In an interview with Variety , the Jumanji actor says that once he’s done acting, he’s going into politics. “I couldn’t do both,” he admits. “Realistically, as we go into 2018, when you look at my slate as we’re developing and shooting into 2019 and 2020, the slate goes deep into 2021, so it feels like the realistic consideration would be 2024.” The people have wanted The Rock to run for office for some time now. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The man accused of driving into a crowd protesting a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville faces a new charge of first-degree murder after a court hearing Thursday in which prosecutors presented surveillance video and other evidence against him. Prosecutors announced at the start of a preliminary hearing for James Alex Fields that they were seeking to upgrade the second-degree murder charge he previously faced in the Aug. 12 collision in Charlottesville that left 32-year-old Heather Heyer dead and dozens injured. The judge agreed to that and ruled there is probable cause for all charges against Fields, including nine lesser felony counts, to proceed. Fields’ case will now be presented to a grand jury for an indictment. Authorities say the 20-year-old, described by a former teacher as having a keen interest in Nazi Germany and Adolf Hitler, drove his speeding car into a group of counterprotesters the day of the “Unite the Right” rally that drew hundreds of white nationalist from around the country. The attack came after the rally in this Virginia college town had descended into chaos — with violent brawling between attendees and counterdemonstrators — and authorities had forced the crowd to disband. Surveillance footage from a Virginia State Police helicopter, played by prosecutors in court, captured the moment of impact by the car and the cursing of the startled troopers on board. The video then showed the car as it reversed, drove away and eventually pulled over. The helicopter had been monitoring the violence, and prosecutors questioned Charlottesville Police Detective Steven Young about the video as it played. Another surveillance video from a restaurant showed the car head slowly in what Young testified was the direction of the counterprotesters, who were not in view of the camera. The car reversed before speeding forward into the frame again. After that footage, a man in the crowd shouted an expletive and cried out, “Take me out.” He and others left the courtroom. Fields, of Maumee, Ohio, sat quietly in a striped jumpsuit with his hands cuffed during the hearing. His attorney Denise Lunsford did not present evidence or make any arguments at the hearing, although she did cross-examine the detective. Fields was photographed hours before the attack with a shield bearing the emblem of Vanguard America, one of the hate groups that took part in the rally, although the group denied any association with him. A former teacher, Derek Weimer, has said Fields was fascinated in high school with Nazism, idolized Adolf Hitler, and had been singled out by officials at his Union, Kentucky, school for “deeply held, radical” convictions on race. During her cross-examination of Young, Lunsford asked if searches of Fields’ computer, phone or social media revealed any evidence that he was part of Vanguard America or any other white nationalist group. Young said, “No.” Young also testified that he was among the first officers to respond to the scene where Fields pulled over. No weapon was found in the car, he said. Lunsford asked the detective what Fields said as he was being detained. Fields said he was sorry and asked if people were OK, according to Young. When Fields was told someone had died, he appeared shocked and sobbed, Young said. Young said authorities had identified 36 victims of the car attack, including Heyer — a number higher than officials have previously given. Some have significant injuries and are “wheelchair bound,” Young said. Fields would have faced between five to 40 years in prison for a second-degree murder conviction. First-degree murder carries a penalty of 20 years to life in prison. Charlottesville General District Court Judge Robert Downer Jr. also presided over preliminary hearings Thursday for three other defendants. Charged in cases related to the August rally are Richard Preston, who is accused of firing a gun, and Jacob Goodwin and Alex Ramos, who are accused in an attack on a man in a parking garage that was captured in photos and video that went viral. The judge certified the charges against all three men. All those cases will also head to a grand jury. Jason Kessler, the main organizer of the Unite the Right rally, was in court to watch the proceedings. It’s been a very, very, very long time since we’ve been blessed with a new episode of Sister Wives. How have we even survived without seeing the Brown family and all their wild and crazy polygamy drama? It’s a mystery for the ages. Believe it or not, the last new episode of Sister Wives aired all the way back in January. Yep, it’s almost been a whole entire year since we saw anything new from these people. We’ve barely heard anything about them, either — sure, there have been plenty of rumors, and of course the big things like Maddie’s new baby and Mariah’s new girlfriend are going to go public. But besides those few stories and the odd report that Meri, Janelle, Christina, and/or Robyn have finally come to their senses and plan on leaving Kody … Well, it’s been a dark year for Mormon gossip, we’ll say that. Thankfully though, 2018 is really looking up! After months and months of cancelation rumors — and no real word one way or the other from the Browns — TLC went and dropped a trailer for the new season yesterday! The premiere will be on January 7th — less than a month away! The trailer opens with footage of Mykelti’s wedding , which happened nearly a year ago to the day. We see Kody walking her down the aisle, and it really does look like a beautiful ceremony. Next, we see Mariah work up the courage to introduce her girlfriend to her parents! “Yep, Mariah has a girlfriend,” Christine acknowledges in an interview — and she doesn’t really seem too happy about it. Which is kind of hard to understand, because in the brief bit of footage we see of Mariah with her girlfriend, they look pretty happy and adorable together. Next, Maddie gathers the whole family — or most of them, anyway, it’s kind of hard to do a quick headcount when five spouses share 18 kids — to tell them she’s pregnant! She unzips her hoodie to reveal a little “Baby on Board” sign she slapped on her stomach, and everyone is very excited. All of that is great and wonderful and lovely for sure, but where’s the drama? Where’s that good ol’ Sister Wives strife that makes the show worth watching? Don’t worry, Meri is about to bring it! In the next little section of the trailer, Meri tells Robyn that she plans on opening a bed and breakfast back in Utah (remember, the family moved to Las Vegas a few years ago). She seems really excited about it, but later we see Christine tell her “You’ve been struggling to find your place in the family. Do you think that having something like this … it’s not going to make you more connected, and you haven’t really been connected.” She sure hasn’t, and for good reason. All the way back in 2015, she and Kody, the only ones who were legally married, divorced so that he could legally marry Robyn. That was the only way he could adopt her three children from her previous marriage. They made it clear that it wasn’t a traditional divorce — they’d still be spiritually married, it’s just that Robyn needed that legal marriage more than Meri did. But you could still tell that it hurt her feelings. Even before that though, she seemed to be pulling away from Kody and the rest of the family. Part of the issue was likely the fact that she was only ever able to have one child, Mariah, and she’s all grown up and out of the house now. So while the other wives had their houses full of children and Kody’s attention on their little ones, Meri lived all alone except for the couple of days a week she was able to spend with her husband. It’s no wonder she ended up getting catfished . It’s been over two years now since Meri admitted that she’d been in an emotional relationship with someone online, and that that person turned out to be a woman who’d been lying to her. And, as we’re seeing now, that relationship is still causing issues for Meri, and also for her relationship with Kody. Elsewhere in the trailer that keeps on giving, Kody reveals that “Meri’s ready to go back into a deep and intimate relationship, and I’m not.” “I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Meri says later. “And I feel like I’m just kind of walking in the dark.” It’s all very sad, but in a sweet moment, her sister wives pull her aside to tell her that “No matter what is happening with you and Kody, we still love you.” And then finally we see Maddie giving birth in a bathtub at one of the Brown family homes. It’s … it sure is something. Can you even wait to see this family back on TV?!

According to Variety , PBS put out the following statement about the situation: “Effective today, PBS has indefinitely suspended distribution of ‘Tavis Smiley,’ produced by TS Media, an independent production company,” the public broadcaster said. “PBS engaged an outside law firm to conduct an investigation immediately after learning of troubling allegations regarding Mr. Smiley. This investigation included interviews with witnesses as well as with Mr. Smiley. The inquiry uncovered multiple, credible allegations of conduct that is inconsistent with the values and standards of PBS, and the totality of this information led to today’s decision.” Sources told Variety that the law firm in charge of the investigation took reports from 10 witnesses, a diverse men and women from different races and employment levels within Smiley’s organization. However, most of them former staffers. But what PBS found was eye-opening and they believe the following accounts are credible: Smiley engaged in sexual relationships with multiple employees who worked underneath him. Some witnesses interviewed expressed concern that their employment status was linked to the status of a sexual relationship with Smiley. In addition, witnesses described Smiley as creating a verbally abusive and threatening environment that went beyond what could be expected in a typical high-pressure work environment. Several expressed concerns about retaliation if they came forward or reported his behavior to higher ups. Of course, Smiley is denying all of these allegations. The PBS investigators refused to review any of my personal documentation, refused to provide me the names of any accusers, refused to speak to my current staff, and refused to provide me any semblance of due process to defend myself against allegations from unknown sources. Their mind was made up. Almost immediately following the meeting, this story broke in Variety as an “exclusive.” Indeed, I learned more about these allegations reading the Variety story than the PBS investigator shared with me, the accused, in our 3 hour face to face meeting. My attorneys were sent a formal letter invoking a contractual provision to not distribute my programming, and that was it. Put simply, PBS overreacted and conducted a biased and sloppy investigation, which led to a rush to judgment, and trampling on a reputation that I have spent an entire lifetime trying to establish. This has gone too far. And, I, for one, intend to fight back. It’s time for a real conversation in America, so men and women know how to engage in the workplace. Despite the drama-filled 24 hours that have surrounded her, Omarosa Manigault still managed to head to the Good Morning America studios for a sit-down interview to let the world know her side of why she’s no longer a member of the Trump administration. Apparently, everyone but Omarosa Manigault knows that she was fired from her “never really explained” position in the Trump White House, however that didn’t stop her from going on Good Morning America and telling Michael Strahan her side of things. Reports immediately started flying about Omarosa’s unceremonious exit from the White House, which included being physically escorted off the premises, her cursing and yelling and demanding to speak to Trump before she left. In her first (and very quick) interview since the turn of events, she did what was expected—denied everything and insisted that she resigned to “pursue other opportunities.” This is the same sentiment that was echoed by Trump, as he tweeted and thanked Omarosa for her service. Kailyn Lowry and Javi Marroquin are no longer writing a book together, but that doesn’t mean that Kailyn’s done writing. No, Kail is coming out with her own book. And we can only imagine the things that she’ll have to say, considering that Javi will no longer be her coauthor. And apparently it’s all because Javi Marroquin is banging Briana DeJesus . Can you believe that there was a time when fans worried that Briana being on the show would be boring? Until pretty recently, Kailyn Lowry and Javi Marroquin were working together on a book, which would have been titled He Said, She Said . The erstwhile coauthors had a falling out because, well, Javi could have dated any woman on the planet who isn’t one of his baby mama’s costars, but instead landed in bed with Briana DeJesus. And, of course, Briana DeJesus and Kailyn Lowry have been feuding . What a mess. Kailyn broke the news to RadarOnline that they’d canned their joint book-writing venture, and she phrased it as delicately as possible: “We are working diligently on the co-parenting thing. It was just too difficult to try to do business together at this time.” Kailyn Lowry rules at coparenting , so if she and Javi are struggling with it, then this is definitely intense. “It wasn’t going to work out because we recently fell back into a bad place.” Well, Javi did the falling . And Briana DeJesus was the bad place . Javi also had his statement about why he and Kailyn were no longer doing the book. “I decided I want to cut all ties with Kail and I didn’t want to come out with this book and have to go on tour. That’s behind me.” Really? He wants to cut all ties with Kailyn? What the heck does he call Lincoln, their son? We’ll chalk that up to a poor choice of words. Speaking of choice words, however, Kailyn has an announcement to make: Speaking to RadarOnline , Kailyn Lowry shares some exciting news. “I’ve experienced so much over the years but most importantly, I’ve learned a lot.” That’s true. Being a mother teaches you a lot, but being a reality star? That can be a very educational experience. Being both at once has to be an adventure. “I know that there are tons of mothers just like me in the world who are strong but also need support.” And she believes that she has valuable lessons to impart. “Just because you’re strong, doesn’t mean that you don’t need help.” Honestly, though, this is getting hyped as a tell-all book, and the publishing house says that there’s more than parenting advice within the promised pages. Orie, the CEO of 13th & Joan Publishing House, gushed about the Teen Mom star’s upcoming book: “There is so much that the world has yet to see of Kail and her talents.” That’s true. A lot of people just think of her as a woman who got pregnant as a teen. And then got pregnant again. And again. But there’s more to Kail than meets the eye, folks. “She is insightful and knows exactly what she wants to communicate through her writing.” Honestly, all of the talk of Kail as an avid writer makes us wonder if she has some undiscovered internet pen names. Maybe she’s written fanfic? “Her new projects will reveal so much about her as a mother and as a person.” That’s why it’s called a tell-all . “While the world watches and is led to believe that they have the full story, there is always more to be told.” Well, reality television never tells the whole story. And then there are time constraints. A book will be Kailyn putting her words out there and telling things from her perspective. It’s doubtful that we’ll get the same tell-all from her ex, as Javi Marroquin is being deployed by the Air Force and, obviously, won’t have time to write a book of his own any time soon. In the span of just a few short years, Meghan Markle has gone from Deal or No Deal “briefcase girl” to star of a USA network legal drama to future royalty. It’s a trajectory that’s sure to inspire both misty-lensed Hallmark Channel romances and 99 cent erotic e-books with titles like The Finger Prince . We don’t blame the public for being fascinated with Meghan’s story. We all like to think we’ll be saved from our desperate, mediocre lives when someone with tremendous power and influence recognizes how special we are. Basically, Meghan is Harry Potter and Harry is Dumbledore and … well, we won’t get into the importance of knowing how to work a wand in both stories, but you get the idea. The point of that confusing and oddly profane metaphor is that Meghan and Harry’s romance is the stuff of bestsellers. But it won’t be J.K. Rowling telling the tale. No, it appears the first to cash in on the international Harkle obsession will be British writer Andrew Morton, a provocateur who’s previously authored biographies on Tom Cruise, Madonna, and Angelina Jolie. Somehow, not having not been smothered to death by the avalanche of smug that came from researching those three, Morton lived to tell tell the tale of Harry’s mother, Princess Di , in a bestseller titled Diana: Her Story . Despite the fact that the book was based largely on a secretly recorded conversation between Diana and a friend, Morton was able to secure the late princess’ approval of the project. In other words, this is a dude who knows where the bodies are buried, and now he’s coming for MegMar: “I was a fan of Meghan’s long before she met Prince Harry,” British writer Andrew Morton wrote to Fox News. “She has star quality, what some have called ‘the Markle Sparkle.'” As a man who has the sack to use the phrase “Markle Sparkle” publicly, you can bet that Morton won’t shy away from all the gritty details of Meghan’s 36 years. Or, he’ll just engage in 400-plus pages of ass-kissing, because the royals have basically made his career. Based on his comments on the project, we’re guessing it’s the latter: “Confident, groomed and camera ready, she is a dramatic contrast to the blushing, coy royal brides of recent history,” Morton recently told Fox News “The warmth and affection Meghan and Harry displayed during their engagement interview years is light years away from the stilted ‘whatever love means’ conversation with Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981.” Morton added: “Meghan is an exciting and genuinely charismatic addition to the royal family – she makes the House of Windsor seem relevant again. Hers is a fascinating story and I can’t wait to tell it.” Basically, it sounds like dude is a living Instagram filter. His version of Meghan has a flower crown and shoots out rays of angelic light when she smiles. So yeah, you may have to wait a bit longer for Markle to get the warts-and-all treatment. Black women in particular were credited for helping to push Doug Jones past the finish line in Tuesday’s election, a factor that likely added to the burden of being the lone African-American woman in the White House, according to BuzzFeed News. Ceasar Mitchell who finished sixth in the race to be the city’s Mayor before endorsing Mayo Mary Norwood, says his 2009 Audi Q7 was stolen. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution , officers were dispatched to Ceasar’s house after the politician reported that the blue car he left running with the keys inside and the doors unlocked was taken. “The suspects hit the gate column and mailbox of the home as they sped from the scene,” an officer wrote in the report. “One of the door handles came off as a result and was found in the yard of Mr. Mitchell’s home.” Fortunately for Mitchell, it just looks like the car was just taken for a joy ride and was found the same day in Northwest ATL.
