Rihanna, Nicki Minaj Get Flirty On ‘Fly’ Video Set

‘If we’re gonna liv 2gthr and hook up u gotta learn how 2 spell my name!’ Minaj jokes to Rihanna on Twitter. By Mawuse Ziegbe Nicki Minaj and Rihanna (file) Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Nicki Minaj and Rihanna prove that girls will be girls — even if they are platinum-selling, chart-topping megastar girls. The hitmaking ladies were filming the visual for the MC’s next single “Fly” over the weekend, and on Saturday the Barbadian-born songstress tweeted a photo of the two on set making sassy faces in full “Fly” girl regalia. In the picture Rihanna sports pin-straight, shoulder-length, crimson-and-burgundy locks, smoky eye makeup and a low-cut, black top as she leans on Nick’s shoulder. Minaj mugs for the camera rocking super-long false eyelashes with a swipe emerald-colored glitter on her lower lids and a pink bustier adorned with silvery spikes. “Me and Nikki in our new crib, lol! Gettin busy on set of FLY!!!” Rihanna wrote. “Its so hard to keep my hands off!” About an hour later Minaj laid down some guidelines for her new pretend paramour and roommate. “Lol. If we’re gonna liv 2gthr and hook up u gotta learn how 2 spell my name! Lmaooooooo,” she wrote . The Young Money raptress followed up with sly a disclaimer, lifting a line from her beastly Kanye West collabo “Monster,” writing, “Gossip Gossip ni#@a just stop it! :p.” Minaj spoke last week about teaming up with her “Fly” collaborator on the video set, and while she remained tight-lipped about the concept, she maintained that fans can expect a major clip to accompany the Pink Friday cut. “We’re shooting the video with Rihanna for ‘Fly’ this weekend,” Nicki told E! News on Thursday. “We’re going to save the world in more ways than one with the video, and that’s all I can say about that.” Perhaps Minaj was ready for any fresh remarks from Rihanna, as she playfully conceded the Loud songstress can get a little touchy-feely. “I love Ri Ri!” she gushed. “I mean, when she’s not grabbing my ass, she’s a sweet girl.” Are you excited to see Nicki Minaj and Rihanna in the “Fly” video? Petey Pablo Arrested At North Carolina Airport

Airport security found a weapon in the rapper’s luggage when he was reportedly on his way to VMAs. By Mawuse Ziegbe Petey Pablo (file) Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage Petey Pablo was arrested on Saturday (September 11) in North Carolina for allegedly trying to bring a weapon onto a flight. According to local news website WRAL.com , the rapper was arrested at around 6 a.m. at Raleigh-Durham International Airport after airport security found a Smith & Wesson 639 in his carry-on luggage. He was reportedly attempting to board a flight to Los Angeles for Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. The MC (born Moses Barrett III) was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. Pablo posted $50,000 bail and has a court date on Monday. The rapper reportedly gave out his CDs to jailers before he left. The arrest isn’t the rapper’s first run-in with the law. Before launching his music career, Pablo served six years of a 14-year prison sentence for selling drugs. Known for high-energy hits like “Freek-A-Leek,” Pablo kicked off a successful music career with the help of the Timbaland-produced “Raise Up” in 2001. His debut LP, Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Album, and the follow-up, Diary of a Sinner: 2nd Entry, debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 in 2004. The rapper also guested on Ciara’s debut single, “Goodies.” In 2005, Pablo teamed up with Death Row honcho Suge Knight for the album Same Eyez on Me. The Southern hitmaker’s partnership with the West Coast mogul was unexpected, but Pablo explained his views about their working relationship in an interview that year with MTV News. “If you accept what life is supposed to be, then there’s things that’ll happen in your life that you won’t fully understand until later on in life. But when the understanding comes at the end of the day, everything that you ever had questions about will be no more,” Pablo said. “What God put together, let no man take it apart.” Related Artists Petey Pablo

Big Boi Says Andre 3000 ‘Is In The Studio Right Now’

Outkast rapper teases the duo’s upcoming album during Labor Day show at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl: ‘Everything is all Gucci.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Big Boi Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage NEW YORK — Big Boi has been carrying the Outkast banner with pride even though the Atlanta duo’s last two projects — 2003’s bundled solos offering, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and 2006’s soundtrack collection, Idlewild — haven’t exactly been the best representations of the group as a unit. On Monday in New York City, Big Boi once again did his best to make up for his partner in rhyme’s absence when he hit Brooklyn Bowl for a Labor Day set. “[Andre 3000] is in the studio right now,” he told the crowd, explaining that after he finishes with his own solo project, the pair will reunite for a new Outkast album . But as Big Boi performed the group’s hits, mixing in tracks from his Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty , the usual elephant in the room was that Andre 3000 seemed as distant as the videos projecting Three Stacks’ image on the venue’s big screens. Still, Big Boi powered through his Outkast set list, running through his verses from “Miss Jackson,” “Player’s Ball” and “Elevators” all sans an audio peep from Dre. Big Boi was efficient in his performance, moving nimbly from song to song; no complaints from the audience about the one-man show. “It’s so many f—ing songs,” Big Boi told his DJ, Swift. “I don’t care what you play.” “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik” boomed through the house speakers, but Big Boi quickly moved onto material from his proper solo debut. “I know it’s been a minute,” Big said, in reference to the time between Idlewild and Sir Lucious Left Foot, which was released earlier this year after being stuck in limbo for a few years. “So just to give you some insight, we working,” he continued. “Everything is all Gucci. My thing is, I didn’t need to put out an album just because. It has to be about the music.” With that, Big kicked off “Shutterbuggg” , and the party officially began. “I keep it player while some choose to play it safe,” Big Boi rapped over the cascading beat. “Boy, check the r

Swizz Beatz Says ‘Pressure Was On’ For Kanye ‘Power’ Remix

‘When he made that announcement, we didn’t have what we had,’ Swizz reveals of ‘Ye’s on-air promise. By Jayson Rodriguez Swizz Beatz Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage Kanye West’s “Power” remix had just as much manpower on the record — ‘Ye, Jay-Z, John Legend, Swizz Beatz — as it did behind the scenes. According to Swizz Beatz, the studio sessions that ultimately led to the production of the number featured not only the aforementioned artists, but also input from Q-Tip, Mos Def and the Neptunes’ Pharrell Williams. “Just multiple combinations,” Swizz told MTV News on Monday (August 23). The MCs and producers were all working on each other’s albums as the “Power” remix was being put together. The pressure was on Kanye to deliver after the rapper announced in an interview with Angie Martinez on August 11 that a remix of “Power” featuring Jay-Z would be delivered by that Friday, August 13. “He definitely, definitely was focused,” Swizz said. ” ‘Cause when he made that announcement, we didn’t have what we had. But you know when something feels right and it’s time to let something to go. ” ‘Ye was trying to put it out the best way possible, to give it to the people,” Swizz explained of the delay that followed; the remix arrived a bit later than what Yeezy promised. “And then the day before, the last day, before the remix dropped, it just felt like the song needed to change up. I heard it changing up on something different, something that was already on the beat. And I was trying to explain it, but I didn’t want to go in too much because [Kanye] was writing his verse. But it sparked an idea.” Once work on the track was complete, though, there was little if any lag time from the studio to the airwaves. Swizz said that after they finished the three-part remix — one part Jay and ‘Ye ; one part a solo ‘Ye over slower music; and the third, Swizz’s contribution featuring Snap’s “I’ve Got the Power” — Funkmaster Flex had premiered the track on NY radio station Hot 97, before Swizz had even made it home from the studio. Drake’s ‘Fireworks’ Leaks Online

The Toronto MC raps ‘it wasn’t love’ with Rihanna, talks Lil Wayne and family on Thank Me Later track. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage “Fireworks,” the song that kicks off Drake’s forthcoming album , Thank Me Later, leaked online Wednesday (May 26). On it, the rapper touches on his rumored alliance with Rihanna , amid verses about Lil Wayne and his rocky relationship with his father. “I could tell it wasn’t love, / I just thought you’d f—ed with me/ Who could have predicted/ Lucky Strike would have you stuck with me,” Drake raps in the second verse, referring to the Manhattan bowling alley where the two reportedly made out. “Damn, I kept my wits about me, luckily/ What happened between us that night it always seems to trouble me/ Now all of a sudden, these gossip rags want to cover me/ And you making it seem like it happened that way because of me. “But I was curious,” he continues. “And I’ll never forget it, baby/ What an experience/ You could have been the one, but it wasn’t serious/ There was smoke in the air before/ That was me clearing it, that felt good.” The track was produced by Drake ‘s frequent collaborator Noah “40” Shebib and features Alicia Keys singing the hook. The rapper first began performing pieces of the song while on his current Away From Home Tour. Earlier this month, during the Los Angeles stop, he announced Keys would be featured on the number. The song begins with the lyrics, “money just changed everything,” picking up where he left off at the end of the So Far Gone EP’s “Fear.” The third verse finds Drake opening about his father, a Memphis studio musician who worked alongside the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, and whom he’s had a challenging relationship with; his parents split when he was only 5 years old. “Everything is the same, but it feels different/ My dad called me up knowing that I still listen,” the Toronto MC rhymes. “And he still got his foot out, guilt tripping/ It’s been years, thought I just learned to deal with it.” Drake spoke to MTV News in April about “Fireworks,” explaining why it would be the album’s kickoff. “The song itself is the first song on the album; I think it’s the biggest indicator of what the album is gonna be like,” Drake said. “That’s why I picked that song to go first, and that’s why I wrote the first verse like that. It’s really where I am in my life right now. I know they’re looking forward to the album, so I want them to get a feel of how the story starts off.” Does Drake make “Fireworks” on his new song? Lil Wayne’s ‘I’m Single’ Video Preview Leaves Fans ‘Hungry’ For More

‘This is almost tiding his fans over until he gets out,’ one fan tells MTV News. By Steven Roberts Lil Wayne Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage NEW YORK — Lil Wayne ‘s newest video, for “I’m Single,” premieres Sunday at noon ET on MTV Jams and MTV2’s “Sucker Free Countdown.” The song is one of the cuts featured on Wayne’s 2009 mixtape, No Ceilings , and the clip was directed by DJ Scoob Doo. The video is one of many clips Wayne filmed before heading off to serve a one-year prison sentence at New York’s Rikers Island for weapons charges. MTV News hit the streets of Times Square to show fans a sneak peek of the video and see if Wayne’s forward thinking will keep his fans satisfied. “Even though he is incarcerated, he’s still making music, he’s still out there, he’s still got music for his fans, he’s putting it out there, and I like it,” Deanna Brown said. “I think this is something different,” she added. “Even with other incarcerated rappers, everybody’s like, ‘Wait till they get out. Wait till they get out.’ And they can’t wait for that release. This is almost tiding his fans over until he gets out. It makes you even more hungry, like, ‘Ahh, if he’s doing this while he’s incarcerated, I can’t wait to see what happens when he gets out.’ ” Other fans echoed Brown’s sentiments. Jonathan Edmonston said fans will appreciate Wayne’s dedication while he’s behind bars. “It will capture the fans’ interest,” Edmonston said. “And it will just let his fans know that he’s there for them, he loves them. I just feel he’s reaching out to them.” Are you excited to see Lil Wayne’s new video? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Lil Wayne

Outkast’s Big Boi Reveals Andre 3000’s Expanded Role On Solo Project

‘Royal Flush’ and ‘Looking for You’ from Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty reunite the Outkast duo. By Jayson Rodriguez Big Boi Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Big Boi is inching closer to finally delivering his long-in-the-works solo project Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, now set for a May 4 release. The Outkast rapper previewed selections from the album to media on Monday, including the record’s first single, “Shutterbug.” The syncopated, funk-drenched number finds the flashy MC toasting festive club nights. “Now party people in the club, it’s time to cut a rug/ And throw your drinks in the sky just for the shutterbugs,” Big raps on the hook. “Shutterbug” is the latest in a string of Big Boi tracks to hit the airwaves. The long-delayed album failed to materialize after the release of other songs, including the Mary J. Blige-assisted “Sumthin’s Gotta Give” and “Royal Flush,” featuring Outkast partner Andre 3000. But all that seems about to change. In an interview with DJ Delz Big Boi revealed that Andre 3000 would be featured prominently throughout the Sir Lucious Left Foot project. The aforementioned “Royal Flush,” produced by Three Stacks himself, reunites the Outkast duo, as does “Looking for You,” produced by Boi-1da, perhaps best known for his work on Drake’s “Best I Ever Had.” “It’s me and Stacks, two verses a piece, back to back, lyrical manslaughter,” Big Boi said of the latter collaboration. “Who’s better than the ‘Kast? Nobody.” Next up, according to the pair’s plan , Andre 3000 will release a proper solo debut before the two come together again for an Outkast album, which will be their first since 2006’s Idlewild, the soundtrack to the movie of the same name. LL Cool J Says He Was ‘Misrepresented’ In Ads For Sarah Palin’s New Show

‘Fox lifted an old interview I gave in 2008 to someone else,’ LL tweets about commercials for ‘Real American Stories.’ By Shaheem Reid LL Cool J Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage LL Cool J took to his Twitter account to make it clear that despite the advertisements that make it seem otherwise, he is not going to appear on Sarah Palin’s “Real American Stories” show, set to debut on the Fox News Channel on Thursday (April 1). “Fox lifted an old interview I gave in 2008 to someone else & are misrepresenting to the public in order to promote Sarah Palin’s Show. WOW,” Uncle L tweeted . LL and Toby Keith were among the celebrities appearing in an advertisement for the new show that highlights individuals who have triumphed over adversity. On Wednesday, Cool J’s camp released a statement to MTV News further clarifying the rap legend’s stance. “Contrary to what was reported, LL Cool J was never scheduled to be a guest on ‘Real American Stories’ with Sarah Palin this week. The show had planned to use an interview from 2008 that was being repurposed without LL’s permission. This statement is not a reflection of any feelings LL has toward Fox News or Ms. Palin, whom he has never met, rather a clarification of what we have seen published in the media.” In a statement sent to the New York Times , Fox News said they decided to edit LL out of the show. “‘Real American Stories’ features uplifting tales about overcoming adversity and we believe Mr. Smith’s interview fit that criteria,” Fox said in the statement. “However, as it appears that Mr. Smith does not want to be associated with a program that could serve as an inspiration to others, we are cutting his interview from the special and wish him the best with his fledgling acting career.” Will you watch Sarah Palin’s new show?
