‘Hunger Games’ Trailer To Debut On ‘Good Morning America’

In MTV News’ inaugural Hobnobbing column, we list the things we don’t want to see in the new clip on Monday. By Amy Wilkinson Photo: Murray Close/ Lionsgate Entertainment “Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor!” OK, I’m still perfecting my Effie Trinket impression, but consider this your official welcome to Hobnobbing, MTV News’ brand-new column dedicated to all things perfectly Panem. Each week, we’ll dissect the latest ” Hunger Games ” news, fangirl over Katniss Everdeen or simply share our surefire recipe for Peeta bread. This is one arena we’re sure you won’t mind entering. Today the talk of the tributes is clearly the premiere of the full-length “Hunger Games” trailer, set to debut on “Good Morning America” on Monday, November 14. Following the MTV Video Music Awards sneak peek of Katniss hurtling herself through a fire-washed forest, we compiled a list of the five things we wanted to see in an extended clip (which included, among other things, the reaping, Peeta and the Capitol). So in this week’s Hobnobbing, we’re turning that idea on its head and listing the three things we don’t want to see in the trailer. Let me explain. Trailers of late have garnered a bit of criticism for giving away too much (plot, punch lines, etc.), and I don’t disagree. Let’s leave a little mystery, studios! While I’ll be lining up for “The Hunger Games” regardless, there are a few moments that I think would be best served by a silver-screen reveal. Here they are: 1. Katniss’ Girl on Fire costume In my original wish list, I asked for a scene featuring Katniss expertly styled by Cinna and hinted at the possibility of her enflamed entrance into the arena. But on second thought, I’ve decided this moment deserves a similarly grand introduction — on a 70-foot movie screen. (Though I’ll still take Katniss done up for Caesar Flickerman’s talk show….) 2. The muttations Though “The Hunger Games” obviously isn’t a monster movie, the arena’s rife with its own unholy terrors, chief of which are the genetically engineered wolves spliced with fallen tribute DNA. (I shudder just thinking about this.) The best scary-movie trailers leave the bogeyman out of sight, creating heightened suspense, and these lupine nightmares deserve the same sort of treatment. 3. Any character deaths Author Suzanne Collins does not pull any punches killing off the tributes of the 74th Hunger Games, and while we’re curious to see how this violence translates in the movie adaptation, a 2-3 minute trailer is not the place for these grisly finales. (Especially if the trailer is to be suitable for all audiences.) Do you agree, “Hunger Games” fans? What do you not want to see in the trailer? Justin Bieber Shoots ‘Classic’ Video With Mariah

Pair team up for new version of Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ on Bieber’s Under the Mistletoe. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images / MTV News / Jessica Hyndman Justin Bieber has been very busy this week. He dropped a new album, Under the Mistletoe on Tuesday, appeared on “Dancing With the Stars,” freestyled over the Throne’s “Otis,” and not only shot a music video with Boyz II Men for “Fa La La,” but also managed to squeeze in a shoot with Mariah Carey . Bieber and Carey both tweeted about the video for their reimagining of her classic holiday tune “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” “Might have to go shoot this video with @mariahcarey for our duet! focused on the positives … the music. #UNDERTHEMISTLETOE,” Bieber tweeted about the shoot, referring to a California woman’s claim that he fathered her child . “4:30am and going hard on the ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ shoot with @mariahcarey !! #superfestive #underthemistletoe,” he later shared. The original video for the tune, shot to look like a home video, features Carey decked out in skimpy Santa suits and snow-bunny garb, running around decorating Christmas trees, playing in the snow, hanging with Santa and his elves, and generally getting into the holiday spirit. Mariah Carey seemed equally stoked about the video shoot, gushing about it on her Twitter: “Shooting the final take of ‘All I Want.’ duet with surprise appearance by Jilly beans & directed by my friend, the wonderful Sanaa Hamri,” she said, noting that the shoot was made even more special because it coincided with one of her personal milestones. “Happy anniversary to [my album] MERRY CHRISTMAS II YOU!!!” she added. “On the night we’re shooting the new ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ with @justinbieber.” Hamri has shot videos for Carey’s “Crybaby,” “Bringing on the Heartbreak” and “Don’t Stop (Funkin’ 4 Jamaica),” as well as clips for Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z and Christina Aguilera. The shoot lasted all night, with Bieber tweeting Thursday morning (November 3) that Carey and the crew had wrapped up. “Just wrapped the ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU with the icon and amazing @mariahcarey !” he wrote. “HONORED and I think this video is gonna b classic!” Bieber told MTV News that getting Carey to join him for the duet was surprisingly easy. “Mariah Carey is doing it with me! It’s incredible. So excited,” he said. “We wanted Mariah from the beginning, but we kind of thought it was really hard, so we didn’t really push the idea. But she’s on my label, so we reached out to some people, she got in contact with us, and Randy Jackson was actually at the studio with us, and I was like, ‘Yo, you think you can help get Mariah on the Christmas album?’ And he was like, ‘I’m actually going to see her in New York on Monday,’ and I was like ‘Yo, go do that!’ ” Which Under the Mistletoe song would you like to see Justin make a video for? ‘Hunger Games’ Is ‘Staggering,’ Woody Harrelson Says

‘It’s almost impossible to describe, it’s so unusual,’ he tells MTV News. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Woody Harrelson Photo: MTV News For all our fellow “Hunger Games” fans out there, the wait for the film’s March 23 release date is both highly anticipated and a bit painful. Lucky for us, MTV News has encountered a few of the film’s principal players over the course of the past few months, like Jennifer Lawrence and director Gary Ross , who have helped tease a few key details to make the wait for the film seem slightly shorter. Now, we are very happy to share another special cast encounter: our recent chat with Woody Harrelson , a.k.a. Haymitch Abernathy, who revealed the secrets of his character’s ‘do and a few teases about the look of the film, as well as how much fun he had with Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and his other co-stars. “The hair, when I was thinking about what to do for the character, I hung out with my brother Brett, and that is exactly the way his hair is,” Harrelson explained of how the long, slightly shaggy hairdo came to be. “I was like, ‘OK, let’s get a wig. Let’s do the Brett Harrelson hair.’ It’s kind of cool. I really liked the look. It’s a fun character, and I think it’s going to be a good movie.” We asked Harrelson how closely he resembles the alcoholic, unkempt, out-of-shape former champion, as described by author Suzanne Collins in the books — like, for example, if he wore a fat suit or gained a bit of weight. “No, I didn’t want to do the paunch,” Harrelson revealed. “In many ways, I tried to go against this rough, old, typical concept of what he would be like. I don’t know yet that I succeeded, but I think it turned out good,” he said. “I loved working with Gary Ross. I think he is just a great director, an amazing guy.” With regard to the look and feel of the big-screen adaptation, Harrelson called the visuals “staggering.” “It’s almost impossible to describe, it’s so unusual. Even ice in the glass, even the glasses are not normal glasses. There’s nothing that you’ve seen before. It’s real original artistic vision,” he said. “I think people are going to like it.” One of the things Harrelson liked — in addition to Haymitch, of course — was working with his young co-stars, particularly Lawrence and Hutcherson. “I think they’re just marvelous actors. I think they just knocked it out of the park,” he gushed. “Just as people, [they are] about as fun as it gets. They really are fun folks. It’s cool, because I’ve never even done a sequel, and I just signed on to four movies, so we’re going to be spending a lot of time together between doing the movies and press and everything, so it’s great to love these guys. “Having done this first one, I can say I do look forward to doing the next one,” he added. “It wasn’t a chore. It was actually the opposite; it was a lot of fun. They managed to mix business and pleasure really well, that whole group. I’d say we get after it again next year.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Zachary Quinto ‘Grateful’ For Support After Coming Out

‘Star Trek’ actor tells MTV News the response has been ‘enormously supportive — universally, unanimously supportive.’ By Eric Ditzian Zachary Quinto Photo: MTV News Since Zachary Quinto pronounced himself a “gay man” in a New York magazine interview and then took to his blog to pen an explanation about his decision to come out, the “Star Trek” actor has been overwhelmed by the positive response across the Web. “It’s been enormously supportive — universally, unanimously supportive,” he told MTV News on Monday morning (October 17) while promoting his Wall Street drama “Margin Call.” “I’m really grateful for that.” Quinto explained that the recent suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer, a young teen who was the victim of gay bullying, made him realize that he could no longer live a gay life without acknowledging in public that he was, in fact, gay. From the timelines of Twitter to the comments section on his blog, the response to his announcement has been supportive. “I admire your courage for looking inside yourself and realizing what kind of real power you have for making a difference,” one commenter on his blog wrote. While the actor has been an outspoken advocate on gay issues in the past, recording an “It Gets Better” video last fall, Quinto told us he’s now looking forward to diving more fully into the ever-evolving conversation about teen sexuality and bullying. “I feel like I made that declaration so that I can be a part of this conversation moving forward,” he told us. “I did it in my own time, on my own terms, in my own words. That’s exactly the way that I wanted to do it, and I’m really proud of that. When the time is right to continue the conversation forward, I certainly will do that. That’s why I took those steps in the first place.”

‘Hunger Games’ Cast Is ‘Amazing,’ Stanley Tucci Says

Actor promises a ‘bizarre’ Caesar Flickerman, just like in the books. By Eric Ditzian Stanley Tucci Photo: MTV News “Wait till you see Stanley Tucci do Caesar Flickerman,” teased “Hunger Games” director Gary Ross back in August as MTV News was getting set to debut first-look footage from the upcoming adaptation of the best-selling young-adult series. We had to wait then — the teaser only showcased Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen — and we continue to wait to finally peep Tucci as Flickerman, the flamboyantly attired interviewer who chats with each tribute before the start of the gladiatorial competition known as the Hunger Games. But whenever fans do get to check out Flickerman, they can be sure the character will stay true to the guy readers are familiar with from Suzanne Collins’ novels. How do we know? Tucci told us himself. “Absolutely it [stays true]. Blue hair. Very bizarre,” the actor said while promoting his upcoming drama about the mortgage crisis “Margin Call.” Earlier this year, Tucci was in England shooting “Jack the Giant Killer” when he began to map out his Flickerman look. “We had wigs made there,” he said. “I had some noses made, which we ended up not using and teeth and a whole bunch of different things. When I got to North Carolina [to shoot ‘Hunger Games’], we played around for about seven hours and we started shooting the next day. I was only there for about a week, but it was fantastic.” One of the scenes he shot was the pre-Games interviews with Lawrence’s Katniss and Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta Mellark, who confesses his love for Katniss during the chat. Both Lawrence and Hutcherson, Tucci said, pulled off the pivotal scene with an aplomb that defied their years. “She was amazing,” he said. “They were all amazing. She’s just so good and so mature at such a young age. It was really fun. Really fun. And Gary, he’s great.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
