Rehtaeh Parsons, Canadian Teen, Kills Herself Due to Alleged Rape and Bullying

Rehtaeh Parsons, a 17-year old in Nova Scotia, hanged herself last week as the result of fallout from an alleged rape in 2011. The teenager’s mother, Leah, told the CBC that four boys assaulted her daughter two years ago, even taking a photo of the incident and posting it online. Leah took Rehtaeh – who battled anger and depression and had been hospitalized on at least one occasion between the rape and suicide – off life support on Sunday. After a year-long investigation, police concluded there was not sufficient evidence to pursue any charges against the culprits. According to the CBC, countless comments were posted on a Facebook page set up in tribute to Parsons, urging someone be held accountable for this tragic death. Nova Scotia Justice Minister Ross Landry said yesterday that he plans to meet with Leah soon to “discuss her experience with the justice system,” adding that he’s been reviewing details of the case and consulting with officials. “I know that law enforcement and the public prosecution service do their best, every day, to administer and enforce the law,” Landry said in a statement. “I am committed to exploring the mechanisms that exist to review the actions of all relevant authorities to ensure the system is always working to the best of its ability, in pursuit of justice.”

Desiree Hartsock: Who is the New Bachelorette?

Desiree Hartsock may not have won The Bachelor, but the fourth-place finisher will be handing out the roses as the new Bachelorette starting May 20. The cutie said on The Bachelor: After The Final Rose special that she is “ready and open” to “to meet the man of her dreams” come this summer. Despite the fact that she made it far and became a fan favorite, we still don’t know that much about her. So here are some fun Desiree Hartsock facts: 1. She is a bridal stylist and a designer in Los Angeles. That will certainly come in handy if, as she hopes, she’ll be wearing her own before too long! 2. She designed her own dress for the opening rose ceremony when she wowed Sean Lowe . Who is now engaged to Catherine Giudici, but still! 3. She’s outdoorsy. Loves hiking in particular. Hope you’re in shape, guys! 4. She grew up in Colorado before settling in Newport Beach, Calif. 5. Like Sean Lowe, Desiree is a loyal and devout Christian, whose Twitter often refers to God and his will. No wonder she made it so far with Sean. Her Twitter has been quiet since March 11, of course, since filming for The Bachelorette is underway! Sounds like it’s going well so far, too. “OMG just saw Desiree on her first date for The Bachelorette! S he’s so cute omg & we talked & the guy was so hot” tweeted a Twitter user this week. Amazing Race B-52 Bomber Prop Sparks Outrage From Vietnam Veterans

CBS is under fire for using a wrecked B-52 bomber as a prop on last Sunday’s episode of its long running reality hit The Amazing Race – in Vietnam. Last week’s leg of the Race featured a segment in which the contestants raced around the wreckage of a B-52 shot down during the Vietnam War. The downed plane was then put on display in Hanoi as a “memorial.” Earlier, the contestants sat under a portrait of communist leader Ho Chi Minh and sat through a musical concert by young people singing a patriotic song . For Vietnam. The lyrics included: “Vietnam Communist party is glorious … Socialism is growing more beautiful with time. Follow the party’s step. Be loyal. Be pure.” The segment in the Vietnamese capital city, while only a part of the episode, sparked outcry from the American Legion, among other organizations. “The show is called ‘The Amazing Race’ but I call it ‘The Amazing Gall,’” American Legon National Commander James E. Koutz said in a letter to CBS. He called the segment a “disgraceful slap-in-the face administered to American war heroes” and scolded CBS for showing the Vietnamese singing group. CBS officials declined to comment yesterday when contacted by The Post.

David Viens Sentenced For Murder; Chef Denies Cooking Wife

Chef David Viens was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison Friday for his wife’s murder after telling the judge he was innocent in the bizarre case. “I didn’t cook my wife,” Viens, 49, insisted in Los Angeles Superior Court. The chef was convicted in September of second-degree murder in the 2009 death of Dawn Viens, despite the fact that her body was never found. David Viens says he has no recollection of giving a bedside statement to investigators that he cooked her in boiling water for days to get rid of evidence. A recording of the interrogation was played during the trial. “I loved my wife,” said Viens, who uses a wheelchair after suffering injuries from jumping off a cliff when he learned he was a suspect in her disappearance. He added, “I never meant what happened to happen.” Viens gave varying accounts of how his wife died, from admitting that he accidentally killed her to claiming his wife walked away and never returned. He spoke for a half-hour at his sentencing, asking for a new trial because his lawyer didn’t present enough evidence and should have let him testify. The judge denied the retrial request.

Ashley Greene Fire: Huge Blaze Engulfs Twilight Star’s Condo, Kills Dog

A fire ripped through the West Hollywood condo owned by Twilight star Ashley Greene this morning, causing major damage and killing one of her dogs. At least 10 fire trucks swarmed to the seven-story building earlier today to extinguish the blaze. Three people were treated for minor injuries. Residents in the building who live near Ashley Greene say that her brother and assistant had been going in and out of the condo all morning. One resident says she heard glass exploding in Ashley’s condo. Of the 26-year-old’s two fox terriers, one died at the scene under the bed. The second dog lived and was taken by Animal Control to be checked out. Several other residents tried to fight the blaze with fire extinguishers and were covered in soot. It’s still not clear what exactly started the blaze. According to TMZ, Ashley, her boyfriend and her brother were out late last night and were sleeping when the fire broke out on the living room sofa. They ran out of the apartment, and then realized the dogs were still there. Bravely, the two men tried to get back in to rescue them but couldn’t. The “inconsolable” Ashley wanted to keep the dog that died, so firefighters wrapped it in a sheet and gave it either to Ashley or one of the two guys. We’re sorry for Ash’s loss and for the fact that she had to go through that. It’s easy to get a new place, but pets and memories are forever. Chin up, girl.

Miranda Lambert Cleared of Allegedly Threatening to Punch Store Owner

Earlier this week, country stars Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton cleared up rumors about his non-affair with Cady Groves and other tabloid allegations. Now she’s been cleared – in a bizarre case in which a local store owner complained Lambert threatened to punch her. Police will not be charging her. Officials in Tishomingo, Okla., found no evidence that Shelton’s wife ever threatened to punch the woman earlier this month, as was reported. “Both the District Attorney and City Attorney reached the same conclusion that no crime was committed,” said an investigator working the case. Melanie Peden, 48, claimed Lambert became angry after she was invited to check out the former’s new antique store, Two Doors Down Junktique. This was March 5, just a few days before its grand opening. As it turns out, the shop is located near the crooner’s own boutique, The Pink Pistol. Per the National Enquirer, her accuser alleged Lambert launched into a tirade after learning that Peden bought the real estate out from under her. “She just walked around the place scowling at everything and finally blurted out that I stole this,” Peden said. “I was shocked when she became so angry.” Peden said that Lambert then became so incensed, she then threatened to slug her right in the mouth and take her to court. Police did not agree. Thankfully for the Grammy Award winner, law enforcement probing the matter determined otherwise and closed their investigation. Case closed. Crazy month for Blake Shelton and Miranda Shelton , but they seem to be taking all the rumors, hints, accusations and tabloid gossip in stride. Rock on.

Lindsay Lohan to Avoid Rehab AND Jail?!

Lindsay Lohan may be the luckiest petty criminal ever. A new report indicates that she may reach a plea deal that gets her out of jail AND rehab. Lohan, as you may have heard, already shot down a plea deal in her lying-to-cops / probation violating case because the D.A. insisted on rehab. Not the smartest move when her trial – currently scheduled for March 18 – could result in jail time, but it looks like she’s angling for an even better deal . First of all, there is NO WAY she’s going to trial represented by incompetent lawyer Mark Heller, so a plea bargain is going to be struck one way or another. It’s just a matter of how good it is, which brings us to the latest update. According to celebrity news sources, Heller might not be as bad as we thought: “A plea deal could be reached without Lindsay being forced into [rehab].” “Since she wasn’t arrested or charged with crimes related to drugs or alcohol a plea deal requiring her to go to rehab isn’t the only way a resolution can be reached.” “There are other possibilities including the options of Lohan undergoing extensive counseling and lengthy community service,” the source added. “Talks between Mark Heller, and the City Attorney’s office are ongoing and both sides are hopeful a plea deal can be reached soon that is mutually agreeable.” One wouldn’t think her prospects looked good, given her track record and unwillingness to accept responsibility, coupled with Mark Heller’s stupidity. Never test the limits of Lindsay Lohan ‘s luck, though. If Lohan were to be convicted of lying to law enforcement, or violating her probation (for her necklace thievery), she could be sent to jail for up to 245 days. If a rehab-free plea deal is actually on the table , that sounds like a remote possibility at this point. She has two weeks to work it out before trial, too. What do you think? Breaking Dawn: Part 2 DOMINATES Razzies

The not-so-critically-below Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 was the big “winner” at the 33rd annual Golden Raspberry Awards, a.k.a. the Razzies. The awards, given out the night before the 2013 Academy Awards , celebrate (or call out) Hollywood’s worst achievements of the cinematic year. Breaking Dawn Part 2 was recognized in seven categories, including worst picture. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew on that dubious honor!! Other Razzies racked up by the final Twilight Saga film: Worst sequel Bill Condon, worst director Kristen Stewart , worst actress Taylor Lautner , worst supporting actor Lautner and Mackenzie Foy, worst couple The entire cast, worst screen ensemble The film, of course, made $828 million at the box office and its big three stars are now world famous, so the Razzies can sort of suck it in that sense. Adam Sandler, who last year monopolized the Razzies with his “comedy” Jack & Jill , this year got only two awards for That’s My Boy . Progress, man! Rihanna, as worst supporting actress in Battleship , won by a landslide, while worst screenwriter Sandler beat the authors of Breaking Dawn by a single vote . Nothing like a true awards season nail-biter.

Suge Knight: Wanted After Court No-Show!

Suge Knight is a wanted man. It’s not the first time. Not one but TWO warrants have been issued for the former Death Row CEO’s arrest following a pair of alleged incidents in which he drove with no license. Knight was supposed to be in court last Thursday to answer charges pertaining to those cases, one stemming from 2011 and the other from 2012. But of course, ol’ Sugar Bear failed to show up. Especially when one is already on three years unsupervised probation for one of the incidents, bailing on a court date is typically not looked highly upon. The judge in the case immediately issued two bench warrants , meaning any law enforcement official is officially on notice to arrest Suge Knight on sight. Amazing that of all things, Knight is wanted by authorities for something as mundane as a driver’s license invalidation, but that’s where things stand. No word if he was with Katt Williams when he flaked.

Broke & Thirsty: NFL Star Turned “Sir Struggle” Terrell Owens Popped By Police For Stalking California Woman

This guy can’t just can’t win … Police Called On Terrell Owens For Stalking Woman Via TMZ reports: Terrell Owens was confronted by the LAPD around 4:30 AM Friday morning … after cops got a call that he’d been banging on a woman’s door for roughly 3 hours and refused to leave … TMZ has learned. Owens was NOT arrested … but according to law enforcement sources, the woman who lives in the home says she couldn’t get the guy to go away after she made it clear he wasn’t welcome. When cops arrived to the scene, the woman told police she was not afraid for her safety … she just wanted him off the property ASAP. Cops passed the message along to the ex-NFL star … who obliged … and just like that, the crisis was over. We reached out to T.O. for comment — so far, no word back. T.O probably brought her the house when he was getting paid but now the cash is slow she’s acting like she don’t know him! You must be one broke baller when even the groupies and hoes are calling the police on you.
