Lady Gaga Releases Country Version Of ‘Born This Way’

New take on hit song, dubbed ‘The Country Road Version,’ features slide guitar, mandolin and harmonica. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images You can take all those Madonna comparisons and throw them out the window of your Ford F-150 truck, because on Thursday night Lady Gaga released a whole new version of her global smash “Born This Way” that featured a totally unexpected spin. After tweeting to her Little Monsters that she was preparing to release “Born This Way (The Country Road Version),” Mother Monster dropped the tune at midnight PT on Friday (March 25) via her Twitter account … and it did not disappoint. The new rendition of the hit opens with ominous, swirling guitars and then introduces a fuzzed-out slide guitar and harmonica wheeze, with all of the thumping disco beats replaced by restrained brush drumming and a more laid-back vibe. Once it kicks into the first chorus, the song continues to take its time, choogling along on live-sounding, laconic drumming and lots of soulful harmonica. Just before the three-minute mark, Gaga mixes in some new lyrics, drawling, “If I wanna make it country, baby, then it’s OK, cuz I was born, I was born, I was born this way,” over picked mandolin. “From London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave,” she adds, as the song breaks into full-on country-rock mode reminiscent of late-period Bon Jovi in the final minute. Meanwhile, the original, non-boot-scooting version of “BTW” notched its sixth week in a row at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, which is what Gaga said prompted her to drop the surprise remake on her fans. Earlier this week, Gaga revealed that she’s almost done recording her Born This Way album , telling fans via Twitter, “In Nebraska, finishing up record today … I’m so proud of the album: I keep dancing+drinking: metal/techno rock journey of a woman on the run.” Plans are now being worked up for the tour in support of Born This Way (due out May 23) and Gaga’s first swing at directing, a collaboration with her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, on the video for the album’s upcoming second single, “Judas.” What do you think of Gaga’s twanged-up version of “Born This Way”? Emily Browning Talks Auditioning For ‘Hunger Games’

‘Sucker Punch’ star also opens up about declining ‘Twilight’ audition. By Terri Schwartz Emily Browning Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images The role might have recently gone to Jennifer Lawrence , but there was a point in time when “Sucker Punch” star Emily Browning might have played District 12 champion Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming Lionsgate adaptation of “The Hunger Games.” “I read for [‘Hunger Games’] a couple of times, but I’ve never read the book, to be honest — which I know is terrible of me,” Browning said in an interview with the Playlist . “I was nervous about it.” Despite the fact Browning started out her acting career as one of the leads in an adaptation of a popular children’s series, it was that experience that turned her off from moving on to starring in the young-adult genre. She admitted that there was a period of time between when she filmed 2004’s “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” and when she agreed to come onboard Friday’s “Sucker Punch” that she seriously considered quitting acting altogether. It was during that time that she found out “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer said she would be the perfect Bella Swan for the upcoming adaptation of the novel, but Browning wasn’t ready to commit to a franchise. “I was just exhausted, and I was like, ‘I’m sorry, but I just can’t sign onto a trilogy right now,’ ” Browning told MTV News in 2009, after she finished “The Uninvited.” “To be honest, if I had gone on to do the film straight after ‘The Uninvited,’ I would not have been a good Bella . and I’m hoping people realize that now.” But it was the fact that she was vilified for reportedly turning down the “Twilight” role that caused Browning to remain so hush-hush about trying out for “Hunger Games.” “It’s always hard for me to talk about these kinds of things, because I know there was a big deal with ‘Twilight’ and my involvement with people wanting me to do ‘Twilight,’ so I’m always like, ‘Oh, people love this book so much, I don’t want to get involved, I don’t want to talk about it!’ ” Browning explained. “I read for [‘Hunger Games’] a couple of times, but I think every single girl in Hollywood read for it a couple of times, to be honest.” Would you have liked to see Emily Browning play Katniss Everdeen or Bella Swan? Jason Bateman Calls ‘Arrested Development’ Movie Plot ‘Incredible’

‘It’s everything you would want it to be and more,’ actor tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jason Bateman Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Despite David Cross’ hilariously pessimistic outlook on the possibility of an “Arrested Development” movie, exec producer Ron Howard wasn’t kidding when he told MTV News that an adaptation of the TV series is “a real priority” for creator Mitch Hurwitz. How do we know? Well, aside from just really, really hoping he wasn’t kidding, Jason Bateman recently tossed us some info that indicates Hurwitz is very much plowing forward with a script — five years after the show’s cancellation. “For the very first time, [Hurwitz] sat me down last week to talk about what he’s got and where he’s going and what do I think,” Bateman told us while promoting his upcoming comedy “Paul.” “As a fan of the show, I was vibrating with excitement that he was pulling me behind the curtain.” Mind you, Bateman still hasn’t seen a single page of a script, but the mere fact that he had a meeting about the project was enough to encourage the actor that, at long last, an “Arrested” movie will actually become a reality. “I can confirm what his update was, which was that he is very deep into the work on it,” Bateman said. “The odds of him getting it done before the end of the year, as he says he wants to, are good.” So, um, what did Hurwitz actually dish about the story line? Bateman didn’t let any details slip out other than to say the concept is “incredible.” “It’s everything you would want it to be and more,” he added. “I really hope he finishes soon so we have a shot at doing it before the end of the year.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Paul.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Justin Bieber tweets ‘I miss you’ to girlfriend Selena Gomez – Los Angeles Times (blog)

Justin Bieber misses his girlfriend, Selena Gomez, the pop star tweeted Sunday. Call it a public display of affection for the digital age. Gomez, the Disney darling who stepped out with the Biebs recently at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, is in Hidalgo, Texas, while Bieber is on tour in Europe. “I miss all of y’all,” she tweeted back. So, who are these “y’all”? Well, Bieber didn’t single out Gomez in his tweets. He sent “I miss you” messages to four other friends, Ryan Butler, Shaz Comers, Scooter Braun and Wilson Warren. Still feeling special there, Selena? He then went tweet-happy and posted several lines from rapper Drake’s music. The hashtag “#drakelines” began trending soon after, proving once again that Justin Bieber and his fans have a terrifying amount of influence on Twitter. Usher’s Canadian-bred mentee, who made headlines for cutting his signature hair and selling the locks on EBay for charity, also decided to make another ‘do-related decision. “Im not shaving for a month so you all can see my mustache… im pumped,” he wrote on the micro-blogging site. So we have to ask: How much do teen-idol facial-hair clippings go for on EBay these days? Robert Downey Jr. Talks Jon Favreau’s Departure From ‘Iron Man 3’

Downey says shooting the next ‘Iron Man’ installment without the director will be ‘weird.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Downey Jr. Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images After director Jon Favreau departed the “Iron Man” franchise but before Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) became the front-runner to helm the third installment of the superhero-movie series, MTV News sat down with Robert Downey Jr. and asked the actor how it would feel to play Tony Stark without Favreau behind the camera. “It is weird. I think there’s always a closure to everything,” he said, adding, “This will all come to an end one day, and I think the thing is to just really enjoy it while you have it.” No bad blood exists between the two men and, as Downey told us, he remains friendly with Favreau and is looking forward to his next directorial effort. “He’s up to great stuff with ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ coming up,” the actor said. “I just spoke with him a few weeks ago and we were quite friendly.” Before Downey begins “Iron Man 3,” which isn’t due in theaters until May 2013, he’ll be joining the highly anticipated superhero all-star flick, “The Avengers.” The picture will bring Downey’s metal-suited Stark together with the likes of Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. “The Avengers” will begin filming later this year, after Downey finishes work on “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” which he was shooting when we caught up with him in January. Ever the jokester, Downey said he won’t have to do much preparation to make “Avengers” a winner. “You grow a moustache and maybe do something with the hair. That’s how easy it is,” he laughed. “It’s going to be great, once I tell them what to do.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Quentin Tarantino’s Spaghetti Western: What We Know So Far

Details are beginning to fall in place for director’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’ follow-up. By Eric Ditzian Quentin Tarantino Photo: Charles Eshelman/ FilmMagic For years, Quentin Tarantino has been talking about the kooky idea of making a spaghetti western-esque film that explores American slavery. Now multiple reports suggest he might be moving forward with a project in a similar vein. Nothing’s confirmed yet, of course, but all this chatter does seem to indicate that Tarantino’s next production following the Oscar-winning, $300 million-grossing success of 2009’s “Inglourious Basterds” will, in fact, be a spaghetti western. There have been, until now, numerous projects the filmmaker was said to be considering , though he has long stated a desire to explore the western genre. “I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time,” Tarantino told us late in ’09 of the slavery pic. “That’s definitely in the garden, for lack of a better metaphor. That is definitely one of my roses.” So what do we know so far? Back in 2007, Tarantino spoke at length to Britain’s Telegraph about that project, calling it the Southern equivalent of a western. “I want to do movies that deal with America’s horrible past with slavery and stuff but do them like spaghetti westerns, not like big issue movies,” he said. “I want to do them like they’re genre films, but they deal with everything that America has never dealt with because it’s ashamed of it, and other countries don’t really deal with because they don’t feel they have the right to.” Tarantino, instead, chose to explore an alt-history take on World War II with “Basterds.” When MTV News caught up with him late last year, he confessed that he still hadn’t committed to his next project, though he did say that rumors of taking on an adaptation of “The Shadow” were untrue. Only in recent days has talk of a spaghetti western, devoid of a connection to slavery, picked up steam. Deadline reported that Tarantino said he has completed the script for the new movie and that the writing, unlike his work on “Basterds” and “Kill Bill,” came together quite quickly. Meanwhile, the actor Franco Nero gave an Italian-language interview at the Los Angeles Italia festival in which he said that talent has already been coalescing around the project, including himself, Keith Carradine and Treat Williams. “It’s a movie that contains humor, lots of action, but also a great plot,” Nero said. Ain’t It Cool News picked up on the news and added some intriguing details — most intriguingly that Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar for his turn as a cold-blooded Nazi in “Basterds,” would also star in the flick. According to AICN, the script is not based on any existing material but is an original script and will potentially begin production in Spain and Italy later this year. Lady Gaga ‘Loves’ ‘Born This Way’ Video, Laurieann Gibson Says

‘She’s very proud of it,’ Gaga’s creative director reveals to MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Fans have weighed in on Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” video, but how does Mother Monster herself feel about her latest entry into the world of music videos? The video’s creative director and Gaga’s choreographer, Laurieann Gibson, stopped by MTV News on Monday, the same day the Nick Knight-directed clip dropped, and she opened up about Gaga’s reaction to seeing the trippy “Born This Way” . “She loves it! She loves it so much and she’s so happy,” Gibson told us. “She loves it. She watches it all the time. Every time I walk in the dressing room [she says], ‘Ah! Look!’ She’s very proud of it.” Gibson shares that excitement and she said she’s pleased that Gaga and her team are spreading their message of love and acceptance. “I’m happy for her because she’s so fearless,” Gibson explained. “And she works so hard and, for me, those types of artists don’t come around that often.” Those sentiments were mirrored by one of Gaga’s producers, Fernando Garibay , who worked on many of the songs on the upcoming Born This Way. Garibay told us he thinks the video reflects the song’s feel-good message. “Well, I’ve seen pieces. We were privy to watching her make the video and stuff, and as we were watching her do the choreography and everything, we were just blown away, of course,” he said. “It’s amazing. Her talent, I mean, she’s so talented, but in combining the imagery, the dance and how it’s expressed with the song is truly amazing. … I’m still blown away by it. I saw it this morning and I was like, ‘Wow.’ ” What do you think of “Born This Way”? Let us know in the comments!
