10 Former Cheerleaders for Professional Sports Teams Who Became Famous

One really good thing about watching NBA , NFL and MLB games live is that you can get that close not only to the sports action, but to another kind of action as well: the dancing girls. Yes, cheerleaders have become as indispensable in professional sports as the players themselves. Without them, every single professional sports game would be nothing more than a sausagefest, and the guys, which make up the bulk of professional sports fans, wouldn’t like that very much, would they? Almost every single pro sports team has its own group of cheerleaders. Over the years, a number of its members have gone on to become famous. Some of the ten listed below have become familiar faces, while some are outright household names. 1. Paula Abdul She is without doubt the most successful former professional sports cheerleader of all time. Before she sold more than 50 million albums despite being not much of a singer , and sat as the mumbling and perpetually drunk/stoned judge of American Idol for eight seasons, she was a Laker Girl , and was even its head choreographer for years. 2. Teri Hatcher If you’ve wondering where Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher got those moves she does in Tango and Cash , here’s your answer: She was a member of the San Francisco 49ers cheering squad. Before that, she shook her pom-poms for her high school, and was even named most likely to become a Solid Gold Dancer . She didn’t of course, but instead became a solid gold TV star. 3. Sarah Shahi Amid a disappointing season, Sarah Shahi gave Dallas Cowboys fans something to cheer about. From 1999-2000, she was a member of the D allas Cowboys Cheerleaders , arguably the best known of all NFL cheerleading squads. She appeared on the cover of the DCC’s calendar before moving to Hollywood, where she eventually became one of the most beautiful faces on television today. She starred in the now-defunct NBC drama series Life , and is currently playing the lead in Fairly Legal , a legal drama airing on the USA Network. 4. Charisma Carpenter Before she made jaws drop as Sunnydale High’s resident shallow cheerleader Cordelia Chase in Buffy the Vampire Slayer , Charisma Carpenter was a cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers in 1991, just before she moved to Los Angeles to embark on a Hollywood career. 5. Trista Sutter Trista Sutter holds some sort of record in the history of reality TV for starring in the first seasons of both The Bachelor and its companion show, The Bachelorette . Known as Trista Rehn then, she was one of the final two contestants of the former, while she was chosen as the star of the latter. In both shows, it was very apparent that she had one hot body, obviously honed by her stint as a Miami Heat Dancer . Her televised wedding to The Bachelorette winner Ryan Sutter drew more than 26 million viewers, one of the biggest audiences for a reality TV show. 6. Stacy Keibler Pro wrestling fans have long worshipped Stacy Keibler for her unusually long legs. Pro football fans from Baltimore, however, have had first crack at those lovely gams as she pepped them up as a member of the Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders . 7. Kiana Tom Former Oakland Raiderette Kiana Tom became famous for her ESPN fitness series, Kiana’s Flex Appeal . She continued to build on her reputation as a fitness guru by starring in other ESPN produced shows Kiana’s Too Fit 2 Quit, Summer Sizzle with Kiana & Hot Summer Nights with Kiana . She is also an actress, starring alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme in Universal Soldier: The Return . 8. Kristin Adams Yet another Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader makes this list in the person of Kristin Adams née Holt. Her first shot at fame was in the first season of American Idol , where she was a semi-finalist. She later became a correspondent for the show, a job which would prove to be quite useful in her future endeavors. She blossomed into a good host, and G4 TV wasted no time in hiring her as host of Cheat! , a show where video game cheats and strategies are featured and discussed. She also currently co-hosts the USA Network show Character Fantasy . 9. Lisa Guerrero Back when Los Angeles had two professional football teams, Lisa Guerrero was a cheerleader for the LA Rams , before the franchise moved to St. Louis. Currently one of the top sportscasters in the United States, she is most famous for her stint on The Best Damn Sports Show Period on Fox Sports. She’s also an actress, appearing in movies such as Batman Returns and Fire Down Below . 10. Bonnie-Jill Laflin Bonnie-Jill Laflin was a cheerleader not just for one team of one sport, but for three different teams of two different sports. Before she became the NBA’s hottest, first ever and only female scout working for the Los Angeles Lakers front office, she was a cheerleader for the Golden State Warriors , the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys . Aside from currently holding a top position in one of professional sports’ most legendary franchises, she is also an actress, model and soon-to-be reality star, with a reality show based on her successful career in the male-dominated world of professional sports. George Anthony Cries on Stand, Implies Daughter Killed Caylee

Yesterday, George Anthony took the stand and defended himself against allegations that he carried on an affair with a woman who was helping him search for his grandchild, Caylee. Today, he implied that daughter Casey is behind Caylee’s death. George Anthony Testimony “The car smelled like human decomposition. Caylee was last seen with Casey,” George testified, growing emotional. “One and one adds up to two in my mind. I was trying to put all the stories together. ” Casey Anthony shook her head and scribbled notes to her legal team as her father answered questions. George said he felt a “deep, deep hurt inside” when Caylee’s remains were found a couple years ago. He even attempted suicide soon after because “it just seemed like the right time to go, to be with Caylee. To spend time with Caylee. I didn’t want to be in this world anymore.” The defense, who is trying to make jurors believe George abused his daughter and that somehow explains her changing story, asked the witness if he ever touched Casey inappropriately. “Sir, I never would do anything to harm my daughter in that way,” he said.

Bam Margera ‘Can’t Stop Crying’ Over Ryan Dunn’s Death

‘You’re gonna kill yourself, man,’ Margera recalled warning ‘Jackass’ co-star about his driving. By Gil Kaufman Ryan Dunn and Bam Margera Photo: Peter Kramer/ Getty Images A week after attending a memorial service for his friend and “Jackass” co-star Ryan Dunn , Bam Margera sat down for an interview with E! Online to discuss the car accident that took the lives of Dunn and friend Zachary Hartwell and talk about the final message he got from his fellow daredevil. “He was my best f—ing friend in the world. It’s been five days now, and I can’t stop crying, man,” Margera said. “I just don’t think it should’ve been him.” Looking drawn and tired, with wife Melissa Rothstein by his side holding his hand, Margera said the phone call he received about the accident was “pretty much the worst news I’ve ever heard in my life.” The call came while he was asleep in Arizona, with Margera’s friends urging him to get on the line with his brother right away to discuss the news. Sounding and looking a bit woozy, Margera remembered that he was a passenger in a car Dunn was driving in 1996 that flew off the road in the same spot. “He flipped me in a car eight times at the same exact spot in 1996,” Margera recalled. “Thank God I had my seat belt on, because [“Jackass” contributor] Chris Raab put one on me, but my brother didn’t have one on. He flew 40 feet. Thank God he’s alive. But like, Dunn was always a maniac at driving.” Asked to recall the final words he spoke with Dunn, Margera pulled out his phone and read a series of texts the pals exchanged on the night that Dunn drank with friends at a Pennsylvania bar. “Are you all right, need me to come over there and get people out of there?” he read, laughing about a string of jokes the two had shared over the legal travails of former baseball star Lenny Dykstra. “Stopping for a beer, be there when I can,” read the final message he got from Dunn, who was annoyed by the local traffic in West Chester, Pennsylvania, that night due to a local running event. He also revealed that the high-speed crash — police estimate that Dunn was driving in excess of 130 m.p.h. in a 55 zone and had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit at the time — was just a block or so from Hartwell’s house. “And he must have just missed the exit,” Margera speculated. “He should have just f—ing turned around, but he skidded out and ran right into a thing … and seeing all these burnt, f—ing pieces of tree … that was tough for me. I went twice.” Asked if the press focus on Dunn’s blood-alcohol level is a “disservice” to the stuntman’s memory, Margera said, “That doesn’t really matter at all. … First of all, I’ll say it about myself, it will take me three beers to even feel normal. If you drink three beers and then three girlie shots, whatever, it has nothing to do with that. He is a maniac in a car. He has a goddamn Porsche and he drives fast.” Margera went on to explain that Dunn’s Porsche was the “lightest one possible,” outfitted with a Lamborghini engine, a turbo booster and nitro boosts, which he said caused the car to fishtail when it sped down the road. “I said, ‘You’re gonna go right into a pole, dude,’ ” he recalled warning Dunn. ” ‘You’re gonna kill yourself, man,’ ” he responded when Dunn joked that he was a race car driver. If he could go back to that night, Margera said he would have told Dunn, “Give me your goddamn keys, you idiot.” Related Videos Remembering Ryan Dunn Related Photos Fans Pay Tribute To Ryan Dunn Ryan Dunn: A Career In Photos

Ryan Dunn Investigation Won’t Result In Charges Against Bar

Officials say Dunn did not appear intoxicated when he left Barnaby’s of America pub in Pennsylvania. By Gil Kaufman Ryan Dunn Photo: Jon Furniss/ WireImage Even though authorities revealed on Wednesday that “Jackass” star Ryan Dunn had a blood alcohol level that was more than twice the legal limit in Pennsylvania when he got behind the wheel of his Porsche and crashed it early Monday morning, the bar where Dunn and passenger Zachary D. Hartwell were drinking before the high-speed accident will not be charged in the case. According to The Associated Press , Sgt. William La Torre of the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Enforcement said on Wednesday that the agency has investigated the incident and determined that no charges will be filed against the Barnaby’s of America pub. The bureau determined that Dunn did not “appear” intoxicated during the time he was served two beers and six shots by bar employees over four hours. The bar’s general manger said that surveillance video given to police supported the observation of bar employees that Dunn did not seem to have been overserved. When MTV News visited Barnaby’s on Tuesday, a reporter noted that a sign is prominently displayed above the bar that reads “If you appear to be intoxicated, we cannot serve you any alcohol.” An employee also told MTV earlier this week that Dunn didn’t “seem intoxicated” when he was at the bar. “He spoke clearly. He walked clearly. He came in hop, skip, jumping. He left hop, skip, jumping,” Barnaby’s general manager Frank Herron told the AP. “If these results are true, I’m shocked at it. We were very confident that he had not had that much.” La Torre also noted that Dunn didn’t appear to eat anything as he drank and that the last few drinks he consumed were given to him by fans at a back table in the bar and are likely the ones that put him over the edge. A toxicology report released Wednesday said that Dunn’s blood alcohol level was 0.196 at the time of the crash; the legal limit for drivers in Pennsylvania is 0.08. Police also said that the stuntman’s Porsche could have been traveling as fast as 140 mph in a 55 mph zone when it jumped a guardrail, struck a tree and burst into flames, killing Dunn, 34, and Hartwell, 30. The report said Dunn did not have any “drugs of abuse” in his system at the time of the accident. The coroner’s office is awaiting the results of tests that could indicate the presence of prescription medications; those tests could take up to eight weeks. Hours before the crash, Dunn tweeted a since-deleted photo from the bar of the pair drinking along with another friend. The AP also reported that Dunn was charged in April 2005 with driving under the influence after crashing his car about 2 miles from Monday’s deadly scene. Court documents show that he successfully completed a program designed for first-time nonviolent offenders that allowed the charges to be dismissed. Fellow “Jackass” castmembers and close friends Bam Margera and Johnny Knoxville were among the people who gathered at a suburban Philadelphia funeral home on Wednesday for a private memorial service in Dunn’s honor . Dunn will reportedly be buried in Ohio, where he was born, and a public memorial service will be announced at a later date. Dunn’s obituary requests contributions be sent to Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids , a foundation the country singer started in 1999 to raise funding for children’s charities. Juelz Santana To Appear On ‘RapFix Live’ Wednesday

After missing the Diplomats’ ‘RapFix’ visit due to legal drama, Juelz will sit down with Sway on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on MTV.com. By Alvin Blanco Juelz Santana Photo: John Ricard/FilmMagic Harlem is coming to MTV News this Wednesday, when Juelz Santana visits “RapFix Live.” The flashy member of the reunited Diplomats was AWOL when Cam’ron, Jim Jones and Frekey Zekey sat down with Sway Calloway back in January, but Juelz will get a chance to discuss what he and the Dipset have cooking on the “RapFix” couch. Juelz has been laying relatively low lately but will have plenty to discuss. In February, the “Mic Check” rapper was arrested on marijuana and weapons charges stemming from a raid of his New Jersey studios by authorities. Dealing with the ramifications of those legal entanglements — rapper Hynief, a member of Juelz’s Skull Gang crew, was also arrested — is one of the reasons Juelz wasn’t present when the Diplomats were on “RapFix Live.” With his legal troubles in the rearview, Juelz will also be discussing his forthcoming new album, Born to Lose, Built to Win. The Diplomats also have a new project on the way, which will be released via Interscope Records , according to various members. MTV News will be sure to ask for updates on the status of I Can’t Feel My Face, Juelz’s long-in-the-works collaborative album with Lil Wayne, and his status with Def Jam Records. You can also expect Juelz, who last weekend hit Hot 97’s Summer Jam stage with Lloyd Banks and with the Diplomats , to a spit a hot 16 before concluding his visit. There is no telling what is going to go down on this week’s episode of “RapFix Live”! Visit MTV.com on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET to watch Juelz Santana on “RapFix Live”!

Flo Rida Popped For DUI in South Beach

Rapper Flo Rida hit a real “Low” point this morning when he was busted for DUI – in the state spelled the same way as his name, only without the space. Probably not a coincidence. Flo got popped in Miami Beach in a red and black Bugatti – a ride worth $1.7 MILLION – after he was swerving in his lane. During the traffic stop around 3:30 a.m., the police detected the odor of alcohol, and Flo was given a field sobriety test, which he performed poorly on. Flo Rida, whose real name is Tramar Dillard, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken to a station where he joined our celebrity mug shots gallery. Sources say Flo’s blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit . The police report notes that large crowd gathered around Flo after cops pulled him over, and that several bystanders were “trying to get officers to let [Flo Rida] go.” “Some individuals were offering to drive [Flo] home.” Always nice to see an outpouring of support from the community.

Lady Gaga Is ‘Just A Normal Girl’ … On 25-Inch Heels

As Born This Way rules the charts another week, producer DJ White Shadow says Gaga hasn’t changed since they first met. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images As Lady Gaga holds onto the #1 spot on Billboard, for the second straight week, with her chart-topping album Born This Way, DJ White Shadow is no doubt enjoying the success. When we caught up with the producer recently, he told us how their collaboration started off as a long-distance relationship. Back in 2009, White Shadow was approached to work on a co-headlining tour for Lady Gaga and Kanye West. After their Fame Kills Tour was canceled , though, Shadow was asked to focus on the next phase in Gaga’s career. The producer and the pop star had already built quite a foundation by the time they finally met in person in the summer of 2010. And while Shadow wasn’t completely sure what the encounter would be like, he had some clue that they would get along famously. “We had talked for so long before [we met in person]. We had talked on the phone or talked on iChat, in emails; I think we kind of knew about each other’s personalities,” he told MTV News. “I mean, obviously, I was excited to meet her. I felt like we were long-distance pen pals.” What he found out is that despite all of the unusual costumes, Gaga is a pretty regular 25-year-old. “She’s, like, super cool. I think everybody gets weirded out by ‘Oh, she looks so crazy on those 25-inch heels and the hair-bow,’ or whatever’s going on at the time, but she’s just a normal girl. Like, she’s funny. She’s really funny and super cool.” Shadow worked closely with Gaga and BTW musical director Fernando Garibay to create a pop album that would push the envelope. The DJ/producer worked on heavy-hitting tracks like “Born This Way,” “Government Hooker,” “Americano” and “Bloody Mary,” to name a few. So, how is Gaga as a boss, we wanted to know. “She’s the best boss. She’s a great friend,” he said. “She’s amazing. “Here’s the funny thing about this: People ask that question but I’m telling you, ’cause everyone wants to [know], ‘Does she say something to you as her friend or someone you know that she writes music with that she doesn’t say to us? Does she talk about New York in a way that she wouldn’t have done into a camera?’ And the answer is no,” he explained. “I’ve never seen her say something that was disingenuous.” Bottom line: Gaga is always Gaga. “The stories that she tells, the way that she looks on camera and the way that she acts … that’s how she is. That’s her character. She is the same.” In fact, like most New Yorkers, Gaga loves to shop for a good bargain. “I was walking down the street in front of the studio one day and she’s shopping for $20 shoes. She’s New York. We’ve been to dinner a couple times … just go to normal restaurants. It’s New York, it’s her home, right?” he said. “So, I’ve definitely heard all the stories that she’s telling. She’s very open.” What’s your favorite Born This Way track? Tell us in the comments! Related Videos Lady Gaga: Inside The Outside Related Artists Lady Gaga
