Reese Witherspoon Engaged To Agent Jim Toth

‘They are extremely happy,’ Witherspoon’s rep tells Us Weekly. By James Dinh Jim Toth and Reese Witherspoon in September Photo: Jean Baptiste Lacroix/WireImage Reese Witherspoon finds herself in the middle of a love triangle in her latest film, “How Do You Know,” but beyond the big screen, the Oscar-winning actress has her eye set on just one man. On Tuesday (December 28), a rep for the star announced that Witherspoon is engaged to Hollywood agent boyfriend Jim Toth, according to Us Weekly. “They are extremely happy,” Witherspoon’s rep told the magazine. The couple, who have been dating for the past year, went public with their romance earlier this year after Witherspoon called it quits with Jake Gyllenhaal. Toth, 40, works at Los Angeles’ Creative Artists Agency, a prominent entertainment and sports agency where the 34-year-old actress is a client; however, Toth does not represent Witherspoon. Earlier this month, a source told People that Toth was insistent that Witherspoon is his ideal woman. “Jim knows she’s the one,” a source said. “They’re a perfect match.” Reese spoke about wedding bells in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying, “My mom always texts me, like, ‘Are you getting married?’ I’m like, ‘Mom, come on! You would know if I was getting married.’ ” This marks the second marriage for Witherspoon, who has two children (Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7) with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe. Why Did Natalie Portman, LeAnn Rimes, More Celebs Get Engaged?

Relationship expert Amy Laurent sizes up recent string of engagements, including Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Simpson and Lily Allen. By Kara Warner Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images With the number of newly engaged and/or married celebrity couples recently announced, it is obvious that something is in the air. Within the last two months alone, there have been eight celeb engagements and one marriage. The engagements thus far: Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth, Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied , LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian , Ginnifer Goodwin and Joey Kern , Lily Allen and Sam Cooper , Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson , Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo and Tony Romo and Candice Crawford . And the marriage: Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky . So why the sudden flurry of committed coupling? According to relationship expert and professional matchmaker Amy Laurent, we can chalk it all up to the phenomenon known as “mistletoe syndrome.” “Around the holidays people get more in the mood, more romantic,” Laurent explained to MTV News of the term coined by her friend, artist Annika Connor. “Those are the times when people start re-evaluating their relationships. [It occurs] in November, December, January, and we see a lot of marriages, a lot of engagements,” she said. “And then there is withdrawal after the syndrome wears off, come Valentine’s Day, February, March.” Regarding the growing list of engagements, Laurent said she feels confident that all the couples in question have taken the plunge for the right reasons and not from the effects of mistletoe syndrome. “The thing I really like about Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo, they’ve been dating for about four years. They’ve stayed strong,” she said. “There was a brief breakup in 2009, but they got back together shortly thereafter, and it didn’t really last long. The signs are all there that they can last through the trials and tribulations. …They are going to survive the test of time. Nick has been married before. It’s not something he’s jumping into. She’s 30, he’s 37; it seems like a strong relationship.” For Simpson and Johnson, Laurent said she is definitely rooting for them. “She’s really come into her own,” Laurent said, citing Simpson’s prior relationships and periods of time in which she was single as the proper learning experiences she needed to be ready for the right one. “That’s why I think it’s all about timing. I think she learned from those experiences,” Laurent said. “Now I feel like she’s in the right place for it at the right time. Again, it’s all about timing. She’s definitely someone I’m rooting for.” Laurent also had a rosy prediction for Portman and Millepied. “I have so much respect for her. She is in such a good space right now with her personal life and her professional life,” she said. “If you look at her history, she’s been able to balance her life and succeed in Hollywood without getting wrapped up and becoming a Lindsay Lohan. She’s been able to successfully keep down to earth and stay somewhat private. She’s made good decisions all along, I don’t think this is going to be any different.” Finally, with regard to Rimes and Cibrian, Laurent said that the fact that the couple has survived the tabloid storm of scrutiny (they were criticized when they started dating after allegedly cheating on their former spouses) should bode well for them. “The fact that they’ve come this far to me says that there is a true relationship, a true bond,” Laurent said. “And there is something to be said about how they’ve overcome the trials that they’ve been through,” she added. “I think it’s something real, I think they have a good chance.” What do you think of all these newly engaged celebs? The rap superstar’s satellite radio station to air one of his and Jay-Z’s recent Detroit concerts ‘as a special treat’ on New Year’s Eve. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem and Jay-Z perform in Detroit’s Home and Home concert Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Eminem has had a big 2010, from being named MTV’s Hottest MC in the Game to scoring a slew of Grammy nominations for his critically revered Recovery . As a result, the iconic rapper announced on Monday (December 20) via his satellite radio station, Shade 45, that he would broadcast one of the Home and Home concerts he and Jay-Z played in Detroit earlier this year. “As a special treat, for the listeners and the fans who missed the ‘Home and Home’ concerts with me and Jay-Z, Shade 45 is gonna air my performance from the Detroit show this New Year’s Eve at 8 p.m.,” Em said. The pair played four shows, two in each artist’s hometown, Detroit and New York . The gigs, which featured a number guest performers, went off without a hitch and were praised by fans and peers alike. Dr. Dre credited the event with inspiring him to finally put the finishing touches on his long-awaited Detox project. “Being on the stage with Eminem and Jay-Z was one of the most incredible feelings I’ve felt in a long time,” Dre said in September. “It inspired me, it made me want to hurry up and get back in the studio and put more effort and more work into my own project.” “If you weren’t there, this is what it sounded like,” Em said, dryly, while joking with Shade 45 general manager Rob “Reef” Tewlow. “It felt great, man,” Eminem added about the experience. “It was crazy. The energy of the crowd. Just me being home, you know? I don’t know, man — it’s a good thing. Blessed.” Do you plan on tuning in to Em’s Home and Home broadcast on New Year’s Eve? DJs Drama, Ill Will, Rockstar, More Make Our Top DJs Of 2010

It was a great year for street albums, and Mixtape Daily salutes the street kings. By Jayson Rodriguez, with additional reporting by Hillary Crosley, Rahman Dukes, Steven Roberts and Richard Sancho DJ Drama, DJ Holiday and DJ Scream Photo: Getty Images/ MTV News The mixtape game took a shot to the heart a few years ago when DJ Drama’s office was raided by the feds. Artists increasingly opted to make mixtapes that were essentially albums, projects produced without help from DJs and comprised mostly of original material. But slowly Gangsta Grillz began populating blogs, the same way they used to populate the streets, and those sites served as the new Burkinas. In the last 12 months, the mixtape circuit has never been healthier — just look at Dram still putting out his trademark rap heat and getting his slow jam on, pushing collections by the likes of Chris Brown, among other R&B stars. DJ Teknikz helped Travis Porter ink a deal with Jive Records. And Bigga Rankin scored an exec position with Young Jeezy’s CTE. Then there’s DJ Holiday and DJ Scream: both spin doctors break acts like Bo Jackson snapped bats. Meanwhile, DJ Ill Will and DJ Rockstar have become nearly ubiquitous with their onslaught of street albums. Pay attention, as the Mixtape Daily team continues our year-end awards by saluting the Top DJs of 2010. Wax King: Bigga Rankin Bordering Blocks : Atlanta Street Credentials :

Mom Tells Heidi Montag: Show Some Respect!

Heidi Montag’s estranged mother, Darlene Egelhoff, may not be on speaking terms with the former Hills star. But she sure is blogging like a madman. In her latest effort on Metamorphosis of a Mother, she blasted her daughter , taking the plastic princess to task and saying it’s time to show respect. Egelhoff wrote that for a time, she’d “decided to leave Heidi out of my blog because I had heard second hand she was accusing me of ‘using her.'” Heidi and Darlene had the mother of all fallings out . Now says she believes her blog actually benefits Heidi Montag “and if anything helping her image.” Well, sure. There’s nowhere to go but up … Last month, Heidi’s husband Spencer Pratt labeled Egelhoff a “hypocrite” who was just interested in trying to piggyback off her daughter’s fame. In her response, Egelhoff tore into her daughter. “Heidi was so unbelievably cute and such an equal part of our family, all but the last year, that without her our history is incomplete,” she said. “She is a part of our family whether she acts like it at this time or not. If you don’t like it Heids, call me, lets work it out, otherwise too bad.”

Obamacare Nightmare: 40 Percent Of All U.S. Doctors Plan To Bail Out Of The Profession Over The Next Three Years

Obamacare sure is working great, isn't it? According to an absolutely stunning new poll, 40 percent of all U.S. doctors plan to bail out of the profession over the next three years. Yes, you read the correctly. 4 out of every 10 doctors in America say that they are getting out in the next three years. Considering the fact that the United States was already facing an acute shortage of doctors in the coming years, this has the potential to destroy the U.S. health care system. Not that the other elements of Obamacare weren't going to completely wreck it already, but if hordes of doctors start running for the exits this is going to create a health nightmare of unprecedented proportions. The greatest medical system in the history of the world is degenerating into a complete and utter wasteland. added by: Revelation1217

Ryan Gosling Calls ‘Blue Valentine’ A ‘Companion Piece’ To ‘The Notebook’

Actor says his new film is about ‘the nitty gritty of trying to stay in love.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Ryan Gosling Photo: MTV News Ryan Gosling is set to appear on the big screen this month in a new film about love. Of course, while he might forever be remembered as the lovelorn Noah in “The Notebook,” he’s certainly weaving a different story about relationships in the darker “Blue Valentine.” So, does Gosling think fans of the sweeping Nicholas Sparks love story will find anything to relate to in this gritty, sexy new flick? “I think that ‘Blue Valentine’ is a nice companion piece to ‘The Notebook,’ because I feel like both are true,” he told MTV News. “That they’re both possible, and the truth is somewhere in the middle. But I feel like ‘Blue Valentine’ kind of picks up where ‘The Notebook’ leaves off.” While “The Notebook” deals with the courtship of two people who are head-over-heels for each other, “Blue Valentine” looks deeper at what happens after two people think they’ve gotten their happy ending. “There’s a huge period of time which isn’t in [‘The Notebook’]: The practical, day-to-day living with one another isn’t dealt with in that film,” he explained. “I would meet people when I did ‘The Notebook’ who would come up to me on the street and say, ‘That happened to me; that’s my parents story,’ because these people are saying that’s not realistic love, doesn’t really happen for people like that. “That’s not true, because I’ve met so many people that told me that that’s their story or their parents’ story,” he continued. “But I’ve also talked to a lot of people now that feel like this film is more about what it’s like the day to day, the nitty gritty of trying to stay in love.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Kanye West’s ‘Runaway’ Is MTV News’ #2 Song Of 2010

From its debut at the VMAs to its accompanying short film, everything about this Top 25 Song made our jaws drop. By Kyle Anderson Kanye West Photo: Getty Images For a song that landed at #2 on MTV News’ Top 25 Songs of 2010 , Kanye West’s “Runaway” starts awfully humbly. It will be best remembered for the epic short film that accompanied it or the jaw-dropping debut it made at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. (Or perhaps it will be noted for its four-minute Auto-Tune freestyle that caps off the album version.) But for all that sweep and bluster, “Runaway” kicks off with a single tap of a piano key, kicking off one of the most epic, jaw-dropping, honest and thrilling pieces of music to hit the popular airwaves all year. Those single notes slowly start to string together and give way to the drums, which are all low rumbles and twitches. A vocal sample stabs its way in, shouting “Look atcha!” And then Kanye starts to croon his series of heart-on-his-sleeve mea culpas. All that goes down in the first 30 seconds, and it only gets better from there. “Runaway” was produced by West, Emile, Jeff Bhasker and Mike Dean. The track made its debut at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, which saw West (wearing a flashy red suit) standing over a sampler and playing around, as though the audience just interrupted him in his studio. A series of ballet dancers (and Clipse member Pusha T) may have joined him onstage, but that performance was all about West’s massive personality and the scope of the song. The first verse of “Runaway” is pretty staggeringly naked, even for a lyricist as honest and direct as West. “She found pictures in my e-mail/ I sent this girl a picture of my di–,” he raps in the opening line. “I don’t know what it is with females/ I ain’t never been too good at that sh–.” But rather than sound authoritative and boastful (like he does on “Power” ), West sounds resigned to the idea that he’ll probably never figure women out. It’s a double-edged sword, because while he’s letting women off the hook because he recognizes that he’s no good, he also gives “a toast to the jerk-offs” in the chorus. In fact, the sexual politics of “Runaway” only intensify as the song rolls on. When Pusha T shows up for what has to be one of the best guest verses of the year, he lays out the compromise that has to occur whenever you get involved with a guy like West (who may have “a good girl” but is still interested in “them hood rats”). “You can leave or live with it,” Pusha T raps. “Every bag, every blouse, every bracelet/ Comes with a price tag/ Baby, face it.” The good life is waiting when you take West’s hand, but keep in mind that his yang has a yin as well. The internal narrative of “Runaway” isn’t particularly complex, but the same can’t be said of the short film that West made to accompany the track. “Runaway,” which premiered on MTV back in October, tells the story of a phoenix (as in the mythical beast) who falls to Earth and falls in love with West but eventually must destroy herself because the pressure becomes too great. It’s a complicated and visually stunning piece of art that will go down in history as one of the most ambitious clips in the history of music videos. Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is one of the most challenging and satisfying albums of this young century, and “Runaway” is the centerpiece of that album. It’s gorgeous and powerful, representing both a distillation of West’s psyche and an external exploration of the year he put behind him. It only got a vague whiff of the top of the Billboard Hot 100 (“Runaway” peaked at #12), but there was scarcely a song more thrilling and important released in all of 2010. How does Kanye West’s “Runaway” rank among the year’s best songs? Let us know in the comments! MTV News’ Top 25 Songs of 2010 countdown continues.
