Self-proclaimed Human Barbie Valeria Lukyanova was recently put down by Human Ken, Justin Jedlica, who said there’s nothing special about her. Without makeup, he insists, she’s plain Jane. Justin Jedlica , he proudly notes, actually underwent tons of surgery to become a perfect specimen. Well, that’s just bizarre by any measure. In any case, Valeria Lukyanova has now posted the unthinkable – a makeup-free selfie – for her legion of fans. Would you hit it? You might actually have to think about that now. The irony of this image? Most pictures of celebrities without makeup are meant to show us that stars are just like us, and that flaws are fabulous. In the case of Valeria Lukyanova, it’s an apparent attempt to prove that even without makeup, she’s more Human Barbie-like than anyone else alive. Clearly, she’s had a lot of work done over the years to resemble everyone’s favorite plastic girl-doll, or at least Valeria’s definition of idealized beauty. An ideal that does not include race-mixing , according to HB. Her extremely small waist, her wide eyes, her hilariously voluptuous curves that put make even Kim Kardashian to shame … it’s a lot to take in, visually. It gives you a rare glimpse of Valeria Lukyanova , though, not just Human Barbie. This, more than any other picture of her, makes her look human. At least partially so. There are hints of it, albeit barely. Her appearance is shocking to behold, by any measure, but a lot less so than when she really cakes it on (which Jedlica says she does, accurately). Game of Thrones is about to meet The Hunger Games. Gwendoline Christie, the 6’3” actress best known for portraying Brienne of Tarth on the HBO drama, has been cast in Mockingjay – Part 2 as Commander Lyme, taking over in the role for Lily Rabe, who had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. Lyme is a past Victor and one of the leaders of District 13; she’s a native of District 2. The final two installments of this Jennifer Lawrence -anchored franchise are both shooting simultaneously at the moment in Atlanta. Lionsgate will release Mockingjay – Part 1 on November 21 with Mockingjay – Part 2 a year later. Christie, meanwhile, will be seen this Sunday on the Game of Thrones Season 4 premiere. Certainly a good deal of the credit for these transformations goes to the HBO series’ costume and make-up departments (Who knew Hodor had facial tattoos?!), but it’s a testament to the GOT cast’s acting talent that such regular-looking folks are able to believably inhabit characters like shrewd dwarf Tyrion Lannister or turncoat turned torture victim Theon Greyjoy. Some of these actors reap serious benefits from modern-day garb and hair care products (Ygritte sure cleans up nice!), while others rock the sword-and-tunic look so well it’s pretty much impossible to improve upon. We’re lookin’ at you, Emilia Clarke Daenerys Targaryen! If the gallery above teaches us anything, it’s that an insane amount of thought goes into every detail of the Game of Thrones production design. Being reminded of all that intricate attention to detail has got us looking forward to season four more than ever. All it took was one night with Lady Gaga to drive David Letterman away. We kid, but the day after Gaga sang for the first time on The Late Show, Letterman announced his retirement as a talk show host. The comedian told his studio audience at today’s taping of his decision, with REM bassist Mike Mills Tweeting the news and various outlets subsequently confirming that Letterman will recite his final Top 10 List some time next year. David Letterman Retirement Announcement Letterman got his big break by performing stand-up many times on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He was then given NBC’s Late Night in 1982. In 1993, Letterman moved to CBS and became the host of The Late Show. His contract is set to expire in 2015 and he said at this afternoon’s taping that he’ll step away “sometime in the not too distant future.” That’s when “Paul and I will be wrapping things up.” In February, of course, Jay Leno stepped down from The Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon has been killing it in the ratings ever since. Expect speculation to soon begin over who will take over for Letterman, but let’s stop before that gets out of control and admire one of the funniest men to ever grace a television screen.
