Chrisette Michele Raves About Rick Ross Reunion On ‘So In Love’

‘Aston Martin Music’ MC returns the favor on Michele’s just-released album, Let Freedom Reign. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Hillary Crosley and Joel Hanek Chrisette Michele Photo: MTV News Chrisette Michele rocketed to the top of the charts in 2009 with her album Epiphany. In 2010, she beefed up her hip-hop cred by appearing on Rick Ross’ “Aston Martin Music.” Now, the rapper is returning the favor by making a cameo on her just-released album, Let Freedom Reign. “It was something I was playing around with, [and I] put it together,” she told MTV News about her latest collaboration with the MC, “So in Love.” “And when it was all done, I said, ‘Ross, can you drop a verse?’ He did, and now he’s a lovebird.” The smooth love jam is a follow-up to the big-pimpin’ track they released over the summer. But this time the duo aren’t singing about their love of a certain high-end luxury car; they are talking all about romance. “He’s a really nice guy,” she said of Ross’ tough exterior, before adding that working with the rapper has been quite the change of pace. “I’m just a regular suburbia girl from Long Island. I happened to get onto a hip-hop record, and the response is crazy.” Michele was very involved in the whole album, including the Ne-Yo-penned, Chuck Harmony-produced lead single “I’m a Star.” “I was the co-executive producer on it, and I wrote nine of the 10 songs,” she said. “So I feel really, really a part of it.” Have you checked out Chrisette’s new album yet? La Roux’s Elly Jackson Says Next Album Will Be ‘Funkier’

Singer tells MTV News vocals are ‘a bit deeper and rounder and sexier.’ By Jocelyn Vena La Roux Photo: MTV News La Roux was pretty much “Bulletproof” in 2010. They managed to snag mainstream success, thanks to the synthy tune off their 2009 self-titled album, which also featured their Kanye West-remixed “In for the Kill.” So, how will the band follow up their beloved debut album? “Me and Ben [Langmaid] have been thinking about that a lot, and listening to a lot of stuff, and referencing things and talking about things,” the group’s leading lady, Elly Jackson, told MTV News. “We’ve done one or two weeks together, and I didn’t really expect to get much out of those weeks, and we got a lot of useful stuff out of it. To me, it’s the start of a record.” Jackson revealed that the duo have been listening to a lot of underground disco from the late ’70s and early ’80s, saying that they’ve been going deep and listening to “tracks people won’t know.” “So, I’m really excited,” she said. “My vocal style’s changed [for] one, so that’s going to be different. It’s a bit deeper and rounder and sexier … and definitely the musical style’s going to change, as well.” However, she’s quick to point out that they’re not messing with their formula so much that their signature sound won’t be recognizable to their fan base. “You’re going to still be able to tell its La Roux — synthy, bouncy elements — [but] more organic feeling, but funkier without being too flamboyant,” she added. “A lot more funkier rhythms and looser and less angular. … We’d like to move from that a little bit but keep elements of that.” Given that Jackson has upped her hip-hop game this year, she notes that the group won’t be stealing from that genre for their album. , “That’s why we did that with Kanye [and remixed ‘In for the Kill’] ’cause it’s a one-off, but La Roux and hip-hop don’t really mix … on our albums, certainly, they don’t mix.” What sound do you think La Roux should go for on their next album? Jazmine Sullivan Is Showing Her ‘Softer Side’ On New Album

But fans will ‘still get some fire’ on Love Me Back, R&B singer tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Joel Hanek Jazmine Sullivan Photo: MTV News Jazmine Sullivan announced she was Fearless in 2008 when she released her debut album. And while the LP shares a title with the Taylor Swift album released the same year, it was vastly different in musical style, thanks to help from Missy Elliot, Stargate, Salaam Remi and Wyclef Jean. Two years later, Sullivan is back with her follow-up, Love Me Back, and she gets an assist again from Elliot and Remi, as well as contributions from Ne-Yo, No I.D. and Los da Mystro. When MTV News caught up with Sullivan, she explained that she hoped to overcome the sophomore slump on this project. “This is my sophomore album, I definitely felt a lot of pressure during the beginning of it, but I kind of just released it and that’s when everything started to flow,” Sullivan said. “So I’m excited what people have to say about it.” The singer has released two singles — “Holding You Down (Goin’ in Circles)” and “10 Seconds” — from the album, which has been getting high scores from reviewers. Sullivan said this time around she wanted to show fans a different side of herself. “I think you’ll definitely see a softer side,” she said. “You’ll still get some fire — I can’t give that up — but definitely going to get a softer side. There are different sides of love, good and bad.” What do you think of Jazmine Sullivan’s new album? Share your reviews in the comments! Related Artists Jazmine Sullivan

Enrique Iglesias Didn’t Want To Sound ‘Arrogant’ On AMA Song ‘Tonight’

‘Some songs are supposed to be taken seriously; some songs are not supposed to be taken as seriously,’ he tells MTV News of new single. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Enrique Iglesias Photo: MTV News When Enrique Iglesias took the stage at the American Music Awards on Sunday (November 21), he not only performed the mega-hit “I Like It,” but also his self-proclaimed raunchy new single “Tonight.” While he cleaned up the lyrics in the chorus from “Tonight, I’m f—ing you” to “Tonight, I’m loving you,” he told MTV News he’s pretty connected to both versions. “For me, the most important thing when I was in the studio singing it was, ‘How do I sing this and not sound arrogant, like an idiot or way too out there?’ And that’s really what it came down to,” he told MTV News. “I did it a bunch of times, and I heard it back, and it felt good for me, the phrase: ‘Please excuse, I don’t mean to be rude, but tonight, I’m [f—ing] you.’ I thought I didn’t want it to be one of those songs I heard on the radio and say to myself, ‘Man, I wish I would have sang that.’ And I felt it was one of those special ones.” Iglesias isn’t known to use expletives in his music, but admits that there was just something about this song. “There wasn’t [any reservations]. … The minute I put vocals on it and it felt good, I’m like, ‘I got to go with it.’ … ‘Cause it’s not that I was trying to push it; I just liked the song,” he said. “Really, that’s what it comes down to at the end of the day: If I like the song, the melody, the message. Some songs are supposed to be taken seriously; some songs are not supposed to be taken as seriously. This one, you can take both ways,” he smiled. What did you think of Enrique’s AMA performance? Eva Longoria Confirms Divorce From Tony Parker With ‘Great Sadness’

‘We love each other deeply and pray for each other’s happiness,’ she tweets. By Jocelyn Vena Eva Longoria and Tony Parker Photo: Michael Tran/ Getty Images After news broke of her divorce from Tony Parker on Wednesday (November 17), Eva Longoria released a statement on Twitter confirming the split. “It is with great sadness that after 7 years together, Tony and I have decided to divorce,” the “Desperate Housewives” star wrote. “We love each other deeply and pray for each other’s happiness.” Longoria’s soon-to-be-ex-husband also took to Twitter to post a nearly identical statement. TMZ posted the papers the actress filed at L.A. County Superior Court, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Longoria is also asking for spousal support from Parker, who plays for the San Antonio Spurs. The legal docs mention the prenup the couple signed in 2007 and amended last year. The couple had been plagued with rumors of Parker’s infidelity, and a source told TMZ that the actress is “devastated.” Longoria, 35, and Parker, 28, met in November 2004 and were engaged in November 2006. They exchanged vows during a small civil service and again, a day later, on July 7, 2007, at Chateau of Vaux le Vicomte, a 17th-century castle on the outskirts of Paris. They have no children together. The news of Parker and Longoria’s split was surprising, as the couple are frequently photographed cuddling and generally appearing happy together. Just last month, Longoria stopped by the “Ellen” show, where she told host Ellen DeGeneres that Parker surprises her every year for their anniversary and that this year he took her to Croatia. Mid-story, Longoria seemed to sense that DeGeneres might be planning one of her signature “scares,” and when the actress turned around, Parker was standing on set. He ran out and gave her a hug and kiss in front of the audience. Related Photos Eva Longoria And Tony Parker In Happier Times

Eva Longoria Files For Divorce From Tony Parker

The actress filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Wednesday after a rep denied the split on Tuesday. By Jocelyn Vena Tony Parker and Eva Longoria Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images Though on Tuesday, Eva Longoria released a statement denying that she and basketball player Tony Parker were getting divorced, on Wednesday (November 17), the “Desperate Housewives” star did in fact file to dissolve their marriage. TMZ posted the papers that the actress filed at L.A. County Superior Court, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Longoria is also asking for spousal support from Parker, who plays for the San Antonio Spurs. The legal docs also mention the prenup the couple signed in 2007 and amended last year. The couple had been plagued with rumors of Parker’s infidelity, and a source told TMZ that the actress is “devastated.” Just one day before filing, Longoria’s rep issued a denial regarding a TMZ report that Parker had filed for divorce at a Texas courthouse. The site claimed two clerks at the Bexar County Courthouse confirmed papers were filed and sealed by a family law judge. TMZ later took down its report. Longoria, 35, and Parker, 28, met in November 2004 and were engaged in November 2006. They exchanged vows during a small civil service and again, a day later, on July 7, 2007, at Chateau of Vaux le Vicomte, a 17th-century castle on the outskirts of Paris.
