On the ABC Upfront party red carpet this week, John Legend – one of the four singers who will be teaming up with amateurs across the country on the new singing competition – was asked about the new X Factor judges, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato , and replied: “You know it’s interesting. It should be very interesting. I don’t have much to say,” Legend told E! News. “It’s interesting when people, you know, are judging singing competitions when they aren’t really singers.” Ouch! Interesting is one diplomatic word for it, yes. Robin Thicke, who will also appear on Duets , gave the young ladies some credit at least: “Oh come on, everything Britney does, she excels at. Demi is a lovely young lady, and I’m sure they’ll do nothing but make the show a lot more fun to watch.” Which of these X Factor judges has you most excited?

The song, released online a week ago but little-noticed because Bobby Brown’s career has been on a 15-year tailspin, is a confession of sorts. Bobby admits he “messed up pretty bad” and begs his late ex-wife … “Don’t let me die.” That’s right, even after her death, it’s all about BB. Bobby Brown – Don’t Let Me Die The song also features the lyrics, “I didn’t realize that every breath I took was from you … You were my air.” That’s actually somewhat nice. Brown also sings. “I didn’t know who you were, didn’t know what we had. Now I’m stuck living in the past … trying to get the pieces back. But I guess now you’re gone.” Guess so. Brown, who’s been making the media rounds to reiterate that Whitney’s death is not his fault , performed the track live last night for the FIRST TIME EVER, will be releasing the sensual track on his new album in June, just months after she died. Proving that a split doesn’t have to be bitter or contentious just because it’s painful, the comedian opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about his recent divorce and had only positive things to say about former wife Katy Perry. “I still love her as a human being,” he said. “But, sometimes when you’re in a relationship I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? You can’t absolutely make everything the way you want it to be in life. At the Fox upfront this week, the singer appeared alongside fellow newbie Demi Lovato , as well as returning judges Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid, and gushed about the Fox reality show. “Just really being able to be there and inspire the other contestants … they’re so young and they’re trying to fulfill their dreams,” she said at the event. “It’s just a whole beautiful concept. It’s just really cool.” While her negotiations with the show had been making headlines in the weeks leading up to the official announcement, Cowell brushed off all the hoopla, which includes a rumored $15 million payday for joining the show. “A force of nature, I was somewhere in the middle, but I’m thrilled. I love these guys,” he said of getting everyone, including Spears, on board. “I charmed her.” Spears seemed equally taken with the prickly Brit. “He’s adorable. He’s completely adorable. He didn’t have to try hard,” she admitted. Spears’ addition to the show is hardly the only casting making news: Lovato also opened up about having the “X Factor.” While little is known about the final hours going into locking Lovato in for the show, she’s rumored to be taking in $1 million, according to Gossip Cop . Lovato was on a short list of possible contenders to appear on the show that also reportedly included Miley Cyrus and Avril Lavigne. “I’m so excited to be here,” she said. “I guess you called,” she added with Simon by her side. “And that’s how it got set up, just a phone call.” In addition to getting warm and fuzzy about each other in the interview, Cowell shared that the judges will be filming in the next couple weeks when they hit up Austin, Texas, to begin scoping out talent. And if you think the claws might come out then, Reid assured viewers that that won’t be the case. “Oh no, we’re gonna be really sweet to each other,” he said. “Nothing controversial. Emily Maynard is happy to be The Bachelorette, and even happier that the producers didn’t pull any major stunts with the casting. That we know of. Yet. The Bachelorette spoilers for this season are still trickling in, so who knows what surprises await the beautiful single mom from Charlotte, North Carolina. The season premiere last night was relatively drama-free and went off without a hitch, with the exception of a helicopter that had her fearing the worst. That being the return of Brad Womack … or Bentley Williams. Fortunately for Emily Maynard , the producers weren’t cruel enough to subject her to her ex-fiancee, or that jackass from Ashley’s season, as a stunt. What a sweetheart! The letter his son wrote to me was one of the sweetest things I have ever received and if anyone can appreciate how hard it is being away from their child, it’s me.” “I’m so grateful that Doug took a chance on love, and I was honored that he saw something in me. It meant a lot and I wanted him to know that I would take a chance on him too and that’s why I gave him the first impression rose.”
