Miley Cyrus Says She’s A ‘Huge Fan’ Of Lady Gaga

‘I think she’s always herself to the full,’ singer tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News Miley Cyrus might be pals with pop stars like Justin Bieber and she might make pop albums, but she says that when she goes home at night, pop is the last thing she listens to. Unless, that is, you’re talking about Lady Gaga, in which case she’s all about The Fame Monster. “Huge fan! That’s my pop guilty pleasure. I love Lady Gaga ,” Cyrus recently told MTV News. “I think she’s always herself to the full. I don’t see anyone trying to put together her stuff — she does it herself. She’s very creative, I think, just taking that upon yourself and knowing that the only way it’s going to be done the way you want it to be is to be heavily involved.” Cyrus admits that she really loves Gaga’s whole image; it’s not just about the music. “Even though she’s a pop artist, I look at her videos and I don’t see a squeaky pop singer or perky all the time,” she explained. “Her stuff means real things, so she’s cool. I like her.” Not only does Cyrus admire Gaga, she also recently revealed her love for the late Michael Jackson . But that’s pretty much where the pop music love begins and ends. “People are always like, ‘What do you mean you don’t listen to pop music and you’re a pop artist?’ But there’s something about performing to those dance vibes that is so much fun,” she said. “I work so much, so I like really chill [music] or just rock, you know, real, real stuff. But on my record I like dancing. I like performing pop music.” What do you think of Miley’s comments about Gaga? Tell us in the comments! ‘Breaking Dawn’ Screenwriter Says Split Gives Films ‘Room To Breathe’

‘There’s a little more room to really expand and explore some of the mythology,’ Melissa Rosenberg says of final two ‘Twilight’ movies. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Melissa Rosenberg Photo: MTV News While “Twilight” screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg is working on the “Breaking Dawn” scripts, she said the one hitch is trying to figure out where to break the book into two parts — but it’s a welcome challenge. “We’re still fudging around with that, not quite sure, but there’s a natural area in which to break it,” she told MTV News about her work on films, expected to start shooting later this year. “The first half is really about Bella as a human and a newlywed and then pregnant, and the second half is about her as a vampire and a parent, so somewhere in that transition is where the break is.” No matter what ends up happening in the films, Rosenberg is sure she will have plenty of room to do everything she and the fans want for the films. “What’s nice about having it be two films is that there’s room to breathe,” she said. “If it were to be one, it would so much condensing that I’d have to be leaving story lines by the roadside. “Here, there’s a little more room to really expand and explore some of the mythology,” she continued. “And we began that in ‘Eclipse,’ to be able to get into the invention of Riley’s backstory and the creation of Riley and some of the other characters. In ‘Breaking Dawn,’ there’s even more room to do that, and I’m having fun with that.” Rosenberg recently said she was unsure if she’d want to show Bella’s infamous birth scene onscreen in “Breaking Dawn,” explaining: “You know, you can do childbirth without seeing childbirth. … It doesn’t mean it’s any less evocative of an experience.” Where do you think Rosenberg should split “Breaking Dawn”? Miley Cyrus Says Can’t Be Tamed Is All About Female Empowerment

‘It’s just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back,’ she says of her new album. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News Miley Cyrus has always been about girl power. Her tracks like “7 Things” and “The Climb” may at first glance seem like party anthems or weepy ballads, but she thinks that upon closer inspection her lyrics empower young women. And she says the tracks on her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, are no different. “I think ‘Tamed’ does it the best, and ‘Liberty Walk,’ ” she told MTV News. “It’s just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back. And I think that’s really important, especially for girls, because so many people are told, ‘No, you can’t do something,’ or, ‘You need to be this because Mom and Dad say that, teachers say this.’ ” Her advice? Try to see what advice makes the most sense for your life. “Really think about what you want to do for the rest of your life,” the 17-year-old said. “There’s a short amount of time, when you think about it, and no day needs to go by wasted.” As for “Liberty Walk,” Cyrus said she tried to combine a very serious topic with a lighter sound. “I wrote it for women that feel like they’re stuck in abusive relationships, but it’s a dance song,” she said. “So you think that must be kind of a sad ballad, but it’s a party song. … It’s about breaking free.” Which new Miley Cyrus song is your favorite? Miley Cyrus Says ‘Rock Band’ Is Her Tour Warm-Up

‘It’s pretty cool that now I can warm up playing my own songs,’ Cyrus says of having her songs added to the game. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miley Cyrus Photo: MTV News This is a big week for Miley Cyrus. After dropping her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, and performing a live-streamed show to celebrate it on Monday, she’s giving fans a glimpse of what it’s like to be her with Tuesday’s release of some of her songs to the “Rock Band” store. Actually, Cyrus has long been a fan of the game, which she said offers her the chance to practice while on the road. “I sat in front of the TV 90 percent of the tour, just playing ‘Rock Band’,” Cyrus confessed to MTV News. “It’s pretty cool that now I can warm up playing my own songs on ‘Rock Band’ and then go do it in real life. So it’s pretty rad. It’s a better warm-up.” This will mark Cyrus’ “Rock Band” debut, with five songs made available for download in the “Rock Band” music store. The “Miley Cyrus Pack 01” will feature five of Miley’s fan favorites, including “Can’t Be Tamed” from her new album, as well as “7 Things,” “Fly on the Wall” and “See You Again” from 2008’s Breakout, and “See You Again” from her 2007 debut, Meet Miley Cyrus. “I can’t wait for my fans to be able to download and play five of my songs in ‘Rock Band,'” Cyrus said back when it was announced that she’d be joining the ranks of Green Day and the Beatles in the “Rock Band” world. “I love that people can rock out with me and play my new song, ‘Can’t Be Tamed’!” Will you be playing Miley Cyrus “Rock Band”? ‘Jonah Hex’: Dead Man Walking, By Kurt Loder

The venerable comic-book cowboy comes to life … sort of. Josh Brolin in “Jonah Hex” Photo: Warner Bros. “Jonah Hex” is about as anti- as a hero can get. It’s not just his chewed-up cowboy hat, his bullet-riddled duster and his perma-surly disposition. It’s the melted skin running down one side of his face and the ugly hole torn in the flesh next to his mouth (which makes whiskey-drinking a messy enterprise, but not — as we see just before he shoots up a barroom full of bad guys — an impossible one). In cooking down 38 years’ worth of DC comics for “Jonah Hex,” the new movie, director Jimmy Hayward and his writers have produced a lumpy soup of western action and supernatural shenanigans, heavily spiced with narrative confusion. The story leaps back and forth in time, and while the picture is sometimes funny, possibly intentionally, at some points it’s anybody’s guess what’s going on. In playing Jonah, Josh Brolin is stuck with a character whose facial constriction reduces him to little more than a walking bad attitude — he’s like Clint Eastwood’s old Man with No Name in the Sergio Leone westerns but without the warmth. The time is just after the Civil War (at least when it’s not during the Civil War). We learn that Jonah was framed for the betrayal of his Confederate battle unit, which resulted in the death of his friend, Jeb Turnbull (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Jeb’s demented father, Quentin (John Malkovich in full cuckoo mode), retaliated by killing Jonah’s wife and son, and disfiguring his face with a red-hot branding iron. Now (or sometimes now) Jonah roams the West as a bad-ass bounty hunter, his only love connection a beautiful whore named Lilah (Megan Fox). When Ulysses S. Grant (Aidan Quinn), president of the newly reunited States, learns that Turnbull is creating a “super-weapon” that will be a “nation-killer,” he recruits Jonah to stop him. Our battered hero is well-equipped to do so. After a close call with death some years back, Jonah was left with one foot in the spirit world; and so while he spends much of the movie being shot and beaten, he appears to be unkillable. He’s attended by a pack of hellhounds (“I wouldn’t try to pet ’em if I was you”) and has the useful gift of bringing dead men back to life with a touch of his hand. (“I’m sorry I killed you,” he tells one corpse, after raising him from the grave. Says the dead guy: “I’d better be getting back under ground.”) Jonah also has a taste for esoteric weaponry — saddle-mounted Gatling guns, dynamite-firing crossbow pistols — and a talent for dodging bullets by simply leaning back a bit to let them fly by (past our madly rolling eyes). The lovely Lilah is no slouch in the slick department, either: When she and Jonah are handcuffed to an overhead rod, the cuffs suddenly snap free, and she brandishes a lock pick. “My mama didn’t raise no fool,” she says. (To which we reply, “What the hell … ?”) Despite the picture’s wall-to-wall uproar — train-jackings, bullet storms, incessant detonations — there’s little excitement to it. The action is furious from the outset and remains at that level throughout, increasingly diluting its intended effect. And the dialogue, which I take to be satirical, never quite meshes with the film’s heavy violence. Like its half-dead protagonist, the movie never comes completely alive. Megan Fox Says It’ll Be ‘Years’ Before She Marries Brian Austin Green

‘I’m going to be 44 when I get married,’ the ‘Jonah Hex’ star jokes about her wedding plans. By Jocelyn Vena Megan Fox Photo: Paramount Pictures Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green confirmed that they were engaged earlier this week, and while it’s not the pair’s first engagement , Fox admits that she doesn’t think of this newer engagement as take two. “[It’s] really not a re-engagement … nothing is different,” Fox told UsWeekly.com at Thursday’s “Jonah Hex” premiere in Los Angeles, where the film’s female lead sported a sexy red dress, but no engagement ring. The couple reportedly lost the two-carat ring mere hours after getting engaged in Hawaii on June 1. Fox, 24, has already been with Green, 36, for six years, and she admits that she’s in no rush to walk down the aisle. “It’s going to be years!” she explained. “I’m going to be 44 when I get married!” And, it seems that Green is keeping with the current trend of hands-on wedding-planning grooms,

Kristen Stewart Says ‘The Love Triangle Is Real’ In ‘Eclipse’

‘It took a while for her to know herself well enough to make a decision,’ Stewart tells MTV News of Bella. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News We all know that Bella chooses Edward, but in “Eclipse,” Jacob has a shot for, like, a hot minute at maybe stealing the would-be vampire away from her true love. Kristen Stewart said that’s one of the things she loves about the film: Bella, now on the brink of making a major life decision, is finally empowered enough to feel like Jacob could be the guy for her. “I feel like she goes through so many traumatic events, and when she gets to the end of them, she feels a little bit more righteous than she did before,” she told MTV News. “A little bit more knowing and sort of like, ‘I’ve lived. Take my word for it. I know what I want.’ And nobody ever puts any stock in what she’s saying.” Instead, Stewart said, “Bella’s just sort of the dumb young girl who doesn’t know what it’s like to be a vampire, and it’s not about that for her. This whole vampire thing is going to be hard, but she’s a strong girl and she can make sacrifices. “What I like about ‘Eclipse’ is that … she really, actually looks at someone else, and it shatters her ideals,” Stewart added. So what does that mean for Bella, Edward and Jacob? “The love triangle is real,” Stewart said. “In [‘Eclipse’], she is just older and a little bit more [wise]. Now you really believe her. It took awhile for her to know herself well enough to make a decision.” We’ll be live at the L.A. premiere of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” on Thursday, June 24. Hanson Say Their Show With Drake Was ‘Canceled Just In Time’

‘With that many people, it got out of hand,’ Zac Hanson says of the scheduled NYC concert. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Hanson Photo: MTV News Not since a Justin Bieber show has there been such a pre-concert riot . On Tuesday night, when Drake and Hanson were scheduled to play a free show in New York, the crowd got a bit too overzealous for security, prompting the concert to be canceled. “It was still a big show; there was just no music involved, and instead of throwing out the rock sign, it was more of a ‘let’s throw chairs and some potted plants and anything else we can get our hands on,’ ” Zac Hanson told MTV News on Wednesday (June 16). “It was unexpected. There wasn’t enough security and organization, and everyone was just so surprised by the turnout, and with that many people, it got out of hand. They canceled it just in time, I think.” Taylor Hanson said the artists still wanted to put on the show, but the NYPD decided it was too dangerous to even try. “I will say simply that, since last night happened, it’s been all over the place, and there’s been all kinds of different comments,” he said. “And I know that Drake’s people, [concert organizer] Paper magazine, everyone in our camp totally wanted it to happen. And it really came down to the city going, ‘Hey, this is not safe.’ ” The guys said they have yet to catch up with Drake since it all went down. “Everybody has been a little bit shocked at the fact that things went down last night the way they did,” Taylor said. “We’ve already thrown it out there that we should get the Drake/Hanson combination happening with more [preparation].” Were you surprised that the Drake and Hanson show was canceled? Megan Fox Engaged To Brian Austin Green, Rep Confirms

‘Jonah Hex’ star and former ‘90210’ star had called off a previous engagement in 2009. By Jocelyn Vena Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox Photo: Steve Granitz/ Getty Images It seems that Brian Austin Green put a ring on it: A rep for Megan Fox confirmed to MTV News on Wednesday (June 16) that the “Jonah Hex” actress is officially engaged to the former “90210” star. The couple were engaged once before but called it off in February of last year. The news of their engagement was first reported Wednesday by UsMagazine.com . The magazine reported that Green popped the question on June 1 while the pair was vacationing in Hawaii, but a source said that in the excitement of the proposal, the two lost the ring. According to the source, the 2-carat ring, which the pair chose together, is reportedly still missing. “I saw her jumping up and down,” a witness said about the proposal, which reportedly took place at the Four Seasons Hualalai hotel in Hawaii. “Later, I saw a half dozen staff sifting through the sand.” Another eyewitness added, “Security and maintenance staff spent a couple of hours looking for it. No one found it.” Fox and Green (the latter of whom has a son, Kassius Lijah, from a previous relationship with actress Vanessa Marcil), first began dating in 2004, despite a 12-year age difference. Fox has been vocal about her preference for older men . “Boys in their 20s are a waste of time,” she explained to Elle. “They have nothing to offer conversationally. They’re immature. I feel like I have a better shot with someone in his 30s.” In the same interview, Fox added that it was Green’s maturity that makes him attractive to her. “He’s a man. He has an ego. He went through [fame] already and he doesn’t want it back — it was horrible,” Fox said. “So he has sympathy. He’s the one person that I know that if I’m struggling and everything’s getting crazy, I can call.” What do you think of Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green getting engaged again? ‘Breaking Dawn’ Birthing Scene May Occur Offscreen, Screenwriter Says

‘Twilight’ scribe Melissa Rosenberg says she’ll leave those decisions up to director Bill Condon. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Josh Horowitz Melissa Rosenberg Photo: MTV News Now that it’s been confirmed that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” is being split into two flicks , fans want even more details on how screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg will adapt the Stephenie Meyer novel, which includes a lot of sex and an incredibly gory birthing scene, into two PG-13 films. Well, there’s a good chance the graphic images of Bella in labor won’t be shown at all, Rosenberg says. “On the fan site, on Facebook, all the comments are, ‘It has to be R rated! You have to show the childbirth! Gore and guts and sex!’ For me it’s actually more interesting to not see it,” Rosenberg recently told the Los Angeles Times. “You know, you can do childbirth without seeing childbirth. … It doesn’t mean it’s any less evocative of an experience.” When MTV News caught up with Rosenberg to talk about “Eclipse,” she said she was going to leave a lot of those hard decisions, like how to show Bella giving birth to vampire spawn Renesmee, to director Bill Condon. “From a screenwriter standpoint that’s gonna land more squarely in the director’s hands,” she teased. “That’s one of those things [where] I kind of say [and] make a few sort of general suggestions on the page and say, ‘Go! Go, Bill! Do it!’ ” Franchise star Robert Pattinson told MTV News that he’s glad he doesn’t have to be the guy who decides how to bring the birthing scene to life. “I think that’s going to be very funny,” he said. “The only thing I know about it is the famous scene: the kind of cesarean scene … I do not envy Bill Condon to have to think of some way to do that.” Do you think they should show the birthing scene?
