‘Moving’ Conan ‘Poster’ Looks Suspiciously Like a Banner Ad

Is this going to be a thing now? “Moving” posters, which look, act and feel like free banner ads that studios can get on various web sites under the guise of news? Because, if so: How come it took them so long to come up with this?! Talk about cost effective! Click ahead to see the moving poster for Conan , chuckle at the fact that Conan is standing on a mountain of skulls, then turn the sound off before your boss hears the unnecessary Hans Zimmer-like horn blares. What If The Expendables Were a Chick Flick?

Sylvester Stallone shrewdly put together an all-star team of ’80s action stars as the main gimmick behind this year’s The Expendables (out this week on DVD from Lionsgate), but while it’s nice that the movie gave the likes of Dolph Lundgren the chance to be in a film that played in U.S. theaters before going to home video, what about the unsung leading ladies of the Reagan years? Report: Box-Office Betting is a Go

Wall Street’s proposal to launch a futures exchange based on box-office receipts may have haters in Hollywood , but regulators in Washington are said to support the idea and may even green-light it in time for gamblers investors to wager on Iron Man 2 . Buried in Wednesday’s report is this winning quote from Lionsgate boss (and Hollywood Stock Exchange co-founder) Michael Burns: “If the studios have a chance to have an equity position in the actual exchange, if Cantor offers that, I think that’s a giant win-win. I think it will ultimately become a terrific hedging vehicle for the studios. You can buy corn futures, orange juice futures, it makes no sense you can’t buy movie futures.” In other words: Flop insurance, here we come ! [ Bloomberg ]
