Imagine not knowing what year the United States declared its independence, what country we fought to win our freedom from, or who was the General that lead our troops to victory. As hard as it is to believe, there are actually Americans that are that stupid, and Jay Leno caught up with some of them last week: Thoughts?

The story was pretty amusing when it surfaced last week: the Wall Street Journal gained access to BP Planet, an in-house company magazine, only to discover that the oil giant had sent out its own ‘journalists’ to cover the spill, and were sending back dubiously rosy reports . But the whole thing grew even more amusing in the hands of Stephen Colbert:… Read the full story on TreeHugger

‘I was very scared of boys,’ former Danity Kane singer recalls of her high school days. By Jocelyn Vena Aubrey O’Day Photo: MTV News At 17, Nick Cannon and Donald Trump dreamed big, not surprisingly, and Aubrey O’Day was disgusted by sex, surprisingly. When you’re a teenager, sometimes you see the world a little differently. On this week’s episode of “When I Was 17,” these three stars all reveal what that period was like for them. O’Day admits that she was still a virgin at 17 and actually wasn’t very comfortable with the idea of sex. “I was very scared of boys. I was very insecure about my body and I thought anything sexual was disgusting,” she said. “I’d get, like, creeped out if I even heard my friends talking about it, and all my friends were having sex. And I was just the one that didn’t ever have a boyfriend. People probably thought I was a lesbian.” Meanwhile, Cannon wanted to help out at home by getting an after-school job, but he was really more focused on being funny, which is probably a good thing since his humor is what eventually found him fame and fortune. “My mother made me get a job at, like, Wienerschnitzel,” he recalls in the episode. “[It was a job] just to kind of help ends meet. … I ended up getting fired because I was playing on the intercom system at the drive-thru, telling jokes.” Cannon dreamed of being a comic, but Donald Trump just wanted to play baseball in the big leagues. “I was captain of the baseball team,” Trump explained. “I was supposed to be a professional baseball player. Fortunately, I decided to go into real estate instead. I played first base and I also played catcher. I was a good hitter. I just had a good time.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Donald Trump, Nick Cannon and Aubrey O’Day — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert on Wednesday defended Helen Thomas’s anti-Semitic remarks by attacking conservative talk radio hosts Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, John Gibson, and Michael Savage. Addressing the comments that led Thomas to resign her position with the Hearst News Service, Colbert said, “Jesus Christ on a matzo cracker, Helen. What were you thinking?” He continued, “You don’t just blurt out racially charged comments on camera.” As pictures of the four conservative talkers appeared on the screen, Colbert quipped, “You do it on your radio show” (video follows with commentary): The Colbert Report Mon – Thurs 11:30pm / 10:30c Helen Thomas’s Reputation www.colbertnation.com Colbert Report Full Episodes Political Humor Fox News Welcome to the Bizarro World of today’s liberal comedian that doesn’t understand the difference between news and opinion, and can’t distinguish a talk radio host from a member of the White House press corps. But this is common for modern day media members who equate anti-Semitic and/or racist comments by folks charged with reporting the news to remarks they find offensive from people on the radio. Making matters worse is the number of Comedy Central viewers that actually rely on Colbert and colleague Jon Stewart as their primary source for information on current events. It would indeed be laughable if it wasn’t so frightening.

President Obama provided some conservative belly laughs telling an audience of high school graduates in Kalamazoo, Michigan: “Don’t make excuses. Take responsibility not just for your successes.” This from a president who has blamed the last administration (and the Republican Party in general) for various economic and regulatory failures under his watch. This should have been an easy target for New York Times White House reporter Sheryl Gay Stolberg, but she whiffed, even signing on to Obama’s “buck-stops-here philosophy” in Tuesday’s ” Obama Gives Students a Principle to Guide Them .” President Obama has been telling the nation that he takes responsibility for cleaning up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. On Monday, he imparted his buck-stops-here philosophy to an audience of high school graduates , telling them: “Don’t make excuses. Take responsibility not just for your successes. Take responsibility where you fall short as well.” Here are just a few of Obama’s blame-shifts, courtesy of Senate Republicans : “When I Showed Up After Inauguration, They Had Left A Big Mess On The Floor. So I Got A Mop, And I Started Cleaning Up Their Mess.” (President Obama, Remarks, Norfolk, VA, 10/27/09) “By Any Measure, My Administration Inherited A Fiscal Disaster.” (President Obama, Remarks, 3/4/09) “Now, If We Had Taken Office In Ordinary Times, I Would Have Liked Nothing More Than To Start Bringing Down The Deficit. But We Took Office Amid A Crisis.” (President Obama, State Of The Union Address, 1/27/10)
