After this season, Kenan Thompson is officially throwing in the towel on his long-running Saturday Night Live gig. Thompson, 36, joined the sketch comedy in 2003 and has been on the show longer than any other Black cast member… Continue
How lonely do you have to be to fall in love with your computer ?? In the new Warner Brothers Film “Her,” Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) does just that. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johannson) which promises to be an intuitive and unique entity in its own right. From the singular perspective of Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze, “Her” is an original love story that explores the evolving nature — and the risks — of intimacy in the modern world. The way technology and online love are going, people often fall for partners they never even meet in person…so is it really that farfetched to imagine a man falling in love with Siri? Peep the trailer: “Her” is currently playing in select theaters and opens nationwide on January 10. Will you be watching?
SNL is adding a lot of color to its staff … SNL Adds Black Female Writers To Staff Via Dallas Black reports: Hot on the heels of the news that “Saturday Night Live” will hire their first Black comedienne in 5 years, the sketch comedy show will also add two Black women to their writer’s room, according to The Hollywood Reporter. LaKendra Tookes (left) and Leslie Jones, were discovered during the show’s recent secret auditions in New York and Los Angeles, held specifically to cast Black women, after the show drew criticism that it’s cast lacked diversity (because, really, that was enough of Kenan Thompson playing every. single. Black. woman in sketches). While Tookes and Jones were passed over for the acting role that eventually went to Sasheer Zamata, their new appointments are undeniably just as important. The show seriously needed a shakeup in point of view in that writer’s room or else the sketches would’ve been more of the same anyway. Even the funniest actor or comedian can only do so much with dry material (Exhibit A: Kevin Hart’s widely panned appearance on the show back in March 2013)! Actress-comedian Tookes, is a former news reporter from Florida who has performed at iOWest (watch her character reel here). While Jones is an actress (“The League” and “Sullivan & Son”) and stand-up comedian who has performed at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles as well as written for and appeared on “Def Comedy Jam” and “1st Amendment Stand Up.” In 2010 she starred in a comedy special “Problem Child” was broadcast on Showtime. I’m excited to see Black women working in entertainment, especially on a show that’s known for launching huge and lasting careers in the past. But to be honest, I’m still not sure how I feel about SNL’s antics. That it took a national outcry for them to go through binders full of Black women and fit these limited spots…five years after having a Black woman on the show? Hmm…. But there’s more incentive than ever to tune into the show this month. Tookes and Jones start work next Monday, to write for the first episode that Zamata will also make her appearance in, January 18th. As we previously reported, Drake will host that episode. Will you be watching January 18th?

Lorne Michaels is behind it so maybe it’ll be better than most of us would expect?!?! According to The Hollywood Reporter : Kenan Thompson, who has been with the sketch comedy series since 2003, is attached to write, star in and executive produce an untitled comedy, which has received a script commitment from the network. The single-camera comedy would star Thompson as Kenan Monroe, a guy who gives up his New York life and moves to his in-laws’ house in the suburbs, where he must contend with three generations of problems. Michaels will executive produce through his Broadway Video banner and Universal Television, marking the second project he has set up this development season. Thompson started his career on the scripted side, with roles on The Steve Harvey Show, Sister, Sister and The Parkers, before co-starring on Nickelodeon’s Kenan & Kel. He continues to be a featured performer on SNL, with sketches including “What’s Up With That” and impersonations including Whoopi Goldberg, Charles Barkley and the Rev. Al Sharpton. Did he get funny enough to have his own show all of a sudden?? Images via tumblr
Saturday Night Live didn’t waste any time poking fun at one-time Presidential candidate Herman Cain’s decision to end his bid for the GOP’s nomination. Cain announced that he was dropping out of the race after a woman named Ginger White alleged that she had a 13-year-long affair with Cain and several other women claimed that they were sexually harassed by the Georgia businessman. Cast member Kenan Thompson revisited his spot-on impersonation of Cain, joking that “I scheduled an appointment with my wife. We had a productive discussion while she glared at me listening to Mary J. Blige .” RELATED POSTS: SPOOF: Mike Tyson Finds His Inner Herman Cain [VIDEO]
These two didn’t waste any time! We reported last month that Kenan and Christina were engaged and this past weekend they made it official down in Atlanta. This time it was Kenan — not Kel — who said “I do, I do, I do, I do ooh!” Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson married model Christine Evangeline on Friday, sources confirm to Us Weekly. The 33-year-old comedian said “I do” in the Arctic Room of the George Aquarium in Atlanta, and Nick Cannon even headed south to DJ and do some MCing! “[They’re] very happy. They’ve lived together as a couple and were excited to share the moments with close friends,” says a source. “She was thrilled and a beautiful bride.” The bride wore a chic silky white gown with a long trail for the ceremony, then changed into a ruffled, strapless white dress for the festivities after. “Being in the rented out aquarium made the night even more magical,” a source tells Us. “Christina loved the dolphins.” Before Thompson joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2003, he was a fan favorite on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy show All That from 1994-1999. He and costar Kel Mitchell concurrently appeared in a spinoff, the aptly titled Kenan & Kel, from 1996-2000. Kenan, you are one lucky son-of-a-beyotch. Peace and blessings to you and your new wife…. Source We have a few pictures from the wedding as well as pics of Christine to admire from afar, being that she’s happily married now…
We’re not even mad you pimp! No joke: Kenan Thompson is getting married. The “Saturday Night Live” star, 33, is engaged to girlfriend Christina Evangeline, his rep confirmed to Usmagazine.com. Thompson launched his career in the ’90s when he starred on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy show “All That,” followed by his own spinoff show, “Kenan & Kel,” with longtime friend Kel Mitchell. He then joined the cast of “SNL” in 2003, becoming the first member to be born after the show’s 1975 premiere. Following news of the couple’s engagement, Evangeline took to Twitter and gushed about Thompson. “He’s my best friend,” wrote Evangeline, who’s previously appeared in Maxim magazine. “I could only be so lucky.” 2 thumbs up to you sir. It sounds like you’ve got a beautiful woman that is down for your cause. Would you wife her? Source Before these two lovebirds jump the broom, let’s take a moment to admire the body of the bangin’-a$$ bride shall we? (Who are we kidding, we’ll still be admiring her even AFTER they’re married!)
Anytime Saturday Night Live brings on a “young, hip” entertainer, they have a history of dumbing down their material for the mass audience — which is exactly what happened last night with host Miley Cyrus. It’s obvious that there’s a concerted effort to appeal to the 16-year-old out there who has never watched SNL before, but was watching last night because Cyrus was hosting — a Cyrus, I should add, who came off a bit smug at times (her monologue is a good example) and seemed to never really win over the studio audience.
