Iran Declares State Of War

In a rare move, Iran has declared a state of war on its northwestern border, DEBKAfile's military and Iranian sources report. Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps men and equipment units are being massed in the Caspian Sea region against what Tehran claims are US and Israeli forces concentrated on army and air bases in Azerbaijan ready to strike Iran's nuclear facilities. The announcement came on Tuesday, June 22 from Brig.-Gen Mehdi Moini of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), commander of the forces tasked with “repelling” this American-Israeli offensive. He said: “The mobilization is due to the presence of American and Israeli forces on the western border,” adding, “Reinforcements are being dispatched to West Azerbaijan Province because some western countries are fueling ethnic conflicts to destabilize the situation in the region.” In the past, Iranian officials have spoken of US and Israel attacks in general terms. DEBKAfile's Iranian sources note that this is the first time that a specific location was mentioned and large reinforcements dispatched to give the threat substance. Other Iranian sources report that in the last few days, Israel has secretly transferred a large number of bomber jets to bases in Azerbaijan, via Georgia, and that American special forces are also concentrated in Azerbaijan in preparation for a strike. http://www.debka.com/article/8868/ added by: ibrake4rappers13

Sally Quinn: Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden Should Switch Jobs

Sally Quinn really wants to be helpful to both President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. However, the result of her laughable suggestion that Hillary and Vice-President Biden switch jobs is that it would only highlight the desperate political situation that the current administration has gotten itself into. Here is Sally trying to be helpful with her bizarre recommendation : Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden should switch jobs. Really. Really? Of course this job switch, a first in history for a vice president to switch places with a cabinet member, would be one more indication of Obama trying to pull himself out of the political abyss he finds himself in. That thought seems not to have entered Sally’s mind as she happily chirps on about this scenario which includes a big plug for Hillary: It makes sense for the Democrats, actually. Clinton has done an incredible job as secretary of state. First of all, she has worked harder than anyone should ever be expected to. She has managed to do the impossible: She is the ambassador of the United States to the world, maintaining her credibility while playing the bad guy to President Obama’s good guy, such as with North Korea, Iran and Israel, and still looking good. She has been a true team player. If Clinton is dissatisfied with her role, you would never know it. She has been loyal and supportive to the president and has maintained a good relationship with him and with others in the White House. If she is being left out of the policymaking, or being sent on trips to keep her out of town, she has not shown it. She is cheerful, thoughtful, serious and diligent. There are no horror stories about her coming out of the State Department. Most notable, though, is that Bill Clinton has not been the problem that so many anticipated. He has been supportive of her and of Obama, and he has stayed out of the limelight and been discreet about his own life.  Sally sounds more like she is promoting Hillary for sainthood than for the vice-presidency. In fact, Sally believes that the Hillary “magic” would be enough to ward off the “evil” Sarah Palin spell: She is tireless and relentless. Given the combination of votes that she and Obama got in the 2008 primary campaign, they would be a near-unbeatable team. Clinton also appeals to independents, but importantly, she would neutralize the effect of Sarah Palin. Whatever Palin came up with, Hillary could best her — and the Tea Party crowd as well. The Republicans would lose their “year of the woman” argument. And based on experience alone, Hillary is far more qualified to be president than any of the Republicans being considered today, including Mitt Romney, Bobby Jindal, Tim Pawlenty and Palin.  And what of Joe Biden? How would he handle what is essentially a demotion? According to Sally, he would happily swallow his pride because he secretly wants to become Secretary of State: True, Joe Biden has been rehabilitated. A recent profile in The Post portrayed him as a successful and intelligent man whose foreign policy advice is valued by the president. The gaffe-prone former chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee seems to have worked out the kinks. Clearly, he is aware that he is no longer an independent voice but, rather, a representative of the president. But Biden has no intention of running for president in six years. His passion is foreign policy. He would have been an ideal choice for secretary of state had he not been Obama’s running mate. And those who know him have said that secretary of state is his dream job.  So welcome to Sally’s World in which a simple job switch would cause the “evil” Republicans to melt away make everything right again for the liberal agenda. Sally saved her best laugh line about this job switch suggestion for the final sentence: Take it seriously.  Oh yes, Sally, we  certainly will… BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Meet the Conservative Intellectual Elite: Kathleen Parker, David Frum, Christopher Hitchens?

There’s one big problem with the presentation of “ The Party, In Exile ,” Pamela Paul’s snobby but interesting front-page Sunday Styles section piece on so-called conservatism in exile. As Karol Sheinin noted on her Twitter feed  — it doesn’t feature many actual conservatives. The caption under John Cuneo’s illustration made the disparity clear: “Insiders On The Outside: Members of the conservative intellectual elite at a party include, clockwise from left, David Frum, Michael Oren, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Christopher Hitchens, Laura Ingraham and Kathleen Parker.” Of those six names, only one (Laura Ingraham) would be unanimously waved in to a garden party strictly for “conservatives.” The prolific, peripatetic, atheist writer Christopher Hitchens, is a long-time socialist who allied with conservatives on the Iraq War and some other issues (Paul noted he is a member “of the disenchanted left”). Former Bush speechwriter David Frum’s main interest of late is lamenting the popularity of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker is an inconsistent conservative ally at best. Ayaan Hirsi Ali — in whose name the party was held — may qualify as conservative in some respects. Yet the brave feminist apostate from Islam, who currently works with the American Enterprise Institute, has only been in America for four years after being forced to flee Holland. Michael Oren is Israel’s ambassador to the U.S. Otherwise, the ambience at this intimate cocktail and buffet in honor of the Somalian-born activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali — a woman who faced death threats even before she wrote a film that led to the murder of its director, Theo van Gogh — was one of ease. Wearing a Michelle Obama-esque sleeveless emerald dress and sipping wine, Ms. Hirsi Ali, who has spent recent weeks traveling to Britain, Denmark and her former country of refuge, the Netherlands, while on tour for her new book “Nomad,” warmly met guests as they circled in admiration. “Nice to see you,” total strangers said upon introduction, as if fearing the failure to recognize someone possibly met on a previous occasion. Or perhaps in certain Washington circles people assume they already know everyone else. Either way, here at the stately Wesley Heights home of the former Bush speechwriter, David (“axis of evil”) Frum, and his wife, the writer Ms. Frum, nearly everyone did. Far from the typical New York book party, this was more a bunkering of the conservative intellectual elite, a group that domineered its way through the Bush years but is now sidelined, a somewhat baffled shadow of its former blustery self. Whither the conservative establishment in today’s bilious political landscape? Certainly the typical Tea Party denizen, with his “I Wanna Party Like It’s 1773” T-shirt and “You Lie!” trucker hat, would seem out of place on the Frums’ well-tended grounds, nibbling chicken skewers and mini-B.L.T.’s. In the presence of Ms. Hirsi Ali, at least, there was a sense of shared purpose. Paul addressed the controversies surrounding Frum, who “lost his salaried post at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, in March, after calling the passage of health care legislation the Republican party’s ‘Waterloo.'” Also present was The Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker, prom-girl pretty and winner of a Pulitzer this spring for “gracefully sharing the experiences and values that lead her to unpredictable conclusions,” including a rebuke of Sarah Palin. “Like all the best conservatives, I started off as a liberal,” she trilled. In a similar display of the intellectual right’s discomfort with Wasilla-brand populism, Ms. Frum mocked a speech by Ms. Palin in April on The Huffington Post. (“There was not a single memorable line, not a single new political idea, not a single proffered solution beyond the cliché.”) And lending a poignant immediacy to the rejiggered state of affairs was the Republican Senator Robert Bennett, ousted last month in the Utah primary for his votes on health care and Wall Street reform. A certain kind of nomad, all. If you can get past the knee-jerk “ick, Palin!” snobbery and mockery of the Tea Party movement, the latter half of Paul’s party piece contained some interesting anecdotes about Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Somali-born Islamist turned crusader for women and her shunning by her supposed liberal allies. Paul, to her credit, illuminated an issue Times Watch has discussed — the prickly response from the liberal media to Hirsi Ali’s crusade for women’s rights and against Islam: Not surprisingly, though she favors both gay and abortion rights, Ms. Hirsi Ali has alienated what might otherwise be fellow liberal travelers in her crusade against religious oppression. In The New Yorker, Pankaj Mishra dismissed Ms. Hirsi Ali’s “simple oppositions” and “growing familiarity with right-wing touchstones.” The Los Angeles Times called “Nomad,” which is dedicated to the former president of A.E.I., an “anti-Islamic screed” and “a tough jeremiad to read.” The historian Timothy Garton Ash and the Dutch-born academic Ian Buruma have both written dismissively of Ms. Hirsi Ali to the point that the N.Y.U. professor Paul Berman devoted much of his new book, “The Flight of the Intellectuals,” to mounting a defense. The Times review of Berman’s tome is here.

NBC Sees Gaza as ‘Prison Sentence Imposed by Israel,’ Ignores Reports of Food Abundance

Catching up on an item from last week on the Tuesday, June 8, NBC Nightly News, correspondent Tom Aspell portrayed the residents of Gaza as living through a life prison sentence imposed by Israel: “Israel’s blockade on Gaza isn’t just about preventing goods from getting in, it’s about preventing 1.5 million Palestinians from getting out. It sentences them to life inside a 140-square-mile prison.” Anchor Brian Williams set up the piece: “We are back now with a rare look inside a place 1.5 million people call home. The Israelis call it a hotbed of terrorism, but the people who live there say they are prisoners of poverty and misery.” As Aspell asserted that dire conditions exist for those in Gaza, he barely mentioned reports to the contrary , and placed the burden of blame squarely on Israel as, even though Egypt actively takes part in the blockade, the NBC correspondent only indirectly alluded to Egypt’s participation as he mentioned that tunnels that lead from Egypt to Gaza are illegal, and related that “some supplies” are “smuggled through hundreds of illegal tunnels under the border from Egypt.” But last February, FNC’s Mike Tobin devoted a report to the construction of underground walls by Egypt in an attempt to keep up its end of the blockade by closing off the tunnels: “With each elongated piece of steel Egyptians drive 20 yards into the ground down to the water table, they get closer to completing the iron curtain which will close Gaza’s smuggling tunnels. When construction began a month ago, Palestinians in the Gaza strip rioted killing an Egyptian soldier.” And while the Israel Foreign Ministry’s Web site recounts statistics on the amount of basic supplies that are transported into Gaza over land from Israel on a regular basis, Aspell only briefly relayed the Israeli contention that “Israel says there’s no humanitarian crisis,” and only vaguely related that “some food and medicine is allowed in,” adding that “the United Nations says conditions have never been worse.” While Aspell’s report left the impression that there is not enough food in Gaza, in the June 3 Washington Post article, “Getting What They Need to Live, But Not Thrive,” Janine Zacharia reports that food is plentiful in Gaza, and that people’s complaints have more to do with unemployment, limited travel abilities, and the inability to repair infrastructure: Gazans lament where they can’t go more than what they can’t buy. … Once an exporter of fruits and other goods, Gaza has been turned into a mini-welfare state with a broken economy where food and daily goods are plentiful, but where 80 percent of the population depends on charity. She continued: If you walk down Gaza City’s main thoroughfare – Salah al-Din Street – grocery stores are stocked wall-to-wall with everything from fresh Israeli yogurts and hummus to Cocoa Puffs smuggled in from Egypt. Pharmacies look as well-supplied as a typical Rite Aid in the United States. … Gazans readily admit they are not going hungry. But that, they say, is the wrong benchmark for assessing their quality of life. While Gaza has long been poor, the economy has completely crumbled over the past three years. Aspell’s claim that “Israel won’t let cement into Gaza,” is also contradicted by Israeli Foreign Ministry’s Web site : Building for the future: Infrastructure and economic aid Building materials While the import of cement and iron has been restricted into Gaza since these are used by the Hamas to cast rockets and bunkers, monitored imports of truckloads of cement, iron, and building supplies such as wood and windows are regularly coordinated with international parties. Already in the first quarter of 2010, 23 tons of iron and 25 tons of cement were transferred to the Gaza Strip. On 13 May 2010, Israel allowed approximately 39 tons of building material into Gaza to help rebuild a damaged hospital. The construction material for al Quds hospital was transferred after safeguards in place and French assurances ensured that the construction material would not be diverted elsewhere. On 24 May 2010 Israel opened the Kerem Shalom crossing to 97 trucks loaded with aid and goods, including six trucks holding 250 tons of cement and one truck loaded with five tons of iron for projects executed and operated by UNRWA. Below is a complete transcript of the relevant story from the Tuesday, June 8, NBC Nightly News: BRIAN WILLIAMS: We are back now with a rare look inside a place 1.5 million people call home. The Israelis call it a hotbed of terrorism, but the people who live there say they are prisoners of poverty and misery. It’s the Gaza Strip, and it’s once again gotten the world’s attention after that raid on a ship trying to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza to deliver what many say was food and basic supplies. The Israelis say some of those supplies could have been used as weapons. Israel tonight is still saying no to a UN investigation into the raid, but tonight our own Tom Aspell has a report from behind the blockade. TOM ASPELL: This is what you see when you cross the border from Israel into Gaza, children desperately scrambling for pebbles, pebbles to be ground into cement. Israel won’t let cement into Gaza. It says the cement would be used for tunnels to smuggle weapons. So thousands of homes destroyed in the 2009 offensive can’t be rebuilt. Some supplies, like groceries and even animals, are smuggled through hundreds of illegal tunnels under the border from Egypt. Israel says there’s no humanitarian crisis. Some food and medicine is allowed in, but the United Nations says conditions have never been worse. CHRISTOPHER GUNNESS, UNRWA SPOKESMAN: Eighty percent aid dependency, 44 percent unemployment. Deep poverty tripling in the last year. ASPELL: Deep poverty and also despair. Eighty percent of Gazans, like Rushti Abotawela, get their food from the UN. Born deaf, he has no chance of getting a job here. He and his family, two of them also deaf, live on $70 a month from the Palestinian government. Israel’s blockade on Gaza isn’t just about preventing goods from getting in, it’s about preventing 1.5 million Palestinians from getting out. It sentences them to life inside a 140-square-mile prison. Life here is a struggle from birth. In Gaza’s Schiffer Hospital, the best around, there isn’t enough special formula for premature babies, not even enough incubators. So this baby is only one hour old, but there’s no place for him? UNIDENTIFIED MAN #1: Yeah. (LOOKS TO ANOTHER MAN AND SAYS SOMETHING UNCLEAR) UNIDENTIFIED MALE VOICE: No place. UNIDENTIFIED MAN #1: No place. ASPELL: Fifty percent of Gazans are children under 15. Mental health experts say 95 percent of all children in Gaza suffer from trauma and stress. DR. AHMED ABU TAWAHEENA, GAZA MENTAL HEALTH COMMUNITY DIRECTOR: Most important one of them is their violent behavior, aggressive behavior among school students, for example. ASPELL: Eight-year-old Mahmud Kalil has turned to music to erase memories of bombs and missiles during the 2009 offensive when he spent a month hiding in a basement. Mahmud had extreme mood swings, either laughing or crying constantly. His mother, Anwan, says music therapy now keeps him calm. Music may also be his escape. Given the chance, Mahmud says he’d like to pack up his instrument and leave here forever. Tom Aspell, NBC News, Gaza.

Bachmann: Obama Oil Spill Response ‘Dereliction of Leadership’; Media Lowered President’s ‘Level of Accountability’

Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann isn’t exactly known for her reticence on the news of the day. And when it comes to the White House’s handling of the BP oil spill disaster, Bachmann had some harsh words for President Barack Obama. Speaking at the June 25 Bloggers Briefing at the Heritage Foundation , Bachmann pointed out how she thought it was peculiar that all the comments coming out of the White House were geared toward the president specifically and not to the victims of this crisis. “The thing that we’re all focusing on today will be the president’s remarks that he’ll be giving tonight and it looks like an absolute opportunism moment for the president to try and advance the next stage of his legislative agenda,” Bachmann said. “And I think the curious feature in all of this has been: this is a major disaster and yet it seems like every response that has been coming out of the White House has been about the president rather than about the disaster. That is odd to me. That seems extremely odd.” The Minnesota Republican said the hapless reaction to the oil spill event and the administration’s mishandling of the Nashville flood in April that went largely ignored by the President and the media raised questions about the administration’s leadership. “It seems like a dereliction of leadership, especially when you consider what happened in Nashville was also a disaster – an unmitigated disaster for the people down in Nashville,” she said. “Not only has the president not yet visited to highlight the devastation that has happened to businesses and people’s lives there, but he also hasn’t even mentioned Nashville as a disaster. That’s interesting to me, how the White House seems to be picking and choosing between disasters – for whatever reason and I can’t speculate what that reason may be, but for some reason Nashville didn’t make the cut for a presidential visit or a presidential mention.” When asked, Bachmann didn’t sound too hopeful that Congress would exercise its oversight role and hold hearing looking into what she suggested was the federal government’s mishandling of the oil spill response efforts. “I am sure Nancy Pelosi will get on that tomorrow morning and Harry Reid,” she said, to laughter. She characterized the ongoing Gulf disaster as a missed opportunity for the president to untie the country, something that “candidate Obama” seemingly could have done, as opposed to President Obama. “I give the President a lot of credit as candidate Obama,” she continued. “He really did have kind of a once-in-a-generation opportunity to be that transformational president, which I wish he could have been. But unfortunately the last 18 months I think we have seen the ground shake underneath our country because of a lot of policy decisions he’s made but also from a stylistic point of view – the way that he has handled various crises in his presidency – and I don’t think that has engendered confidence.” She also mentioned the White House’s handling of  last month’s flotilla disaster, and she took a shot at the media for not holding Obama as accountable as they held the Bush administration for similar responses. “Look at the blockade situation with Turkey and with Israel,” Bachmann said. “All the wrong signals were sent out of that event in my opinion. And it’s made Israel even more vulnerable than they were before. So for that and a lot of other reasons, I think we really need to give – the White House needs to be held at least to the same level of accountability the previous administration was held to. And I don’t see that media, present company excluded, has necessarily done that.”

Rosie O’Donnell: Helen Thomas Wasn’t Telling Jews ‘Go Back to the Ovens,’ So ‘Sit and Spin,’ Helen-Haters

On her XM/Sirius satellite radio show on Wednesday, Rosie O’Donnell defended the outrageous comments of Helen Thomas telling Jews to “get the hell out of Palestine” and go “home” to Germany and Poland. The Radio Equalizer blog has audio where O’Donnell seemed to acknowledge Richard Cohen’s Washington Post column recalling that Jews who did return home after World War II were killed by the thousands. She added, “But now I think in the year 2010, you know, what she was saying was not ‘go back to the ovens ”…What she was saying was, you know, the homeland was originally Palestinians, is what she was saying, and it’s now occupied by Israel and that Palestinians should be afforded their civil and human rights.” O’Donnell thought comparing it to telling blacks to go back to Africa didn’t work because “black people are not occupying a country.” She was angrier on Thursday’s show: Fifty years as a journalist, and it comes down to some guy stickin’ a camera in her face when she was by herself, crossin’ the street with her 89-year-old lipstick on, and her whole life is over. I’m sorry, I don’t buy the ‘Helen Thomas sucks’ parade. I’m not buyin’ a ticket.” …I feel like a Jew…I’ve been to Israel…My son had a bris, performed by a mohel…but [they can] still accuse me of anti-Semitism if I feel that Helen Thomas shouldn’t be hung up by her ankles at 89 years old… Fifty years…of actually being the Fourth Estate when there was one, of standing up and asking questions when women weren’t even allowed in the room, to how many administrations, and it all comes down to ‘let’s throw Helen Thomas under the train’? Sit and spin, that’s what I [say] to everyone. I’m so mad. That’s a rather crude middle-finger saying for radio. Also on Thursday’s show, O’Donnell responded to conservative bloggers taking note of her comments about nationalizing BP and she didn’t care whether you call it socialism or communism: I’d just like to say for the record that I don’t really believe in communism for the United States, and I don’t really feel we should be a communist nation, nor do I think socialism would really work in the United States. However, I do believe the government should seize BP and all of its assets, and use…the money to help all the people that they’re killing from this horrific act of gross negligence, criminal behavior. I think they should enforce the RICO statutes…Can you imagine after 9/11 if we said, ‘OK, we’re gonna let the terrorists clean up the 9/11 site’?…They’re the ones who did it. They’re environmental terrorists. O’Donnell can’t seem to tell the difference between corporate neglect and incompetence in BP’s case and the maliciously plotted murder of 3,000 on 9/11. Certainly, the oil rig explosion and skill cost human lives, and a lot more lives of creatures on and under the sea. But the word “terrorism” implies acts committed intentionally to terrify, not accidents. Or is O’Donnell suggesting BP did all of this on purpose? She also responded emotionally at criticism from conservative talk radio, without ever identifying which host had unfairly maligned her: “One of those idiot shows, like, whatever, Sean Beck Hannity Fred Phelps…they show a picture of me like a freakin’ Macy’s balloon: ‘Look at fat, gay Rosie O’Donnell…She’s a communist.’” She yelled: “Eat me! All of you!”

Maher: Media ‘Way Too Stupid’ to Understand Israel/Palestine Conflict, So They Side with the Palestinians

It wasn’t us who said this. Instead, it’s one of their own – an outspoken openly liberal talk show with a cynical view of the mainstream media. On the June 11 Web portion of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” called “Overtime,” Newsweek editor Jon Meacham offered the argument there is not a pro-Israel bias in the media, which is often alleged. “The idea that there is a pro-Israeli bias in the broad media – whatever ‘the media’ means at this point, I strongly disagree with,” Meacham said. “I think if anything you run into a very strong feeling on the Palestinian side.” That led another panelist on Maher’s show, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow to protest by asking who is pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel in politics or media. “Who speaks out publicly in a pro-Palestinian, anti-Israeli way in mainstream American politics, or media?” Maddow asked. Aside from the obvious answer – Helen Thomas, the media have attacked Israel time and time and time again. (One might suggest Maddow spend some time reading NewsBusters if she is looking for answers.) However, that prompted Maher to say the media are anti-Israel, pro-Palestine. And he offered a reason why. [Emphasis added] “I think most of them do because I think the media, to take up your point, mostly – is way too stupid to understand the issues ,” Maher said. “So what they do is they go toward, ‘Oh, who’s a victim?’ And yes, their situation in Gaza is tragic. But partly it is tragic of their own making.”

Marijuana Bombs Dropped on Tel-Aviv and Gaza (in Peace-Making Attempt) : Veterans Today

Global Peacemaking Group Gets Holy Land Fighters High TMZ says Netanyahu and Abbas Caught Stoned at Club Yasir Arafat in Ramallah In a final desperate humanitarian attempt to resolve the modern long term hate and violence that infects the holy land peoples, it has been reported that 2 days ago a flotilla of C-130s were sent from a secret air base in Oaksterdam California loaded up with “Marijuana Bombs” These baggies of “weed” bunched up into missile sized lots were dropped over the holy land peoples in a clandestine night time mission by an organization calling itself “The Peoples Peacemaker Project” Speaking from their underground lair in an undisclosed location where the drops were coordinated, Director of Strategic Peacemaking General Vincent Boombots said “After many failed attempts by the military industrial complex and a global elite force posing as peacemakers, we, the people, have decided to put our own peace force together and take unilateral action for peace”. Boombots goes on to say that “weed was the only solution! Weed! We looked at alcohol but have you ever been to a heavy metal concert where everyone was liquored up? Fights everywhere! Not a solution! We also looked at opium…I mean since the US has so much of it on sale with its increased cultivation and production in Afghanistan, that this drug would be an unending source for mind control. But peace? No way! But weed! Hey have you ever been to reggae concert? Yeah everyone, black, white, green, whatever passes that peacemaker stick around and next thing you know it’s love, peace and harmony for all mankind mon!”. Yesterday reports from Tel-Aviv say that Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, a well known racist hater of arab peoples smoked a doobie with his in-house political rival and fellow hater of Arabs, Tzipi Livni. Observers report hugs, kisses and a little Hava-Na-Gila dancing with a late night phone call made to Domino’s pizza; something about a pepperoni! On the other side, Ismail Haniyeh, the leader and death to Israel hater of Hammas was seen smoking a mad bong and hugging Mahmoud Abbas, leader of the Palestinian authority in the West Bank. Together they this issued this joint statement; Hookah Netanyahu ArafatHammas and Palestinian Authority Joint Statement to the World “Today, we hereby declare that Israeli solidier Gilad Shilat held captive in Gaza for years is to be released immediately to his family in Israel. We sincerely apologize to his family and especially to his mother for our actions. We’ve met with Gilad and smoked a bowl with him. Gilad said it’s all good and that he’s cool with it. In fact, he invited us to his house in Israel to smoke a bowl with his peeps. We are going next Saturday for some potato pancakes and a bagel with lox”. On the streets, as of this morning, the peoples of Israel and Palestine were seen arm in arm smoking massive hookahs filled with Maui Wowie and some Red Hair Skunk screaming together in unison “Death Cab for Cutie! Death Cab for Cutie!” Apparently the crowd was still unable to remove their brainwashed “calls for death” so they merely got too high and called for an indie folk band from Seattle instead. Businesses in the holy lands report that pizza, chicken wings, and hummous sales have skyrocketed as Israeli’s and Palestinians crash the restaurants and cafes looking for scoobie snacks. Together, dancing in the streets Israelis’and Palestinians protested the blatant overt use of bar-b-que sauce on their chicken wings demanding the governments sponsor Tahini as the official chicken wing sauce. On the political scene, last night, Benjamin Netanyahu held a party at his home in Tel-Aviv inviting all the members of the Knesset, Palestinian Authority, Hammas, and Hezbollah for some music, pizza, and frolic. Reporters who crashed the party saw Bibi toking with that Hezbollah guy and they were like “Dood, I am so sorry for throwing those missiles at Haifa” and Bibi was like “Dood, no worries, I mean what was I thinking invading Lebanon and blowing up all that stuff. Holy crap dood, we totally suck!”. As the band played some killer party dance beats, there were chants by a dancing guy calling himself Grand Master B Obama. This dancing hipster crashed the party. He was overheard saying to “Bibi, I am appointing you pledge representative to the social committee” while Bibi said “Gee Grand Master B, thanks! What do I have to do?” to which Grand Master B retorted “It means you have to drive us to the Falafel King” As of late, all the peoples of the holy land, Jews, Christians, and Muslims were seen turning in their guns and suicide detonators and asking that they be melted down and made into totally bitchen water bongs with lots of cool psychedelic colors. Mission Accomplished! * This is satire. The events above did NOT really happen although based on past attempts by peacemakers, it’s probably not a bad idea! added by: Monkey_Films

Bafana Beat Guatemala 5-0 in friendly match

It was a night of records in Polokwane on Monday as Bafana Bafana skipper Aaron Mokoena celebrated winning his 100th international cap by leading his side to a record 5-0 win over Guatemala in a World Cup warm-up. The result will be a huge confidence boost for the team as goals from Katlego Mphela (two penalties), Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Surprise Moriri and Bernard Parker stunned the Central Americans. Bafana were awarded a terrible penalty decision by referee Ibrahim Chaibou from Niger, who adjudged Siphiwe Tshabalala’s long-range effort to have struck Guatemalan defender Gustavo Cabrera on the arm. Whether it did or not is up for debate, but what’s not is that the incident happened a yard outside the area, and at the very most should have been a free kick. Mphela did not waste the gift and notched his 13th goal in Bafana colours, snatching the ball out of the hands of Teko Modise and converting from the spot. Mphela and Gonzalo Romero traded ambitious long-range free kicks, before Letsholonyane scored his maiden international goal. Brilliant work from Lucas Thwala down the left saw him reach the byline and his chip into the box fell perfectly for Letsholonyane , who volleyed into an empty net with visiting goalkeeper David Guerra out of position. Tshabalala shot wide from just outside the area, while Mphela dallied on a shot and saw his effort deflected wide. If he had pulled the trigger quicker, he might have scored. Bafana did extend their lead three minutes into the second half when substitute Moriri picked up the loose ball just outside the six-yard box from Mphela’s driving run and cross and tapped home with the Guatemalan defence at sixes and sevens. The referee decided to level the score on a the poor penalty award count when he awarded the visitors a soft spot-kick after adjudging Thwala to have hand-balled, when the ball looked to have struck his chest. But Moeneeb Josephs saved Guillermo Ramirez’s poor effort and the score remained 3-0 to the home side. Steven Pienaar should have got a spot-kick minutes later when he was clattered in the area, but strangely this time the referee said no, but shortly afterwards he again pinned Cabrera for hand-ball in the box from Kagisho Dikgacoi’s shot. This award looked correct and Mphela coolly slotted home from the spot and Bafana matched their best-ever result in international football. Pienaar’s brilliant free-kick from 35-yards with 20 minutes left slammed against the post with Guatemalan substitute goalkeeper David Guerra beaten, denying him a spectacular goal. But that spectacular goal came from Parker , who picked up the ball on the sideline, beat two defenders and hot a shot from 25-yards across the goalkeeper and into the top corner.
