All it took was one night with Lady Gaga to drive David Letterman away. We kid, but the day after Gaga sang for the first time on The Late Show, Letterman announced his retirement as a talk show host. The comedian told his studio audience at today’s taping of his decision, with REM bassist Mike Mills Tweeting the news and various outlets subsequently confirming that Letterman will recite his final Top 10 List some time next year. David Letterman Retirement Announcement Letterman got his big break by performing stand-up many times on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He was then given NBC’s Late Night in 1982. In 1993, Letterman moved to CBS and became the host of The Late Show. His contract is set to expire in 2015 and he said at this afternoon’s taping that he’ll step away “sometime in the not too distant future.” That’s when “Paul and I will be wrapping things up.” In February, of course, Jay Leno stepped down from The Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon has been killing it in the ratings ever since. Expect speculation to soon begin over who will take over for Letterman, but let’s stop before that gets out of control and admire one of the funniest men to ever grace a television screen. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to come up … Jonah Hill Paid Only $60,000 For “Wolf” Via EOnline! The Wolf of Wall Street may be all about excess, but the money made by Jonah Hill to play stockbroker Donnie Azoff in the flick is anything but excessive. (Well, at least by Hollywood standards.) While being interviewed by Howard Stern during his radio show on Tuesday, Jan. 21, the 30-year-old actor admitted he was willing to work for the SAG minimum in order to collaborate with director Martin Scorsese. What’s more, Hill told Stern he couldn’t sign his contract fast enough because he was so afraid they would change their minds and hire someone else. But of course, that didn’t happen. And now, Hill finds himself nominated for an Academy Award for his performance opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. And you can’t put a price tag on that. “I am in complete and total shock,” Hill said in a statement after receiving the nod in the Best Supporting Actor category last week. “I honestly was not expecting this, on a level you can’t even imagine. Again, I’m clearly in shock. I didn’t have a plan for celebrating today because I truly did not expect any of this…Truly, this is shocking.” If Jonah wins an Oscar it will be WELL worth the pay cut. America’s Got Talent will have a very familiar look to it next summer: NBC announced yesterday that all four judges from Season 8 – Heidi Klum , Melanie Brown, Howard Stern and Howie Mandel – will return to the panel on Season 9. “Howard, Heidi, Mel and Howie have proven that they are a dynamic quartet of judges who aren’t afraid to share their opinions, while at the same time creating fireworks of their own,” Paul Telegdy, NBC’s alternative programming head, said in a statement. “Along with Nick serving as an incomparable host, our talent onTalent is among the finest on all of television.” Auditions for new episodes are already underway, with contestants hoping to follow in the winning footsteps of Kenichi Ebina . That dancer took home the top prize on Season 8.
