Man Decapitates Woman In A Grocery Store A mentally ill homeless Bulgarian man has been sentenced to time in a psychiatric institution after he was convicted of an unthinkable and horrific crime committed back in 2011. via Huffington Post A man has been convicted of beheading a British woman with a knife inside a supermarket on a Spanish resort island and will be sentenced to spend time in a psychiatric institution. A court in Santa Cruz on the Canary island of Tenerife found that Deyan Valentinov, a 20-year-old homeless Bulgarian man, had committed the act of murder but was not criminally responsible for his actions because he has acute paranoid schizophrenia. Valentinov will later be sentenced at a later date to between 10 and 15 years in a secure psychiatric unit, court spokesman Gonzalo Perez said Friday. Valentinov entered the store in May 2011, grabbed a 9-inch (23-centimeter) ham-slicing knife and repeatedly attacked Jennifer Mills-Westley before running into the street still holding her head. We can’t help but wonder if this man will return and be sentenced to actual prison time in 15 years if he’s somehow “cured” of his mental illness during his time in the psychiatric facility because this was just an unimaginable way for someone to lose their life. Robert Poindexter Sues Cash Money Records Over Sample In Bow Wow Song According to TMZ reports : Lil Wayne and Birdman’s label Cash Money Records is in the hot seat over allegations it illegally used a sample from a 70s song in one of Bow Wow’s recent tracks. The septuagenarian behind the lawsuit is Robert Poindexter from the 70s band The Persuaders. Poindexter claims Cash Money sampled his band’s song “Love Gonna Pack Up (and Walk Out)” and illegally lifted the tune in Bow Wow’s 2010 track “Still Ballin.” As for “Love Gonna Pack Up (and Walk Out)” — the song was recorded in 1972 and reached the top of the charts … and Poindexter says neither Cash Money nor Bow Wow ever obtained permission to sample it. Just because Poindexter is up in age doesn’t mean he doesn’t want his gwap! Poindexter claims he reached out to Cash Money for an answer, and was redirected to Bow Wow’s attorneys, who then directed him back to Cash Money … which is why Cash Money’s currently in his crosshairs. Poindexter wants $600,000 in punitive damages, plus interest. Cash Money has yet to respond to the suit. We reached out to the label for comment — so far, no word back. WTF?!?! 11-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Catches Fire In Hospital Bed Via NYDailyNews An 11-year-old Oregon cancer survivor caught fire in her hospital bed after cleaning a table with alcohol hand sanitizer – which may have generated enough static electricity to set her t-shirt ablaze. Ireland Lane suffered third degree burns to her chest, neck, arms and earlobes after the freak accident at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland on February 2. Her Navy veteran dad Stephen, who had been asleep in the room, said he chased her into the hallway and smothered the flames using his own body. State investigators have not yet confirmed the cause of the blaze, but Stephen believes it was static generated by the handwash Ireland was using to clean a table fitted over her bed. Wow, can you imagine being a parent and watching your child burn? “She still has bad dreams, but she doesn’t recall the actual incident, which from my perspective is very good,” Stephen told The Oregonian. The incident came at the end of Ireland’s hospital stay after she hit her head at school and lost consciousness. It also followed an intense six years in which she has beaten kidney cancer twice since 2007. Avagard D, the hand sanitizer blamed for the blaze, is 61 per cent alcohol and comes with warning that it should not be used near a flame. You smell that? Smells like…lawsuits and mula. A spokesman for manufacturers 3M defended its safety. But Mark Bruley, hospital fire investigator for the Pennsylvania non-profit ECRI Institute, said hand sanitizer could catch alight with a “surprisingly small” amount of static electricity. And he speculated the fire could have been caused by Ireland using a lot of the fluid and then wiping her hands on her t-shirt. A guy named Romain Julien — a French model — filed suit against Brown, Drake and the club for the injuries he claims he suffered during the bottle-throwing fight. Now both Drake and Brown have filed legal docs — obtained by TMZ — in which they point the guilty finger at each other. It’s a little technical, but each is asking the judge to pin the blame on the other. Drake and Brown each claim they were not responsible for the fight and want the other to pay any damages in the event the model wins his suit. It’s the first time Brown and Drake — both of whom have been linked to Rihanna — have gone after each other in court. SMH… These two are just trying to avoid being held responsible. Rihanna showed her support for Chris Brown yet again, as the singer faces concerns from the L.A. district attorney that he may have falsified his community service records. Via Page Six reports : Rihanna is standing by the man who savagely beat her. The pretty songstress strolled into a Los Angeles courthouse today with boyfriend Chris Brown, who is accused of falsifying records of his community labor. Rihanna arrived at the downtown courthouse by Brown’s side, and then blew him a kiss before he entered the courtroom first. She sat by Brown’s mom, Joyce Hawkins, in the courtroom gallery during this afternoon’s brief hearing. A judge didn’t immediately rule on prosecution claims that Brown faked his court-ordered community labor. Brown and Rihanna left the courthouse together, surrounded by their entourage. The rage-filled singer, who became infamous after beating up Rihanna in 2009, was sentenced to 180 days — or 1,440 hours — after pleading guilty to felony assault. He did 581 hours in Los Angeles, but was then allowed to do the rest of his time in his native Virginia. Brown claimed to have finished his sentence back home, but LA prosecutors said there’s no proof he did the work. “There’s no credible, competent or verifiable evidence that . . . Brown performed his community labor as represented to the court,” according to LA Deputy DA Mary Murray. The DA wants all of Brown’s Virginia hours thrown out and for him to be sent back to work in LA. On several days Brown allegedly worked in Virginia, he was out of of the state, prosecutors said. Judge James Brandlin said he wanted more time to review the DA’s claims. He ordered Brown to meet with a LA County probation officer within the next 48 hours and detail the work the singer claims to have done in Virginia. Sounds like RihRih put on quite a show. We hope that Breezy appreciates her sticking by him — but something about this couple’s strange dynamic has us wondering if there is still some manipulation going on behind the scenes. Guess that’s the way the cake crumbles? Yet another bakery is turning down business for faith based reasons, specifically when it comes to gay matrimony-dom. Via Salon reports : Oregon baker Aaron Klein could face legal action after refusing to do business with a same sex couple who sought a cake for their upcoming wedding. As reported by KATU, the woman who filed the complaint says she had previously purchased a wedding cake from Sweet Cakes Bakery for her mother without incident, but was denied service after she told Klein the cake she wanted to buy was for her same-sex wedding. Klein admitted he refused the bride-to-be, telling NBC, “I believe that marriage is a religious institution ordained by God. A man should leave his mother and father and cling to his wife… that to me is the beginning of marriage.” While he won’t bless the union of a gay couple with a too-thick layer of buttercream frosting and overly dry white cake, he is not anti-gay, Klein says. “I’ll sell [gay people] stuff… I’ll talk to them, it’s fine,” he told NBC. This isn’t the first time a bakery has become an unlikely battleground in the gay marriage debate. In 2011, Iowa baker Victoria Childress came under fire for refusing service to a same sex couple at their pre-wedding tasting. Again, Childress cited her religious beliefs and freedom of speech as a justification for the denial. And again, she didn’t see it as discrimination. “I didn’t do the cake because of my convictions for their lifestyle. It is my right as a business owner. It is my right, and it’s not to discriminate against them. It’s not so much to do with them, it’s to do with me and my walk with God and what I will answer [to] him for,” she told KCCI. In 2012, Jack Phillips, the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, found that refusing to bake for a gay couple’s wedding was a boon to his business. After the incident, “We had about twice as much business as normal” Phillips told KDVR. “There are people coming in to support us.” While many states have laws banning discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment and housing, the law is less clear when it comes to things like selling cakes. In Oregon, the question for the Attorney General’s civil enforcement officers is whether or not Klein’s religious beliefs defend him against the Oregon Equality Act of 2007, which prohibits discrimination against people based on their sexual orientation and gender identity. Last year, the New Hampshire legislature introduced a bill that would allow businesses to refuse business to gay and lesbian customers seeking wedding-related services through a conscience clause. As reported by the Eagle Tribune, the proposed bill could enshrine discrimination in state law, enabling more than just bakeries to refuse services to their customers: Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no person, including a business owner or employee thereof, shall be required to provide services, accommodations, advantages, facilities, goods, or privileges to an individual if the request is related to the solemnization, celebration, or promotion of a marriage and providing such services, accommodations, advantages, facilities, goods, or privileges would be a violation of the person’s conscience or religious faith. A person’s refusal to provide services, accommodations, advantages, facilities, goods, or privileges in accordance with this section shall not create any civil claim or cause of action or result in any state action to penalize or withhold benefits from such person. NY Daily News Reports : A shockingly graphic video showing a boozed-up crowd beating a man until his skull is fractured is a key piece of evidence in a gang assault trial now in the hands of a Manhattan jury. The three-minute tape of 37-year-old Kyam Washington being brutalized on a lower East Side street as drunken onlookers cheer is so violent that jurors in the trial were cautioned about the gore they would have to watch. “I need to warn you that the video you’re going to see in this case contains graphic disturbing footage of possibly the most prolonged and brutal assault that you have ever, or will ever, see,” Assistant District Attorney Lucy Cutolo told the Manhattan Supreme Court panel on Jan. 8. The suspects — Andrew McCray, Martrell Terrell, Shadia Brackman and Christopher Montanez, all friends from Yonkers who had been drinking Hennessy at Libation on Ludlow St. for a friend’s birthday — are accused of carrying out the savage attack at Essex and Rivington Sts. about 4 a.m. on May 8, 2010. Praise be to Allah Michigan McDonald’s Settles $700,000 Halal Lawsuit With Muslim Group Via ABCNews McDonald’s and one of its franchise owners agreed to pay $700,000 to members of the Muslim community to settle allegations a Detroit-area restaurant falsely advertised its food as being prepared according to Islamic dietary law. McDonald’s and Finley’s Management Co. agreed Friday to the tentative settlement, with that money to be shared by Dearborn Heights resident Ahmed Ahmed, a Detroit health clinic, the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn and lawyers. Ahmed’s attorney, Kassem Dakhlallah, told The Associated Press on Monday that he’s “thrilled” with the preliminary deal that’s expected to be finalized March 1. McDonald’s and Finley’s Management deny any liability but say the settlement is in their best interests. The lawsuit alleged that Ahmed bought a chicken sandwich in September 2011 at a Dearborn McDonald’s but found it wasn’t halal — meaning it didn’t meet Islamic requirements for preparing food. Islam forbids consumption of pork, and God’s name must be invoked before an animal providing meat for consumption is slaughtered. Dakhlallah said there are only two McDonald’s in the United States that sell halal products and both are in Dearborn, which has one of the nation’s largest Arab and Muslim communities. Overall, the Detroit area is home to about 150,000 Muslims of many different ethnicities. Damn, who knew that McDonald’s was catering to our muslim brothers and sisters? The locations advertise that they exclusively sell halal Chicken McNuggets and McChicken sandwiches and they have to get those products from an approved halal provider, Dakhlallah said. He said there was no evidence of problems on the production side, but he alleges that the Dearborn location on Ford Road sold non-halal products when it ran out of halal. Dakhlallah said he was approached by Ahmed, and they conducted an investigation. A letter sent to McDonald’s Corp. and Finley’s Management by Dakhlallah’s firm said Ahmed had “confirmed from a source familiar with the inventory” that the restaurant had sold non-halal food “on many occasions.” After they received no response to the letter, Dakhlallah said, they filed a lawsuit in Wayne County Circuit Court in November 2011 as part of a class action. Benabou is seeking unspecified damages for assault and battery — and more than $420,000 in unpaid overtime. But sources in Bieber’s camp tell TMZ … Moshe is nothing more than a “disgruntled employee looking for money.” They say the claim that Bieber struck him is “absurd.” As for why Moshe was fired, our sources say he told multiple lies including a big one — that he had worked closely with Justin Timberlake before being hired by Bieber. Our sources say it was discovered that he never worked for JT a day in his life. You may recall, Benabou was the guy who got into a physical confrontation with a photog at LAX back in February.
