Kristen Stewart Makes ‘After Hours’ Debut In ‘The Yes/No Show’

‘MTV First: Snow White & the Huntsman’ debuts new clip and cast interview Tuesday night at 7:56 p.m. on MTV and MTV.com. By Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News At a time when it seems like virtually every movie at the multiplex is based on a fairy tale, comic book or best-selling YA novel, “Snow White & the Huntsman” checks off all the boxes even if it’s none of the above as well. Confusing? Well, the cast is clearly borne of past successful franchises, namely Kristen Stewart (have you heard of her?) coming off of “Twilight” and Chris Hemsworth dropping his Thor hammer in favor of an ax this go-round. And of course the film is inspired by one of the most cherished fairy tales of our youth. But look more closely at “SWATH” (as fans have quickly taken to calling it) and the film clearly owes more to Tolkien than to Walt Disney. And I think that’s why we’re all excited for its June 1 release. I know that’s the case for me. It doesn’t hurt that Charlize Theron looks to be chewing some scenery in a fun way with a diabolical take on the evil queen (much more fetching than the one in the cartoon of my youth, as I recall). Tuesday night (at 7:56 p.m. on MTV & MTV.com to be precise) we’re debuting “MTV First: Snow White & the Huntsman.” As usual, we’ll be debuting a never-before-seen clip, and I’ll be sitting down with the cast (Stewart, Hemsworth, Theron and Sam Claflin, who portrays the prince in the tale) for a 30-minute interview. We taped the special a little while back, which means I can share something fun and exciting with you: Kristen Stewart’s very first participation in “After Hours.” And what better franchise to start her off on than “The Yes/No Show”? [EMBED YES/NO SHOW] There’s a lot more where that came from on the full show Tuesday night, including tons of insight into the filming, the actors’ takes on their iconic characters, Chris and Kristen’s weapons technique and a near-breakup fight between Kristen and me. It’s all in good fun, and we’re quite proud of it. And there’s more exciting “SWATH” news to come as I’m headed out to England later this week to reunite with the entire cast, so as always, feel free to send your questions to me @JoshuaHorowitz with the #MTVSWATH. A Second Look I got a chance to see “Avengers” for the second time over the weekend, this time in good old 2-D (and I’d recommend seeing it this way, by the way). And by gosh, I might have enjoyed it more the second time around. I have a bunch of conflicting feelings about the movie. After my first viewing, I was pretty convinced that while I had a great time watching it, it’s less satisfying to me than most of the previous films. If we’re looking at the recent bevy of Marvel flicks, “Captain America” is my favorite, delivering the most full-bodied experience (i.e., it’s got the cool stunts and humor but it’s also got a great character arc at its core). But a funny thing happened as “Avengers” rolled the second time around: I let go of my hang-ups with the story (er, there isn’t much of one) and I let myself fully geek out for two hours at what Joss Whedon and company expertly did: create the purest fanboy-friendly film ever made. ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Stars Bring Exclusive Clip To MTV!

Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Sam Claflin will debut sneak peek at 7:56 p.m. Tuesday on MTV, followed by online Q&A. By Kara Warner MTV First: Snow White and the Huntsman Photo: MTV News Things are really heating up for the summer movie season. We’ve got the release of “Marvel’s The Avengers” this week, “Battleship” soon after and the very buzz-worthy action adventure “Snow White and the Huntsman” arrives June 1, marking the debut of Kristen Stewart as an action star. MTV News is very proud to announce that we will be offering fans an exclusive first look at the film via “MTV First: Snow White and the Huntsman” on Tuesday, May 8. Stewart and co-stars Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Sam Claflin will be live on MTV’s airwaves at 7:56 p.m. ET to premiere the exclusive clip, after which they will stick around for a Q&A on MTV.com hosted by MTV News’ Josh Horowitz. Fans can get in on the action by submitting their reactions to the clip in the comments section or on Twitter (using @MTVNews, hashtag #MTVFirst). During “MTV First,” the four stars will also answer your Twitter questions and dish on the very latest news. In order to help tide you over until the big reveal next week, here’s a little interview snippet from Stewart in which she discusses her preparation for mastering the English accent required for her role as the titular Snow White. “I worked on it for a while, so I was really lucky, I didn’t have to jump right in,” Stewart said of her ample pre-production time. “I would have been terrified [if I had to jump in], so I felt really confident with it when I went into it. I didn’t feel like I was attached to specific lines and stuff, which I would kill myself if I felt that I had to know exactly what I was going to say.” Stewart has received rave reviews for her performance from director Rupert Sanders. “Kristen is a very driven, visceral, intuitive actress. From a director’s point of view, it’s great to get into her headspace,” Sanders told MTV News . “We did a lot of work together on the script and character, and she really helped inform me how that character was feeling, which really helped my process getting the character onscreen. Kristen was doing a lot of her stunt work, she was riding horses, she was jumping from high precipices into freezing cold water, she was fighting dwarves — she’s gung-ho.” Don’t miss “MTV First: Snow White and the Huntsman” on Tuesday, May 8, at 7:56 p.m. on MTV, followed by a Q&A with Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Sam Claflin on MTV.com! Robert Pattinson Charting Familiar Path With Post-‘Twilight’ Roles

With two small films in the works, the heartthrob proves he’s planning a future beyond the franchise that made him, experts tell MTV News. By John Mitchell Robert Pattinson and Tom Cruise Photo: Getty Images Robert Pattinson knows that the shelf life of a Hollywood heartthrob is short. Teen dreams have a tendency to come and go with shocking regularity, which is why the actor is intent to do everything he can to break out of the mold. The success of the “The Twilight Saga” has alternately put Pattinson in the best and worst position an actor can have in the business. He’s become a superstar on the back of a franchise, but since he was a relative unknown when cast, it also defines his career up to this point. We know him for that role — and not much else. Of course, Pattinson is aiming to change that with a series of upcoming roles, including the just-announced “Mission: Blacklist,” a “gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller” about a military interrogator that played a key role in the 2003 capture of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. On Thursday (May 3), Deadline also reported that Pattinson has been added to “The Rover.” As Reynolds in the David Michod film, he’ll pursue the men responsible for stealing his car all across “the rough Australian outback.” “What Robert Pattinson is doing isn’t new in the slightest,” Greg Ellwood of HitFix told MTV News. “Ever since the American indie scene exploded in the early ’90s, actors such as John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Christian Bale, Ewan McGregor and John Cusack, among others, have jumped between indie and studio-produced films.” Indeed, it’s a well-tread path, and the actor is following it closely with several films in the can that he hopes will establish him as a leading man outside of the “Twilight” franchise. In “Bel Ami,” RPattz plays a young man navigating the tricky social hierarchy of late-19th-century Paris by manipulating the city’s most influential and wealthy women. And as “ER” star Clooney did with Steven Soderbergh (“Out of Sight,” “Ocean’s 11”), when he was trying to break away from his TV persona, Pattinson has smartly aligned himself with an acclaimed filmmaker, David Cronenberg (“Eastern Promises,” “A History of Violence”), for the futuristic indie thriller “Cosmopolis,” which will make its world premiere in competition later this month at the Cannes Film Festival. All of these roles are a major departure from Edward Cullen, and while that’s a risk, the films have relatively low budgets, letting producers and financers gradually test whether Pattinson is a bankable movie star — and a strong leading actor — outside of the franchise that has defined his career to this point. Pattinson isn’t, as they say, putting all his eggs in one basket. “What makes Pattinson different is his huge core fanbase so early in his career,” Ellwood continued. “Yet, he’s still not a household name outside of the ‘Twilight’ fanbase or movie fans under the age of 30.” Contrast that with Jennifer Lawrence, who already had an Oscar nomination for “Winter’s Bone” and a box-office hit in “X Men: First Class” under her belt before conquering screens as Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games.” The role has made Lawrence a household name , but unlike Pattinson, her abilities as an actress and future as a performer were not really in question before she entered the arena. Indeed, many critics noted the film was made all the better by having a proven actress in the lead role. As Pattinson transitions from “Twilight,” he has something to prove. So far, he has wisely steered clear of big-budget fare, a mistake his “Twilight” co-star Taylor Lautner made only to see his first star vehicle, “Abduction,” misfire at the box office, calling into question whether the teen star can carry a movie. Pattinson has so far headlined two non-“Twilight” features: “Remember Me” and “Water for Elephants.” And while “Remember Me” grossed only $19 million domestically, it cost only $16 million to make, so once international grosses ($37 million) were accounted for, it was easily in the black (if not the hit he was likely hoping for). “Water for Elephants” fared better, but co-star Reese Witherspoon also gets credit for its $117 million combined worldwide gross. “Starring in films like ‘Water for Elephants’ opposite Reese Witherspoon helps, but he’s going to need to mix up another big hit or two outside of ‘Twilight’ to reach the [Leonardo] DiCaprio or [Brad] Pitt level,” Ellwood says. “You could argue that Kristen Stewart is further down that road. Especially after the expected blockbuster ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ opens in June.” Pattinson’s post-“Twilight” choices show a performer who wants to be taken seriously as a versatile actor without risking a major financial failure. He seems keen to line up as much quality work as he can before the franchise ends and he jumps off the proverbial cliff and into the unknown. Whether he can pull it off remains to be seen, but his choices at least prove that he’s interested in being more than a movie star. Like all those other stars who took the indie-film leap in the ’90s, Pattinson wants you to think of him as an actor first and a global celebrity second. How do you think RPattz will do in roles beyond Edward Cullen? Tell us in the comments! For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

Judd Apatow’s ‘This Is 40’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd are back as Debbie and Pete, picking up in their marriage where they left off in “Knocked Up.” By Fallon Prinzivalli Melissa McCarthy and Paul Rudd in “This is 40” Photo: Universal Pictures Ever wonder what happened to Alison’s sister and brother-in-law from “Knocked Up” ? The dynamic duo of Debbie ( Leslie Mann ) and Pete ( Paul Rudd ) had a few key scenes in the film, including Debbie taking Alison (Katherine Heigl) to the club where she meets Seth Rogen’s character. Now Judd Apatow aims to brings us back into the lives of the couple as Debbie celebrates her 40th birthday in “This Is 40.” Continually lying about her age as she refuses to accept it, Debbie wonders if she’s living the best life possible and decides she and Pete need to make some changes. “I’ve made a list,” she tells her husband in a scene from the trailer , which was released on Friday (April 27). “It’s the ‘do-better’ list. We’re 40 years old, if we don’t do it now, when are we going to do it?” Read on for more on five key scenes from the clip! Counting the Rings At the gynecologist’s office, the nurses try to figure out if Debbie was born in 1972, ’74 or ’75 since her paperwork lists a range of dates of birth. When Debbie finally blurts out, “I lie about my age, OK ? OK?” her gynecologist responds, “I know how old you are. I’m counting the rings.” And with that line, we know typical Apatow humor will be on display in this flick. After that exchange, Debbie decides it’s time for a change and makes a list of the top three things she and her husband need to focus on now that they’re in their 40s: exercise, the kids’ education and being patient. Exercise Every Day In one scene, Debbie works with a personal trainer, which allows the filmmakers to bring back Jason Segel ‘s “Knocked Up” character, also named Jason. “I can turn your body into a boner machine,” he tells Debbie. When she points out that every woman gives him a boner, he replies, “Don’t sell yourself short,” before adding in a whisper, “Barb doesn’t give me a boner.” Looks like Jason’s crush on Alison’s sister never went away. Get Involved in School As Pete confronts a mother whose son is picking on his daughter, “Bridesmaids” star Melissa McCarthy makes a cameo as the confrontational mommy. She tells Pete to get his daughter’s meds right and Pete calls her son an animal. When Pete gives her shoulder a little shove, she screams, “You touched my nipple!” When he tells her he merely touched her below her shoulder, she replies, “I have very high nipples!” How Rudd kept from breaking into laughter during that scene is beyond us. More Patience With the Kids Another key scene opens with Pete and Debbie’s daughters pulling each other’s hair as they fight in the back seat of the car. It then cuts to them at the dinner table, where Debbie announces they’re cutting back on the girls’ gadget use so they’ll spend more time outside. She suggests instead that they build a fort, to which the exasperated eldest daughter exclaims, “And do what in the fort?” When Debbie says, “You don’t need technology,” the youngest daughter holds an iPhone up to her mouth and says, “No technology,” as a monkey on the screen mimics her words. Payback Time The final scene shows Pete spread-eagle on a bed, holding a mirror up to his crotch trying to look at … something. (We honestly don’t want to know what.) When he asks Debbie to take a look, she asks if they can just keep a small shred of mystery in their relationship. Pete replies, “I saw you have babies — payback time.” At least being in your 40s isn’t boring. “This Is 40” is set to hit theaters Christmas 2012. ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Sequel In The Works?

It’s more than a month until first Kristen Stewart film is released, but David Koepp is reportedly in talks to pen a sequel script. By Kara Warner Chris Hemsworth, and Kristen Stewart in “Snow White and the Huntsman” Photo: Universal Studios Despite the fact that we’re still a little more than a month away from the release of “Snow White and the Huntsman,” there are already rumblings of a sequel. According to Deadline , Universal has apparently already begun talking to screenwriter David Koepp about writing a sequel to the film, which is one of this summer’s most highly anticipated movies. Koepp certainly has enough credibility in drafting scripts for big blockbusters: He has screenplay credits on “Jurassic Park,” “Mission: Impossible,” “Spider-Man,” “War of the Worlds” and “Men in Black III.” Naturally, we don’t know what happens to the characters over the course of the film, but star Kristen Stewart has already expressed interest in reprising her role as the titular Snow White. “To be totally candid and honest with you, when I first signed on to this thing, the idea of doing another franchise was like, ‘Wow, [we’ll] cross that bridge when it comes.’ It was something so far outside my realm of thinking,” she told MTV News when asked if she’d be game for more action and adventure as the fairest one of all. “I was so focused on the first one, and I thought, ‘Maybe, maybe,’ but I’ve got stars in my eyes. I’m literally over the moon about what I’m doing right now,” she said of her work on “Huntsman.” “Yes, I would love to [do more ‘Snow White’ films].” “Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders is reportedly Universal’s choice to helm the sequel if it happens, and judging from his positive comments about working with Stewart , it seems likely the pair could team up again. “Kristen is a very driven, visceral, intuitive actress. From a director’s point of view, it’s great to get into her headspace,” Sanders said. “We did a lot of work together on the script and character, and she really helped inform me how that character was feeling, which really helped my process getting the character onscreen. Kristen was doing a lot of her stunt work, she was riding horses, she was jumping from high precipices into freezing cold water, she was fighting dwarves — she’s gung-ho.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Kristen Stewart Works Her Short Shorts

I’m being serious now, are you not allowed into the Coachella music festival if you’re not wearing some sort of stupid looking hipster short shorts? I don’t get it. I mean, I like short shorts as much as the next guy, but there’s something about the way the hipsters wear them that just doesn’t do it for me. Here’s Kristen Stewart working her denim shorts and stupid hat. I don’t know, maybe it’s the sneakers that ruin it for me. Some stripper heels might fix that right up.

‘Huntsman’ director Rupert Sanders also discusses the ‘fiendish’ Charlize Theron for MTV News’ Summer Movie Preview Week. By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart in “Snow White and the Huntsman” Photo: Universal Pictures It’s clear from all we’ve seen from the “Snow White and the Huntsman” trailers, photos and behind-the-scenes sneak peeks that this film is a stepping stone for Kristen Stewart in many ways. When MTV News caught up with the film’s director, Rupert Sanders, recently, he explained how everyone involved in the project stepped up their game for this modern take on a medieval story. “Kristen is a very driven, visceral, intuitive actress. From a director’s point of view, it’s great to get into her headspace,” he explained. “We did a lot of work together on the script and character, and she really helped inform me how that character was feeling, which really helped my process getting the character onscreen. Kristen was doing a lot of her stunt work, she was riding horses, she was jumping from high precipices into freezing cold water, she was fighting dwarves — she’s gung-ho. Sanders said Stewart’s co-star Charlize Theron was equally gung-ho with respect to the lengths she went to take her beauty into a dark and horrible place. “[She] becomes fiendish,” Sanders said. “She was willing to get in tubs of black oil, surrounded by dead ravens, and crawl her way out. For a director, what’s great about these two actors is that they will go beyond what you ask of them, and I think it really shows in the performances they’ve given. They’re both very unlike any performance I’ve seen either of them deliver.” The first-time feature director promised that fans will not be disappointed by what they’ll see onscreen when the film opens June 1. “What I’m most proud of is that it’s not a popcorn movie in that respect. It’s big and it’s epic and there’s lots of battle sequences, but it really hits you,” he said. “There’s not a lot of weeping, but it’s a very intense ride. You’re really at the edge of people’s boundaries. There are new ways of seeing action, which I’m excited about. It’s a very modern take on a medieval film but doesn’t feel like we’re trying to do anything trendy or of the minute. It still feels practical.” It’s Summer Movie Preview Week, and MTV News will be bringing you exclusive interviews, clips and photos for the most anticipated summer movies . Kristen Bell And Dax Shepard’s Relationship Inspires ‘Hit And Run’

‘The first year or so we were dating, we wrestled a lot with, you know, my past,’ says Shepard, who also wrote and directed the movie. By Kara Warner Dax Shepard in “Hit and Run” Photo: Open Road Films Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are putting their love on the line, so to speak, for the sake of their upcoming action-packed R-rated comedy “Hit and Run.” The plot revolves around former getaway driver Charlie Bronson (Shepard), who busts out of the Witness Protection Program to drive his girlfriend (Bell) to Los Angeles so she can land her dream job. Their road trip becomes increasingly complicated and dangerous when they are chased by the feds (led by Tom Arnold) and later Charlie’s former gang of criminals (led by Bradley Cooper). When MTV News caught up with the fun-loving, real-life couple recently, they provided expert teasery and commentary as to why we’ll all be dying to see them onscreen together in the film. “The first year or so we were dating, we wrestled a lot with, you know, my past,” said Shepard, who also wrote and directed the movie. “Uncovering details of his sordid lifestyle,” Bell added. “The movie became a metaphor for that, for a couple dealing with people’s past,” Shepard explained. “So we put that in a car-chase movie.” “Of course,” Bell said with a smile. “Naturally, it’s such an easy fit,” Shepard agreed. “Where I am in Witness Protection and Kristen’s [character] is a professor.” “Of course,” Bell agreed again with a smile. “Naturally. And, you know, I have an even shadier past than I’ve really let on, and that kind of becomes obvious over the course of me trying to drive her to L.A.,” Shepard said. “The sh– hits the fan, basically, to sum it all up,” Bell offered. And if Shepard and Bell’s witty and pretty adorable repartee doesn’t entice you to check out “Hit and Run” when it hits theaters August 24, you should also know that there are a lot of fancy and fun cars in the film. “I play one of the supporting characters in the film,” Bell said. “The lead lady is played by Lady Lincoln, this 1967 Lincoln that Dax has … ” ” … sunk our savings [into],” Shepard admitted. “Yes, for years, [he] spent every paycheck on and put a lot of heart and soul into,” Bell added. “He put race-car bucket seats in, 5-point harnesses … ” ” … 700 horsepower,” Shepard cut in. “700 horsepower. I got this,” Bell said to Shepard. “It’s beautiful. There are a lot of cars in the movie.” “If you couldn’t bring 500 horsepower to the table, your vehicle was not invited to be in it,” Shepard said. It’s Summer Movie Preview Week, and MTV News will be bringing you exclusive interviews, clips and photos for the most anticipated summer movies .
