U.N.‘s Ban Wants ‘Credible’ Investigation of Flotilla Raid

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon is calling for Israel to accept international participation in an investigation of the deadly flotilla assault that killed 9 activists in international waters. Israeli authorities have rejected the idea of an international tribunal and maintained that they will conduct an internal investigation. BBC: But a UN spokesman said Mr Ban still hoped for “credible international involvement” in the investigation to ensure it was “prompt, credible, impartial and transparent”. He said they had not received an official rejection from Israel. On Sunday Israel’s ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, told US broadcaster Fox News that Israel has the ability and the right to investigate its own military. COK Investigation Inside Hatchery Leads to Impoundment of Birds by Authorities

Using a hidden camera, a COK investigator documented shocking abuses forced upon newly-hatched chicks and ducklings while employed at Cal-Cruz Hatcheries in 2009. The video evidence was immediately turned over to the Santa Cruz County Animal Services Authority and the District Attorney’s Office. In response, a follow-up investigation conducted by humane law enforcement not only corroborated our evidence of abuse and neglect but also resulted in the impoundment of 88 ducklings. Despite this additional documentation by authorities, the District Attorney’s office held the case for several months, and in late April 2010, officially declined to prosecute the hatchery for violations of state animal protection laws. Watch our undercover video—and you be the judge. Exposing Abuse: COK Investigation inside Cal-Cruz Hatcheries While employed as a maintenance worker at California-based Cal-Cruz Hatcheries Inc. for nearly a month in 2009, COK’s investigator witnessed and painstakingly documented miserable conditions forced upon thousands of newly hatched birds, including: * A chick drowning in a bucket of liquid waste * Birds entangled in machinery, their dead bodies mangled, decapitated, or missing limbs * Sick or severely injured birds left to suffer for hours * Unwanted hatchlings dumped down the egg shell disposal chute, then sprayed with a high-pressure hose * Birds thrown five to six feet across the room into buckets where they often languished for hours added by: animalia_libero

Prosecutors to Seek Murder Charge Against Bruce Beresford-Redman

It won’t be long until former TV producer Bruce Beresford-Redman is arrested for killing his wife. According to the suspect’s attorney, Jaime Cancino Leon, prosecutors will make their decision early next week – and the most likely charge will be first-degree murder, stemming from the death of Monica Beresford-Redman last month in Cancun. Cancino told TMZ he’s displeased with Mexican officials because it’s easier for them to simply charge his client than actually investigate the case. “Bruce has never had the chance to defend himself,” the lawyer said. “They didn’t even give him the chance to participate in the investigation.” If a Mexican judge determines there’s probable cause to charge Beresford-Redman, he’ll likely get extradited to that country. A conviction of of first-degree murder there results in a prison sentence of four to 20 years.

Children Taunted In Iraq: U.S. Solider Under Investigation (VIDEO)

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — An Alaska-based soldier is under investigation for a video on his Facebook page that taunts smiling Iraqi children by asking if they're gay, if they engage in certain sex acts and if they would grow up to be terrorists. The two young boys did not appear to understand the questions, which were in English, but smiled at the camera and at times flashed the “thumbs up” gestures during the 30-second clip. Spc. Robert A. Rodriguez, who is based at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, was ordered to remove the video from his site, Army spokesman Maj. Bill Coppernoll said Monday. “The incident is currently under investigation, and the Army will take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation,” he said. It wasn't immediately clear if Rodriguez shot the video or just posted it, and discovering that will be part of the Army's investigation, Coppernoll said. The video is “disgraceful and clearly inconsistent” with standards expected of every soldier, he said. Raleigh, N.C., television station WRAL first reported the video after another soldier stationed at Fort Wainwright shared it with friends in North Carolina, who took their concerns to the station. WRAL aired part of the video and quoted from Rodriquez's Facebook page before the site was made private. Above the Facebook video posting, which was titled, “future gay terrorist!,” is written, “i got bored in iraq … so I kept myself entertained!” The boys are shown on a dirt road, facing a camera. A voice is heard asking the boys, “Are you going to grow up to be a terrorist?” When the boys show two thumbs up, the voice on the video says, “Yeah. All right. Cool. Yeah, terrorist.” There was no phone listing for Rodriguez in the Fairbanks area. Coppernoll said he did not know the soldier's hometown, but the video of the Facebook page shown on WRAL indicated Rodriguez listed Miami. “For anybody to be so cruel and disrespectful to children of any country but especially a country that we are occupying is really disgraceful and repugnant,” said Tim Stallard, a spokesman for Alaskans Together for Equality. click story link to see video added by: TimALoftis

(The music world also reacted to the news of Gray’s death here .) “Rest in peace, Paul Gray, keep on rockin’ up there, we will miss you,” wrote Nathan, summing up the general feeling among supporters about the 38-year-old musician known as “#2” or “The Pig,” due to his signature mask. “R.I.P. Paul Gray,” Jonny added. “We all know, if heaven actually exists, then you’re rocking up there with Dio,” he wrote, referring to the death of iconic metal singer Ronnie James Dio , 67, on May 16 after a long battle with stomach cancer. There was no evidence of foul play in Gray’s death, according to police, but the investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. A toxicology test will also be done to determine any contributing factors to his death. Between those two deaths and the

Slipknot Bassist Paul Gray Dead At 38

Bassist’s body was found in an Urbandale, Iowa, hotel room Monday morning. By James Montgomery Slipknot’s Paul Gray Photo: Barry Brecheisen/WireImage Slipknot bassist Paul Gray — one of the group’s founding members — was found dead in an Iowa hotel room early Monday morning (May 24), according to reports. He was 38. The Des Moines Register reported that police were called to the TownePlace Suites hotel in Urbandale, Iowa, shortly before 11 a.m. after an employee discovered Gray’s body in a room. There was no evidence of foul play, police told the newspaper, but the investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. A toxicology test will also be done to determine any contributing factors to his death. A spokesperson for Slipknot’s label, Roadrunner Records, confirmed the report to MTV News. Gray, better known as #2 or “The Pig” because of the mask he wore while performing with Slipknot, helped form the group in 1995, along with current members Shawn “Clown” Crahan and Joey Jordison. Though the band’s lineup shifted over the years — with members departing or switching instruments — Gray’s position within the group remained constant: He was the only bass player Slipknot ever had. The group would release four albums, the last of which — 2008’s All Hope Is Gone — debuted at #1 on the Billboard albums chart. They spent most of the next year touring the world before taking an extended break at the end of 2009. Earlier this year, Gray announced that he would be using the time off to play with hard-riffing supergroup Hail!, featuring Tim “Ripper” Owens, Megadeth’s David Ellefson and Sepultura’s Andreas Kisser. In 2003, Gray was arrested on drug-possession charges after police discovered small amounts of marijuana, cocaine and two syringes in his vehicle following a traffic accident in Des Moines. Those charges were eventually dropped; Gray admitted he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident. Share your memories of Paul Gray and Slipknot in the comments below. British screenwriter Simon Monjack dead just after 5 months of his wife Brittany Murphy death.

Actress Murphy's Husband Found Dead Brittany Murphy's Husband Simon Monjack Cause Of Death Unknown Monday, May 24, 2010 LOS ANGELES — The husband of Brittany Murphy was found dead at his Los Angeles home late Sunday, five months after the Hollywood actress died, police said. Firefighters responding to an emergency call found British screenwriter Simon Monjack dead at the Hollywood Hills residence, police spokesman Sgt. Louie Lozano said. The preliminary cause of the 39-year-old Monjack's death is natural causes, he told The Associated Press. “We concluded there no signs of foul play or any criminal activity involved,” said Sgt. Alex Ortiz, another police spokesman. Ortiz said that the Los Angeles Coroner's Office was taking over the investigation because criminal activity had been ruled out, and would provide more details later on the death and circumstances surrounding it. Firefighters rushed to the home after receiving a call from a female occupant at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, but Ortiz said he didn't know who then name of the caller. At his wife's funeral in December, a visibly emotional Monjack talked about their relationship and called her his best friend and soul mate. The two married in 2007. He had said that they had been planning a family and contemplating a move to New York. Murphy, best known for her major roles in “Clueless,” ''Girl Interrupted,” and “8 Mile” in 2002, died Dec. 20, at age 32 after collapsing in her home. The Los Angeles County coroner's office concluded Murphy's death was accidental, but likely preventable. The coroner's report said that the medications found in her system were consistent with treatment of a cold or respiratory infection. Monjack and Murphy's mother had reported the actress was ill with flulike symptoms in the days before her death. An autopsy found no evidence that Murphy abused drugs. Investigators found numerous prescription medications in the actress' home. Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
