By Jocelyn Vena Photo: MTV News Fans have been clamoring for information about the Catherine Hardwicke-helmed, Amanda Seyfried-starring “Red Riding Hood.” And when the film hits theaters next year, Seyfried promises it will be nothing like the story they heard as children. This tale is a lot, lot darker. ” ‘Red Riding Hood’ is a classic fairy tale that we all know, and what fans can expect from this version of the story is that it’s basically just a jumping-off point. Catherine Hardwicke has just completely turned this story into something edgy and gothic and dark, and she’s clearly somebody that’s very capable of turning something, everything into an extraordinary world, as we’ve seen before,” Seyfried said about the film in an interview with “The Seven,” which premiered a trailer for the flick Tuesday (November 16). “And also there’s a romance aspect to the film, which isn’t in the fairy tale … a lot of romance and a lot of danger,” she continued. “There’s a wolf at the center of the story, and it’s exciting ’cause it’s a whodunit.” Sure, the fairy tale that the flick is based on is plenty scary, but Seyfried reveals that whatever frightening elements were there to begin with have gotten much more frightening under Hardwicke’s supervision, and thanks to a cast that includes Gary Oldman and Julie Christie . “Fans will be surprised by the tone of the film,” she explained. “Catherine just completely throws it into this dark world, and it’s a little scarier than it was meant to be when it was written. He’s been loved by his fans, hated by his critics, released an album and hit the road for his first headlining tour . And Lambert has managed to deal with all the pressures of fame thanks to some great advice he’s gotten from two very famous ladies. “She told me about the previous three years. She worked really, really hard before she made it. She told me there’s no glamour, you don’t get a lot of sleep, you don’t get a lot of stability in your social life — you just have to count on yourself and go for it. It was a good pep talk,” Lambert told Australia’s news.com.au about his pal Lady Gaga ‘s advice. “And she was right.” Like Gaga, Madonna, has warned Lambert about some of the negative sides of fame, including all those haters. “She told me that you can’t get wrapped up in all the media and message boards, that everyone’s going to have an opinion. People will criticize you, especially when you’re doing it well. You can’t do much better than getting career advice from Madonna,” he said. “She’s the queen, right? I’ve [learned] there are plenty of challenges, but if you work hard enough you can arrive. You find a spot for yourself and get to communicate with your art and hopefully inspire people. That’s what I’m working towards.” Like both those iconic women, Lambert has become a bit of a face for the gay community. But he doesn’t want that to be the only thing he’s known as. “I’m very comfortable with my sexuality and I have no qualms talking about it,” he said. “It’s important for me to be bold about it. There are not a lot of examples of that in pop culture. I’m happy to fill that role. “But I did an interview the other day and every question was a sensationalized question about being gay and the gay lifestyle. There’s a fine line,” he continued. “As open as I am to mentioning it, I’m not a gay spokesman. I’m a singer. I’m an entertainer who happens to be gay. I’m going to work hard with the next album to make that the message. When the first line is ‘Openly gay singer Adam Lambert …’ it gets a little frustrating. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on “CSI” Photo: CBS Justin Bieber might be one of a handful of pop stars to make a cameo on “CSI,” but he has certainly left his mark on the cast and the crew of the hit CBS crime drama. When Bieber hits the small screen Thursday night (September 23) for his performance as Jason McCann, he will certainly leave fans stunned by his acting chops, one of the show’s producers told MTV News. “I thought that he did a really good job. We only had Justin for a day, for 10 and a half hours, and he had a lot of work crammed into those 10 and a half hours,” executive producer Carol Mendelsohn said about the first of Bieber’s two appearances on the show. “And he had one super big scene, and the scene was an interrogation scene in the police department with [actor] George Eads, and George actually took Justin under his wing.” Why did the veteran “CSI” actor feel that Biebs was worthy of his mentorship? “George said that when he was just starting out, Tom Selleck took him under his wing, so I think he tried to return that kindness, and he really had some time to work the material,” she explained. “We built in some time, and I thought that scene was really good, and Justin had a couple of scenes where he didn’t have a lot of dialogue or no dialogue and then two pretty heavy scenes.” Noting that Bieber did a “really good job” with the heavier work, Mendelsohn added that Bieber has some acting chops. “It’s hard for any accomplished, mature actor to come on the set and fall right into character and do your work, so kudos to Justin,” she said. But of all the ladies rumored to be involved, “California Gurls” singer Katy Perry was the only one who actually showed up. Gomez said she had to fight tooth and nail to make Perry’s cameo happen. “Katy Perry gave me a song called ‘Rock God.’ It’s one of my favorite songs ever,” she told MTV News. “I actually had to fight for that song. I wanted it so bad. It’s kind of funky, and I think I used her style and we kind of mixed it up with the producers that I worked with with my style, so we made it a little bit more techno.” Not only did Perry lend her the song, she also lent Gomez vocals on the track. “I just loved her style, and she did background vocals on that as well,” she recalled. “So I was very, very blessed on the record, ’cause it’s so much fun, and I can’t wait to perform it.” How did the Disney princess and the pop star end up working together? “We actually have the same music agent, so whenever she’d have concerts and stuff, I’m a huge fan, so I definitely would go to most of her shows. And I’ve seen her at a couple of events, so I’ve talked to her,” Gomez explained. “But when it came to music, I didn’t want to get in personally. His rep confirmed the engagement to People.com . Aldridge appeared in the band’s “Use Somebody” music video. Followill is the latest Kings of Leon member to make plans to get hitched. Bandmate Nathan Followill got married last November to singer Jessie Baylin in an outdoor ceremony in Brentwood, Tennessee. While it appears that Caleb has been relatively mum about his love life, Nathan has been candid about the band’s less-than-discerning views on love prior to their committed relationships. “I think it definitely prepared us for this. By Jocelyn Vena Tony Dovolani and Audrina Patridge Photo: ABC Lo Bosworth always had Audrina Patridge ‘s back on “The Hills,” but she might be siding with another MTV star when it comes to who she thinks has a better shot on “Dancing With the Stars,” which kicks off its new season Monday night (September 20). “I think the Situation might have some moves that we don’t know about,” she told MTV News earlier this month on the VMA white carpet. “I’m looking forward to seeing it.” Aside from her new allegiance to the star of “Jersey Shore,” Bosworth is sure that Patridge will have the skills to pay the bills, or at the very least make it to the finals of the show. “I think she’s gonna do well,” she said. “I know that she really focuses on the task and tries to get it done, so I think it’s her drive that’ll take it through.” Patridge is set to kick off the dance competition with partner Tony Dovolani. She said that the dance pro is helping her through the process. “He is amazing,” she said. “He’s such a great teacher. He’s very professional, and we have a lot of fun together. It’s really fun. I look forward to going to rehearsal every day.” So, what has Dovolani been doing to make sure that Patridge keeps up her confidence as a newbie dancer? Justin Bieber Sings For Fans At Hooters In Canada

The 16-year-old superstar was spotted and photographed with a bevy of Hooters waitresses after he stopped by the restaurant’s local outpost at the West Edmonton Mall in Canada on Saturday, the Edmonton Sun reports. He was in town for a stop on his My World tour . Not only did Bieber and his entourage, including four of his backup dancers, stop by for a quick visit, he also serenaded everyone at the restaurant. One of the servers at the restaurant, Tania Biggar, explained, “We were talking about deep-fried pickles. Then they said they would sing to me for free deep-fried pickles. The manager said if they sang for the whole restaurant, he’d pay for their entire meal. They serenaded the girls. They were actually super-polite. They were just awesome people to serve. They weren’t demanding or anything like that.” The impromptu performance had fans in a frenzy. “Everybody that was sitting around them went over to talk to them. They told them they did an awesome job of singing,” she said. Biggar further explained that while the Hooters girls did get a photo with Bieber, they didn’t get much one-on-one time with him. “None of the [servers] really got to talk to him. He was surrounded by his fans,” she said. “That’s how we knew he was coming in — it was all 14-year-old girls. And they all kind of move as one.” YouTube footage of the Hooters visit shows Bieber, dressed in a black jacket and black hat, walking through crowds of people. Despite all the fans trying to catch a glimpse of the star, it seems things remained relatively more low-key than past Bieber mall appearances . The restaurant’s manager, Sonny Verma, confirmed the blink-and-you’ll-miss-him appearance of the “U Smile” singer to the Edmonton Journal . “We probably had a row six people deep and 10 people long at the window. James Franco Is ‘Fascinated’ By ‘Twilight’

‘The go-to guys, Taylor and Rob, are in the tent [and] it’s almost like a ‘Brokeback Mountain’ scene,’ he tells MTV News of ‘Eclipse.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz James Franco Photo: MTV News James Franco is becoming not only an actor-of-all-trades, what with his stints in dramas, comedies and soap operas, but also a bit of a Renaissance man, having gone back to school for a master’s degree, filming a documentary, etc. So it should come as no surprise that he has some very insightful thoughts on the phenomenon that is “Twilight.” When we caught up with Franco at the Toronto International Film Festival recently, where he was alongside director Danny Boyle promoting their buzzy “127 Hours,” we asked him his thoughts on the series. “I haven’t read the last one! I kind of know what happens … some very strange birth, right?” he asked rhetorically about Stephenie Meyer’s fourth book in the series, “Breaking Dawn.” “I read a part of it. I think I got to the sex scene, but it was so brief, I didn’t even know if it was the actual sex scene,” he admitted. “It was kind of a letdown after all that buildup.” But did he enjoy the three novels he has read? “I wouldn’t say I enjoy them, but I’m fascinated with them. I’m interested in the metaphor of the vampire placed in the high school setting and how a relationship with a vampire can stand in for general feelings that people have as teenagers,” he said. “And the obsession people have with that is also fascinating to me.” Franco also revealed that he has seen the three “Twilight” movies, enough to call out series superstars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner by first names and cite the infamous “tent scene” in the process. “The movies are interesting also because they’ve really become part of the whole ‘Twilight’ phenomenon, and it’s really hard to extricate those actors from the reading experience or just the phenomenon of ‘Twilight’ now. They’ve become a part of it to the point that the movies are almost commenting on themselves,” Franco said. “There will be a scene where the go-to guys, Taylor and Rob, are in the tent, it’s almost like a ‘Brokeback Mountain’ scene, where the two guys are talking in a tent and the girl is asleep, and they’re having, like, this romantic moment almost through her, in a way. One of them says, ‘Well, I’m hotter than you,’ and it’s almost like they’re winking at the fans, like to the Team Jacob or the Team Edwards.” Perhaps we should enlist Mr. Franco for further “Twilight” analysis … What do you think of Franco’s “Twilight” enthusiasm? Fans already love its singles “Round & Round” and the title track, and now Gomez has the ultimate seal of approval on the album from her pal and fellow superstar Taylor Swift . “It was so funny, I got to see her and we played each other both of our records, and I was so excited,” Gomez told MTV News. “I’m so excited for her record ’cause it’s amazing. But then she heard mine and it’s so funny ’cause she’s very passionate and she’s very dramatic — which I think is why we’re friends because we’re both dramatic — but she has her favorites already.” So, what are the Swift-approved tracks? “She likes ‘Rock God and ‘Ghost of You’ a lot,” Gomez said. “But she definitely danced and had her little thing. She’s completely honest with me, so it was nice to have her feedback.” Gomez is just as stoked for Swift’s October release of her highly anticipated Speak Now album. “My favorite songs from her record would be ‘Dear John’ and another one … it’s number 13 on the record ’cause that’s her favorite number … it’s really sweet,” she teased. “There’s two that I’m absolutely in love with.” With fans already getting a taste of Swift’s new album thanks to “Mine” and the VMA-premiered track “Innocent” hitting the airwaves, Gomez thinks they’ll really love what they hear. “Her album is going to be awesome.
