Nicole Scherzinger Bringing ‘Spirit And Energy’ To ‘Dancing With The Stars’

‘I just want to connect with everyone out there in a completely different way,’ she says of her stint on the popular show. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Larry Carroll Nicole Scherzinger Photo: MTV News When “Dancing With the Stars” kicks off Monday night (March 22), pop star and experienced dancing pro Nicole Scherzinger will be one of the many familiar faces set to take the stage as a competitor on the popular ABC reality show. And while fans are used to seeing Scherzinger shimmy around onstage during Pussycat Dolls concerts, she said she wants fans to see a whole new side of her in the dance competition. “With this show, I feel like people are so used to seeing me in a certain light — they think they know me, but they don’t,” she said. “I just want to connect with everyone out there in a completely different way. I’m gonna have a lot of fun.” To get into a competitive mind-set, she’s using a particular Pussycat Dolls song for inspiration. “It’s, like, a lot of loosening up your buttons,” she joked about how she plans to win. “This show is a completely different style of dance with a completely different style of music, which means a completely different personality, spirit and energy. So I’m excited to share that with everyone.” Scherzinger will hit the dance floor with “DWTS” vet Derek Hough, and she warned: Expect the unexpected. “We’ve got some really interesting things planned. We want to do things differently, our own way,” she explained . “We’ve got some surprises that we’re planning. There’s so much to learn from him, because he’s the best. He’s an amazing choreographer. He’s so innovative.” Related Photos The 2010 Cast Of ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Justin Bieber Promises My World 2.0 Will Be ‘A Lot Of Fun’

Teen pop star’s sophomore album drops Tuesday. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News & Docs On Tuesday, fans will finally get a chance to get Justin Bieber’s sophomore album, My World 2.0. The teen pop star said he made sure he worked with the best people to get the right sound on the LP. “It’s gonna be a lot of fun, the album,” he told MTV News. “I co-wrote everything on the album, and I got to work with a lot of cool producers. I got to work with The-Dream, I worked with … a lot of cool people, so it was a lot of fun.” His favorite song on the album is “Up,” and he’s also partial to second single “U Smile.” “I worked with [Dan] August [Rigo]. I got him. He’s a really good writer,” Bieber said of his friend and collaborator. “The song is amazing. We really love the song, so we decided to cut it. It’s really amazing.” Ludacris contributed a verse to the album’s first track, “Baby,” and Bieber teased that “Baby” video co-star Drake might appear on the LP. “He’s just one of my good buddies. He’s here to hang out,” Bieber said, adding that if you want to know who else might pop up on the album, “You’ll have to see when it comes out.” The album’s lead single was produced by The-Dream, who raved about working with Bieber. “I wrote the single, ‘Baby,’ that features Ludacris, which is doing very good right now,” he said. Working with Bieber was a bit of a challenge for Luda, who had to enter a different headspace to write his verse. “They sent me the record, and I knew it was an instant smash,” Ludacris recalled. “I sat there and said, ‘Lemme just reminisce on the past and think about things I was thinking about when I was his age,’ and that’s basically how I stepped on the record. I guarantee — you mark my word — that’s gonna be one of the biggest songs of 2010.” While working on 2.0, Luda said he learned that he and Bieber are more alike than he would have imagined. “When I first met Justin, man, I felt like he’s definitely a little shy at first,” the rapper said. “I understand. I’m kind of the same way till I get comfortable with my surroundings, and then it’s just all out, just wild. Oh man, his career is just starting. When I tell you the longevity — he’s out of here.” Are you excited for Bieber’s album? Tell us in the comments! Watch Justin Bieber Rap In Exclusive ‘Baby’ Live Performance Sneak Peek

Check out this preview of Bieber’s March 23 MTV.com performance. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber While fans are anxiously awaiting Justin Bieber’s sophomore effort, My World 2.0, we have a sneak peek of an exclusive performance set to premiere on MTV.com next Tuesday, the day of the album’s release. In this preview , Bieber sits down for an acoustic version of his hit “Baby” and shows fans a different side of himself. On “Baby,” Bieber is usually joined by Ludacris, but for this version, the crooner takes over Luda’s part and spits the rhyme himself. Though Bieber has told MTV News that he has no plans to get into the rap game — even though he chills with guys like Luda, Diddy and Drake — his MCing skills aren’t half bad. Previously, Ludacris has talked about how he found inspiration to write lyrics for the teen star’s song about young love, admitting that it is a lot different than writing rhymes for his own albums. “He’s talking about [how] he’s mad that his girl left him and he still cares for her,” he said. “As soon as I heard it, I knew it was a hit, I just had to figure out how I could get on a record with a 15-year-old. So I sat there and said, ‘Let me reminisce on the past,’ and that’s basically how I stepped on the record. And I guarantee you, mark my word, that’s going to be one of the biggest songs of the year 2010.” Bieber also explained how he ended up on a track with the rapper. “Well, [Ludacris and I] both live in Atlanta. I met him a year prior to this and we figured it was a perfect collaboration for him, so we invited him out to do it,” Bieber said. “No, [he didn’t give me any advice]. I mean, he’s a rapper; he doesn’t sing. No, [I’m not planning on rapping]. Not at all. Nope.” Related Artists Justin Bieber

Miley Cyrus Received Hate Mail On Twitter

Cyrus cancelled her Twitter account after her tweets about gay marriage invited negative criticism. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Although Miley Cyrus deleted her Twitter account last fall, it still seems to be a hot topic of discussion as she makes the rounds promoting her latest flick, “The Last Song.” She said that one of the reasons she left the social-networking site is because she believes the Internet “wastes your life,” and in a new interview, she admits that some of the things she said in her tweets angered people. “There has been so much controversy sometimes about what I’ve said or done because I believe there are no mistakes, because God is the only one who can judge us,” Cyrus told Parade magazine. “That’s the reason I deleted my Twitter account because I said on there that I believed in gay marriage because everyone should have the right to love each other, and I got such hate mail about my being a bad person.” She also reveals in the interview that she isn’t a fan of the paparazzi that follow her around at all times. “The other day I felt a little bit in danger for the first time because there were too many photographers following me in too many cars. And I have to ask myself, ‘Why would any other 50-year-old man who was stalking a 17-year-old girl go to jail, but not these guys? I’m not as American as anyone else?’ ” she said. “I mean, they couldn’t sit outside of a high school but they can sit outside my recording studio. It’s creepy.” Cyrus said she doesn’t think she’d ever make country music because she thinks it would require her to act as “sweet as pie,” and that she recently became a fan of Lady Gaga. “I love her. She’s really smart. I caught her on ‘Oprah’ and she was really chill. I used to be like, yeah, I guess she’s talented but how much is she really singing. But I’ve become a convert. She has to be smart to come up with all her gags and the stuff she comes up with. She gets it. She knows exactly what she’s doing,” she explained, adding, “It’s like Dolly Parton. Dolly plays up that I’m-a-cute-dumb-blonde but, believe me, she’s not dumb. She’s sitting on a ba-jillion dollars.” Related Artists Miley Cyrus

Justin Bieber Wants ‘A Girl Who Is Funny’

The 16-year-old answers fan questions about girls, music and his favorite things in MySpace chat. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Larry Marano/ Getty Images Justin Bieber participated in a live MySpace Ustream chat on Thursday in London, where he dished all about girlfriends, inspiration, his favorite things and, of course, his new album, My World 2.0, out next Tuesday. Bieber even got fans’ hopes up by saying he wouldn’t rule out dating one of them. “I’m really excited about [my album], but I didn’t change my style. I’m still pop, R&B — that’s always been what I love,” he said about the new album’s vibe compared to My World. “My fans inspire me, as well as my mom inspires me and my dad and God inspires me. I’ve looked up to a lot of musicians, like Michael Jackson and Boyz II Men. … I met Boyz II Men. I didn’t get to meet Michal Jackson.” Bieber cited Boyz II Men’s “Down on One Knee” as his favorite song and “Smallville” as his favorite show. Asked what his three wishes of all time would be, he answered, “Well, the first wish would be for unlimited wishes because that just makes sense. And then the second wish would be for, I don’t know … to be able to fly … just fly everywhere. And then the third would be to get rid of poverty.” As for his love life, the 16-year-old said that he’s been in a relationship before, but has yet to fall in love. “I’ve had, like, three girlfriends,” he said. And when one viewer asked if he’d ever date a fan, he replied, “I think that it’s whatever the situation is. If that happens, it happens.” So, what does he look for in potential ladies? “I look for a girl who is funny,” he shared. “A girl who has a nice smile.” Related Artists Justin Bieber

And meeting Keys gave Fanning an opportunity to do something she had never done before: go to a concert. “I never went to concerts until very recently, and I was doing a movie with Alicia Keys so I went to her concert,” Fanning, who hits the big screen this week playing rocker Cherie Currie in “The Runaways,” told MTV News about her first concertgoing experience. She came to my L.A. show for my last tour and it was her first concert,” she recalled on Wednesday night in New York City, where she was playing a show at Madison Square Garden . “We had just finished a movie, ‘Secret Life of Bees,’ together … and I was so happy to be her first concert.” Keys added that the actress, now 16, certainly has the chops to be working in Hollywood for many years to come. “She’s an amazing person, an incredibly talented lady. She’s gonna be someone we watch flourish for many years. And I’m glad she will always say her first concert was me.” Also on Wednesday night, Fanning spoke about how very obedient to the rules she still is in her own life, even though she plays a wild child in her new movie. “Cherie kind of grew up with no restrictions or rules, kind of figuring it out for herself. It’s kind of different for me,” she shared. “I will never get to have that experience, so I kind of got to have it through the film.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Runaways.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘I loved the video,’ Bieber says about Ansari’s Funny or Die offering. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News “Parks and Recreation” star Aziz Ansari’s alter ego Raaaaaaaandy has declared war on Justin Bieber . In a Funny or Die video , he claims that Bieber stole his song “Baby” from him, and Raaaaaaaandy sits down to dish all about the day that Bieber (played by a lookalike) stopped by his studio, heard Raaaaaaaandy’s “Baby Baby” and then later released his own soundalike tune “Baby.” “Two months ago I was in the studio, working on the Raaaaaaaandy mixtape and Justin Bieber stops by … what happens next?” he teased, before continuing with his tale. “That’s real nice, man,” Fake Bieber tells Raaaaaaaandy before shooting him and telling him to keep his mouth shut until he releases his own version of the hit track. What happens next? Bieber trashes Raaaaaaaandy’s studio and leaves Raaaaaaaandy a message not to mess with him. As it turns out, the real Justin Bieber finds the whole video pretty hilarious. “Yeah yeah yeah! I saw it! It was hilarious. I loved the video,” Bieber told MTV news. “He did a great job and the so-called Justin Bieber in the video was hilarious.” And while Bieber gives a big “maybe” to collaborating with Raaaaaaaandy in the future, Ansari has made it clear on his Twitter page that he’s serious about getting Bieber back for the plagiarism. “Swear I just saw 12 yr old with a doo rag … messing w/my car. Brakes might get cut,” he joked. “#BiebersAfterMe.” Related Artists Justin Bieber

Jessica Simpson On Working With ‘Dear Friend’ Billy Corgan

‘It was great to be able to collaborate with him,’ she says of Smashing Pumpkins frontman. By Jocelyn Vena Jessica Simpson Photo: MTV News Jessica Simpson worked with a seemingly unlikely collaborator on her new track “Who We Are,” the theme to her new docu-series, “The Price of Beauty” : Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan . “Billy is a dear friend of mine and I asked him to help out with arranging the song,” she told MTV News. “And he had some ideas to change it up a bit musically and some really cool arrangements and some great guitar things.” Simpson explained that working with Corgan, who came to the singer’s defense after John Mayer made explicit comments about her in a recent Playboy interview, really taught her a lot. “To be able to sit with Billy [is a learning experience], and I always feel comfortable with him ’cause he is a close friend of mine,” she said. “And I know he had my best interest at heart and it was great to be able to collaborate with him and to have him there in the studio.” The song embraces the show’s theme about loving the person you are . “I ended up writing the song with some friends and it was about all these places that I’d gone to and the experience that I had,” she said. “It’s about the beauty of who we are and embracing that and knowing that we are all authentic — that every single person is different,” she added. “But they all have something different about themselves that they need to discover.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Jessica Simpson Related Photos The Evolution Of: Jessica Simpson Related Artists Jessica Simpson Billy Corgan The Smashing Pumpkins
