David Banner Questions Motives of Artists Moving In On Occupy Wall Street

‘All of us have become so corporate that people don’t even feel like we’re a part of the people,’ rapper tells MTV News. By Steven Roberts David Banner at Occupy Wall Street Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — David Banner wasn’t the first artist to visit Occupy Wall Street , and he certainly won’t be the last. But Banner questioned the true intentions of many of the artists taking part in the demonstrations. When MTV News followed Banner down to Manhattan’s Zuccotti Park last Thursday, he said others probably questioned their intentions as well. “One of my only criticisms of hip-hop right now is that we all — like everybody — we can’t separate ourselves. All of us have become so corporate that people don’t even feel like we’re a part of the people, especially rappers and punk rockers,” Banner said. “People always felt like we were them. We were their voice. “You look at what happened with Troy [Davis] . We’re still at war, we’re in a recession, where’s that in the music? I don’t hear that in the music,” he continued. “This is the general feeling that people won’t really say, but I hear it.” Banner said that in the aftermath of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, many rappers ran to the Gulf Coast to help, but only when cameras were there. Banner, who won a Visionary Award from the National Black Caucus of State Legislators for his efforts during the hurricane, said that many of those rappers disappeared once the cameras did. “That’s why I applaud somebody like Big Boi , like he still holding Troy [Davis] down. The thing is, we have to understand that it’s not about what you do when the cameras are on, it’s what you do when the cameras are off.” Banner also addressed the merits of the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators. People have questioned whether or not the demonstration is representative of everyone it claims it is, because the demonstrators are predominantly white. But Banner said that if upper-middle-class white kids weren’t there, the police wouldn’t be as patient with the demonstration. “They’d just send the police out there, throw some tear gas, plant somebody in there. Call it gang violence, whatever, ya’ll know what they do in the ‘hood,” Banner said. “When their children are out there is when it becomes a movement. And I used to fight that and be mad at that, but what we got to understand is, in every movement, even in the ’60s, young, white, middle-class people were a major part of the movement. We have to stop separating ourselves.” Related Videos Inside Occupy Wall Street Related Photos The Occupation Party Shakes Up Times Square Related Artists David Banner

Mandy Moore Signs On For ABC Sitcom

Single-camera comedy will be called ‘Us and Them.’ By Gil Kaufman Mandy Moore Photo: Getty Images Mandy Moore has long bounced between TV, movies and music, and now the “Princess Diaries” co-star is trying her hand at a sitcom. Moore, who has guested on “Scrubs,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “American Dreamz” in the past, will star in the new single-camera sitcom “Us and Them,” according to The Hollywood Reporter . The family comedy is described as the story of the “inherent conflict that exists between the families you grow up in and the ones we make as adults,” told through the perspective of Moore’s newlywed character Anne and her husband, Ben. Among the producers on the show are Jon Leshay, who was a music supervisor on a number of Moore movies, including “Saved!,” “How to Deal” and “A Walk to Remember.” “Night at the Museum” director Shawn Levy will direct and executive-produce the show. Moore voiced the lead character in last fall’s animated Rapunzel tale “Tangled” and appeared on this year’s Academy Awards broadcast singing the Oscar-nominated tune from the movie, “I See the Light.” While her music career has been on hold since 2009’s Amanda Leigh, husband Ryan Adams has just released his 13th studio album, Ashes & Fire, on which she sings backing vocals on the song “Come Home.” Moore is also slated to appear alongside the voices of Elijah Wood, Lance Henriksen and “Entourage” star Emmanuelle Chriqui on the upcoming animated TV series “Tron: Uprising,” which is slated to air on Disney XD next summer. She will voice the character Mara in the show, which takes place between the time of the original film and last December’s re-boot, “Tron: Legacy.” Related Artists Mandy Moore

My name is Giorgia, I am 15 years old and I am a Brazilieber! It…

My name is Giorgia, I am 15 years old and I am a Brazilieber! It all started when I knew that Justin was coming to my country. I was excited and I was waiting for this since 2008! I started counting the days to see him at his concert in RIO DE JANEIRO. I joined the website  BIEBERFEVER.COM  and saw the contest for MEET & GREET. I started doing everything the post said. I made a video with a friend (who I consider a sister, Catarina and a friend of mine, Victor, that helped with filming). We spent weeks spreading the word. I was talking about BieberFever all the time and thinking of ideas to make my video promoting the website. I prayed a lot to win the contest! The concert date was: 05/10/11, and if I won, they were going to send me the e-mail within less than 24 hours from the concert, but I was loosing hope. On 04/10 I checked my e-mail, just to be sure and I RECEIVED A E-MAIL SAYING THAT I WAS INVITED TO JUSTIN’S MEET & GREET ON 05/10! I STARTED CRYING, FREAKING OUT, CALLING MY MOTHER, THE FRIENDS THAT HELPED ME, MY BFF, EVERYONE! I could hardly sleep that night, all I could think was, “I WILL MEET JUSTIN DREW BIEBER TOMORROW”.  I woke up early to do my hair, nails, and the make up. I got there with my best friend Clarisse at 1:00 pm. There we met some friends and we were having so much fun. I had to leave at 5pm to meet Justin. I found the room and they told me that I have to show my ID. I was about to meet my inspiration! I met some amazing girls that won the  bieberfever.com  contest as well and we were talking to pass the time and wait for Biebs.  A woman came next to us saying, “Let’s go guys”. SO SHE WAS GUIDING US TO THE ROOM! I was the first girl to walk in and Justin said, “Hi, nice to meet you” I was really nervous, asked for a hug and kiss and he answered, “Of course”. He said I was beautiful, and that was loving Brazil! I talked with Alfredo and Kenny too. I left the room crying like never before and screaming, “I MET JUSTIN DREW BIEBERRRRRR”. It was the best experience of my life. He is wonderful, kind, smells amazing and more beautiful than you see in pictures. It was my biggest dream of mine and it came true. So beliebers who read this, please NEVER SAY NEVER, your dreams can come true. You just gotta believe and work hard. I hope this makes you trust yourself, and motivate you guys!! Kisses from. – @gimariinho See the original post: My name is Giorgia, I am 15 years old and I am a Brazilieber! It…

My name is  Andrea and I am 15 years old. A few days before…

My name is  Andrea and I am 15 years old. A few days before the bieberfever pre-sale, I cried and begged to join so that I would get better seats. My aunts and my mother kept saying NO. The day before, I remember it being August 9th, is when they said it was okay to join. On August 10th at 10:00am was when the pre-sale stared. I wanted 3 tickets for my cousin, my friend @Lorrysexybiebs and I, but the tickets sold out and I just got 2. The next Monday I got the tickets in my hand and could finally say, I am going to Justin Bieber’s concert. PLATINO ROW, D SEATS 7&8. For 2 years I have been waiting. I couldn’t believe I was going to see my idol, not only just in videos, tv, movies, etc. Also it would be the first show of his South American Tour! I was a little sad because on bieberfever.com, there was no M&G for Monterrey fans. Finally the day arrived, September 30th! When I woke up, I had nerves. I dressed up, waiting for my friend, my brother (who ended up getting a ticket!) and another friend. We went to the Arena Monterrey. After at 9:10pm, the light’s went off. When the countdown reached 0:00 I listened to this voice, this beautiful voice who it would recognize to thousands and thousands of kilometers. I heard, “IT’S JB!”  I began to cry, scream and sing! I was the most amazing concert of my life. – @iswaagbitch  Original post: My name is  Andrea and I am 15 years old. A few days before…

Mac Miller Breaks Down ‘Frick Park Market’ Video

‘It was a like a garden of girls and black light,’ Mac Miller tells MTV News of his latest clip. By Rob Markman Mac Miller in his “Frick Park Market” video Photo: Rostrum Records Making sandwiches while rapping isn’t as simple as you may think, but in his “Frick Park Market” video, Mac Miller makes it all look so easy. Filmed on location at his favorite Pittsburgh deli, Miller jumped behind the counter and got to work. Before we see Mac, however, we see his filthy-looking, gloveless hands putting together a turkey and cheese sandwich. “My hands aren’t really that dirty; that’s just the lighting,” Mac insisted when he broke down the video for MTV News. It’s not only his sandwich-making and lyricism the rapper puts on display. Mac also dresses up as his nerdy alter ego, Cam Rellum. Suited up in a blond Afro wig, blue tux and black-framed spectacles, the rapping version of Mac is impressed with his character portrayal. “I look so f—in’ awesome in that ’70s porno tuxedo, powder-blue,” the self-appraising Miller said jokingly. Miller also shines the light on his Most Dope crew. Jimmy drinks syrupy slushee mix straight from the Frick Park Market’s fountain, and TreeJay falls asleep atop the deli’s cash register. Looks like a good time, right? The party really gets started when Miller finds a secret door that leads to an alternate reality where models (painted in DayGlo paint) dance with furry animals under a black light. “The concept of that, it was like a garden of girls and black light,” Mac explained. “All these girls looked so sweet and trippy,” he remarked before revealing his original vision for the video’s models. “My idea was to put all the girls in onesie bathing suits and make them look like synchronized swimmers and put caps on ’em, but we just made ’em look trippy.” The video ends with Mac and friends rolling to Blue Slide Park , the neighborhood playground that he named his upcoming debut album after. “We all rolled up in costumes and kinda took over. These little kids were on the slide and we really just kinda bullied them off the slide and sent gigantic furries down the slide,” he said while laughing. “The parents were looking at me like, ‘Who is this?’ ” Mac Miller, duh!
