It’s been a back and forth few weeks for Phillip Phillips since being named American Ido l champion, but we can now confirm the singer has, indeed, undergone a six-and-a-hour surgery to remove especially large kidney stones that were too large to pass. He’s recovering and is on track to take part in every tour stop this summer. “Surgery went well,” his rep told multiple media outlets this morning “He’s resting and will be ready for the idol tour kickoff in July!” Phillips fought through eight procedures throughout his Idol run, which ended in May with a victory over Jessica Sanchez . “[America’s] just seen a glimpse of what Phillip can do,” his father told People . “We can’t wait to get him well and 100 percent and really see how he can perform.”

We’re down to two on American Idol . The final two. Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez. One is a young white male who is easy on the eyes and plays the guitar. In other words: the same exact pedigree as the last four winners. The other has a beautiful voice and hasn’t been afraid all year long of tacking such major artists as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. She’s responsible for the single most memorable American Idol performance of the season. Either would be a worthy champion. Only one will wear the crown next Thursday night. Who do you want it to be?

Andrew Garfield has passed along comments and notes from his inaugural Spider-Man stint for a while now, but he’s saved his first truly in-depth press foray for a chat with the one guy on Earth who can literally relate to every word: Ex- Spider-Man franchise star Tobey Maguire. The conversation is featured in the new issue of VMan , with numerous highlights from cover boy Garfield confiding to Maguire about the absurdity of the casting process… “I’m friends with a few of the guys who were up for it, and I actually had dinner with Jamie [Bell] the night of my screen test and his screen test. We compared notes and war stories, and we kind of got past the ridiculousness of it all and thought it would be a nice idea to get everyone together and kind of interview each other about how messed up the process is, being against each other, and remember that we’re all in it together, knowing that when you take off that bodysuit someone else is going to be stepping into your sweat immediately after. It’s a weird kind of cattle call. But Marc [Webb] was great. He was very open and encouraging. You have the monitoring area with literally about 30 people judging you, looking at your face and whispering to each other—it’s one of the most disconcerting and kind of humiliating things to go through, if you’re aware of it.” …to Maguire singing his heir’s praises… “When it was coming together, I was particularly excited at two moments: one was when Marc Webb got involved. Joss Whedon has always kept his devout cult following close, even as his projects have made it big (or not — right, Dollhouse fans?). So with the mega-huge success of Avengers , maybe some of the Whedon faithful were right to worry that fame might alter their idol’s true path — the one that takes a step back from a big time Hollywood future to focus on Dr. Horrible 2 and homemade Shakespeare adaptations, for instance. And so Whedon took to his blog to thank the fans who’d been Whedonettes/Whedonheads/Whedonwhatevers all along, and also to link to a poop-related internet video he appeared in last week. Oh, that Joss. But really, now that he’s hit the big time, will Whedon stay true to the core demo that hungers for his quirky musicals and side projects and the promise of Air Bud playing jai alai? All this and more (it makes sense, trust) in his totes Whedonesque appreciation post. “People have told me that this matters, that my life is about to change. I am sure that is true. And change is good — change is exciting. I think — not to jinx it — that I may finally be recognized at Comiccon. Imagine! I’m Cindy and I’m 18 years old. I can’t even fathom that I’m actually here, sending an email about my experience, that I actually met Justin. I’ve been a fan of him for the past 3 years and every day of those 3 years I did everything to try and meet Justin. I’ve emailed Ellen countless times, submitted videos, tweeted Justin, handed notes at concerts, waited hours for him, etc. One day while I was on tumblr I saw a “Justin Bieber BIGGEST fan” VEVO contest, only thing it said “LA residents only.” Regardless, I entered and told them about how much my idol meant to me and 15 minutes later I received a call from them. They told me I had a really good chance at meeting Justin and to submit another video. I recorded another video and started to lose hope when May 1st came along. The final recording was held the next day and I hadn’t gotten an email. I gave it one last shot and checked my messages and I saw that I was selected to come down to LA and be recorded for VEVO for a chance at meeting Justin Bieber. I felt so humbled and blessed, but I didn’t know how I was going to get to LA on such short notice especially since I live 6 hours away. I used my money I had been saving for my Believe concert tickets to drive down that night. I didn’t have anyone to stay with so I stayed in a motel. With only one hour of sleep, I headed over to the studio which is where the recordings were being held, a few ladies took a liking to me which made me feel more comfortable. They had a huge snack table and the recording area looked so professional like a music video! I felt so worn down and exhausted but nothing else mattered because I knew I was there for my idol. Me and 3 other fans were recorded lip syncing BABY and then one by one we went up for an interview. While I was there, one of the ladies gave me an email to contact because she told me Justin was having an event tomorrow at MTV. Without hesitation I contacted the email and got information about the event. I felt like my odds were high and I left feeling proud of myself for believing in this so much. Money was running low and I was afraid I had to head home because I had no where to stay but I pinched out my last few bucks and managed to find a place. The next morning I received all the information I needed and the location. It was held around 2:30pm PST and I arrived at the location, waiting while each of us got a number and pass. We all headed up the elevator and then sent to a room that had snacks for us to eat while we waited for them to fix up the area. At around 3, we were all led into the room where the BOYFRIEND premier was held on MTV. It was amazing to be there and then we all met Sway. We were all lined up and told what to do. The questions asked were already picked before we went on air which was a bit unfair, since they just chose random people based on their number. Sway rehearsed a few times with a fake Justin, and we all got the feel of what it was going to be like. Around 4:30pm we saw Kenny enter and that’s when we knew Justin was here! Justin headed in a car and once he stepped out we all applauded. He walked down the red carpet and handed out a few hugs to fans and when he was right in front of me I was able to touch his back hoping he’d turn around and give me a hug. As the interview proceeded, BOYFRIEND was finally shown and during the video, Justin was so immobilized by his video. It was so cute to see how proud he looked. After the show ended Justin said with a huge smile on his face, “You guys want pictures?” White Kenny told Justin no and that he had to leave, but Justin refused and stayed to take a photo with each and every one of us. When standing in line I had no idea what I wanted to say, but it came naturally when I was right in front of him. White Kenny took my photo and walking up to Justin I said, “It has been my biggest dream to meet you.” He told me, “Awww well I’m glad it finally happened.” He gave me a kiss on the cheek and we took a photo. I hugged him so tight and I can’t tell you how proud I felt to be there. After the photo I said, “Never say never right?” Justin smiled at me and told me, “Exactly.” He’s the sweetest person and really is grounded. After I got to meet Kenny and we talked about his braces and he was so kind and introduced himself to me and shook my hand. We took a photo and I then went back and took a few other fans photos for them. Justin you’re amazing, there’s so much more I wanted to say to you but I’m happy I got to say what came from my heart. You’re amazing and I never thought this would happen, no one believed in me..but I never gave up. My name is Asia and this is my Bieber experience. The day it happened, Saturday April 21st, 2012 and I was with my friend Jade (@LABeliebs). We were originally planning on going to a concert that day, but we decided to skip it so we could go to the Boyfriend video shoot and try to see Justin. We arrived there at 9 A.M. and we were the only fans there at the time. We walked around the perimeter of the shoot for a while and came across Justin’s sexy matte black Range Rover . It actually said ‘Stealth Rover’ on the front. Swag. We saw this guy and he looked like he was calling the paps or something. We tried to talk him out of it but he refused. Then we walked away. We noticed that everyone was on the roof of a parking structure and that is where they were shooting the video. I’m guessing they were re-shooting the whole entire thing. Luckily, the parking garage that we had parked our car in was right across from the one Justin was at. We went up to the roof and there were a bunch of cars filled with paps, but we were the only fans there so we stood on the roof and watched. When we saw Justin shooting some scenes that looked like a burnout in his gold spray painted supras and blue jean vest, we almost passed out. After he was done shooting that scene he was walking our way with Fredo and Kenny to go back downstairs. He smiled at us at first when we yelled all of their names, and then smiled bigger when we yelled, “WE’RE BELIEBERS, NOT PAPARAZZI” lol. Luckily the paps got a picture of him smiling at us. (x) Then we saw Ry Good go down the stairs too, we said, “HI RYAN” and he said “HELLOOOO” in a really weird voice. We decided to go back downstairs to see if we could catch a closer look at Justin, and we ended up running into Vanessa (@ThatLadyV) and we had a short conversation. I complimented her on her sick sunglasses that apparently Justin bought for her. We also met two super nice Beliebers named Susana and Angelina. After that we went back up to the roof but there were more paps this time and more fans too. Selena had also arrived on set as well. At that time, Justin was angry. He got into his Range Rover and then that was when Scooter intervened. He yelled across the way, Justin said he wasn’t going to leave his car unless all of us left because he didn’t want to tape the shoot if the paps were just going to videotape the whole thing. The paps were being stubborn and said, “We’ll leave if you give us one more shot” and at that point I was yelling at them, telling them they need to leave. They had been there since 6 A.M. and they had enough shots already. They wouldn’t listen so Justin came out of the car and gave them the last few shots. My friends and I were screaming, “WE LOVE YOU JUSTIN” and he said, “Thank You!” and waved. We went down to the floor beneath the roof and sat in the car. We met this really nice lady who works on set named Patsy, and she thanked us for being respectful, so she helped us work our way around and still get to see the shoot. About a few hours passed and we got back downstairs and waited some more. Then we went BACK up. (It was a lot of back and forth) and we were watching again on the roof. It was just us and the security. They agreed to let us stay on the roof as long as we ducked down when they were shooting certain scenes. Things died down a bit and none of us were paying attention to Justin, we were all flirting with this really hot extra on set, we called him ‘Yellow Shirt’. He got into the elevator and it was see through, so I kept waving and he was crouched down waving back like a cutie. After that, we went back downstairs by his trailer and he actually came out. He ran towards us and these stupid people were bum-brushing him, but he promised to come back and take pictures with us when he was done shooting. At that time, I couldn’t even fangirl because I was just speechless. A few moments later Scooter came over , and I went up to him and said hi. Then he left after taking pictures with my friends. A little while passed and Fredo walks by. We call his name and he tells us to go up to him. Let me just say, he is so cute, I’d f@#$s with it LOL. Naw, he was super nice and I gave him a hug and we took a picture. I told him I created a cupcake after him and he said, “See this is why I love you, can I get one of those?” and I said I would DM him about it. That was that, and he left. Now we waited for another 2 hours until Justin was done. In the mean time, this annoying family who claims they were Beliebers were just being so obnoxious. In fact, they didn’t even know who Alfredo or Scooter were, and they said that Justin’s new album is going to be called ‘Never Say Never’ -dead- Now the time had come. We could hear the directors say, “And that’s a RAP” and a bunch of cheering flew off of the roof in a loud roar. His Range Rover emerged from the garage, and out of the car he came. The stupid family and a bunch of other fans totally rushed Justin, and it was chaotic. Jade and I stood behind patiently waiting our turn, trying to be respectful of Justin’s space and safety. Then we realized that he was going back to his car. He said he had to go, and right then and there my whole entire world just about shattered into pieces . We waited for 12 hours, through 100 degree weather and I was sick too. We were the first fans there, and the last fans there. All of that waiting and we weren’t going to meet him. I broke down. It hit me so hard. I was sobbing and the security guards who we had been with all day long were actually really surprised that I had missed my chance with Justin. It was the worst feeling in the whole entire universe and I wouldn’t wish it upon anybody. Then my amazing friends yelled to Scooter that I was crying. He saw she was talking about me, and I guess that did it. He came over and grab my hand and pulled me to Justin’s car. I was still sobbing though. Scooter knocked on his window, and Justin rolled it down. I waved to Selena too but she just kinda smiled an awkward smile. Oh well. Scooter said to Justin, “This is one of the best Twitter follower accounts in the whole world. I know who she is, she helps us every single day, she’s the one who puts together video campaigns for you all around the world.” Justin grabbed my hand and looked straight into my eyes. I just melted right then and there. He literally is, (no exaggeration) PERFECT. He doesn’t look real, he looks like a life size doll. Like he would break if I touched him. Almost porcelain. I know it sounds cheesy, but he had the most sympathetic look in his eyes and it felt like he was staring into my soul. Justin asked for my name and Twitter. He told me he had definitely seen that. Scooter then said, “Her username used to be iAmBieberConda.” I was blushing like crazy, I wanted to just die. He rubbed my hand and then asked if I wanted to take a picture. Of course I said yes. I was still somewhat crying. He sat up and stuck his arm out of the window and put it around my shoulder. After the picture I took his hand again, and said, “Thank you so much”. He said, “You’re welcome, have a nice night” and then all of these fans swarmed in. I ducked out of the crowd and went over to Scooter and gave him a hug for making my dream come true. Of course, after that I went over to my friends and started bawling. It was the best experience of my life. I wouldn’t have wanted to meet him any other way. When I got home, he then tweeted me saying “ @DazzlingJustin nice meeting u. dont cry. appreciate u”. I broke down again because I couldn’t believe it. Justin Drew Bieber, my idol for almost four years, asked me for my Twitter and took the time out of his day to say that to me. No other artist has a heart as genuine as his. My name’s Katelen and I’ve never written anything like this before, so here it goes! I live in Perth, Australia and I’m nearly 14 years old. In late 2010 (December) Justin’s first Australian tour came on pre-sale and I knew I would never be able to afford tickets. So Mum and I entered all the competitions you can enter for tickets to his concerts, or even more; a meet and greet as well. Tickets kept on selling out so I’d cry, then they’d release more tickets so everything would be alright. I saw so, so, so, so many competition winners be announced from the radio stations, music t.v shows, newspapers and even social messaging sites (MSN). Everyday I got so jealous. On April 18th I got a mention from a girl on Twitter saying “Congrats on winning the Justin Bieber Competition”. I instantly got very excited and replied “Which one?” because I’d entered a lot of them. I logged onto my emails to find 2 emails from ninemsn – I cried. The first one was just a “Congratulations you won!”, the second one was from a Representative. Confirming my address and phone number as my phone had been turned off from being at school. Julia (The Representative) rang me and told me personally that I was going to meet my idol! I also had the choice to choice a friend; I chose my Mum. She was the one who helped all this happen after all. The morning of 7th of May was very hectic. My dad came around to get my brothers because mum and I wouldn’t be home until late. I was the only one home my mum had to take my brother to one of his competitive football games north of Perth. 12 o’clock wouldn’t come quick enough! 12 o’clock came and we arrived at Burswood Dome at approximately 2:30pm. Bought some merchandise, and mingled with the other beliebers. At 4:30 we had to meet Pat at the box office, and he gave us and about 100 more fans their wristbands. We walked through the stadium, and backstage to see Alfredo, Ryan, Dan and Kenny! Justin was waiting behind the black curtain and we had to go in groups of 4. We went in with 2 other random girls. At first I wasn’t going to stand next to stand next to Justin, I stood next to the other girl and my Mum was about to walk around to the other side when Kenny asked her “Is this your daughter ma’am?” So he moved the other girl around the other side so me, mum and Justin could stand next to each other! (I’m on the right of Justin, and My mum’s the one looking over). We then got escorted out into the stadium and waited there until all the meet and greets were over. Then we went to the main area. We could either go outside or stay in there and get to our seats first, we decided to stay inside as the lines were kilometres long. We were allowed to go to our seats first; it was empty! Then swarms of other girls entered and soon it eventually was full! The show started late, and Dash and Will; the opening act came on, Then DJ Tay James came on and DJ’ed for 15 minuted then it started!! I couldn’t contain my excitement! I swear Justin pointed at me during ‘U Smile’ and ‘Somebody To Love’ but it could’ve been someone next to, behind, or in front of me!
