The 25-year-old candidate, who was surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, vowed to amplify the voices of Black people and the youth in his community if elected. “I think that from the response alone, you see people excited in a way they’ve never really been excited for a city council race in a very long time, from elders to the youth,” said Ford. Ford entered the spotlight in Pittsburgh in a disturbing case of alleged police excessive force . Pittsburgh Police Officer David Derbish shot him five times during a November 2012 traffic stop and a second officer was accused of assaulting him. A lengthy federal trial in 2017 ended with a jury in deadlocked on Derbish’s liability. After a second trial was scheduled to get underway, Pittsburgh settled the case for $5.5 million in January 2018. “We are very happy for Leon and his family to have closure so he can move forward and be the great and successful man he is destined to be,” a statement from Ford’s lawyer said following the settlement. Ford is indeed moving forward with his life. He’s competing as a Democrat, and he has the May 21 primary circled on his calendar. The singer alerted Instagram and Twitter followers last night that her house burned down in the massive wild fire that continues to consume significant areas of California. “Completely devestated [sic] by the fires affecting my community,” the singer Tweeted on Sunday, explaining in more detail: “I am one of the lucky ones. My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely & that’s all that matters right now. My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family & friends stand strong.” It’s very safe to assume that Cyrus is referencing Liam Hemsworth when she writes the “LOVE OF MY LIFE.” “I am grateful for all I have left. Sending so much love and gratitude to the firefighters and LA country Sheriff’s department!” she continued. From there, as you can see below, Miley encouraged followers to donate to organizations that are helping folks stay safe during this very dangerous time: “I love you more than ever , Miley,” the star concluded her post. OVer 250,000 residents of California have been evacuated as a result of this ongoing disaster. At last count, 31 people had died. Over 200 people have been reporting missing as a result of these wild fires. Indeed, congratulations are in order for Kate Upton: The supermodel just gave birth to her very first child! The 26-year old shared the blessed news on Saturday evening, alerting Instagram followers to the name and the gender of her and husband Justin Verlander’s precious offspring. We’ll let Upton take it from here… “Genevieve Upton Verlander. 11.7.18,” Kate simply wrote, confirming that the newborn came into official existence this past Wednesday. Verlander, who works as one of the best starting pitchers in all of Major League Baseball, posted a photo of the couple holding their little one’s hand. He wrote as a caption: “Welcome to the world Genevieve Upton Verlander. They’ve discussed marriage on Teen Mom OG, of course and honestly, Amber hasn’t seemed to be too into the idea. For example, during last season’s reunion, Andrew brought up the idea of a surprise proposal, and she shut it down pretty quickly. Answering one of her followers, she said “Yes, I have heard about the fires in Malibu and Calabasas.” “And my hubby is freaking out because his mom’s house is in Malibu and he has a lot of family that lives around that area.” She have a little update on that situation on Twitter after that, explaining that “Andrew’s family had to evacuate their home in Malibu.” It’s great that they were able to get to safety, and now that we know they’re all fine, we can focus on that one little word that Amber slipped in there. You know the one. So Amber called Andrew her “hubby” — short for husband, if you just managed to get an internet connection for that rock you’ve been living under. This could mean a couple of things. One, as we said earlier, they could already be married. Maybe Amber didn’t want any more criticism for moving so fast with Andrew — she got plenty of it when her big pregnancy news came out. Or maybe it’s just that she’s living a more private life in general. There’s also a chance that they’re saving the big reveal for Teen Mom OG. That would actually make a lot of sense, considering the show’s ratings haven’t been too stellar this season . Two, and this is the not-so-fun option, Amber could just be throwing words around. Lots of people call their boyfriends their “hubby,” and it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re married. The Portal and Portal Plus is a smart display device that could turn off potential users because it is always listening and always watching plus is connected to Facebook at all times. The smaller version of the Portal comes with a 10-inch 1280 x 800 display while the Portal Plus comes with a15-inch 1920 x 1080 pivoting display. Facebook’s goal with the introduction of both devices is to ” help you feel closer to the important people in your life and make video chats feel less like a call, and more like you’re actually in the same room.” Both models are powered by AI, Portal’s Smart Camera, and Smart Sound technology plus utilize voice control and Google’s smart assistant Alexa . You will be able to make video calls with friends on Facebook Messenger list and they the recipient of your calls don’t even need to have a Portal. Now for those who do still have security concerns, Facebook ensures they kept that issue in mind when making the Portal. You can disable the camera and microphone with the press of a single button, and if that isn’t enough for you, it comes with a small cover that will cover the camera’s lens. Facebook also states the device doesn’t listen to, view, or keep the contents of your Portal video calls. We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks,” the couple stated via their joint representative Chantal Artur. “Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time.” @adamhousley arrived at the hospital searching for his niece Alaina. A guard didn’t let him through, saying it was on lockdown. He said Alaina, a Pepperdine freshman, was at the bar with several friends.
