Bruce Willis Is As ‘Kick-Ass’ As Ever In ‘Die Hard 5’

Producer Tom Rothman talks about John McClane’s return in the ’emotionally driven’ ‘A Good Day to Die Hard.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Bruce Willis in “Live Free Or Die Hard” Photo: Twentieth Century Fox One thing’s for sure when the next “Die Hard” flick hits theaters: Aging action stud John McClane is no worse for the wear and just as ready to rumble as he was back in 1988, when the first film hit theaters. With Bruce Willis back for the franchise’s fifth film, “A Good Day to Die Hard,” producer Tom Rothman has made it clear that the butt-kicking star is just as badass as ever. “[We’ve] started this week, just started. It’s all set in Russia,” he told MTV News at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. “Well there’s bookend scenes in New York, but it’s John McClane, goes to Russia and I think the technical term … is f—s everything up. And the fun part about it, though, is there’s a great moment where he says ‘It’s good a day as any to die.’ ” Sure, McClane is throwing about his signature swag in the film, but Rothman assures fans that the movie also has a lot of heart, courtesy of the relationship between McClane and his son, Jack (played by Jai Courtney). “He thinks his kid is a screw-up,” he explained. “But, in fact, it’s the opposite. The kid is more like the father than the father thinks. So it’s very, like all the best of the classic ‘Die Hards,’ very emotionally driven and very kick-ass.” Director John Moore of “Max Payne” and the “Omen” remake is set to helm “Die Hard 5” with Skip Woods penning the script. “A Good Day to Die Hard” is a follow-up to 2007’s “Live Free or Die Hard.” Check out everything we’ve got on “A Good Day to Die Hard.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com

Dick Clark Remembered By Mentee Ryan Seacrest On ‘American Idol’

‘He taught me how to do television,’ Seacrest says of his ‘dear friend’ and ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ co-host. By Jocelyn Vena Ryan Seacrest remembers Dick Clark on “American Idol” Photo: Getty Images On Wednesday night, just hours after the world learned that TV icon Dick Clark had passed away , his heir apparent Ryan Seacrest took to the “American Idol” stage to pay homage to his mentor and friend. “We can’t begin tonight’s show without acknowledging the passing of a television pioneer and my dear friend, Dick Clark,” he said at the top of the broadcast. “Without Dick, a show like this would not exist. He will be missed greatly.” Seacrest credited Clark’s groundbreaking work launching shows like “American Bandstand” as a predecessor for “Idol.” “Our thoughts and our prayers go out to his family,” he added. “I know that he’s in a better place, saying, ‘Hey, let’s get on with the show, OK?’ You got it, boss.” After the show, Seacrest noted that it wasn’t easy holding it together while hosting the show. Clark took the “Idol” host under his wing, and Seacrest had helped the legend host “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” since 2006. “This is a tremendously emotional day for so many people — fans of music, fans of television, broadcasters and certainly me personally, as Dick Clark was one of those incredible pioneers of our business,” Seacrest told reporters after the show. “He taught me how to do television. “I studied him as a kid, and I had the fortunate opportunity to work with him for several years on New Year’s Eve. And so I am sad and I am grateful for what he has given us, and certainly what he has given me. It was a tough night to do the show. I miss him, and there was nobody like him.” Another close friend of Clark’s, Jenny McCarthy, opened up about losing the TV legend. She had also worked with him on his annual New Year’s Eve bash and on the American Music Awards, which he helped create. “I feel honored to have worked with the legendary Dick Clark on the American Music Awards and New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. He was a great man who always encouraged everyone to give their best,” McCarthy said in a statement to MTV News. “He will be dearly missed and his spirit will be forever in my heart, especially counting down the minutes to midnight every New Year’s Eve to come.” Share your condolences for Clark’s family, friends and fans in the comments below.

‘RJ Berger’ Star Paul Iacono Comes Out

23-year-old actor opens up to The Village Voice about his sexuality and his new show, ‘Kenzie’s Scale.’ By Jocelyn Vena Paul Iacono Photo: Getty Images “The Hard Times of RJ Berger” star Paul Iacono took to Twitter on Wednesday to open up about his personal life, announcing to the Internet that he is gay. “Yes I’m gay,” he tweeted . “And yes, it does get better. #YOLO.” (#YOLO is short for “You Only Live Once.”) Iacono opened up about his decision to come out in an interview with The Village Voice, noting that while he does identify himself as gay, he believes that sexuality isn’t all that black and white. Yes I’m gay. And yes, it does get better. #YOLO — Paul Iacono (@paul_icon) April 11, 2012 “I didn’t think I’d be coming out. But why not now? I think it’s the right time to say something. It’s not about me, it’s about change and the work,” he explained in the interview, adding that his sexuality wasn’t always something he was comfortable talking about. “I grew up in a really old-school Italian traditional family in New Jersey. I tried coming out a couple of times as a kid, from 13-14 on, and was always squashed on,” he recalled, before noting that it then took years for him to open up to his family about it. “I was just coming to terms with the fact that I was bisexual, which culturally I do identify with as a gay man — I am attracted to girls, I’m just attracted to guys much more. I had to feign heterosexuality for a couple of years,” the 23-year-old explained. “It messed with my head. It took me a longer time to be OK with it. It was not until I was 18 that I came out with my mom and 20 with my dad. I was older and able to address it from a different perspective.” He now wants to explore those themes on his new show, “Kenzie’s Scale,” which is not only the name of a character on the show, but also a reference to the famed Heterosexual-Homosexual Rating Scale designed by Dr. Alfred Kinsey that places a person’s sexuality on a scale of one to six. “The whole reason we came up with ‘Kenzie’s Scale’ is to give young gays characters to look up to. … I didn’t have much to look up to as a kid,” he explained to The Village Voice. “I had to search to find like-minded images. I’m happy to be that person so kids won’t have to grow up and be afraid of their sexuality and this won’t be an issue.” The show follows a young couple, Cole (Iacono) and Kenzie, who continue to live together as roommates in New York City after Cole realizes he’s gay. Iacono described the show as a “radical young ‘Will & Grace.’ ” Related Videos It Gets Better

One Direction Offer A Lesson In British Slang

In preparation for U.S. tour, fans might want to learn ‘bird’ and ‘sithee.’ By Jocelyn Vena One Direction Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images One Direction will soon be embarking on their first-ever U.S. headlining tour . The British imports will take their mop-top, sunny pop tunes all across our great land. Before they hit the road, MTV News caught up with the fivesome in New York City, where they performed on “Saturday Night Live.” The guys revealed some key British slang terms American girls might want to learn to impress them. To get you in-the-know before your next One Direction concert, the guys broke down key phrases to use in conversation: “Trousers” are pants, per the guys, and a “jumper” is a sweater, and therefore possibly a good thing to wear with trousers. Louis Tomlinson said “fit” is a key word to describe an attractive person, explaining, “If a girl’s fit, she’s hot.” One Directioners might use “fit” to describe the “blokes” in 1D: “He’s a nice bloke,” Liam Payne said of the term for a guy. On the other end of the spectrum, Harry Styles let us in on a word for a special lady and romantic interest. “Quite slangy,” Harry explained, “but if someone was your girlfriend, you’d be like, ‘That’s my bird.’ ” And, finally, “sithee” means “see ya” or “goodbye.” That will be perhaps the hardest thing a Directioner will say to one of the guys if they should meet them during their outing this year. The tour will kick off May 24 in Fairfax, Virginia, as part of a North American tour set to wrap up July 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with stops along the way including Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Las Vegas. They are also set to take the stage at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden on December 3. The guys’ debut album, Up All Night , which features their lead single, “What Makes You Beautiful,” is out now. Share your favorite British slang in the comments below! Justin Bieber Says Believe ‘Definitely’ Has More Rapping

Of his rap alter ego Shawty Mane, who appears on ‘Boyfriend,’ Bieber tells MTV News, ‘It’s something that I love to do.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News When Justin Bieber dropped “Boyfriend,” he definitely channeled his rapper alter ego Shawty Mane on the verses, spewing lyrics like, “If I was your boyfriend, I’d never let you go/ I can take you places you ain’t never been before/ Baby take a chance or you’ll never ever know/ I got money in my hands that I’d really like to blow/ Swag swag swag, on you.” The song now has many fans wondering whether more rapping will appear on his upcoming album, Believe . When MTV News caught up with the teen star on the set of his “Boyfriend” video , he shared just how much rapping will make the final cut. “There’s not a lot of rapping on the album,” he said. “As people know, I’m a singer, and I don’t want to get people confused with that, but it’s something that I love to do, so you guys will definitely hear more of it.” Fans will also hear more rapping from Bieber’s pal Drake , who recently opened up about working with his friend on the release. “It sounds like everything you’d imagine a great Justin Bieber and Drake song would sound like,” the Take Care MC teased in an interview with Capital FM . Describing the process of making the track, he said he went about creating the song in a way he hadn’t done in the past. “We meet on the ground of melody. He’s always like, ‘Yo, your melodies are so crazy,’ and ‘Give me the craziest melody.’ So, we sat there for a night, and it was actually a great studio process,” Drake explained. “What we would do is he would go in the booth for 10 minutes, and he would hum melodies, and then he would walk out, and then I’d be like, ‘I like this one,’ and then I’d go in, and we started coaching each other and amping each other up.” Bieber also got a studio visit from Lil Wayne , but there’s been no word on whether the pair worked on any tracks for the album, dropping later this year. For anyone wondering if Bieber truly does have the swag to pull of those kinds of collaborations, “Boyfriend” writer/producer Mike Posner , who describes the song as “super hip-hop,” assures critics that Bieber has what it takes. “I think we’ve all known Justin since he was 13, and that’s not the kid I was in the studio with anymore,” Posner said. “He’s an 18-year-old. He skateboards with Lil Wayne and hangs out with Lil Twist. Those are his homeys. And he listens to hip-hop, and he’s a really cool kid. He’s not a corny guy.” Would you like to hear more rapping from Justin on Believe ? Tell us in the comments below! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Justin Bieber

Is Lauren Conrad Game For ‘Hills’ Reunion?

‘I did [reality TV] for as long as I could, then I kind of reclaimed my own life,’ ‘Fame Game’ author tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Lauren Conrad Photo: MTV News Lauren Conrad appeared on two of MTV’s biggest reality shows: “Laguna Beach” and, later, “The Hills.” While she introduced herself to the world on “Laguna,” it was her starring role on “The Hills” that helped launch her from small-screen starlet to full-on star and mogul. Conrad left “Hills” in 2009 to make room for former “Laguna” frenemy Kristin Cavallari to lead the charge on the show, but did return in 2010 to say goodbye to the series at the show’s finale event . With several years behind her, MTV News wondered whether she would ever consider a one-off reunion special. “I don’t know, because I catch up [with] anyone I still talk to from the show. I get to see [them] regularly anyway,” Conrad explained while in New York City on a book tour for her latest piece of fiction, “The Fame Game.” “So, that just happens on a Friday night, but it’s a game night at my apartment, which is so much more fun [than a reunion special].” Conrad also shared that any reality TV, at this moment, isn’t on her agenda. Though she had been in talks to star in a new MTV series in 2010 that would focus more on her work life, it never came together. These days, she’s focused on her work as a writer and fashion designer. “Not looking to at the moment,” she said. “I’m just really happy with where I left off. I think if you’re going to do a reality show, you have this obligation to share your life with people, and I did it for as long as I could, then I kind of reclaimed my own life. So, no plans to right now, but you never say never, and you always listen to ideas.” Would you like to see Lauren Conrad return to reality TV? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Taylor Lautner To Join Adam Sandler In ‘Grown Ups 2’

‘Twilight Saga’ star will take on ‘fun’ role in sequel to the hit 2010 comedy. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Lautner Photo: Jeff Kravitz/Film Magic If you’ve been itching to see Taylor Lautner flex his comedy chops more on the big screen, this news is for you. The “Twilight Saga” star has just nabbed a role in the sequel to 2010’s “Grown Ups,” according to The Hollywood Reporter . Lautner will join most of the original cast in the sequel including its leading man Adam Sandler, as well as Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Maya Rudolph and Salma Hayek. “Project X” star Oliver Cooper also recently joined the cast. Director Dennis Dugan will be back to helm “Grown Ups 2.” Sources say that the big-screen werewolf “will make an appearance in a ‘fun’ role, in which he goes toe-to-toe with Sandler.” The role marks a departure for Lautner, who previously angled more toward action-based blockbusters like the “Twilight” flicks and “Abduction,” which was a Stateside box-office dud but managed to gross $82 million worldwide. The first “Grown Ups” film earned $162 million domestically and $271 million worldwide. The film follows a group of friends who reunite as adults after their high school basketball coach dies. While no further production details about the film are being reported, Lautner does have a busy 2012 ahead of him. He’s set to work with Gus Van Sant in his next indie, the final “Twilight” film, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” opens in November and since mid-2011, he has been attached to the big-screen adaptation of the YA novel “Incarceron.” Lautner also recently dropped out of a starring role in “Stretch Armstrong” after being attached to that project for some time.
