Jennifer Lopez Latest Celeb To Enlist Fan Feedback On The Net

J. Lo is letting you choose ending of her ‘On the Floor’ video, joining growing list of stars who have also left decisions to fans. By James Dinh Jennifer Lopez Photo: Jeffrey Mayer/ Getty Images Jennifer Lopez is set to drop her dance-tastic video for “On the Floor” in less than a week, and she’s letting her fans choose how the Taj Stansberry-directed clip ends. On Thursday, Lopez visited Ryan Seacrest’s morning radio show to announce that she’d be giving her fans the option to pick between two 15-to-20-second alternate endings , with the final cut airing during the March 3 “American Idol” broadcast at 8 p.m. ET/PT. “You get to do what I do,” J. Lo said during “On-Air With Ryan Seacrest.” “Like, I go in there with my videos and I start editing and picking all the shots I like and the things that I like and what I feel the best kind of feeling for the record is. You guys get to do that. We picked two different ones and we weren’t sure.” Lopez joins a list of stars, who have also maintained an interactive relationship with fans in order to get feedback on everything from song selection to tour set lists and promotional appearances. Katy Perry’s “E.T.” Single Back in December, Katy took to Twitter to ask fans what they thought should be the next single off her smash Teenage Dream. Shortly after, the pop star thanked fans for their suggestions, admitting that she agreed with the majority of them. Fast-forward two months as Katy selected the futuristic tune “E.T.” as to be the fourth release off her sophomore effort, and adding Kanye West into the mix. Bon Jovi’s Concert Set List When Bon Jovi teamed up with YouTube for a special concert show last year, the rockers were set on giving fans complete control. Lead singer Jon Bon Jovi recorded a video message, which was appropriately uploaded onto the site, asking fans to send in their song suggestions via text or video entry. And as expected, the group performed signature hits, including “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “It’s My Life” during the concert event. Janet Jackson’s Tour Dates Scheduling a tour can be difficult for busy artists, especially when there are so many cities to cover. However, that’s not the case with Janet Jackson’s upcoming world tour , for which she allowed fans vote on the cities where they’d most like to see her perform. The pop icon eventually selected a slew of dates based on fan submissions and they’ll get to hear her perform songs from her greatest-hits album, Number Ones. Rolling Stone Cover It’s not only stars who request fan feedback: Rolling Stone magazine is letting fans choose 1 of 16 unsigned bands to grace their coveted front cover, they announced last week. Through a tournament-style competition, fans will submit votes until the last two bands are standing. From there, the finalists will compete in an onstage battle of the bands that will determine who gets the cover and a recording contract from Atlantic Records. Betty White’s ‘SNL’ Facebook Campaign As Betty White’s popularity skyrocketed in recent years, so did the demand for her onscreen appearances, including admirers who wanted her to score a gig on “Saturday Night Live.” After an overwhelming Facebook campaign to have the then-88-year-old actress host the late-night sketch comedy show, White finally took the “SNL” stage and gave viewers what they wanted. With the help of White, “SNL” alums like Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph, and musical guest Jay-Z, the show earned its best numbers in more than 18 months. ‘American Idol’ Unveils Season 10 Top 24

The show moves on, sending some early favorites packing. By James Montgomery Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez on “American Idol” on Feb. 24 Photo: Michael Becker / FOX After Wednesday night’s drama-filled cliffhanger — in which we saw three cities, a whole lot of shocking eliminations, the partial reveal of this season’s top 24 and one truly epic meltdown by judge Jennifer Lopez — “American Idol” cut down on the theatrics Thursday night (February 24) and got down to the business of unveiling the remaining finalists. That’s not to say there still weren’t tears (there were, mostly from Lopez), but most of the names the “Idol” judges chose for the top 24 were drama-free: front-runners like Julie Zorilla, Lauren Alaina, Jordan Dorsey, Pia Toscano and Jacob Lusk all breezed through, though Lusk earned the highest praise, as Randy Jackson told him his performance of “God Bless the Child” was “the single best performance on ‘Idol,’ ever.” And even some of the tight decisions weren’t really all that suspenseful. Karen Rodriguez, Robbie Rosen, country crooner Scotty McCreery and Casey Abrams all earned spots in the top 24, even if they had to sit through a few minutes of psych-out tactics by the judges. Kendra Chantell, Lauren Turner, a tearful Tatynisa Wilson, Jovany Barreto, Tim Halperin and Stefano Langone also moved on to the “Idol” semifinals. In fact, there were really only two shock inclusions in the top 24: quirky opera singer Rachel Zevita (who swayed the judges with her final performance, a searing take on Lady Gaga’s “Speechless”) and rocker James Durbin, who wailed through the Sam Cooke classic “A Change Is Gonna Come.” There were, however, more than a few shocking exclusions. Not really the likes of John Wayne Schulz or Jackie Wilson (who took umbrage with the judges’ decision, asking them bluntly, “Really? Why?”), but in the final cuts, which saw the show bid adieu to some favorites. Seven-time “Idol” auditioner Jessica Cunningham and 15-year-old prodigy Thia Megia were the last two female singers left standing, but only one of them would move on to the top 24. In the end, the judges took Megia, sending Cunningham packing once again, on her birthday no less (she thanked them with a pair of middle fingers). And that left three guys competing for the final spot in the top 24: teen favorite Jacee Badeaux , wiry-haired Brett Loewenstern and dour rocker Colton Dixon. All three held hands as they walked toward their final judgment, and, after some serious moments of tension, Loewenstern’s name was called, leaving Badeaux and Dixon on the outside looking in. All in all, 19 singers were selected Thursday night, joining Naima Adedapo, Haley Reinhard, Paul McDonald, Clint Jun Gamboa and Ashthon Jones in the top 24. And the competition goes live next week, with the guys kicking things off Tuesday. Oscars Best And Worst Fashions: Experts Weigh In!

MTV News asked a pair of fashion-industry notables to share their choices for the best and worst looks in Oscars history. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus at the 2010 Oscars Photo: Getty Images The Academy Awards are just days away and that means that soon enough some of Hollywood’s biggest names will be hitting the red carpet while donning some of the most haute couture they can get their hands on. But, before they hit the carpet, MTV News reached out to some fashion-world experts and asked them to weigh in on the event’s best and worst looks ever, which the stars perhaps should take note of before they decide on what to wear. We caught up with fashion-industry maven and People’s Revolution founder Kelly Cutrone, as well as Faran Krentcil, digital director at Nylon magazine, who divulged their favorite and least favorite looks from Oscars history. Best Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta, 2010 : Both Cutrone and Krentchil agreed that this was a winning look for the star. “On another actress it might have looked a little overdone, but Cameron managed to make the dress look like it was just lying on her bedroom floor, and she grabbed it on her way out of the bath. That’s true star power, isn’t it?” Krentcil explained. Maggie Gyllenhaal in Dries Van Noten, 2010 : “I think that it’s not that hard to put a beautiful dress on a girl and get away with it, and then there are people who really understand it … I think that Maggie Gyllenhaal was a great example of that,” Cutrone revealed. “Dries was not obvious; it’s an inside brand. It’s really about beauty and aesthetic.” Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham, 2010 : Cutrone felt that Miley’s look bridged the singer/actress from, well, tween star to teen star. She explained, “The truth of the matter is she has gone from a Disney star to a Vanity Fair cover girl and it brought it back to the middle. [She] really shined.” Natalie Portman in Lanvin, 2005 : “This dress was slightly see-through and the color of a gasping sea monster,” Krentcil recalled of the outfit. “And its floaty shape and grey-blue-green-purple shimmer made it beyond chic.” Anne Hathaway in Valentino, 2009 : Krentcil didn’t have much more to say than “yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,” about why the beaded, white sheath worked so well for this year’s Oscars co-host. Worst Charlize Theron in Dior, 2010 : “She looked ridiculous and she’s so beautiful. She deserved to wear something better,” Cutrone noted, adding about the outdated nature of the dress, “It looked like a Gaultier throwback piece, not like Dior. I didn’t know Nancy Reagan was working for Dior.” Jennifer Lopez in Giorgio Armani Priv

‘American Idol’ Says Hello To Some Of Top 24, Goodbye to Chris Medina, Others

Weepy Ashley Sullivan and White House intern Molly DeWolf Swensen were also sent packing. By Eric Ditzian Contestants performs Beatles songs on “American Idol” on Wednesday Photo: FOX On Wednesday, “American Idol” promised all night long to reveal its top 24 contestants, but we ultimately only found out the identity of five semi-finalists. On a Beatles-themed evening, we said hello to the likes of karaoke host (and onetime tormenter of fellow singer Jacee Badeaux) Clint Jun Gamboa, little featured but very soulful singer/songwriter Paul McDonald, and sweet-voiced Naima Adedapo, who left behind a life of scrubbing toilets at a Milwaukee concert venue for life crooning in Idol Land. Yet we also said goodbye to a bunch of reality show hopefuls we’d come to know well. As we await word on Thursday (February 24) of the rest of the top 24, let’s take a moment to remember some of season 10’s most memorable singers who got the boot on Wednesday. Ashley Sullivan We can wonder why producers ever invited the alarmingly fragile 25-year-old to Hollywood — only falling onto her knees and bursting into riotous tears at the New Jersey audition earned her a golden ticket — but there’s no doubting that Sullivan became one of the season’s most recognizable faces (even if that face was most often contorted in tears). While she wanted to be the first show-tune pop star, Sullivan instead became another contestant who melted in the spotlight. She attempted to quit during group week, forgot her lyrics during a subsequent solo performance, and then got married, seemingly on a whim, to her boyfriend when the show made a Vegas stopover. Her wedding present from “Idol” producers? A one-way ticket back home. Chris Medina Most “Idol” observers believed Medina was a lock to make the top 24. Not only did he possess an above-average instrument, but he arrived on the scene with a heartbreaking backstory. His fianc

Paul McDonald Brings Nashville Cool To ‘American Idol’

Scruffy top 24 semi-finalist wowed judges and became a Twitter trending topic after Wednesday’s Las Vegas episode. By Adam Graham Paul McDonald performs on “American Idol” Wednesday Photo: FOX The coolest contestant of season 10’s “American Idol” has stepped out in the form of Paul McDonald. The 25-year-old from Nashville, Tennessee, was voted through to the “Idol” top 24 on Wednesday’s (February 23) episode, and his laid-back, easygoing style makes him an early standout among the semifinalists. The scruffy-bearded McDonald, who auditioned for “Idol” in his hometown of Nashville, was first seen on Wednesday singing the Beatles’ “Blackbird” during the Las Vegas round with his duet partner Kendra Chantelle. McDonald’s smooth vocals — which have sort of a Jason Mraz-meets-Mike Posner quality — caused judge Steven Tyler to exclaim, “Yeah! I love his voice,” mid-song, while Jennifer Lopez turned to Tyler to show him the goose bumps on her arm. Lopez later praised McDonald’s “soft, beautiful tone,” saying it “cut right through” and made him stand out. His voice wasn’t the only thing that made McDonald stand out. For his final audition, McDonald sported a white Nudie Suit, complete with embroidered roses and that looked like something out of Jeff Tweedy’s closet. Not only that, but he chose to forgo popular logic and sang an original song for his final shot in front of the judges instead of a cover. The guy couldn’t blend into the background if he tried. “I’ve gotten this far based on, you know, just doin’ my thing, and if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be,” McDonald said in voiceover. It was meant to be: In his final sit-down with the judges, they praised his unique qualities and said while they’re not quite sure where he’ll land in the competition, it will be those same attributes that could potentially take him far. “We’re gonna bank on that and put you through,” Lopez told him. McDonald took the news in stride; raising his arms in victory, he let out a hearty laugh before thanking the judges. And while he said he’s spent the last few weeks “relaxin,’ hangin’ out,” now, he admitted he’s got some work ahead of him. “I gotta learn some songs!” he said. While he works on those new songs, his fanbase is already starting to grow. By the end of Wednesday’s episode, McDonald was a worldwide trending topic on Twitter, and he already had at least one former “Idol” contestant in his corner. “Paul McDonald is the man,” “Idol” season-eight finalist Matt Giraud tweeted . “Really impressed me.” What did you think of Paul McDonald?
