Teen Mom 2 Season Finale Recap: Rehab, Cheating, Divorce and Heartbreak

Teen Mom 2 closed out its second season with a bang last night. Someone cheated, someone broke up their relationship (and household) for good, someone came back from rehab and someone got back together with their ex. If you saw last week , and the week before that, you pretty much know who we’re referring to in each case, but that didn’t make it any less surprising to watch. Let’s get to it and break down the antics of Jenelle Evans, Leah Messer, Chelsea Houska and Kailyn Lowry our Teen Mom 2 season finale recap, THG +/- style! Jenelle Evans heads off to rehab in Malibu, California. Plus 19 . That place must be really affordable. It’s apparently run by hunks, once of which picks up Jenelle to take her to the facility. She remarks that she’s never “been so upset, anxious and depressed” in her life. Debbie Downer much? Minus 10 . We kid. She’s obviously there for a reason. Asked why she came, Jenelle explains that “Weed is not really a problem for me. The only problem with it is I’m not allowed to smoke.” Plus 15 for such an obvious, defiant stoner comment. She takes a drug test that turns up positive for THC. Minus 20 . A psychologist learns that Jenelle’s brother (who we know even less about than her baby daddy) has bipolar schizophrenia. The doctor feels Jenelle may be bipolar as well, and he treats her with anxiety meds. She’s surprisingly receptive. Plus 24 . Asked how she’d describe herself, she says “impulsive, smart and angry.” Asked what she wants to be, she says: “happy, more caring and affectionate.” Plus 13 . After two weeks, she’s allowed to use her computer and cell phone, and Kieffer immediately guilt tips her. Mercifully, Jenelle’s completely immune. Plus 17 . “Why don’t you let me focus on myself while I’m here?” she asks. “I’m gonna move on,” Kieffer replies. Hopefully he meant move on off a cliff. Plus 27 . Face Tahm with Bahhbrahh!!! Plus 19 . Their reunion is almost touching. We know Jenelle has had tons more troubles since this episode, but she really seems like she’s trying. A little. Right? Minus 10 . Kailyn Lowry can’t stop thinking about Jo, with whom “Things went further than they should have.” At least she doesn’t totally kiss/boink and tell. Plus 8 . Jo has no such filter, telling his bro: “We got Isaac to sleep … and we ended up having sex in the shower.” Plus 12 , because he is an aspiring rapper and all. Kailyn sort of confesses to Jordan: “I just started to have feelings for Jo again. It makes life so much harder. Why do I put myself in these positions.” You mean the position where you were bent over in the shower? Minus 19 . Minus 28 more for turning around the argument on Jordan, saying he can’t understand the bond a mother has with her child’s father. Girl, please. His final words: “I hope you can live with yourself.” Ouch. Plus 17 . When she confronts Jo, he bluntly says, “I’m not sitting here, trying to settle down. I’m just living my life. This is bad timing.” Ouch again, Kails. Now, the tears she did not shed for Jordan come on hard. Minus 13 . Chelsea Houska is focused on her GED, but decides she needs a break, which entails going to a car show her awful ex will probably be at! Yay? Minus 9 . Naturally, Adam is in fact there. “How long is it going to take before I can see him and not get sad?” Chelsea asked her mom. Here we go … Minus 7 . Chelsea passes her GED flying colors! “Did you bomb?” Randy asks. LOL. Plus 20 . When Adam shows up to to hold Aubree, she panics and cries. Figures. Plus 12 . He asks Chelsea if she’d like to take a drive, and it’s pretty obvious she will walk over broken glass if this loser shows a hint of interest, which is sad. Minus 39 . Later, she rides off into the sunset on the back of his black motorcycle. Neither her head nor her heart is safe at this point, and it’s disappointing. Minus 11 . Leah Messer and Corey Simms are splitting up. This was obvious when he came across the section of the paper that lists everyone who filed. Minus 20 . That’s located next to the Gun Permits column. Plus 12 . He’s shocked, or at least feigning it for the cameras, that Leah went through with this. He takes off his ring slowly, despondently for effect. Plus 18 . As Leah and her mom discuss Leah’s future, her mom decides it’s a good time to take out the wedding photos that finally came in the mail! Uhh, Minus 7 . When Leah heads to the lawyer’s office to drop Aleeah and Ali off with Corey, she breaks down. The first night of loneliness is more than she can take. “This is a marriage that’s led to a divorce,” she says. DEEP. Minus 10 . There’s nothing positive about their home being physically wrecked, or at least divided up and moved out. They both cry a lot. It’s depressing. Minus 25 . EPISODE TOTAL: +5! SEASON TOTAL: +48!

Teen Mom 2 Recap: Leah Messer Admits Cheating on Corey Simms; Kailyn Lowry & Jo Rivera Hook Up!

It was girls gone WILD night on Teen Mom 2 apparently. Leah Messer admitted cheating on Corey Simms, again, while Kailyn Lowry, easily the most pulled-together of the bunch, did a little messing around on her own. As we saw last week , and the week before that, Leah and Corey’s relationship has been coming apart at the seams. Kailyn and Jordan, though, seemed solid. To find out what went down Tuesday night with these two, as well as Jenelle and Chelsea, let’s get down to business in our Teen Mom 2 recap, THG +/- style! Leah Messer and Corey Simms have been on the rocks, and we know they’re already divorced in real life, which is now about a year removed from these episodes. Still, Leah’s tearful confession that she hooked up with Robbie – her first love, who you may remember from 16 & Pregnant – was a bit of a shocker. Minus 11 . “I just don’t know if I can get past cheating this time,” Corey said, subtitled of course. “The past three years I’ve been hurt more than in my whole life.” Which is like 19 years, but still, we get the point. Not cool Leah. Minus 19 . Her face streaked by tears, mascara and eye shadow, Leah says, “You deserve someone that’s gonna appreciate everything you do.” Aww, the time-honored it’s-not-you-it’s me defense … after she slept with Robbie. Minus 20 . “That’s why it’s so hard, because I want it to be you,” Corey cried. “But you won’t do it.” Blam. He’s no prize himself, but hard not to feel for the guy here. Plus 10 . Corey’s dad, Jeff, is not surprised when his son breaks the bad news. “I can only guess who,” he says, and supports his son decision to get a divorce. Plus 5 . “You put up with a lot to keep your family together. Every time she goes down the road to go tanning or whatever, you’re always in the back of your mind gonna wonder … if she’s going to meet somebody else.” – Jeff. Sage words. Plus 10 . Corey texts Leah to let her know he’s hired a lawyer. Worried about custody, Leah decides to consult her own and files first. And so it ends. Minus 65 . Kailyn Lowry and Jo Rivera had been doing a surprisingly good job at co-parenting despite their differences. Plus 15 , for always putting Isaac first. Since on weekends he’s off “doing his thing” (fostering his music career), Jo requests a midweek custody visit with Isaac … at Kailyn’s house. Uh-oh. Jordan’s sweetly akward bro-hug with Jo last week couldn’t stop him from getting a “bad feeling about the weekday visits,” and for good reason. Plus 10 . Kailyn accidentally (or not accidentally) said “love you” in mid-goodbye kiss to Jo. That is what we call a Freudian slip … or something. Either way, Minus 15 . Jo reassured Kailyn that he’s dropping his child support appeal. Plus 40 . In weekday custody visit #2, Isaac’s mom and dad went to the bedroom and shut the door on the cameras. Uhh. Plus 30 for not seeing that one coming. Poor Jordan, he’s such a good-seeming guy too. Minus 15 . At least we know that Kailyn’s IUD is firmly up in there. Plus 10 . Chelsea Houska is now the Teen Mom 2 role model, apparently! She’s doing so well at Year Round Brown, and we don’t just mean that she’s brown. But she is. In South Dakota. It’s a little ridiculous. Minus 5 . Adam accuses his ex of being a “f–king child” and telling her to “f–king grow up already, but Adam sucks, and Chelsea’s matured a lot, so Plus 20 . Just don’t fail the GED exam, okay? You know it can happen. Minus 5 . “I never thought I’d get checks from you,” said Randy, dad and landlord, after getting his first check from his daughter, who’s pulling it together. Plus 10 . Think she has personal checks in leopard print? Plus 5 . Chelsea wants to give Aubree “something for her to look up to” and she’s doing a heck of a job … at least until next week’s finale. Adam swooning returns. Minus 30 . Jenelle Evans acknowledges that jail may be worse than smoking pot, dating Kieffer Delp and fighting her friends. Self-awareness is the first step. Plus 10 . After the obligatory screaming of profanities at each other over Jace, Jenelle and Barbara share a tender moment about rehab. Aww. You guys. Plus 5 . “I just want you to get better. I know it’s very much a struggle, so let’s get you somewhere and get you some help,” Barbara says, comforting her troubled daughter as she makes arrangements to head to rehab in California. Plus 5 . Minus 15 for all Jenelle’s legal issues SINCE then, but still, a nice sentiment. “I’ll miss you,” Barbara says. “I won’t miss the drama – but get better.” Oh, Babs. Plus 20 . EPISODE TOTAL: +15! SEASON TOTAL: +43!

‘Chronicle’ Rooted In ‘Complete Reality,’ Stars Say

‘It’s a movie about what would actually happen if teenagers got superpowers,’ Dane DeHaan tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Dane DeHaan in “Chronicle” Photo: Alan Markfield/ 20th Century Fox In the buzzworthy action/drama hybrid “Chronicle,” out Friday, three friends’ lives are forever changed when they encounter an otherworldly substance and structure that somehow gives them extraordinary abilities. The movie is shot mostly via the “found footage” or “POV” format and revolves around high school students Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Matt (Alex Russell) and Steve (Michael B. Jordan). When MTV News caught up with the three stars of the film recently, we asked them to explain how “Chronicle” is different from every other superpower and found-footage film out there. “It’s a movie about what would actually happen if teenagers got superpowers,” DeHaan said. “And I think that, for the first time, it deals with that issue in modern day in complete reality, which is the person who gets the superpowers probably won’t be the best person in the world and only want to save other people in the world from their problems.” “From the beginning, you’re invested in Andrew and Steve and Matt,” Jordan added. “It’s not just, ‘What monster is going to be popping out of this building?’ You really follow the characters throughout the movie and care what happens to them.” Because the audience spends so much time getting to know the three main characters, Russell said it makes for an especially intense thrill ride when the boys discover just how powerful they are and things start to spiral out of control. “It’s action-packed, it’s incredible in that way, but it in no way relies on that,” Russell said of the film’s impressive effects and aerial stunt work. “The characters are very layered, the relationships are complex and beautiful, and something you get really invested in it, and I think that makes it hit home so much harder when things start to go awry.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Chronicle.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘I Just Want My Pants Back’ Cast Calls ‘Jersey Shore’ ‘A Great Show’

‘Pants Back’ cast throws a party in Brooklyn to celebrate the show’s much-anticipated premiere on February 2. By Jocelyn Vena Peter Vack and Kim Shaw Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — On Thursday night, the cast of MTV’s latest scripted comedy, “I Just Want My Pants Back,” gathered at the Public Assembly in Brooklyn, where they not only celebrated the show’s imminent arrival, but also got to hang out with their Thursday night cohorts, the cast of the “Jersey Shore.” The pilot for the series originally got some love when it made its debut after the VMAs in August, and now it will officially kick off its run next Thursday. The cast, it seems, can’t wait to finally have it on air. “At last! I know everyone’s been asking,” Jordan Carlos joked to MTV News about the long-simmering delay. “My parents can finally get off my back; it’s real. It’ll be on on Groundhog Day, which happens to be my birthday as well.” “We’ve been seeing the commercials for the show for years now,” Sunkrish Bala teased. “Slow burn, but it’s all coming to a beautiful conclusion right now.” “It feels so crazy to be here right now,” co-star Kim Shaw said. “We wanted people to see it at the VMAs to give people a taste of what we were filming, and now that we’re finished with the series, we’re so excited that everyone gets to see the whole thing.” Having already had one very high-profile premiere, it seems that next week it will get one more thanks to the “Jersey Shore” as its lead-in. “It’s awesome,” Elisabeth Hower said. “The fact that the network has so much confidence around us really means a lot, and I think that says a lot about the show. Please watch the show. We’re nice people.” “It’s an amazing lead-in,” said Peter Vack, leading man of “Pants Back.” ” ‘Jersey Shore’ is a great show.” While “Jersey Shore” and “Pants Back” may seem like different shows on the surface — one’s scripted, one’s a reality show; one’s about hipsters, one’s about guidos — they both deal with a group of friends navigating their love lives. “Pants Back” follows a group of twentysomethings in New York City as they pilot love, friendship and the job market with a good dose of dirty humor and some heart thrown in for good measure. “The show just goes so many fun places,” Vack teased. “It’s just a crazy ride, and I’m excited for people to take the ride with us.” “Pants Back” premieres on February 2 at 11 P.M. ET/PT right after “Jersey Shore.” Are you excited for “I Just Want My Pants Back”? Let us know in the comments section! Help Movieline Caption The Collision of Twilight and the Golden Girls at the People’s Choice Awards

Let’s be honest: Nobody watches the People’s Choice Awards for the actual awards. As awards season proper kicks off it’s a populist popularity contest, a loose warm-up to this weekend’s Golden Globes, a pit stop on the tour of red carpet photo ops for celebrities and TV stars and actors with upcoming movies to pimp. But events like this give us lovely little gifts, random social snapshots that peek behind the curtain of celebrity. Last night they gave us Hunger Games tingles. Cute coupledom. And, perhaps best of all, Robert Pattinson having a ball with Betty White . Who was the genius People’s Choice Awards planner that seated Pattinson next to the erstwhile Golden Girl in the front row? What did the Twilight star and the bubbly octogenarian have to talk about during commercial breaks? (Perhaps this ?) Could the casualwear-clad Pattinson have looked any more like a kid tagging along with his grandma to a fancy dinner for grownups? WHAT DID BETTY THINK OF RPATTZ’S NEW HAIRCUT?? I kid, I kid. It’s the single most adorable photo to come from last night and I love thinking that the two became instant besties and exchanged cell numbers on the spot. This stuff doesn’t happen at the Oscars, folks. Help me celebrate this moment in time with your captioning skills in the comments below! Photo: Getty Images

REVIEW: Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton Can’t Cut Through the Static of Joyful Noise

The idea of seeing Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton in a movie together, not to mention a movie about a gospel choir, is a particular kind of heaven. Latifah is a radiant performer capable of elevating even the most mundane material to a level of charm and grace unachievable by most mere mortals. And Parton, aside from having one of the sweetest and most haunting voices in all of country music, is a firecracker presence by herself — if you could bottle force of will in a perfume bottle, you couldn’t name it anything but Dolly. But whatever Latifah and Parton might have achieved together in that mythical heavenly ideal, it’s just not coming together in this lifetime – or at least not in Joyful Noise , a well-intentioned, pleasant-enough picture that shoots off in too many directions to ever ignite. Latifah plays Vi Rose Hill, a sturdy, no-nonsense family woman who inherits the leadership of her church choir after the death of its beloved director (played, in just a few tiny scenes, by Kris Kristofferson). But this is a very small town we’re talking about — Pacashau, Georgia, pop. 233, or something like that — and petty rivalries and resentments abound. It turns out that G.G. Sparrow (Parton), who has contributed heaps of money to the church and who’s also a leading (and undeniably shapely) figure in its Divinity Church Choir, thinks she should inherit the mantle. She has some new ideas for the group, which she wants to implement before the all-important National Joyful Noise Competition. Vi Rose, a traditionalist, likes to do things the old-fashioned way. The two women start trading insults and play-fighting even before it becomes apparent that G.G.’s rapscallion grandson, Randy (Jeremy Jordan), who has just drifted into town from New York City, is madly attracted to Vi Rose’s daughter, Olivia (Keke Palmer), the choir’s obvious rising young star. Actually, there’s a new conflict every five minutes in Joyful Noise : It’s pretty much all writer-director Todd Graff ( Bandslam ) can do to tamp each one down, Whac-a-Mole style, before another one pops up. Vi Rose doesn’t much approve of Randy, until he takes her pop-music-loving, Asperger’s-afflicted son, Walter (Dexter Darden), under his wing. (Walter’s favorite song is the Left Banke’s Walk Away Renee , and if you’re going to have just one favorite, that’s not a bad one to have.) Randy, you see, is an ace pianist and arranger, and he also has some ideas for spiffing up the choir’s material and moves. Meanwhile, Olivia starts acting up, as young ‘uns will. And don’t look now, but a rival for her affections (Paul Woolfolk) is just about to show up at the local quarry, where Randy and Walter have gone to practice their vocals (it makes a handy echo chamber). That could be big trouble. And yet, somehow, it’s really not. There’s so much going on in Joyful Noise that there doesn’t seem to be much time for anyone to actually sing. Still, the gang manages to squeeze some in. Many of the numbers are pop songs reimagined as gospel material, some making the transition with ease (like Sly Stone’s “I Want to Take You Higher”) and others (“Maybe I’m Amazed”) that, no matter how you slice them — or tweak the lyrics — still sound like secular love songs rather than hymns of praise. One of the loveliest numbers is Latifah’s spare rendition of “Fix Me, Jesus”: It’s plain and unvarnished, in a way that too much of Joyful Noise isn’t. Parton sings a duet with Kristofferson (he returns from the grave specifically for this purpose), called “From Here to the Moon and Back,” which is pretty enough in its serene, wistful way. But even though there’s so much going on in Joyful Noise , there still isn’t much for its two stars to do other than trade one-liners masquerading as small-town insults. (Observing G.G.’s superblond tousle of hair, Vi Rose snickers, “What, you’re worried you’re not gonna be seen from space?”) Parton and Latifah are both high-spirited all right, and their sparring is reasonably fun to watch. But Parton’s face, as those of us who have loved her for years, is not what it used to be, and looking at it is a bit disconcerting. Latifah, on the other hand, looks as luminous as ever. As performers, the two clearly have a great deal of respect and admiration for each other, and that’s the motor that drives Joyful Noise . But movies need more than just good mechanics, or even just good chemistry, to bloom. They always need at least a scrap of divine intervention. And on that count, Joyful Noise could still use a little fixing from Jesus. Follow Stephanie Zacharek on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
