Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Green Lantern’ Costume Revealed

DC Comics superhero makes his glowing debut on Entertainment Weekly. By Eric Ditzian Ryan Reynolds on the July 16 cover of Entertainment Weekly Photo: Entertainment Weekly For Ryan Reynolds, the most professionally satisfying moment of 2009 was the first time he saw the Green Lantern costume he’d be rocking for the upcoming big screen adaptation of the classic DC Comics superhero. “It was a moment when I was like, ‘This is happening, and it’s happening in the right way,’ ” Reynolds told MTV News last fall. “That’s a pretty cool, definitive moment for me.” Now the rest of us are getting a chance to see the costume that blew Reynolds’ mind. Entertainment Weekly has debuted a first look at the Green Lantern — and his test-pilot alter ego, Hal Jordan — who will be gracing multiplexes in the summer of 2011. The cover image shows Reynolds in familiar Lantern garb, complete with green mask, glowing green suit and iconic power ring, which can bring into existence nearly anything Hal can imagine. “Will and imagination are his superpowers,” said Reynolds, who reportedly injured his shoulder on the “Green Lantern” set earlier this week. “We need a circus of Timothy Learys to think of things Hal would invent with his ring.” Though experienced in the action movie realm, from “Blade: Trinity” to “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” Reynolds confessed that nothing could prepare him for the wire-work involved in the “Green Lantern” shoot, which required him to fly through the air at up to 60 feet per second to simulate the illusion of real flight. “The first time you do it, you’re seriously considering an adult diaper,” Reynolds said. Directed by Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”) and co-starring Tim Robbins, Blake Lively, Mark Strong and Peter Sarsgaard, the movie is set to hit theaters on June 17, 2011. In MTV News’ earlier conversation with Reynolds, he heaped praise on Campbell’s vision for the film. “When you have a guy like Martin Campbell, part of his charm is that he has ba–s of titanium, and the other part is that he’s slightly crazy, and you have to be to take on something with the scope of ‘Green Lantern,’ ” he said. “I sat down with him, and I could not even believe what he was saying. When I went to the meeting, I was entirely cynical. I thought, ‘What the hell, I’ll see what they have to say,’ and I left the room with a completely different perspective.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

‘The Hills’ Star Justin Bobby Was A ‘Genius’ Hairstylist, Adam Levine Says

‘One day, mid-cut, he was like, ‘So I think I’m going to do this show,’ ‘ the Maroon 5 frontman recalls to MTV News. By James Montgomery Justin Bobby and Audrina Patridge Photo: Jordan Strauss/ Getty Images Back before he was the slouchy philosopher dude with questionable facial hair on “The Hills” — who could forget his sage-like proclamation that “Truth and time will tell all?” — Justin Bobby was better known as Justin Brescia, hairstylist to the stars. And back then, he counted among his clients the gentlemen of Maroon 5 , who were, needless to say, rather amazed by his hairstyling abilities. Like, really amazed, as they told us earlier this month in New York. With the series finale of “The Hills” upon us, we decided to share their revelations with you now. “His name is Justin Brescia … somehow he became Justin Bobby,” M5 frontman Adam Levine said. “I don’t know quite how to say this — I’ve got to say this delicately — but the man is the most incredible hairstylist ever. He really is. Justin, you’re a genius,” he laughed. “He cut all our hair for a long time, and then one day, mid-cut, he was like, ‘So I think I’m going to do this show,’ and it was called ‘The Hills.’ And now he’s quit cutting hair and he’s on the show and he’s a big star, I guess.” But aside from having Brescia cut their hair, the guys in Maroon 5 remain rather blissfully unattached to the entire “Hills” phenomenon (“That’s about as close as I get to that whole … uh, thing,” Levine smiled). So they weren’t exactly aware that the show was coming to an end. But they were excited by the news, mostly because it meant they might be getting their old stylist back. “The guy was like Edward Scissorhands … he even has scissors tattooed on his arm,” Levine said. “He was really passionate about cutting hair, he was like a sculptor. I know it sounds crazy, but the dude is a monster.” Well, what are the odds of getting Brescia back? Levine thought about it for a second, smiled, and then provided an answer straight out of the Justin Bobby book of philosophy. “I don’t know,” he laughed. “Only truth and time will tell, bro.” What do you think Justin Bobby’s next act should be? Should he go back to cutting hair post-“Hills”? Tell us in the comments! Join MTVNews.com on Tuesday, July 13, at 8 p.m. ET for a live stream from the red carpet of Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel, where the stars will gather for “The Hills Live: A Hollywood Ending.” Then tune in for the series finale at 10 p.m. ET on MTV and “The Hills Live: A Hollywood Ending After Show” at 11. LeBron James’ Move To Miami Heat Prompts Reactions From Hip-Hop Community

Ludacris, Soulja Boy, Diddy, Fabolous and others take to Twitter over King James’ career choice. By Mawuse Ziegbe LeBron James announces he will play for the Miami Heat on Thursday Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images Basketball fans around the country reacted strongly when LeBron James finally dropped the news last night that he was signing with the Miami Heat after frenzied speculation about the NBA MVP’s next move. Hip-hop’s basketball fans took to Twitter in droves to vent, lament and crack jokes about King James’ decision. Teflon Don Rick Ross tweeted “Miami the spotlight of the world!!!!!” which was later re-tweeted by fellow Miami MC Trina. “Pretty Boy Swag” rapper Soulja Boy Tell’em offered a simple Twitter message about the ‘Bron hubbub, tweeting “Lebron James Swag.” Even glitzy ’90s rapper MC Hammer enthusiastically chimed in with “LeBron signs with the HEAT !!!!” Diddy , like many New Yorkers, had been hoping James would come to Gotham and wrote on his Twitter page, “Lebron will sign with the knicks! Yea I said it!” But an hour later, the party-startin’ mogul seemed at peace with ‘Bron’s finale choice and tweeted, “ok i can handle Miami!!! its my second home!!!! lets go!!!!!!” Queens MC Q-Tip approved of James’ choice and typed on Friday (July 9), “I think @kingjames made the right decision.” Rumors had been swirling that James would possibly go to a Chicago, New York or New Jersey team, so not everyone was geeked about ‘Bron heading down south. “Miami???!!!! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” ?uestlove of the Roots said in an impassioned tweet. Some MCs offered their sympathies to fans of James’ former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. D.C. MC Wale , who called the MVP’s choice earlier in the night, tweeting, “Miami…I bet,” followed up his prediction an hour later with a comforting note for Cleveland: “Seriously feel bad for cavs fans.” Ludacris offered something a little stronger for Cavs fans , tweeting, “Conjure [cognac] is on deck in Cleveland just in case anybody feel like gettin f—ed up tonight.” Others typed their thoughts about how James’ move would affect the Heat. Dallas rapper Dorrough tweeted , “LeBron James and DeWayne Wade is Like Jordan and Kobe on the same team. I dont think its gon work.” ATL songstress Ciara tweeted “Looks [like] Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets next year!” likely referencing a possible showdown between Miami and Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony. As fans eagerly anticipated James’ announcement last night, one artist took the opportunity to mine some humor out of the situation. Brooklyn MC Fabolous , who is known for his punchy one-liners, started the trending topic #JustOfferedLebron, which resulted in tweets like, “The Nets #JustOfferedLebron a Best of Both Worlds 3 album wit JayZ if he signs,” and “BP #JustOfferedLebron free gas for life if he continues to take all the attention off the oil spill.” Related Photos LeBron James’ New Neighbors In Miami LeBron James’ Big Night

Leonardo DiCaprio May Reteam With Ridley Scott On Wall Street Movie

Long in the works ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ adaptation would be produced by Martin Scorsese. By Eric Ditzian Leonardo DiCaprio Photo: Jim Spellman/ WireImage Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese had been trying to bring an adaptation of Jordan Belfort’s tell-all memoir, “The Wolf of Wall Street,” to the big screen since early in 2007. Scorsese was set to direct, and Leo would play Belfort, a New York stockbroker who landed in prison for refusing to cooperate in a 1990s securities fraud case. “Sopranos” scribe Terence Winter came onboard to pen the screenplay. But the project stalled, and DiCaprio and Scorsese went off to make “Shutter Island.” Now the film is getting another shot, Deadline New York reports, and director Ridley Scott is in early discussions to helm “Wolf.” DiCaprio, who worked with Scott on 2008’s “Body of Lies,” would remain in the starring role and Scorsese would shift into the role of a producer. The film would reportedly be similar to DiCaprio’s “Catch Me If You Can” in terms of storytelling, as “Wolf” would focus on Belfort’s relationship with an FBI agent who tries to convert him into an informant. According to Deadline, all involved still love Winter’s script. “It is funny, dramatic and fast paced, and manages to make something of a sympathetic character out of a stockbroker who supervises a cadre of brokers who squeezed clients to buy stocks that paid off — for the brokers, who used the funds to live extravagantly until they were brought down by the feds,” Deadline’s Mike Fleming wrote. The only thing standing in the way of production is scheduling. Scott is plowing ahead on his 3-D “Alien” prequel and DiCaprio’s next role is “Hoover,” the biopic directed by Clint Eastwood. U.S. Oil Reponse is literally "Sketchy"!

” It could be one of the sloppiest engineering plans the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has ever seen—a hand-drawn plan illustrating how engineers would fill in a channel in Dauphin Island to prevent oil from reaching sensitive wetlands. The corps posted the permit application and asked for comment from agencies and public in just a few hours. The project could be a good idea, scientists say, but it's hard to tell given the rough plans, and it's equally hard to have confidence in such a quick evaluation. “It's very symptomatic of this whole episode,” says George Crozier of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, referring to the Deepwater Horizon leak. “There is a lot of panic and uncertainty.” But federal agencies evaluating the project say they have enough expertise to evaluate the risk of problems, such as whether the project might cause erosion problems or harm endangered species. Over the last decade, hurricanes have cut a wide channel through Dauphin Island, a 23-kilometer-long barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico. After the Deepwater Horizon accident, the Dauphin Island Restoration Task Force and other groups asked the Governor of Alabama to fill in the channel so that oil can't pass through and enter Mississippi Sound. Much about the proposal remains unclear. The official applicant for the USACE permit to fill the gap is BP, which did not return calls. Observers suspect that the Governor's office asked the Alabama Department of Environmental Management to draft the permit application, but ADEM spokesperson Scott Hughes could not confirm this. “The Department's role is to ensure that any permit issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is consistent with the requirements of Alabama's coastal program,” he writes in an e-mail. Another mystery is who created the drawings. One of them, simply initialed “C.J.”, has a Post-it note covering up letterhead for Jordan Pile Driving in Mobile, Alabama. D. S. Jordan, the chairperson of the company, says he received drawings from Thompson Engineering in Mobile. The project manager there couldn't be reached. The plans first became public on 27 May, when USACE posted them on its Web site in the morning. One option described in the proposal is to block the 2.2-kilometer-wide channel with sheet piling. The other option is to drop in 76,000 cubic meters of rock. Either measure would be removed within a year. USACE asked for comments on two options by 3 p.m. the same day. Coastal geologist Robert Young of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, says he was stunned by the short deadline. Young, who says he often comments on permit applications for coastal engineering projects, only came across the proposal later that evening. “This makes me wonder how many of these emergency permits are out there that I haven't seen.” Young and other experts were also flabbergasted by the rough plans. “They're done by hand on a piece of notebook paper. I've never seen anything like this in my life.” Young says it's difficult to tell from the drawings exactly what the consequences of filling the channel might be. And then there's the vague note on the map indicating “various buried pipelines.” http://news.sciencemag.org/scienceinsider/2010/06/emergency-oil-spill-responseho… added by: DeliaTheArtist

Mel Gibson Condemned For Alleged Racist, Sexist Rant Against Ex

Reported taped outburst against Oksana Grigorieva ‘reveal the actor’s fundamental character flaw,’ Jesse Jackson says. By Gil Kaufman Mel Gibson Photo: Jordan Strauss/WireImage Mel Gibson’s messy public split from the mother of his 8-month-old daughter got uglier on Thursday, when reports emerged about a 30-minute tape-recorded rant of the actor hurling racist and sexist epithets against Oksana Grigorieva. Amid reports that physical abuse allegedly took place in the brief relationship Gibson, 54, had with the 40-year-old Russian model/singer following his divorce from his wife of 30 years, RadarOnline revealed that the actor used the N-word and other expletives during a profanity-laced argument with his ex. Gibson’s spokesperson did not deny that the speaker in the taped outburst was his client, but the one-time box-office giant has not commented on the recording as of press time. The couple, who were first seen together a month after Gibson’s divorce last year from the mother of his seven children, broke up in April and are fighting for custody of their daughter. Grigorieva reportedly made the tape because she feared for her life after Gibson allegedly made threats against her. During one segment, Gibson allegedly says, “I am going to come and burn the f–king house down … but you will b— me first.” And in another, he reportedly tells her that she looks like a “f—ing pig in heat” who risked getting “raped by a pack of n—–s,” as their baby screams in the background. The Reverend Jesse Jackson told Radar that the latest racist outburst proved that Gibson has a “fundamental character flaw.” “Mel Gibson’s outburst demonstrates once again that we are far from a society that is ‘beyond race and racism,’ ” Jackson told the site. “His penchants for anti-Semitic and racist diatribes reveal the actor’s fundamental character flaw. … He needs help.” The Los Angeles NAACP released a statement to TMZ condemning the outburst. “An apology is insufficient given his history of racism, sexism and anti-Semitism,” L.A. branch president Leon Jenkins said. “No amount of words will change his image as an out of date and out of control racist. Only [with] a sustained period of positive acts can his legacy be redeemed.” Renowned attorney Gloria Alred also got into the mix and sent Gibson an open letter via Radar saying, “As an attorney who has represented many sexual assault victims and as a woman who is a survivor of rape myself, I want you to know how deeply offensive, appalling and harmful your reported statements are.” This is not the first time Gibson has been called out in public for using racial slurs. The “Lethal Weapon” actor, once one of the most popular, bankable movie stars in the world, was blasted by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation in 1991 over an interview in which he made derogatory comments about homosexuals. Several of his movies — including “Braveheart” and “The Passion of the Christ” — have been criticized for their portrayal of homosexuals and Jews. In addition to allegations that “Christ” had anti-Semitic overtones, a leaked report from a DUI arrest in July 2006 had Gibson — who has struggled with alcohol abuse — making anti-Jewish remarks to one of the arresting officers, saying, “F—ing Jews. … Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” He also made derogatory, sexist remarks to a female officer during the same traffic stop, calling her “sugar t–s.” Gibson later confirmed that he made the comments and apologized twice through his publicist, but the incident appeared to have a lasting impact on his movie career, which has stalled since the arrest. Gibson has denied claims by Grigorieva that he knocked her teeth out during an argument. Both parties have filed restraining orders against each other in the midst of the custody battle. A spokesperson for Gibson could not be reached for comment at press time.

Oil Spill Hits Utah, Official says spill hasn’t reached Great Salt Lake

Imagine if an oil spill happened in your town and contaminated a whole park… that's exactly what just happened in this Utah town. VIDEO OF THE UTAH SPILL: http://news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474978299489 http://heraldextra.com/news/state-and-regional/article_b28deb54-3914-5051-8ce0-d… Emergency workers believe they have stopped a 21,000-gallon oil leak from reaching the environmentally sensitive Great Salt Lake, one of the West's most important inland water bodies for migratory birds that use it as a place to rest, eat and breed. But the spill has taken a toll on wildlife at area creeks and ponds, coating about 300 birds with oil and possibly threatening an endangered fish. The leak began Friday night when an underground Chevron Corp. pipeline in the mountains near the University of Utah broke. The breach sent oil into a creek that flows through neighborhoods, into a popular Salt Lake City park, and ultimately into the Jordan River, which flows into the Great Salt Lake. The 10-inch pipeline was shut off Saturday morning, when workers at a nearby Veterans Administration building smelled oil and called the Salt Lake City fire department, which notified Chevron. The pipe carries crude oil from western Colorado to a refinery near the Salt Lake City International Airport. Jason Olsen, spokesman for the Salt Lake City Joint Information Center, said Sunday that emergency workers believe they have contained the spill to the Jordan River. But the spill still took its toll on birds at Red Butte Creek and at a large pond at Liberty Park, where visitors often feed birds from the shore and on rented paddle boats. About 300 birds were coated in oil and cleaned at Utah's Hogle Zoo. Fewer than 10 have died, said Salt Lake City spokeswoman Lisa Harrison-Smith. Most of the birds were Canada geese, although some ducks were also covered. Harrison-Smith said the oil also flowed through several other riparian areas, which could threaten the June sucker. It's been listed as an endangered species since 1986. Most of Liberty Park reopened Sunday. The pond remained closed, and Olsen urged those who live near affected waterways to stay away from them. “Wherever the oil is, the smell is still fairly strong,” Olsen said. The Salt Lake City Police Department told residents whose yards were polluted by the spill not to clean them up, but to file a claim with Chevron first. Chevron has said it is taking full responsibility for the spill and will pay for its cleanup. Harrison-Smith said Chevron had investigators at the scene of the leak Sunday and that the Environmental Protection Agency had brought in a U.S. Coast Guard water recovery expert to assist with cleanup efforts. She said city officials were hoping to receive a report on the spill from Chevron sometime Sunday evening. U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, said he spoke by telephone Sunday with Becky Roberts, president of the company's Chevron Pipe Line Co. unit. Matheson said Roberts told him that until Chevron crews dig up the broken section of pipe, the company can't be sure what caused the leak. Matheson is urging full disclosure on the leak's cause, and said his office will follow up to make sure Chevron follows EPA regulations. “I would say they are responding very aggressively to it. I think they know there is a heightened concern among people in this country about oil spills,” Matheson said. “I think they understand it's in their best interest to do everything they can to fix this as soon as possible.” Online: http://www.chevron-pipeline.com added by: captainplanet71

Christina Aguilera Says Bionic Is About Fun And The Future

‘I haven’t made a record this fun in a pop sensibility since my very first record,’ she tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Christina Aguilera Photo: MTV News Christina Aguilera’s just-released Bionic album is a whirring, wooshing, forward-thinking thing that sees the prodigiously piped pop star moving even further away from her “Genie in a Bottle” past — but, really, that was the plan all along. Because, as Aguilera told MTV News, Bionic — which features collaborations with the likes of M.I.A., Tricky Stewart, Sia and Le Tigre, to name just a few — isn’t really as much of a departure as her fans might believe. It seems she’s been building toward this for a while now. “There was a taste of things to come on [2008 greatest-hits package] Keeps Gettin’ Better, but the futuristic idea actually came up for a few reasons,” Aguilera said. “One being the Back to Basics album, because I wanted it to be a tribute to those I was very much inspired by and what made me passionate about music, soul and jazz and blues and paying homage to those musicians and those artists and doing a modern-day interpretation of what that meant to me. So it was important for me to dive into that world and reflect elements of the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s. “And that was a huge departure from the Stripped album. And Stripped was a huge departure from the first album,” she continued. “I always make it a point to reinvent what I’m doing and take a minute, take a break in between records to really find out who I am and what I’m inspired by next.” And during the break between 2006’s Back to Basics and Bionic, Aguilera and husband Jordan Bratman welcomed their first child, son Max. And, as Aguilera has said in the past , becoming a mother only served as more inspiration for the new album’s sonic adventures. “Since the last album, I’ve become a mother, which inspired me so much. When you have a child, you think of the future, you think of the next generation,” she said. “And I started getting heavily into electronic music and listening to that, and I loved all the atmospheric sounds and interesting elements that had to offer. And then I dove in and reached out to these people wanting to collaborate, which is magical, and walked away with all these new friends as well.” But no matter how futuristic Bionic may get — and no matter how much she’s grown in the decade since she first burst onto the pop landscape — Aguilera said that, at the end of the day, it’s not really all that dissimilar to her ’99 self-titled debut. After all, both share one rather unique characteristic: a focus on fun, first and foremost. “The whole record is fun. I actually feel like I haven’t made a record this fun in a pop sensibility since my very first record,” she said. “Because I feel there’s been growth and comfort within myself, and I don’t have to be scared of that side of myself anymore. But it’s in a much more sophisticated way that I was able to release it on this record. I’m just really proud of it, and it’s exactly how I’m feeling now.” What do you think of Christina’s new direction on Bionic ? Let us know in the comments!
