Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen Get ‘Intimate’ For Duet

By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Carly Rae Jepsen at 2012 Spring Break Photo: MTV News Carly Rae Jepsen is poised to break out of the shadow out of label boss Justin Bieber , thanks to her catchy ode to flirting, “Call Me Maybe.” But that doesn’t mean she and the superstar are going their separate ways. Recently, the Canadian singer revealed that she and Bieber worked on a track together , and when MTV News caught up with her in Las Vegas at mtvU Spring Break , she teased a bit of what their team-up sounds like. “We collaborated on one song together, but in general, I was blown away by Justin,” Jepsen said. “He’s so down-to-earth and very charming and very talented. It’s still a little top-secret, but it’s going to be coming out soon, I hope. “Mum’s the word!” she added. “It’s a really lovely song. The way he presented it was pretty cool. It was my first time meeting him. I was at the studio, and he basically just said, ‘What do you think of this song?’ and I was like, ‘Wow, I love it.’ ” From there, the “Boyfriend” singer asked her to collaborate on it, and she happily accepted the offer. “It’s pretty stripped-down,” she said. “It’s pretty casual. It’s not too dance-y; it’s more intimate. It’s a duet.” While Jepsen is riding high off the success of “Call Me Maybe,” she is hard at work on her album, and she hopes to one day be able to help out another artist like Bieber did for her. “It’s hard to believe at the moment. It’s definitely a surreal life that I’m in right now, but I’m enjoying every second of it,” she said. “It’s pretty crazy. They say it’s called paying it forward [since Usher signed Bieber and then he signed me], so I’m gonna hope that I have the opportunity. That’d be pretty rad. “He’s such an inspiration,” she added. “No matter what his age, I think his career is really impressive. In an interview with the show’s correspondent, Christina Milian, Xtina opened up about her long-delayed next project, the follow-up to 2010’s Bionic, which spawned the single “Not Myself Tonight.” “My album, what’s going on with that?” she said. “Well, I started [it] whenever I started this show, and then [the show] kind of took off into this big thing. So the show used to be a side project [and it] kind of turned into a bigger time-fulfilling, dedicated project for me.” While Aguilera hasn’t released new material of her own in almost two years, she did make chart waves appearing alongside fellow “Voice” judge Adam Levine on the hit Maroon 5 single “Moves Like Jagger.” While that track leaned toward ’70s-style rock and pop, fans will have to wait until later this year to find out what sounds Aguilera will be channeling on this next album. Justin Bieber Drops New ‘Boyfriend’ Video Tease

Pop star experiences the elements in a second scintillating teaser for the much-anticipated clip. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber’s Boyfriend Photo: Walmart/ Island Justin Bieber shared a new teaser on Tuesday (April 3) for his highly anticipated “Boyfriend” video. He tweeted out the short tease days after he dropped the first tease on Friday. The new footage from the Colin Tilley-directed clip focuses on Bieber as he motionlessly floats underwater. Another shot from the blink-and-you-might-miss-it preview features the teen star, in a leather hoodie, standing in front of a burning tire swing. The first tease featured a shot of Bieber looking at the camera as ladies’ hands caress his face and chest. And that’s it. So, what does it all mean? Fans will have to wait until the video’s release to find out. When MTV News caught up with Bieber on the set of his “Boyfriend” video , he shared that the elements would play heavily into the theme of the video. “The concept of this video, I mean it’s not like a steady concept,” he said about the clip. “It’s not like ‘Justin follows this girl to this spot.’ No, it’s a bunch of amazing scenes: Like a fire scene, we have an ice scene. “It’s kind of like bouncing back and forth,” he said. “And then there’s scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It’s fun.” “Boyfriend” is the lead single off his forthcoming album, Believe, set for release later this year. It was produced by Mike Posner and Mason Levy. Anticipation for the album seems to be quite high. The song sold 520,000 downloads in its first week. What does that mean? Well, it places Bieber at #2 in all-time first-week singles sales, behind Flo Rida’s record-holder “Right Round,” which moved 636,000 units in its first week. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images Since first announcing she’d be starring in her own 3-D concert movie, “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” Katy Perry has kept fans in the loop about the film. In keeping with that routine, she’s just revealed the release date for the summer flick. “My concert documentary is coming out Fourth of July weekend. Go and see it and be a firework!” she told E! News at the Kids’ Choice Awards . The film was directed by Magical Elves Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, who also served as producers on Justin Bieber’s highly successful “Never Say Never” concert movie. “The atmosphere I grew up in was 100 percent church. I started singing and I never really had another plan,” she said in a TV spot that began airing over the weekend, which is also full of vintage, behind-the-scenes footage of the singer. After kicking it old-school, a montage of her music videos leads up to colorful concert footage of the singer from her California Dreams Tour. “If you have a dream, you have to go on a journey to fulfill that dream,” she says in the clip. The tease closes out with Perry dressed up as her “T.G.I.F.” alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry. “This film, you’re going to see it from my best friend/ buddy perspective, you’re going to see exactly what I mean and feel and think about everything,” Perry recently told MTV News . “Listen, I’ve [worked on] most of this film for a very long time and the word ‘cheap’ was not in the vocabulary,” she said. “But, hello, it’s 3-D. You’re going to get hit with a lot of sh–.” To add to the excitement for the movie, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were recently spotted shooting something that will appear in the film. “That tour was so life-changing to me. One Direction’s Super Saturdays: Kids’ Choice And ‘SNL’

The British boy band will take the stage this Saturday for the Kids’ Choice Awards , and next Saturday, they’ll be the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.” “We’re gonna be in L.A. for the Kids’ Choice Awards. We’re doing a big performance with that,” Niall Horan told MTV News about the annual Nickelodeon awards show. “Kids’ Choice is the biggest night on Nickelodeon, and all the big stars are going to be there, and when we found out it was just us and Katy Perry performing , we were like, ‘Geez, this is a big deal.’ ” Once they wrap up that gig, the guys will have a few days to prep for their “SNL” debut, another big moment that proves the chart-topping Brits are taking America by storm . “We obviously get American TV in the U.K., and I’ve watched ‘Saturday Night Live’ before … and ‘Saturday Night Live’ is a big, big deal, everyone knows that. And when we got invited on, we couldn’t believe it,” Horan said. “Again, we haven’t spent a lot of time here, so a lot of people don’t know who we are, so to be invited on such a prestigious American show is pretty amazing.” Horan said he’d love the chance to show off his funny side with “SNL” stars Kristin Wiig and Bill Hader, if given the chance. “We heard there could be a possibility [that] ‘Saturday Night Live’ comes with a skit. We’re up for it,” he said. “We’d love to do something like that. Usher’s Looking For Myself Due June 11

By Jocelyn Vena Usher Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images On his Diplo-produced slow jam, Usher took fans to the “Climax” and gave them and a sensually searing tease to his upcoming album, Looking for Myself. On Friday (March 30), Usher announced that along with Diplo, he also teamed up with Salaam Remi, Rico Love, Jim Jonsin and Max Martin on the album, due June 11. He’s expected to release both a standard and deluxe version of the album. Looking for Myself is the follow-up to 2010’s Raymond v. Raymond , which launched mega-singles like the ubiquitous will.i.am-produced “OMG,” as well as “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home),” “Lil Freak,” “There Goes My Baby” and “More.” He also maintained radio presence thanks to his inescapable collaboration with David Guetta, “Without You,” in 2011. “He has very specific ideas of where he wants to go musically and sound-wise,” “Without You” collaborator Taio Cruz told MTV News about Usher’s next release. “He always wants there to be the soul in there. I’m kind of, not the opposite, but I’m always like, ‘Let’s get straight to the point and be really clear with the message and be simple.’ So we try to match those two worlds together: being soulful and, at the same time, catchy,” Given their work on “Without You,” that may give fans an idea of what the twosome have up their sleeves for Looking For Myself. “I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I’ve actually been on in the last three years,” Usher said about that song and how it relates to his musical philosophy. “Traveling all around the world, music sounds different. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kelly Marino Heejun Han Photo: MTV News No joke: Heejun Han got the boot on Thursday night’s “American Idol,” bringing his odd, occasionally hilarious run to an end. And while his exit didn’t come as a shock to most, it was rather odd that it came on the heels of his best performance, a smooth take on Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You,” which earned him praise from the judges and a standing ovation from the studio audience. But if you think Han is taking all this personally, well, then you probably haven’t been paying attention to his antics. Because after his exit, he was all smiles, as MTV News found out firsthand. “I would be sad if I were to go home when I was [in the] top nine, top seven, top six — I would be so sad anyways,” he said. “But, you know, I’m just happy, because I finished really great, and I feel like I proved a lot of things to the world, so I’m kind of in an excited place, actually.” In typical Han fashion, he was still making the most of his time in the spotlight, using our microphone to praise his paramour, Jennifer Lopez — who seemed to be the lone judge determined to save him after he was voted off — and take a few joking swipes at frequent nemesis, mentor Jimmy Iovine. “Jennifer actually came up to me and said, ‘I really, really tried to save you, but they wouldn’t listen to me!’ and I said, ‘It’s OK, baby, it happens all the time.’ Those judges suck, but Jennifer is awesome,” he laughed. “[And] Jimmy Iovine needs to get himself a new pair of glasses and new hat, because he’s been wearing that for a fricking long time. No, Jimmy was a great mentor, I respect him a lot. I [just] hope I don’t see him anytime soon, because I’ve been talking a lot of crap about him.” While Han is slightly sad that his time on “Idol” is over, he said he has no regrets about anything he did on the show, mostly because he only auditioned to prove a point: that anyone can accomplish their goals if they put their mind to it. And he’ll continue spreading that message. “I started off this competition to prove to the world that, if you really believe in yourself, you can become someone regardless of who you are … and that’s what I did, that’s what I proved,” he said. “I never thought I could be a star or anything like that, and I’m not yet, but I want to take this chance to make something out of it, to prove to more people that you can become someone.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News While much of Justin Bieber ‘s “Boyfriend” video remains top-secret, MTV News scored a visit to the set Thursday night, and the teen superstar offered up some insight into what Beliebers will see when the clip drops. “The concept of this video, I mean it’s not like a steady concept,” he explained on the Cali-based set in between shots. “It’s not like ‘Justin follows this girl to this spot.’ No, it’s a bunch of amazing scenes: Like a fire scene, we have an ice scene.” He continued that the video will also include some of his very fine dancing skills. “It’s kind of like bouncing back and forth,” he said. “And then there’s scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It’s fun.” Bieber and Tilley have worked together several times in the past, including on the VMA-nominated “U Smile,” as well as “Never Let You Go,” “Fa La La” (with Boyz II Men) and Chris Brown’s very cinematic “Next 2 U,” which features Bieber. “The video’s really good. Colin has done a great job,” he said. “The lighting has been amazing and everything’s been so unique and I haven’t seen anything like it. So, I think people are going to be really surprised.” “Boyfriend” is the lead single off Believe, expected to drop later this year. 50 Cent Recruits Pauly D, Joan Rivers For Street King Campaign

By Jocelyn Vena 50 Cent Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — 50 Cent got some unusual help for his first Street King energy drink commercial. The mogul and rapper recruited “Jersey Shore” star Pauly D (who is signed to his G-Note record label ) and comedy legend Joan Rivers to help spread the gospel of the newest beverage on the block. The trio gathered at Planet Fitness in upper Manhattan to promote Street King, and MTV News was on hand as 50 and Rivers chewed scenery together. At one point, a caffeinated Rivers even used her feminine wiles to try to seduce the beefy MC. Did it work? Well, fans will have to see if he succumbs to her. Getting Rivers and Pauly onboard was all in the rapper’s master plan to get everyone interested in what he’s selling. “We[‘re] actually shooting the first commercial for my Street King project,” he dished in between takes. “It’s exciting, I got Joan Rivers here. I got Pauly D, a real oddball group. We felt like it would hit different targeted audiences.” However, it’s not just about selling drinks for profit. Fiddy is also using the product for a good cause. “When I developed the concept for this actual project, we thought about my experiences traveling in Africa,” he explained. “And I wanted to do something ’cause of how bad famine does in Africa.
