Get to Know Your Ever-Growing List of Jeremy Renner Projects

Did you hear that sound? It was Jeremy Renner’s phone ringing with yet another movie offer. In the span of a year, The Hurt Locker star has gone from being a somewhat recognizable character actor to an Oscar nominee with pick of the Hollywood litter. Good for him and all, but damn — how many projects is Renner actually going to star in? Below, Movieline flips through Renner’s increasingly marked up calendar and helps you figure it all out.

First Look: Julie Taymor’s Insane Spider-Man Costume Designs

With all this talk about Marc Webb’s bigscreen Spider-Man reboot, you may have forgotten that Julie Taymor is still working on her troubled Broadway adaptation of the property, Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark . After seeing her costumes, though, you’ll never forget it again.

Hollywood’s 5 Most Well-Done Responses to 9/11

Hollywood was in a precarious position in the months and years following Sept. 11, 2001: Completely ignore the event and a filmmaker might seem callous or, at the very least, out of touch. Center an entire film around the tragedy and that same filmmaker could be accused of being exploitative. The industry obviously had to respond, but it had to be done right. There’s quite a difference between good filmmaking and a 9/11 reference only for the sake of tugging at already existing emotional strings (I’m talking to you, Remember Me ). It’s cheap. Though, some were done very well. We assembled a few examples of films over the last nine years which went about addressing those events of 2001 in a unique, thoughtful or poignant way.

Who Should Direct the Just-Announced Ronald Reagan Biopic?

Hollywood is giving Ronald Reagan’s life the big-screen treatment with a just-announced film based on not one, but two biographies of the former president. No director has yet to be signed, but if this take is really going to depart from the 2003 mini-series The Reagans we need to think outside the box. And so, I propose five directors to take on The Gipper’s life after the jump.

Joel McHale on Community’s Upcoming Apollo 13 Episode and the ‘Murderous’ Betty White

Community earned a lot of buzz in its first season on the air, but there’s still a lot of people who have yet to discover it, and Joel McHale met almost all of those people on the red carpet for the Chopard pre-Emmy bash in Los Angeles last weekend (among the odd questions he had to field: “Growing up, did you prefer the Backstreet Boys or N Sync?”). Needless to say, he was happy to actually talk about the show to Movieline, and dished on the cast’s recent Comic-Con sojourn, guest star Betty White, and his favorite unaired pilot.

Stacking Jack & Jill Up Against the Fake Adam Sandler Movies in Funny People

The news that Katie Holmes — and, apparently, Al Pacino!? — has been cast in Adam Sandler’s Jack & Jill came as a bit of a shock this morning… if only because it means Jack & Jill still exists. This is the movie that was announced last year with Sandler tapped to play “twin siblings at odds during Thanksgiving.” Seriously? Seriously. If that sounds like the pitch to one of the fake Sandler films from Judd Apatow’s Funny People , that’s probably because it might be. Ahead, Movieline pits Jack & Jill against the oeuvre of George Simmons.

Real Housewives of New Jersey Reality Check: Rolling With the Sucker Punches

On last night’s Real Housewives of New Jersey , Danielle Staub took a cue from the Oscar-winning film Million Dollar Baby and jumped into the boxing ring. An aspiring fighter ever since a teenager ripped the weave out of her head on last week’s episode, Danielle trained long two hours with Danny, the homophobic Clint Eastwood to her ghoulish Hilary Swank, hoping that somehow, they could both atone for their criminal pasts.

6 Films That Comic-Con 2010 Could Make or Break

Some movies are going into this year’s Comic-Con as returning heroes (like Tron Legacy , which has been shown off to great effect for two years running) or sure things (like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World , which could have been conceived in a Comic-Con test tube), but there are several big films that have a lot to prove at the Con — and a lot to lose. Here are six properties that could go either way:

The Joplinability Index: Ranking the Long List of Stars Rumored to Play Janis Joplin

With Amy Adams the latest actress rumored to be up for a Janis Joplin biopic — in one directed by City of God helmer Fernando Meirelles, no less — it seems like as good a time as any to take stock in the historically difficult and diverse “casting” process to see which actress would play the late vocalist. Ahead, Movieline offers a timeline of the events — and an index of the possibilities.

Ranking the Inevitable Christian Bale/Mel Gibson Rant Mash-Ups

It was only a matter of time before some enterprising* individuals got some Christian Bale in their Mel Gibson — one big supercollider of alpha-male angst, venom and decibels headed for the ultimate explosion. YouTube Nation has wrought at least six to date, with surely more to come; Movieline, meanwhile, has gathered and judged them like the trailblazing (if predictable) pop artifacts they are. Your mileage may vary; tell me if so. Need I say they’re all NSFW ?
