can happen for me.” That being said, Ledet’s career probably could take off if Jimmy Iovine has anything to do with it. For weeks, the show’s music mentor has continuously hinted at signing the singer, even claiming to know the exact type of album he should make — a bit ironic, considering the Interscope head admitted wrongdoing by picking Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama” for the gospel sensation to perform before being voted off. Thankfully, though, Ledet has no regrets. “I don’t regret any performance that I’ve done on the show,” Ledet said. “People can say one thing, but it’s what I feel in my heart and how I feel about something. So, I don’t think I’ll let people tell me what to do as a person if it’s not true to me in my heart. “I definitely did like the ‘No More Drama’ song,” he added. “It’s not a lot of melody, but I don’t think it’s a competition song. It’s just one of those great songs that you can perform at the Grammys or something.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Does Demi Lovato Have ‘The X Factor’?

Experts break down Lovato’s casting on the Fox reality show to MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV The world is still reacting to the now-confirmed news that Britney Spears and Demi Lovato will sit together at the “The X Factor” judges table this fall . While their spots on the show remain among worst-kept secrets in recent memory, these two former Disney princesses will now set out to prove they are savvy enough to judge up-and-coming talent on the Fox competition series. While L.A. Reid, Simon Cowell and Spears bring decades of experience with them to the show, Lovato, only 19, may seem too much like a rookie on the surface. But, she’s already amassed the kind of experience performers triple her age could wish for. She’s released three albums, which have all landed top-five spots on the Billboard 200. She’s starred on the hit Disney series, “Sonny With a Chance” and was the female lead, alongside the Jonas Brothers, in both “Camp Rock” films, which were incredibly successful for the Mouse House. All the success at such a young age makes Lovato a perfect pick for the show. “They’re looking for female pop singers who can engage a younger audience,” Monica Herrera, a senior editor at Rolling Stone, told MTV News. “Demi seems like a good choice because she hits not just music fans, but TV fans and I think they’re kind of trying to find somebody who can hit all angles.” She may have tons of teenage Lovatics, but Keith Caulfield, associate director of charts/retail at Billboard, added that she still hasn’t yet permeated the adult market, which makes this the right time to make this move. “I thought it was interesting choice just because, I mean, she is a star, but she seems a bit under the radar to a degree so this is a great look for her because it’s going to elevate her visibility and give her a whole new audience and a great platform to introduce new material,” he said. “I think it’s a great opportunity for her to really expand her fanbase. I think a lot of people are going to discover Demi for the very first time.” And, that’s why, Herrera adds, she needs to strike while the iron is hot. “I think it’s definitely a smart move; I don’t think she can afford to wait at this point. I think that is kind of a way to jumpstart it and really get herself out there,” she explained. “Obviously she’s gonna want to put out an album timed to the fall show. She’ll have the team behind her to really kind of maximize this opportunity and put out a single and an album that will kind of get the lift that she really needs right now.” Caulfield notes that Lovato will serve as the perfect answer to Spears . “Demi, considering her history and frankly her years of experience, she’s gone through the ringer,” he said. “Demi is probably going to have more realistic commentary, probably not harsh but probably coming from the point of view of ‘I did this before.’ Certainly her and Britney have the X factor, that something about them that makes them stars, it’s hard to pin down. I think it’s going to be good. I think they’re both interesting choices.” So for anyone wondering if Lovato is still too young to mentor, well, Herrera says they should put those concerns aside. “I really think it does [help that she’s young], especially since they are skewing younger and younger with the contestants. I think someone like Demi would have been perfect for someone like Rachel Crow [who competed last season]. She obviously knows what it’s like to be thrust into the spotlight in that way from a really young age,” she said. “I really think that she can be that guiding force.” Do you think Demi Lovato has the “X Factor,” or is she too young? ‘American Idol’ Leaves Hollie Cavanagh With ‘Nowhere To Go’

Judge Randy Jackson says Cavanagh ‘made the wrong choice at the wrong time’ on Wednesday’s episode. By Adam Graham Hollie Cavanagh on “American Idol” Photo: Michael Becker/ Fox It’s Joshua Ledet’s Ledet’s Ledet’s World. The “American Idol” frontrunner soared higher than ever while Hollie Cavanagh may have sealed her fate on Wednesday’s (May 9) performance episode, which saw the contestants battling for the hometown visits that await the top three finalists. The evening saw the final four taking on two songs apiece — one with ties to the state of California and one song the contestants wished they’d written themselves. (The categories were some of the loosest in “Idol” history, but hey, they can’t all be winners.) Joshua Ledet stepped out with Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up” (his California song — Grobes hails from L.A.) and James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” the latter of which earned Ledet his latest in a long line of standing ovations and had the judges singing his praises, saying Ledet was second coming of the Godfather of Soul himself. “Neither a man nor a woman has ever sang that good with that much compassion on this show ever!” Steven Tyler said following the performance. “I can go home right now. I never heard anything like that in my life!” Jennifer Lopez said, “I think people at home maybe thought, like I did, that they had seen everything you had to give and how you can interpret a song. We hadn’t.” She then started speaking in Spanish. “You’re making me speak different languages now!” she said, calling his song “sickening.” Randy Jackson put the cherry on top, calling it “one of the best performances in the history of any singing show, including ours, any show, any show, yo!” Yo indeed, Randy. Jessica Sanchez was no slouch herself, turning in a “crazy, crazy, crazy” (per J. Lo) rendition of Etta James’ “Steal Away,” washing it down with a stunning “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” the “Dreamgirls” staple that she delivered with the fierceness of Jennifer Hudson. The performance earned her the night’s other standing O from the judges. “It was a real moment,” Lopez told her, while Jackson complimented her by telling her, “Dude, you are phenomenal.” (It’s always extra special when Jackson refers to females as “dudes.”) Phillip Phillips, who’s been living in his own personal version of “Contagion” all season long, managed to fight his sickness enough to deliver a strong version of John Fogerty’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” (making two Fogerty songs in two weeks for “Idol”) and a splendid version of Damien Rice’s “Volcano.” Continuing with the hyperbole that has been tossed around like a Frisbee on the judge’s panel the last several weeks, Lopez said after “Volcano,” “After watching the show for many, many years and now being here for two years, it was one of the most beautiful, poignant moments a contestant has ever had.” Jackson followed by saying, “So yo, that’s wassup right there!” and calling it one of the best performances of the season. Poor Hollie Cavanagh, who has barely avoided elimination the last few weeks, may have met her end following her versions of Journey’s “Faithfully” and Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Her first song received good marks — both J. Lo and Steven Tyler called it “beautiful” (but when don’t they say that?) — but her Raitt song was slammed for being distant. “I thought it fell a little short,” said Tyler, and Lopez said the emotions of the song — or the emotions she thought she had to deliver with the song — got the better of her. Jackson was even harsher. “It gave you nowhere to go,” he said. “There were no moments for me. For me, it was the wrong choice at the wrong time.” The two-hour episode was padded with bonus performances, including duets between Phillips and Ledet (Maroon 5’s “This Love”), Cavanagh and Sanchez (the Bangles’ “Eternal Flame”) and a performance of Foreigner’s “Waiting for a Girl Like You” tied to the upcoming “Rock of Ages,” which gobbled up a healthy amount of promotional time during the show. One of the four singers will be eliminated on Thursday’s episode, which is also set to feature performances by David Cook and — hey, would you look at that? — Jennifer Lopez. How’d she manage that gig? Who do you think is getting eliminated from “Idol” on Thursday? Let us know in the comments! Pops says he sees a wedding off in the distance and says that Slade needs to clean up his image before he gets the seal of approval. Then they ride off together into the sunset. Gretchen and Tamra meet for lunch and cocktails and Tamra tells Gretchen she’s thinking of starting her own business. She wants to open a fitness studio and she’s telling Gretchen first (after Eddie, of course). Something tells me this won’t make Vicki happy. Then Tamra asks Gretchen what’s up with Gretchen and Slade. Gretchen says she supports Slade in everything he does, but the past three years have been tough. Slade has debt issues and if Gretchen marries him, his issues become her issues. She’s financially sound and doesn’t want to ruin that. Plus 10 . And Gretchen doesn’t think she wants to get married because of unresolved issues from her previous marriage. Something tells me she and Slade are going to have an interesting conversation. Vicki’s getting ready for a party. She and Tamra are launching a wine company. They’ve decided the party should be a formal party because people in Orange County never get dressed up. Ever. (Uh, The O.C. told me differently, Vicki.) And she’s going to make the announcement that Briana’s married. Because this is a big deal that everyone is going to freak out over, right? Minus 10 , Vicki. This announcement is more about you than it is about anyone else, including Briana and Ryan. From the one-on-one, it seems like Briana has issues with the fact that Vicki’s divorce isn’t final but she’s dating Brooks already. Hmmm, pot? Kettle? Vicki’s planning to introduce Brooks to her kids at the party when she knows that Briana’s not ready to meet Brooks. I can almost feel the fireworks already, can’t you? The flashbacks from previous seasons show just how delusional Vicki is regarding Briana and their relationship. Tamra and her son arrive at the launch party for the wine club first with Vicki and Brooks close behind. Tamra thinks Vicki’s headed for a nervous breakdown. Gretchen and Slade and Heather and Terry arrive and the only wife we’re missing is Alexis. Plus 5 for that! Tamra has an impromptu consultation with Dr. Terry about having her tattooed wedding ring removed as a surprise for Eddie. Brooks cracks the lamest joke in the history of jokes when he introduces himself to Michael, Vicki’s son, as Brooks and Dunn. Minus 20 . Brooks tells Michael that the two of them have a lot in common and thanks him for supporting Vicki in the past year. He tries to chat to Michael about Briana’s new marriage. Awkward.
