‘Hunger Games’ Sequel Might Be Penned By ‘Slumdog’ Writer

Lionsgate is reportedly courting screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, who won an Oscar for ‘Slumdog Millionaire.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate Ordering a script for the sequel to a film that hasn’t come out yet seems to be a quickly growing trend in Hollywood. On Wednesday, we heard rumors that Warner Bros. already has a shortlist of potential writers for the “Man of Steel” sequel, and Thursday (November 17), Deadline reported that Lionsgate has already begun courting a writer for the next “Hunger Games” film, “Catching Fire.” According to the report, Lionsgate wants Simon Beaufoy, the Academy Award-winning writer behind the “Slumdog Millionaire” screenplay, to pen the next adaptation of the Suzanne Collins series. Collins and “Hunger Games” director Gary Ross contributed a lot of the writing for the first film’s script, and the pair had planned to collaborate again on “Catching Fire.” But post-production on “Hunger Games,” which opens in theaters on March 23, has kept Ross too busy to begin work on the next script, necessitating the hiring of a new writer. Ross is, however, expected to return as director. Negotiations between Beaufoy and Lionsgate have not officially begun, but the studio has apparently made its intentions clear. Lionsgate had previously announced that the three “Hunger Games” books would eventually become four separate movies. How those movies will be broken up remains to be seen. Recent film series to have done that, “Harry Potter” and “Twilight,” split the final book entry into two films, but there have been no specific plans announced for “Mockingjay,” the third book in this series. In addition to “Slumdog,” Beaufoy’s other writing credits include another Danny Boyle-directed film, “127 Hours,” and “The Full Monty.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Lionsgate Wants Gary Ross, Slumdog Writer for Hunger Games Sequel Catching Fire

The jury’s still out as far as I’m concerned on whether or not director Gary Ross ( Seabiscuit ) was the right director to helm Suzanne Collins ‘s The Hunger Games , even with the mostly-satisfying first trailer debut earlier this week. Lionsgate, however, seems more confident in Ross, as they want him to return to helm the second Hunger Games installment, 2013’s Catching Fire , with writer Simon Beaufoy ( Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours ) reportedly in the running to script.

Patti Labelle Sued For Allegedly Throwing Water At Mom & Child

Read the original:

Patti Labelle is being sued for allegedly throwing water at a mother and her 18-month-old daughter during a scuffle in a New York City apartment building. The argument supposedly began when Patti, who was renting an apartment in the building while she was appearing in the Broadway musical “Fela!”, allegedly yelled at the mother for letting her young child wander a distance away from her while she fidgeted with her belongings. LaBelle chastised the mother, Roseanna Monk, and when Monk scooped up the child and told LaBelle it was none of her business, the singer allegedly threw water on them from a bottle she was carrying and then launched into an obscenity-filled tirade. When the child started wailing, Monk reportedly made a remark to LaBelle, and the singer charged at her and tried to hit her. The Monks filed a complaint with police; no arrests were made. The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, comes five months after a West Point cadet sued LaBelle over a Houston airport scuffle with her bodyguards. He said they attacked him for no reason in March 2010. She counter sued the cadet, saying he tried to get into her limousine and was drunk and using racial slurs, which he denied. Roseanna Monk’s lawyer said Monk had asked LaBelle for an apology and a donation to a children’s cancer charity but was rebuffed. The Monks feel “someone’s got to teach her even a diva can’t attack and frighten and assault regular people in the building.” SOURCE Patti LaBelle Names Ledisi As Her Successor [VIDEO]

Is “The Hunger Games” The Next “Twilight”? [TRAILER]

Read the original post:

The Hunger Games won’t be coming out until March 23, 2012, but some are already comparing it to the ridiculously popular book series-turned-film franchise Twilight. The Hunger Games is also adapted from novels, and the trilogy penned by Suzanne Collins is extremely beloved by young readers. Twilight Breaking Dawn hits theaters this weekend, but The Hunger Games won’t be released until next year. Take a look at both trailers below.

Madonna Delays ‘W.E’ Release To 2012

Pop star’s film will have a one-week theatrical run starting December 9. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: Getty It’s been a big week for Madonna news. A version of her song “Give Me All Your Love,” off her still-in-the-works next album, leaked, much to the Queen of Pop’s dismay. And now comes word that her film “W.E.” won’t hit theaters until next year. Directed by Madonna, “W.E.” was originally slated to open around the holiday season on December 9, but now it will have only a limited, one-week run beginning on that date before opening wide on February 3, the Weinstein Company confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. The short theatrical debut does, however, qualify the film for any awards-show consideration. The new February 3 release date would also coincide with a February 5 Super Bowl performance that Madge is rumored to be planning. In September, the singer screened the film at the Venice Film Festival to mixed reviews. “W.E.” follows the love story between American divorcee Wallis Simpson and Britain’s Prince Edward, as well as that of a modern-day woman (played by Abbie Cornish) obsessed with the couple. In addition to “W.E.,” Madonna is set to release her album in the spring. Along with production assistance from Ray of Light producer William Orbit , rumor has it that both Nicki Minaj and rapper M.I.A. will make guest appearances. “Madonna has phenomenal understanding of both the minutiae of music and the big picture. Zooming in, zooming out. 4ever amazing. Plus VISION!!!” Orbit recently tweeted about the highly anticipated record. “Working with Madonna is a treat. Fantastic tracks and vibes. Going deep. She’s ON IT !!! This is THE album!” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Related Artists Madonna

‘Hunger Games’ Trailer To Debut On ‘Good Morning America’

In MTV News’ inaugural Hobnobbing column, we list the things we don’t want to see in the new clip on Monday. By Amy Wilkinson Photo: Murray Close/ Lionsgate Entertainment “Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor!” OK, I’m still perfecting my Effie Trinket impression, but consider this your official welcome to Hobnobbing, MTV News’ brand-new column dedicated to all things perfectly Panem. Each week, we’ll dissect the latest ” Hunger Games ” news, fangirl over Katniss Everdeen or simply share our surefire recipe for Peeta bread. This is one arena we’re sure you won’t mind entering. Today the talk of the tributes is clearly the premiere of the full-length “Hunger Games” trailer, set to debut on “Good Morning America” on Monday, November 14. Following the MTV Video Music Awards sneak peek of Katniss hurtling herself through a fire-washed forest, we compiled a list of the five things we wanted to see in an extended clip (which included, among other things, the reaping, Peeta and the Capitol). So in this week’s Hobnobbing, we’re turning that idea on its head and listing the three things we don’t want to see in the trailer. Let me explain. Trailers of late have garnered a bit of criticism for giving away too much (plot, punch lines, etc.), and I don’t disagree. Let’s leave a little mystery, studios! While I’ll be lining up for “The Hunger Games” regardless, there are a few moments that I think would be best served by a silver-screen reveal. Here they are: 1. Katniss’ Girl on Fire costume In my original wish list, I asked for a scene featuring Katniss expertly styled by Cinna and hinted at the possibility of her enflamed entrance into the arena. But on second thought, I’ve decided this moment deserves a similarly grand introduction — on a 70-foot movie screen. (Though I’ll still take Katniss done up for Caesar Flickerman’s talk show….) 2. The muttations Though “The Hunger Games” obviously isn’t a monster movie, the arena’s rife with its own unholy terrors, chief of which are the genetically engineered wolves spliced with fallen tribute DNA. (I shudder just thinking about this.) The best scary-movie trailers leave the bogeyman out of sight, creating heightened suspense, and these lupine nightmares deserve the same sort of treatment. 3. Any character deaths Author Suzanne Collins does not pull any punches killing off the tributes of the 74th Hunger Games, and while we’re curious to see how this violence translates in the movie adaptation, a 2-3 minute trailer is not the place for these grisly finales. (Especially if the trailer is to be suitable for all audiences.) Do you agree, “Hunger Games” fans? What do you not want to see in the trailer? Sound off in the comments below and tweet us at @HollywoodCrush with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns!
