My name is Megan and this is my Bieber Experience! It started…

My name is Megan and this is my Bieber Experience!  It started with Justin Bieber’s tweet, “heading to Disney World for the Christmas parade this weekend!” I live in Orlando, so naturally as a Belieber, I started freaking out. My friend, Tatiana and I called Disney World probably 5 times and talked to the customer service to see if they had any info on him performing. Some people were very rude and short with us saying that they had no information on him even performing in the parade! Finally one lady gave us helpful information saying that the taping would be all day Saturday and we would have to buy full passes to Magic Kindom. Well, we didn’t really want to spend that much money, not knowing if we would meet him, or let alone see him perform! So we had an idea, to go walk around Downtown Disney (which is free) to see if any of his band members, or even him were to hang out there! We got there probably around 2 pm, and just walked hung out and walked around. It got later and both of our phones were dying, so we had to go sit in a restaurant that had wifi so Tatiana could check their tweets on her ipod. Finally, around 9:30, Scooter Braun tweeted “salsa dancing saturday night. we in here, #bongos.” We realized that was a restaurant on the other side of Downtown Disney! We ran all the way there, and waited outside. I circled the restaurant to see if there was a backdoor they would go out of, but there wasn’t, so I went back to the front to wait with Tatiana. When I got to the front I couldn’t find her… but then she appeared and told me Scooter had just left! We ran out to the parking lot and saw him and Carin walking to their car. Tatiana yelled Scooter and he turned around, but we freaked out and turned around and acted like it wasn’t us yelling his name, he got in his car and drove away. But then Tatiana told me she thought she saw Dan Kanter, Justin’s guitarist, so we went back to Bongos, and out front, was Dan Kanter, and Scrappy, sitting with a large group of people. We stood around, still not positive if we wanted to go up with the chance that it wasn’t them, and embarrass ourselves! But finally a small, woman with long brown hair walked up to them and they all hugged and laughed, and the woman resembled Justin’s mom, Pattie Mallette! I walked around them, acting like I was looking for someone, so I could get a full view of what the woman looked like. I saw her, and realized it WAS HER! I ran back to Tatiana, and we waited for Pattie and her friend to walk past us, when they past us. We went up to her and said, “Excuse me, Ms. Pattie, can we have a picture with you?” She said of course! I was like starstruck, and said, “Oh my gosh, you are really pretty!” She blushed and said “Thank you sweetie!”  She was so cute, and sweet, and know that she is doing a great job raising Justin! Next, we KNEW that is was Dan Kanter standing 20 feet away from us, but we didn’t want to go up and interrupt their conversation, so we just waited until they left to ask. So they started walking out, and we went up to Dan and asked him if we could take a picture with him! He said, Yeah! Sure! We took a few cause of the lighting was wierd, but then finally one came out! He asked us if we went to the show, but we said no! We didn’t know when Justin was performing! He said, oh, I’m sorry, but there’s always next time! And we said yes definitely! We waited a total of 10 hours at Downtown Disney that day, so I’m glad we met someone! And to Justin if you ever get to read this! please follow me on Twitter and make my dreams come true! -@meoshea See the original post here: My name is Megan and this is my Bieber Experience! It started…

Apple’s iOS 5 Update Now Available For iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch [TECH]

View original post here:

It’s IAmGWoods with a little tech news. Yes, I am #TeamApple. After 128 days, 7 Beta releases, and 1 gold master, it’s finally arrived. iOS 5 has just been released to everyone (or at least, everyone with a compatible iOS device). For those who hadn’t finagled their way into the developer Beta’s: 1) you’re a more patient human than I could ever hope to be, and 2) you’re in for a treat. This is the biggest update iOS has seen since the addition of the App Store, and it’s jam-packed full of good stuff. The iOS 5 update is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA), iPod touch 3rd/4th generation, and the iPad/iPad 2. It’ll also come preloaded on the 4S, of course, when that device launches later this week. It’s been a while since iOS 5 was announced to the world, so here’s a quick recap of some of the biggest features: iCloud: Apple’s cloud-based content/data syncing service. Backs up your content, photos, etc. in the cloud for safe keeping, provides one-click access to redownloading all the apps you’ve ever purchased, etc. iMessage: Apple’s free iOS-to-iOS messaging solution. SMS dies today. Notification Center: Apple has completely overhauled their old, antiquated alerts system. You now drag down from the top of the screen to see a drawer with all notifications. Newstand: Bundles all of your e-magazine/newspaper subscriptions into one smart folder Reminders: a new to-do/reminder system, complete with location-based alerts Twitter Integration Much improved Camera UX (You can access the camera with a double tap of the home button on the homescreen, and use the volume up key to take a photo) Crazy simple photo editing (Cropping, rotating, red-eye reduction) within the Photo app Over-the-air updates and PC-less device activation Downloading the update is pretty simple: just plug in, pop into iTunes, tap on your device’s name in the left-hand navigation, and click the “Update” button found on the page that pops up. If you’re not seeing the update, give it a few minutes — the servers are getting hammered pretty hard right now. Did Bottle Service Turn DJs Into Human iPods? [ORIGINAL]

Read more here:

Philly’s Qool DJ Marv has spent over a decade spinning in some of the hottest nightclubs in the world. In this exclusive to TheUrbandaily he shares why he thinks the extravagance of bottle service has hurt nightlife and the art of DJing. I have a strong opinion about bottle service and what it all stands for. Bottle service was the end of the model of the DJ as storyteller/ crowd motivator…person with the P.O.V. When it emerged it was the beginning of the end of that free spirited night life culture in Manhattan. You had parties where you heard different music, classic hip-hop and funk, all kinds. But the bottle service thing funneled it all into top 40, mash-ups and main stream rap. Before bottle service if you were presentable you could walk into a room. In the small bars and lounges you had the funky people, their whole point wasn’t to be inebriated from an entire bottle of vodka. You were there to be social, dance maybe have a couple of drinks, maybe one. Not to finish this entire bottle of vodka because you paid $250 for it. These are the middle-class, working people who just wanted to work off whatever they needed to work off with some music and some people. Bottle service says you can’t come in no more. All you have left is the people who used to be at the bar at those cool spots who felt like they were cool because they were [in the mix]. You had a corporate gig and you’re in this bar with a guy with dreadlocks dancing and you’re thinking “wow, I’m somewhere cool.” Those people drove the economies of those bars and venues. Those people that were glad to be there because it wasn’t work. They weren’t around “Biff” and “Wellington”, it was “Ahmad” and “Jose”.You had the mix of funky people and the people that drove the bar and it was all good. Then you had the geniuses that decided they were going to interpret the cabaret laws like “They can’t dance? Let’s charge them to sit.” It’s great for the capitalist but not for those paying a $200 entry fee. What’s left? The people who think they can buy their cool, credit card cool. But they’re not cool. They’re using their credit card to express their coolness. They start looking around and nobody here has flavor. Because everybody here is like me, they all PAID for it. “Hey DJ, play something we know.” A DJ in that scene [becomes] a human jukebox to people getting as drunk as they can possibly get. That kind of energy needs that kind of music and I’m not any of that. This place called Lotus opened up on 14th St and I got recommended to play there once by a guy that played there regularly on the weekend. And the manager comes to me during the middle of my set and he says “hey, you gotta pick it up. You gotta get it going.” I look around and see people dancing, etc. Then he says: “Did so-and-so recommend you for this gig? “Yes” “Well play like so-and-so…” They paid a lot at the time because they were charging people $200 plus to walk in the door. But I didn’t know how to be a robot, a human iPod. I didn’t know how to detach my whole point of view so that I could play street rap to 90% Caucasians scared to go to the streets. They’re looking at me like I should be their enabler, and it was weird. I couldn’t play act it, I couldn’t suffer through it. My ex-wife was disappointed that Lotus gig didn’t work out, I was too. I didn’t know if I’d made some mistake. But I knew that wasn’t the place to be. It ended up being a mutual decision. They said I was too mellow and I said “Thank you! I’m out of here.” RELATED POSTS: VIDEO: Diddy “Apologizes” To Vodka Rivals From Bathtub Qool DJ Marv Is HBO’s Secret Weapon [VIDEO]

Steve Jobs Made Computing An ‘Emotional Experience’

‘Geeks always felt empowered with new technology … but he was able to bring that experience to everyone,’ one tech blogger tells MTV News. By Gil Kaufman Steve Jobs Photo: Getty Images For tech bloggers and digital gearheads, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was Yoda, Gandalf, Dumbledore and the ultimate dungeon master rolled into one. The tech guru, who died at age 56 on Wednesday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, didn’t just make cool gadgets; he visioneered elegant, sculpture-like machines that made computing fun, exciting and effortless. Remember Steve Jobs’ many innovations by flipping through this photo gallery. “Steve Jobs was the first person who was able to turn computers and computing into an emotional experience for everyone,” said David Pescovitz, co-editor of BoingBoing and research director for the Institute for the Future. Pescovitz, who began a lifelong love affair with all things Apple more than 30 years ago in the basement of his Cincinnati home, where he would write rudimentary code on an Apple IIc, said the two crucial things Jobs did were to empower the individual with technology and create a new kind of technology experience. “Geeks always felt empowered with computers and new technology and it was always an emotional experience for them, but he was able to bring that experience to everyone.” Jobs, a notoriously detail-oriented taskmaster, demanded perfection from the legion of Apple employees who worked to create such landmark devices as the Macintosh computer, iPod, iPad and iPhone. Determined to break out of the bland, gray boxes produced by his rivals, Jobs brought that heart-touching experience to the masses by seamlessly weaving together technology, design elegance and engineering into devices Pescovitz said you wanted to “hold, touch and experience.” There were other MP3 players before the launch of the iPod in 2001, but John Gruber, an Apple enthusiast and founder of the technology blog Daring Fireball , said Jobs’ insight was making music personal again . “Your favorite music — all of it, with you everywhere you go,” he said of the devices that have become the standard-bearer for portable music storage. It’s easy to forget now thanks to the ubiquity of iTunes and the more than 10 billion songs sold since the store opened in 2003, but Eric Garland, CEO of leading online media metrix company Big Champagne , said for a time, the Apple boss was spurned by the major record labels. “It’s funny now to think of the notion of 99 cent downloads or paid downloads as an utterly noncontroversial one, but it’s hard to remember just how contrarian this play was eight or nine years ago,” Garland said. At a time when Garland was facing intense pressure from the record industry to stop seemingly “legitimizing and encouraging” music downloading (both legal and non) by measuring download numbers, he said Jobs seemed to be his only kindred spirit. “The most powerful people in the industry said, ‘This [downloading] has to stop and go away,’ and they intended to keep litigating it until people stopped downloading on the Internet.” While Garland admitted that he didn’t have the clout Jobs did in arguing that the genie was out of the bottle already, he recalls hearing from one executive after that music boss had been paid a personal visit by Jobs during the initial iTunes pitch. “He said to me, ‘Hey, you may be right,’ ” Garland said. ” ‘Steve Jobs was showing us this thing, and we think it’s the future of the business.’ And that was iTunes. Looking back, Jobs saw that this was not just the future of the music industry but, as has now been demonstrated, the future of all media and, in fact, connectivity among netizens.”Though the labels initially said no, Jobs persevered and Garland said that when people wonder how Apple was able to convince the labels to do a 180 on their position, the answer is simple. “He wouldn’t take no for an answer. It was the strength of Steve’s passion, persuasive gifts, persistence and personality that managed to change hearts and minds,” he said. President Obama, Nicki Minaj, Bill Gates and more remember Steve Jobs. Jobs’ unwillingness to compromise or settle until the design met his level of taste made the Apple CEO unique, but Gruber said it was his ability to give each of his new devices a unique purpose that really set Jobs apart from his peers. “Think about the dramatic shift from the personal computer being this beige thing on your desktop that you wanted to hide to something people treated as an objet d’art, that they admired like they would a finely designed chair or an Eames recliner,” Pescovitz added. “The reason the iPod did so well was because it was a product that told its own story. It beckoned to you to want to engage with it and interact with it. That came from the design and simplicity of it and the very idea that it would dramatically change your relationship to music.” Steve Jobs’ impact went way beyond computers. Check out his innovations in the film industry. And while the science fiction-like idea of having every song you ever owned in your pocket was forward-thinking enough, Pescovitz said a counterintuitive move Jobs made shortly after introducing the iPod made us rethink how we interact with our music all over again. “When he released the first iPod Shuffle [in 2005], people thought, ‘How could I use this without a screen?’ The point was to shuffle. You could fill it with several thousand songs and continually be surprised by the next song you heard.” The concept of putting your music on shuffle now is another part of our modern digital lexicon that Jobs almost singlehandedly invented, creating yet another new relationship between people and their music collections. And, with the recent addition of the iCloud to the Apple universe, Pescovitz said Jobs made the crucial leap that cybernauts have been waiting for since the Internet became a daily part of our lives. “The cloud plays against this notion that cyberspace is a place you go to through your laptop,” he said. “Cyberspace is overlay on top of existing reality. Media can and should be everywhere all the time. The kind of emotional experience that you’re able to achieve sitting at a desk or in front of your home stereo can now be achieved wherever you are. It drastically changes your relationship to media and the world.” Steve Jobs changed the world, but how did he change you? Tell us on Facebook. Related Photos The Steve Jobs Legacy

Can Listening To Music Improve Your Health?

If you are an avid music lover like myself, you most likely woke up this morning with a song floating around in your mind. That song followed you through your daily routines, rolling around in your head like the apple in your lunch bag, causing you to hum along and maybe even dance a bit while accomplishing your goals for the day. While not everyone has the same song that they consider “pump up music” in their life, the idea that music can improve your mood and be a catalyst for people in their daily lives is important to acknowledge. According to an article on NPR about a new book called The Power of Music , the author Elena Mannes “sees so much potential in music’s power to change the brain and affect the way it works.” From that perspective, music can be anything from a life-changer for stroke victims to a daily remedy for the average person suffering a bad day. The sounds of singing and instruments, no matter the genre, have the effect of medicine on an ailing brain in times of need. The tunes can range from slow jams to fast-paced anthems or classical pieces, but it ends up being the general melody and placement of lyrics that triggers memories and feelings associated with emotional growth. The knowledge of sounds, whether they be the natural rhythms of the heart or the pounding beat of an r&b song, can be detected as early as in the womb. Music is ingrained in our lives even prior to our birth, which gives strong validation to the idea that listening to the sounds around us is good for our health! 5 Ways To Find Inspiration From Within While this book is mostly associated with the affects of music therapy on patients with serious ailments, people with every day problems in love, family, or work can relate to music bringing uplift and restorative properties into their lives. After a long day caring for the children or sitting in an office cubicle, listening to a popular song from the radio or turning on your iPod to your favorite song can be a therapeutic and often leave more positive feelings in its wake. From personal experience, music has been both the optimistic friend that cheers you up and the “Debbie Downer” that helps me revel in my negative emotions. Both of these uses can be have a purposeful outcome in that when you need that emotional release, sad music can be a good coping mechanism, but when positivity is in order, there is always a crutch for that arm. It depends on what you are looking for from the music that you are listening to, as different moods bring varying degrees of needs. The improvement of health from putting on your headphones and feeling free from the strains of every day life is one of the strongest unifying properties of the listening experience, as people from all walks of life can experience the strong emotional value of music. Music is powerful in that with its melodic and healing properties, health can improve based on immersing oneself in your favorite song on your iPod or waking up to a song floating around in your head. The musical experience surpasses cultural or generational boundaries, therefore, it already has strong effects on the way people live. The instruments, lyrics, and voices of the performers are all very ingrained in human connection, therefore, bringing music therapy to light as having a strong effect on health is a powerful step in the right direction. As health becomes a main concern in the aging process, music can have the power to uplift, add passion, and center your life. HELP! My Boyfriend Is Making Me Fat!

Let’s face it- It’s easier to control your weight when you’re single and only planning meals for one. You eat on your own schedule and you’d rather stay in and throw together a salad than go to that new steak house down the street ALONE. While dating has its perks, it also has its pounds. I’ve noticed that when I’m dating someone, my sleeping and eating schedules totally change: I blame the few extra pounds on boyfriends . Usually when I wake up, I look forward to a great shuffle playlist on my iPod during a half hour of yoga and to catching up on the latest “Housewives” episode on the elliptical. But when I wake up to the comfiest cuddles ever , my morning priorities change. I’d rather stay in bed as late as possible even when I know I’ll end up needing to sprint to the subway and suffer the consequential blisters later. So I’m going to point my finger at boyfriends when it comes to giving you better things to do than tone your almost-abs in the morning. I’ll admit it – even when I’m single, I indulge in some loving time with Ben and Jerry’s (of course they have to be MEN). Ehhh, I’m also a huge supporter and avid consumer of dollar beers on Wednesdays. So maybe it’s not totally his fault, but the bottom line is, he will always find a reason for me to skip my boot camp class and get those delicious cupcakes from the bakery instead. Okay, okay, just because he’s ordering a double cheeseburger with curly fries and a large soda doesn’t mean that I need to copy and challenge him to an eating contest . But let’s be real – my garden salad with grilled chicken is not nearly as appetizing when it’s served next to his mouth-watering (and calorie-packed) meal. Of course I’ll end up stealing some fries and then order the biggest brownie dessert that they have to make up for my rabbit food meal. Somehow, his ravenous meal doesn’t weigh him down the next morning even though I’ll be on the phone with my trainer begging to reschedule for a sooner appointment. So maybe he isn’t physically shoving the extra calories down my throat. The point is, dating makes it really easy to turn your once healthy schedule into a “dude schedule” that involves pizza, the couch, the most comfortable shoulder pillow ever , and an episode of “Top Gear.” So even when the bro meals sound tempting, stay true to your body and your habits: eat dinner before the movies and avoid the oh-so-tempting buttery popcorn and candy, and when he’s doing his own thing. use that time to tone up your soon-to-be six-pack ! 7 Ways To Glam Up Your Walk Of Shame How To Make A Long Distance Relationship Work Let’s Text About Sex, Baby

After vehemently insisting that his Twitter account had been hacked when a lewd photo was sent to one of his female followers, Congressman Anthony Weiner has now come clean . During a press conference today he admitted that he did send the photos and that they were of him. While a politician admitting to cheating on his wife is hardly shocking we wanted to give Rep Weiner some parting songs to add to his iPod while he shops around for that apology ring. 5. “Caught Out There” By Kelis With a name like Weiner you really can’t afford to let pics like that get out there. 4. “Cheatin” by Little Brother “You was cheatin, caught you creepin…to the window to the walls skeet-skeetin…” 3. “Busted” by The Isley Brothers F/JS This is proof positive that old people should stay off of Twitter. 2. “Take A Bow” By Rihanna This man put on quite a performance and looks really dumb right now. 1. “The Whisper Song” by The Yin Yang Twinz “Wait’ll you see my ….” Pretty much says it all.
