Heejun Han Soothes Jennifer Lopez After ‘Idol’ Exit: ‘It’s OK, Baby’

‘Those judges suck, but Jennifer is awesome,’ latest ‘American Idol’ castoff laughs to MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kelly Marino Heejun Han Photo: MTV News No joke: Heejun Han got the boot on Thursday night’s “American Idol,” bringing his odd, occasionally hilarious run to an end. And while his exit didn’t come as a shock to most, it was rather odd that it came on the heels of his best performance, a smooth take on Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You,” which earned him praise from the judges and a standing ovation from the studio audience. But if you think Han is taking all this personally, well, then you probably haven’t been paying attention to his antics. Because after his exit, he was all smiles, as MTV News found out firsthand. “I would be sad if I were to go home when I was [in the] top nine, top seven, top six — I would be so sad anyways,” he said. “But, you know, I’m just happy, because I finished really great, and I feel like I proved a lot of things to the world, so I’m kind of in an excited place, actually.” In typical Han fashion, he was still making the most of his time in the spotlight, using our microphone to praise his paramour, Jennifer Lopez — who seemed to be the lone judge determined to save him after he was voted off — and take a few joking swipes at frequent nemesis, mentor Jimmy Iovine. “Jennifer actually came up to me and said, ‘I really, really tried to save you, but they wouldn’t listen to me!’ and I said, ‘It’s OK, baby, it happens all the time.’ Those judges suck, but Jennifer is awesome,” he laughed. “[And] Jimmy Iovine needs to get himself a new pair of glasses and new hat, because he’s been wearing that for a fricking long time. No, Jimmy was a great mentor, I respect him a lot. I [just] hope I don’t see him anytime soon, because I’ve been talking a lot of crap about him.” While Han is slightly sad that his time on “Idol” is over, he said he has no regrets about anything he did on the show, mostly because he only auditioned to prove a point: that anyone can accomplish their goals if they put their mind to it. And he’ll continue spreading that message. “I started off this competition to prove to the world that, if you really believe in yourself, you can become someone regardless of who you are … and that’s what I did, that’s what I proved,” he said. “I never thought I could be a star or anything like that, and I’m not yet, but I want to take this chance to make something out of it, to prove to more people that you can become someone.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Justin Bieber Promises Fire And Ice In ‘Boyfriend’ Video

‘I think people are going to be really surprised,’ Bieber tells MTV News on the set of the ‘unique’ video. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News While much of Justin Bieber ‘s “Boyfriend” video remains top-secret, MTV News scored a visit to the set Thursday night, and the teen superstar offered up some insight into what Beliebers will see when the clip drops. “The concept of this video, I mean it’s not like a steady concept,” he explained on the Cali-based set in between shots. “It’s not like ‘Justin follows this girl to this spot.’ No, it’s a bunch of amazing scenes: Like a fire scene, we have an ice scene.” He continued that the video will also include some of his very fine dancing skills. “It’s kind of like bouncing back and forth,” he said. “And then there’s scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It’s fun.” Bieber and Tilley have worked together several times in the past, including on the VMA-nominated “U Smile,” as well as “Never Let You Go,” “Fa La La” (with Boyz II Men) and Chris Brown’s very cinematic “Next 2 U,” which features Bieber. “The video’s really good. Colin has done a great job,” he said. “The lighting has been amazing and everything’s been so unique and I haven’t seen anything like it. So, I think people are going to be really surprised.” “Boyfriend” is the lead single off Believe, expected to drop later this year. The song was co-produced and co-written by Mike Posner and Mason Levy. The album will also feature some production from Timbaland, Diplo and will.i.am. Diggy Simmons’ ‘Copy, Paste’ Is ‘Anthem’ For Innovators

Diggy talks to MTV News on set of Phil the God-directed video. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Kelly Marino Diggy Simmons Photo: MTV News Diggy Simmons fancies himself an originator, and his first official single, “Copy, Paste,” is a toast to the young rapper’s individuality. MTV News caught up with the son of Rev Run on the set of the song’s video in L.A. ” ‘Copy, Paste’ is just for people that are original, people that are innovators, people that just do their own thing,” he said. “I feel as though that I’m a person like that myself, so just making a theme song or an anthem for people that are like that.” The video, directed by Phil the God, features Diggy in a lab, tied up with tubes. The young rapper bypassed making a run-of-the-mill, club-set rap video. “It feels great working with Phil the God, that’s the director that did ‘Made You Look’ with me; he did ‘What They Been Waiting For’ and ‘Shook Ones.’ Those are like my three viral videos that I did when I was doing my mixtapes, and he just came up with the best treatment,” Diggy told MTV News. “It just feels right: We have a great connection. We’ll hop on the phone and talk about ideas, the things I want to do, the things he wants to do, and just get hyped off of each other’s energy, and the best will come out of that.” After making his stamp in the mixtape game with the 2010 DJ Premier-hosted Past, Presents, Future and Airborne , the 2011 XXL Magazine freshman is putting the finishing touches on his yet-untitled Atlantic Records debut album. While there is no release date set, Simmons estimated he is about 85 percent done. He also revealed that the previously leaked, Bruno Mars-assisted “Click Clack Away” won’t make the LP’s final track list. Diggy promised some “great features,” but insisted the album will focus primarily on him. “A lot of it is me: There are only a few features, though, but there are features that fit the songs perfectly,” he said. “I don’t really go based off of, ‘Oh, I like this artist, let’s do a song with them.’ I like doing that, but the way this went was, ‘Oh, he would sound great on this hook, let’s do it.’ Otherwise, it’s all me.” What do you think of Diggy Simmons’ new single? Akon Calls Nick Cannon ‘Famous’ Collabo ‘Overdue’

‘He does a lot of family-friendly stuff and I’m trying to go into that realm,’ ‘Kon tells MTV News. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Kelly Marino Akon Photo: MTV News Akon ‘s year in music may seem like it’s off to a slow start, but expect the Senegalese-American artist’s name to be back to music industry ubiquity shortly. MTV News recently caught up with the singer/producer/executive on the set of Nick Cannon’s video for “Famous,” where Akon told us linking up with the actor/rapper (who’s expecting twins with wife Mariah Carey ) was opportune. “I listened to [‘Famous’] and I actually liked it,” Akon said. “He does a lot of family-friendly stuff and I’m trying to go into that realm right now. I want to do a lot more family-friendly stuff, and Nick is the best at that. I feel like this was a collaboration way overdue.” On the set, Akon was friendly as always but didn’t divulge any new details about his upcoming album, Stadium, which he hopes to release in September. Last year, the “Sexy Chick” singer revealed to MTV News that producer David Guetta had contributed to the project. For now, Akon plans to go on mini-tours and release new music just to whet the appetites of his fans. But he still isn’t sure which song he’ll drop first. “I don’t know what to release first,” he said. “I’m so excited about the project itself, I’m like, ‘OK, which record do I want to put out first?’ I haven’t quite decided but by the end of April I’ll know exactly what I’mma do with the record.” ‘Kon was more assured in his reverence for Dr. Dre. Last year’s “Kush,” the official lead single from Dre’s long-awaited Detox album, featured a vocal from Akon. “Dre is one of those guys … he’s a perfectionist in his own [right],” Akon said. “You feel confident working with him because he’s not going to let nothing go undone. In a way, that’s great. But sometimes you’re anxious too, like, ‘Man I can’t wait to let everybody hear this.’ Ultimately, working with Dre was just amazing. Dre is very picky about who he decides to work with too. For him to call me and do [multiple] tracks on the record and be involved in more than one record on that album, it said a lot. It shows how much he really appreciated what I’m doing.” Are you excited to hear new tracks from Akon? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Akon Nick Cannon

Nicki Minaj Says She’s ‘Very Excited’ To Tour With Lil Wayne

‘This is what I’ve been praying for,’ she says. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Kelly Marino Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj is an international star these days, but when Harajuku Barbie went on the road with Lil Wayne for his I Am Music Tour two years ago, her portion of the show was limited. For the sequel, however, the “Moment 4 Life” rapper made it onto the marquee. Minaj will join Rick Ross, Travis Barker and Mixmaster Mike on Lil Wayne’s next outing . “Oh my God, I’m very excited to be touring with Wayne,” Nicki told MTV News. “The last time I toured with Wayne I was onstage for three minutes. Now I have my own set, I have my own lighting, my own costumes, my own dancers, my own everything. And this is what I’ve been praying for [for] a very long time.” She’s certainly come a long way compared to when she first joined Weezy’s Young Money roster. Wayne admitted she was a nice addition, but he didn’t see her becoming as big of a star as she’s become. She, along with Drake, gave him the luxury of relaxing while he was behind bars, knowing his prot

Kristin Cavallari Recalls Her Best And Worst ‘Hills’ Moments

‘I think my biggest thing was the first episode … I really came in with a bang,’ she tells MTV News of season-five appearance. By Jocelyn Vena Kristin Cavallari Photo: Christina Garibaldi/ MTV News Kristin Cavallari entered “The Hills” like a human storm during one of the show’s most pivotal episodes. Just as Speidi were finally set to tie the knot for real (and Lauren Conrad to say a final farewell), Cavallari walked into the church and the MTV reality series hasn’t been the same since. Not only has the blond star managed, in just under two seasons, to make moves on both Justin Bobby and her ex Brody Jenner, but she also stirred up trouble with Justin’s on-again, off-again GF Audrina Patridge, as well as with Brody’s ladies Jayde and McKaela. (Kristin even had a little hookup with gal pal Stacie.) So between falling in love and making enemies, we wondered what stood out the most to Kristin. MTV News asked the show’s leading lady to give us her most memorable “Hills” moment. “Gosh, top moment … I think I had a couple,” she told us, recalling her rooftop fight with Audrina over Justin during the premiere episode of the second half of season five. “I think my biggest thing was the first episode where I really came in with a bang,” she laughed. “And it was like, ‘All right, clearly I’m back.’ ” These days, everything’s fine between Kristin and Audrina; the two ladies managed to kiss and make up, so to speak. However, one lady Cavallari said she wishes she’d never actually kissed is her bartender pal. “I think that’s sort of my I-wish-I-didn’t moment was when I made out with Stacie in Vegas,” she explained. “That was one episode I had to call my dad and say, ‘Dad, sorry — this is going to be your least favorite episode.’ ” It was a moment that not only surprised viewers at home, but her father too. “He was like, ‘Oh, great,’ and then when he called me — sometimes he’ll call me after every episode just to talk about it — he didn’t say one word about the episode. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. … It’s probably a bad thing,” she laughed. Despite that one regret, Cavallari admitted she’s never been shy about her bad-girl ways. In fact, she always fully embraces them, right through to “The Hills” series finale on Tuesday . “I think it’s funny,” she laughed about her carefree attitude when it comes to boys and, well, girls. “Honestly, I think it’s fun to play the bad girl, and no one remembers the nice girl, you know?” Are you sad to see “The Hills” coming to an end. What’s your favorite Kristin moment from the series? Tell us in the comments! Join MTV News all week as we look back at the best of “The Hills” and celebrate the series finale with the cast on Tuesday, July 13. N.E.R.D. Won’t Divulge ‘Treats’ To Come On Nothing

‘We can’t give away the treats,’ Pharrell says of upcoming disc. ‘You gotta go get it.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Kelly Marino Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D. Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images The guys of N.E.R.D. are keeping in tune with the title of their next album when it comes to revealing details about their next effort. “We can’t give away the treats,” Pharrell told MTV News of the trio’s forthcoming Nothing, due September 7. “That’s like saying ‘trick or treat’ [when] you already know what you’re going to get, so [you] don’t knock on the door,” P said, adding, “Nah, man, you gotta go get it.” “Go knock,” groupmate Shay Haley chimed in, encouraging fans to buy the album this fall. The trio — Pharrell, Shay and Chad Hugo — are riding high off the success of “Hot-N-Fun,” the first single from Nothing, which features Nelly Furtado. And they recently premiered the Jonas

Maroon 5 Had No ‘Distractions’ Recording Hands All Over In Switzerland

‘The obligation we had was to dig really deep, and we did,’ Adam Levine says of working on album with producer Mutt Lange. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino Maroon 5’s Mickey Madden and Adam Levine Photo: MTV News For their latest pop-rock opus, Maroon 5 headed overseas and into the arms of Mutt Lange (AC/DC, Shania Twain, Nickelback). The band made a getaway to Switzerland, the super-producer’s home base, where they worked on their upcoming LP, Hands All Over. And the serene backdrop was just the great escape they needed, frontman Adam Levine says. “Our biggest weakness is laziness and lack of focus, which mostly comes from me, because I am like that,” Levine confessed when MTV News visited the set of Maroon 5’s “Misery” video . “But the coolest thing about being [in] Switzerland, we weren’t distracted at all. There was nothing to be distracted by, except scenery, which was very beautiful. But once you kind of took all that in, you were left with your own thoughts.” Levine also revealed that apart from battling distractions, the next challenge was to make sure the album rocked. “It was nice to kind of have that quiet mind, especially for me, because I have the hardest time quieting my mind,” the singer said. “It was nice having nothing bothering me, nothing on my mind, nothing to do, no obligations,” he recalled. “The obligation we had while we were there was to make the best record we possibly could, and to kind of dig really deep, and we did.” Maroon 5 have sold millions of records, enjoyed the perks of fame (Levine has dated a few Hollywood starlets) and had a number of radio hits, but they say there’s still room for even bigger successes. And Hands All Over, due in September, couldn’t have come out any better, Levine said. “I’m so satisfied. I think we all are with what we did, because I literally think it’s the best that we could do.” Are you excited for a new Maroon 5 album? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Maroon 5
