Study Shows That More Than 20% Of Black And Hispanic Teenagers Have Sent Freaky Phone Messages And Pics Before!

The iPimps and the eHoes are increasing at a rapid rate among our children Study Shows Sexting Highest Among African-American And Hispanic Teens Via NBCNews More than 20 percent of black and Hispanic teens say they have used their cellphones to send a “sext” message showing a nekkid or semi-nekkid photo or video of themselves to another person, and more than 30 percent say they have received such sex messages, according to a new study. The research was done by University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and the U.S. Department of Health Services. Why the focus on the two groups? “Although sex messages among U.S. youth has received much popular media attention, there are only limited data on its prevalence among ethnic minority youth,” say the researchers in their study, published online journal, Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking. The concern about sex messages, the researchers say, is whether it “impacts other behaviors and health outcomes among youth and adults and, if so, what is the direction of the impact.” That said, not every scientist is convinced that sexting will lead to ho-ish tendencies. Balderdash, says Deb Levine, the executive director and founder of the Internet Sexuality Information Services, based in San Francisco, which uses the Internet and mobile apps and texts to share information about sexual health, disease prevention and assault. “From a public health perspective, we have not as yet identified ‘sex messaging’ as a risky sexual behavior as regards HIV, STDs and unplanned pregnancies,” Levine told NBC News. “Therefore, the need to identify young people who sex message seems unnecessary.” In a recent editorial piece, “Sex!ng: A Terrifying Health Risk … or the New Normal for Young Adults?” for the Journal of Adolescent Health, Levine wrote that “If we are to use sex messaging to create relevant health messaging for youth, the messages could focus less on shame and more on mutual consent, communication about sexual desires, and regular testing for HIV and other STDs, especially for sexually active members of high-risk groups.” One thing that is not in question however, is which demographic of people are more likely to be prone to having a lil freaky phone fun. “The results of this study indicate that sex messaging is prevalent among ethnic minority youth,” the researchers said in the study. “ And while the authors acknowledge that more research is needed to understand the context and circumstances of that sex messaging, “the first step in any public health inquiry is to understand the scope and prevalence of a potential health problem. Some data exist on the prevalence of sex messaging among youth in general. However, prevalence data for ethnic minority youth specifically are scarce.” The researchers’ data is based on findings from 1,034 tenth-graders from a “large, urban school district in southeast Texas.” In this new age of technology it’s not only important to talk to your kids about sex, but also “digital sexual activity”. Online sex sites, social networking apps, and unlimited use of smartphones all give young children the ability to do some freaky finger fawking. What do you think makes sexting more prevalent amongst African-American and latin kids? Are we just a more naturally freaky people?? Image via Shutterstock

Stop The Violence: Trayvon Martin’s Parents Hold Candlelight Vigil In NYC On The 1-Year Anniversary Of His Death

Trayvon Martin’s Parents Hold Candle Light Vigil On One-Year Anniversary Of His Death Today marks exactly 1 year since 17-year-old high school student Trayvon Martin was senselessly gunned down by self-appointed neighborhood watchdog George Zimmerman during an altercation that began when Zimmerman approached Trayvon on his way home from the store because the teen was wearing a hoodie and  ”looked suspicious.” via USA Today Robert Zimmerman wears bullet-proof vests when he goes outside his house. He doesn’t greet neighbors or look grocery store cashiers in the eye. Once, angry customers at Starbucks confronted him over one of the nation’s most controversial cases. Zimmerman is not a suspect, but his brother, George, is the man accused of murdering Trayvon Martin a year ago today. Like Trayvon’s family, Zimmerman’s family has been forever changed since the night Trayvon, a teenager who prosecutors say was racially profiled, was shot dead in a dark Florida subdivision. Amid plans for a vigil in memory of Trayvon tonight in New York City, the families of George Zimmerman and Trayvon are speaking as publicly about the case as ever. Trayvon’s father, Tracy Martin, 46, continues to be haunted by the moment he identified his son’s dead body. For him, Feb. 26, the day of the shooting, and Feb. 27, the morning he identified his son, mark the worst days of his life. “I just want to erase those two days,” he said. “No healing has been one inside my heart.” Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon’s mother, has spent the year trying to heal and working with other families whose children have been killed. She tells parents about her experience and lobbies for changes in “stand your ground” laws across the country. “The first six months, we were crying a lot,” Fulton said. “But we can’t continue having our kids die for no reason. We have to come up with some plan to stop this violence. I don’t know if it’s gun control or educating people with guns.” Tonight, Martin and Fulton will hold a “Million Hoodies Candlelight Vigil for Trayvon Martin,” in Union Square at 6 p.m. We sincerely hope that the Martin and Fulton families will finally see justice served in 2013.

Dennis Rodman in North Korea: WTH!?

NBA Hall of Fame member Dennis Rodman is in North Korea right now. File that under THG Headlines You Didn’t See Coming This Morning. Rodman, along with three current members of the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team, are apparently filming a TV show for a US media company. The company said they hope engage in some “basketball diplomacy.” North Korea leader Kim Jong-un, who just oversaw the country’s recent nuclear test, is known to be a big basketball fan. So … can’t hurt, we suppose? Shane Smith, the founder of U.S. media company Vice, says: “Is sending members of the Harlem Globetrotters and Dennis Rodman to the DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] strange? In a word, yes.” “But finding common ground on the basketball court is a beautiful thing. “These channels of cultural communication might appear untraditional, and perhaps they are, but we think it’s important just to keep the lines open.” As the delegation arrived at Pyongyang’s airport, Rodman said: ”It’s my first time, I think it’s most of these guys’ first time here, so hopefully everything’s going to be OK, and hoping the kids have a good time for the game.” Bull Bullard, one of the three Harlem Globetrotters on the tour, said they were hoping to teach North Koreans some of the team’s signature basketball skills: “We’re going to teach them, we’re going to show them what we do,… a lot of magic with the basketball, a lot of wizardry, a lot of fun and entertainment.” It was not clear exactly what the players would be doing while in North Korea, but Vice promises “documentary style news reports from around the world.” Rodman, a Hall of Fame member, is as famous for his tattoos, piercings and cross-dressing as he is for his rebounding titles and five NBA championships. He used to play for the Chicago Bulls which, according to a memoir by Kim Jong-un’s former sushi chef, was his favorite team as a young man. Rodman and his group will be in the country until March 5.

Swirly Matrimony-dom Quote Of The Day: Donald Faison’s Wife Cacee Cobb Says “I’m Growing A Human While He’s Growing A Vajayjay!”

SMH @ this broad Cacee Cobb letting her gut full of homeboy give her reason to run her yap… Via US Weekly reports : Jessica Simpson’s BFF CaCee Cobb isn’t due to give birth for several months, but it sounds like she already has her hands full taking care of husband Donald Faison. On Wednesday, Feb. 20, the pregnant 31-year-old joked that the Scrubs actor, 38, wasn’t exactly living up to his role as man of the house while both were feeling under the weather. “I love how I’m sick and growing a human while Donald Faison is sick and growing a vag***,” the mom-to-be quipped on Twitter about her spouse of two months. (The couple wed at pal Zach Braff’s home in California on Dec. 15, 2012, a little over a year after they got engaged.) Cobb and Faison announced that they were expecting their first child together on Jan. 31, with a photo of a tiny T-shirt featuring a baby-sized Star Wars stormtrooper on Facebook. “Looks like Donald Faison and I are going to have a little stormtrooper of our own!” the soon-to-be first-time mom captioned the adorable snapshot. Faison — who has four kids from previous relationships, including three with ex-wife Lisa Askey — couldn’t be happier about his fifth little bundle of joy, even if (as Cobb’s tweet suggests) he’s being a bit of a baby himself at the moment. “I’m just excited for CaCee,” he told Us Weekly earlier this month. “She’s probably the most loving person I’ve ever met in my life.” He added: “And so for her to have a baby that she can love and you know, raise, and that we can raise together, and she can influence and teach and stuff like that, it just, I know that it’ll be a really good human being when it’s older.” Damn Donald… holler at us when you get your balls back. On a side note — as much as these two talk about their baby being a “human” we think they must read Bossip! Take good care of that gut full Cacee and stop neutering your man in public. Save that for behind closed doors. WENN

Could You Do It? Missouri Couple Adopts 5 Peruvian Orphans Before Ever Meeting Them!

Doin’ good in the Peruvian hood Missouri Couple Adopts 5 Peruvian Children That Lost Both Their Parents Via People Two years ago, Scott and Lauren Sterling were sitting in their Blue Springs, Mo., home when an email landed in their inbox with an eye-catching subject line: “Hi, we need a daddy and mommy.” That email, sent a world away from a small orphanage in Pacasmayo, Peru – and written by a fellow member of the couple’s church where Scott, 43, is an associate pastor – introduced them to five siblings, then ages 7 to 15, who had lost both parents to tuberculosis about eight years ago. Because the children refused to be split up, the kids’ chances of finding new parents were slim. “Our first thought was, someone rich ought to adopt these beautiful kids,” says Lauren, 30, a job recruiter who was already a mom to daughter Laney, now 3, and stepmom to Logan, 19, Scott’s daughter from a previous marriage. “But over the next few months, we realized, why not us?” The Sterlings began a year-long process to legally adopt the five siblings, which involved Skype chats with the kids, reams of paperwork, and $20,000 raised by the Sterlings’ church to help with adoption fees. “It’s very unusual to find a family willing to take in so many siblings,” says Pat Baldwin, director of international programs at Villa Hope, which oversaw the adoption. “What the Sterlings have done is a true act of love. You can say that again. That’s a lot to go through for some kids that you have no emotional conncection to. In Nov. 2012, the Sterlings flew down to the orphanage to meet Yhonson, now 17, Gerson, 15, Betsi, 12, Joel, 11, and Sibila, 9, in person for the first time and to bring them back to the States. “The girls came running to us from a distance and jumped into Scott’s arms,” recalls Lauren. Adds Yhonson, who speaks limited English: “We were so happy. It was very emotional. We waited so long to be together.” The new family returned to Missouri just a few days after Christmas and were greeted by friends and neighbors who had stocked the Sterlings’ kitchen with food, repainted their bedrooms, and set up a Christmas tree loaded with presents for the kids. “Our home is now a mixture of Spanish, English and Spanglish thrown in and we use Google Translate a lot,” says Lauren. “People say these kids are lucky to have us, but we’re the ones who’re lucky to have them.” We gotta give the Sterlings credit for keeping this family together, Lord knows white folks have saved “poor little colored children” from the perils of the world Image via Sterling Family
