Huffington Post Publishes Bizarre Claim on Eco-Terrorism: No Deaths?

Sometimes, The Huffington Post just publishes stuff they should know can be objectively disproven. On Thursday, leftist author John Robbins wrote about people falsely accused of “eco-terrorism.” But then he had to wrap up by suggesting something verifiably false:   But apparently there are federal officials who for whatever reason consider the threat posed by “eco-terrorists” to be priority number one. This, even though no act of environmental protest, even those where property has been intentionally damaged, has ever resulted in a single human death. Ted Kaczynski (the Unabomber) was an eco-terrorist responsible for 23 injuries and three deaths through letter-bombs. Were they not “acts of environmental protest”? That’s certainly how Kaczynski intended them.

Hustler Publisher Larry Flynt Calls For Enacting Equal Rights Amendment

Yes, you read that headline right. Larry Flynt, the outspoken publisher of the men’s magazine “Hustler,” is advocating equal rights for women. Even better, the real punch line in his Huffington Post piece was that he blamed the failure of the 1970s Equal Rights Amendment on feminist stalwart Gloria Steinem. Readers are strongly cautioned to keep fluids out of their mouths and away from their computers for the duration: I have long believed the reason the ERA didn’t pass back then is that Gloria Steinem co-opted the debate about women’s rights, approaching it from a New York point of view rather than a national one. Saying things like “A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle” and “A liberated woman is one who has sex before marriage and a job after,” not to mention “make him sleep on the wet spot,” didn’t go over well with women in the Midwest who considered themselves feminists but still wanted to be mothers. If there is one person to blame for the failure of the ERA to pass, it’s Ms. Steinem.  With that on the table, Flynt called for the ERA to be proposed once again in Congress. “Surely without the ill-advised, self-serving rhetoric of Ms. Steinem, reason can prevail.” Actually, with the current state of the economy, any future ERA might have to be to protect men and not women, as this recession has been far harder on male workers than female employees. The unemployment rate for men stands at 10.6 percent; it’s only 8.6 percent for women. Beyond this, recent college trends have shown far more women seeking higher education. But let’s not allow such inconvenient truths to get in the way of the entertainment value of Flynt’s proposal, or what Steinem wrote about the smutty publisher in 1997. Enjoy.

Liberal HuffPo Political Writer Validates ‘Little Alaska’ GOP Senate Primary Challenger in Delaware

Delaware might soon be referred to as “Little Alaska” not only because of its relatively small size in area but, more importantly, because the September 14 Republican senate primary in that state threatens to become a possible repeat of what recently happened in Alaska when little known Tea Party backed candidate, Joe Miller, apparently defeated the establishment incumbent, Senator Lisa Murkowski (absentee ballots still being counted). In the “Little Alaska” state of Delaware, Joe Miller comes in the form of little known Christine O’Donnell who is challenging “moderate” Congressman Mike Castle who has, until now, been considered as the sure victor in that state’s primary. However, after what happened in Alaska, the O’Donnell challenge has to be taken more seriously. Michelle Malkin is now focusing on that election in which anything, after Alaska, now seems possible: Well, 70-year-old, nine-term House cap-and-taxer GOP Rep. Mike Castle has a challenger. She’s Christine O’Donnell — a young, energetic, fresh-faced conservative activist with a real shot at dislodging the entrenched liberal Republican. She’s been traveling the state of Delaware non-stop and reaching out to conservatives across the country for support. I met her on Saturday at a grass-roots gathering of Moms 4 America in Washington, D.C. Castle refuses to debate her and has resorted to sneaking in and out of local GOP meetings to avoid her. He has bagged out on four scheduled GOP primary debates, most recently one sponsored by the League of Women Voters. The establishment Republican fund-raising organizations are sticking by their big government brother. Perhaps the greatest validation of the Christine O’Donnell challenge to Castle comes not from conservatives, who can be expected to support her, but from liberal Huffington Post political blogger Sam Stein who, although obviously disagreeing with her politics, has given her credibility with his coverage of that “Little Alaska” election: The results have not even been finalized in the quirky Alaska Republican Senate primary and already the political world is bracing itself for another instance in which an out-of-nowhere Tea Party candidate derails the highly-favored establishment contender. On Monday, Democratic and Republican operatives alike expressed interest and consternation (respectively) over the possibility that Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) could be the next victim of the purity purge inside the GOP tent. Christine O’Donnell has, by and large, campaigned outside the media and political spotlight so far this election. But on Monday her efforts to take out Castle in the mid-September primary got a major boost when the Tea Party Express, which spent roughly $600,000 on Alaska Republican Joe Miller’s challenge to Sen. Lisa Murkowski, pledged to do the same on her behalf. One question is whether the Republican establishment hasn’t learned its lesson and is trying to take out O’Donnell in favor of Castle. Stein offers this intriguing tidbit: Perhaps the strongest indication that O’Donnell has people wary if not worried was an e-mail late on Monday sent by a Republican operative to the Huffington Post with a quizzical bit of background research on the Tea Party candidate. O’Donnell, it appears, has no discernible steady form of income. The eyes of the political world are sure to be focused on Delaware aka “Little Alaska” on September 14. Even liberals are taking note of the power of the Tea Party movement in this election season. Note: Any writers, pundits, or blogosphere writers out there using the term “Little Alaska” when referring to the Delaware primary election, please be sure to send royalty payments to your humble correspondent who originated the term in reference to this election. Failing that, at least a story credit with link would be appreciated.

HuffPo Celebrates ‘Great’ Novels Giving Teens Gay Role Models

Do you know what your teens are reading? The folks at the Huffington Post do, and they’re happy to report the emergence of gay role models in teen-focused literature.  In a July 19 post, contributors Jessie Kunhardt and Alexandra Carr highlighted 13 “great” novels for gay teens who want to explore teen homosexuality or find “fictional role models.” Kunhardt and Carr praised the books as “worth a read” despite many of the books having generated complaints from parents and bans from schools and libraries. The list included brief summaries and, in some cases, excerpts of positive reviews from mainstream publications including Publisher’s Weekly and Booklist. The reviews praised the books for themes like “celebration of human differences,” “be proud of who you are” and “love can lead to acceptance.” One highlighted book, “Kissing Kate,” was written by Lauren Myracle, an author whose “TTYL” series topped the American Library Association’s list of Most Challenged Books in 2009. The books, written in “instant message” format, have been criticized for offensive language and nudity, according to the ALA. Another book, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky, was celebrated as a teen literature “classic” by the HuffPo writers. “Perks” was the ALA’s third most-challenged book for its depictions of “homosexuality, sexually explicit, anti-family, offensive language, religious viewpoint, unsuited to age grou, drugs, [and] suicide.” The Huffington Post is a vocal advocate for the mainstreaming of homosexuality through teen literature. Last June, the liberal blog posted an Associated Press article noting that there were “finally” books offering gay role models to teens. And despite the ALA’s list of Most Frequently Challenged Books, the organization has repeatedly shown its approval of the LGBT agenda in children and young adult novels. A report by the Culture and Media Institute found that in 2009 alone, more than 40 pro-gay books were given ALA awards.

Schaeffer: ‘Nuttiest’ Evangelicals Support Israel

Author Frank Schaeffer, son of the late prominent theologian Francis Schaeffer, can’t seem to find anything good about evangelical Christians. In his latest blog on the Huffington Post , Schaeffer criticized evangelicals’ support of Israel. “Some of the nuttiest American religious leaders today (and in the past) have latched on to one form or another of Christian Zionism,” he said. “To put it mildly, the evangelical theological/biblical ‘reasons’ have deformed US policy and made America act against self interest,” Schaeffer wrote. “This has also harmed the state of Israel.” Schaeffer suggested that so-called Christian Zionists “would rather see an innocent Jewish or Palestinian child blown up in a rocket attack as long as the ‘Promised Land’ is ‘fully reclaimed’ to fulfill their harebrained ideas of biblical prophecy.” He suggested that American Christians’ support for Israel was driven by a desire to bring about Armageddon, but downplayed a quote he included from a Texas pastor Rev. John Hagee which seemed to suggest some of that support might stem from Biblical history as much as prophecy. “Israel exists because of a covenant God made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob 3,500 years ago – and that covenant still stands,” Hagee told The New York Times. “World leaders do not have the authority to tell Israel and the Jewish people what they can and cannot do in the city of Jerusalem.” Schaeffer also took the opportunity to attack what he called evangelicals’ “unhealthy affinity with the idea of religion-based states,” criticizing those who believe America was founded on Christian principles. It’s not the first time Schaeffer has attacked Christians, including his late father. On Huffington Post June 17, he wrote that, “We need to eradicate fundamentalism in all its forms,” specifically targeting fundamentalist Christianity. He called the Bible “nuts in many places” and said “no one” follows it. In 2008, Schaeffer defended President Obama’s controversial preacher, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, by criticizing “right wing white preachers (following in my father’s footsteps) [who] rail against America’s sins from tens of thousands of pulpits.” Like this article? BP Spill As Partisan Issue

It’s hard to cast the Gulf of Mexico oil spill in anything resembling a positive light, but some Republican operatives are apparently pretty chuffed about the media coverage of the debacle, according to emails from inside GOP circles that accidentally found their way to the Huffington Post.
