I dealt with anxiety and depression, began taking medication for my depression and anxiety and that’s when the weight gain began. It’s official: Joy Behar will not be the next Governor of Virginia. She may not be a host of The View for much longer, either. On Thursday morning, Behar and her co-panelists talked openly about a photo that has surfaced on social media, even including footage of the photo itself on air. It depicts Behar at a Halloween party in 2016, her face darkened in a controversial manner known as “Blackface.” This name was coined back in the 19th century after white performers used theatrical make-up to represent caricature of black people. Ever since, it’s been considered very insensitive and offensive for a non-black person to dress up or pretend to be a black person because it dredges up memories of slavery and civil rights violations. And yet… celebrities continue to get in trouble for the act . “I went as a beautiful African woman,” Behar said as an explanation for this look, which we’ve included below: “I had makeup that was a little bit darker than my skin – that’s my actual hair, though,” she added. Raven-Symoné seemed concerned upon seeing the picture, putting her co-host on the spot by asking: “Joy, are you black? Are you my auntie, Joy? Do you have tanning lotion on?” But while Behar seemed to brush off the incident as no big deal, essentially brushing it off as a normal Halloween costume, viewers and Twitter users are taking the comedian to task. Big time. “Megyn Kelly was fired from her show for asking a hypothetical question about blackface. Joy Behar actually wore blackface, and admitted it, and showed a picture of it on TV, yet she still has her job,” wrote one astute individual. This is a reference to how Kelly got canned by NBC after she questioned why blackface was a big deal . “Just a reminder that Megyn Kelly was fired for saying that blackface was acceptable when she was a kid (and not actually *participating* in blackface like all of these people.)” another person noted. Said Kelly during one of her final Today Show segments: ”What is racist? Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. “Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing like a character.” Kelly eventually made a public mea cupla – but then-colleague Al Roker said “she owes a bigger apology to folks of color around the country,” adding: “This is a history going back to the 1830s — minstrel shows, to demean and denigrate a race wasn’t right. “I’m old enough to have lived through Amos ’n’ Andy, where you had white people in blackface playing two black characters and just magnifying the worst stereotypes about black people. “And that’s what the big problem is.” DO YOU THINK JOY BEHAR SHOULD BE FIRED FOR HER OUTFIT?

Source: Bennett Raglin/BET / Getty Despite the fact that Jussie Smollett squashed the rumors that he made up his attack, folks like Joe Budden seem to remain skeptical. The rapper and reality star shared his thoughts about the “Empire” actors alleged hate crime on a recent episode of his podcast “ State Of The Culture.” He opened with going over the news about his attack. “[He] was allegedly brutally attacked recently in Chicago by ‘MAGA terrorists.’ They broke his ribs, they put a noose about his neck, they poured bleach on him and called him derogatory names. The FBI is on the case now but it has confirmed that a letter was previously sent to a FOX studio that contained threatening language and a powdery substance said to be Tylenol.” According to Hip New Hop News , while his co-hosts attempted to make the point that since President Trump has been elected that has been an uptick in hate and bias crimes committed over the years. “Why can’t we trust that there is black pain, that that has happened?” – @ScottieBeam responds to @JoeBudden ’s speculations of what happened to Jussie Smollett. #SOTC pic.twitter.com/93bOXSjwy1 — StateofTheCulture (@StateofCulture) February 6, 2019 Yet, Budden, who has been accused of domestic violence himself, refuses to believe Jussie’s version because he cannot fathom the idea that any Black man could wear a noose on his neck for 45 minutes after being attacked. The 38-year-old also made fun of the threatening letter allegedly sent to FOX saying it looked “like some bulls**t I saw in Austin Powers.” While Budden says that he believes that Jussie was attacked, he isn’t sold on the idea that it was a hate crime. “Famous rich people, when bad things happen and they want to cover the story because famous people to fuck shit sometimes like humans,” Joe stressed. “You cover the story to protect your image, your likeness and your career.” He concluded that Jussie may be preying on the emotions of the community to garner support and sympathy. “I’m waiting for footage. Just show me footage and I’ll shut the fuck up,” he said. Not surprisingly, some of Budden’s fans agreed with him, believing that Jussie’s story isn’t adding up: Man Joe Budden bust this Jussie Smollett story wise open. @theeonlyme and I been saying that something was off about it — ShaQuann (@MissShaLeJoan) February 2, 2019 Im glad that I’m not the only one who thinks Jussie is lying @JoeBudden pic.twitter.com/3vDTCdXbzp — sammiesopinion (@sammiesopinion) February 2, 2019 i cant wait til the truths comes out and the whole world has to say @JoeBudden was right about this nigga #Jussie Story and he just got beat up over Dick. ctfu — chucktheworld_ (@ChuckTheWorld_) February 6, 2019 However, there were also people who disagreed with Budden, asking their own questions about why folks are so quick to invalidate the pain Black LGBTQ folks face: Soooo #JoeBudden doesn’t believe Jussie was attacked.. Why LGBT Black men pain and experiences can never be acknowledged and validated. Is it not that valuable to us? God for bid this was Andy Cohen or Anderson Cooper no one would even question the story. — Petty J. Blige (@FxckgirlBri) February 5, 2019 There’s no reason for Jussie to lie. pic.twitter.com/zzi1coKT6H — Auntie Fan4ever (@1Truvet) February 5, 2019 Joe Budden needs to be cancelled for being out here questioning the authenticity of Jussie Smollett’s attack….. #alwaysurown pic.twitter.com/LpY0yj85tX — itstheCoConutWater (@DivaHoneyPri) February 6, 2019 Wow! Just wow! What is sad is that now in this day and age you need some mf receipts to prove you was attacked. Back then ya word was good enough and the family would be ready to go whoop whoever ass. Now we have show footage that he was beat to believe him? TF! #TheAudacity — TheChattyBlogger (@DaChattyBlogger) February 6, 2019 Budden isn’t the only Black celeb to publicly question the validity of Jussie’s attack. Recently, Azealia Banks posted on social media that this is nothing but “propaganda.” “Sorry…this is all promotion for the next season of empire/propaganda to make sure black for the DNC next go round,” she wrote in her IG Stories. “Loads of black people didn’t vote at all in the 2016 election which worked in Trump’s favor.” Girl, huh. Meanwhile, the Chicago Police Department are still looking for the two men involved in the attack. Source: Ciarra / Courtesy Ciarra This post originally appeared on A Girl Like Me , a blog for women and girls on The Well Project , and is part of collaboration with HelloBeautiful for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day . I have made a few mistakes in my life. Who am I kidding? I have made MANY mistakes in my life. And I ain’t even been alive that long. Some of those mistakes, I can effortlessly push underneath that figurative rug somewhere and pray I lose the memory. That way, no one else knows about the mistake. I can just act as though it never happened. And keep it moving. But then you have those others. You know, those other mistakes, which are a little more difficult to conceal. They loud. They make themselves known. There ain’t no running or no hiding from these type. Contracting HIV is one of those mistakes for me. This one I can’t escape. Sure, I could have kept the secret to myself. But in order to live healthy and well, I would have had to address it at some point. It wasn’t noooo hiding, shoving, or pushing this one, nowhere. I call it a mistake because I knew I should have used a condom. But I didn’t. I call it a mistake because people had attempted to guide me to safer choices. But I opted to do my own thing. And as a result, I contracted this virus. I contracted this dumb, stupid, ugly virus. If only I had done this or that, I would not be HIV positive today. For other people it may look like: … if only I had studied for that test, I would have passed that class. … if only I had ordered a rideshare that night, I would not have to serve the sentence attached to a DUI. … if only I had used a condom, I might not have contracted chlamydia. Look. I am not ashamed of my HIV positive status because, we have all made mistakes. They may not all look the same, but a mistake is a mistake is a mistake. Right? We all have done something that we wish that we could take back. The HIV mistake makes itself known daily. The reminder comes in the form of a once-a-day pill that I struggle to swallow. Other people may still be able to push their biggest mistakes to the back of their mind. I can’t. I gotta face mine. I’m tryna live and sh*t. Anyways, I’m sure that if we could go back and avoid making these mistakes, we would. And to me, that sounds like growth. So I must ask, what is there to be ashamed of in growth? If you’re a longtime fan of the Duggar clan, then you’re probably familiar with the name Laura DeMasie. Laura is Jana Duggar’s best friend , and some believe her to be much more than that. Yes, there have been persistent rumors that Jana and Laura are in love . That may seem absurd in the context of such a strict evangelical family as the Duggars, but in Jana’s case, a secretive same-sex affair would explain a lot. For starters, Jana is still single at the age of 29. That may not seem like a big deal, but it’s virtually unheard of for the Duggars — a family that teaches their daughters that procreation is their primary reason for being. Obviously, that doesn’t mean Jana is “single” because she’s not permitted to publicly pursue a relationship with Laura. However, it’s worth noting that these two spend a lot of time together — pretty much every waking moment. Laura assists Jana with her many household tasks, including homeschooling her younger siblings, and the two regularly appear on one another’s social media pages. At one point, 33-year-old Laura lived with the Duggars in order to assist in educating Jana’s younger siblings full-time. That’s all about to change, however, as Radar Online reports that Laura will be moving to Georgia to pursue her goal of becoming an interior decorator. Laura has reportedly accepted a position with a company called Accent Decor, Inc. She excitedly announced the news on her Facebook page this week, revealing that she believes design to her true calling in life. “We were CREATED TO CREATE! Go create something beautiful!” DeMasie wrote. Many fans noted that while the wording of the post made it sound as though Laura is planning to move in the near future, DeMasie’s other social media activity makes it seem as though she’s already left Arkansas. The abrupt nature of Laura’s departure — and the fact that Jana has yet to make any mention of it — has led some fans to the conclusion that DeMasie was “strongly encouraged” to relocate by Jana’s famously strict father, Jim Bob. That may sound like a reach, but considering how much of the Duggar media empire is based on ultra-conservative values, an openly gay daughter would be devastating to the brand. News of Laura’s departure comes on the heels of another Jana-related scandal. An alleged former suitor of Jana’s named Caleb Williams was arrested for rape last month after allegedly having sex with an underage girl. So if Jana was ever romantically involved with either Caleb or Laura, we guess the past few weeks have cemented her reputation as being extremely unlucky in love. Source: Prince Williams / Getty Sign The Petition To Help Free 21 Savage From ICE Custody 21 Savage has become a victim of this anti-immigrant political climate helmed by the Trump administration. If you listened to the #SOTU address last night then you know that the idea of 21 being deported from America would make these Republican a$$holes smile like the Grinch stealing Christmas. Despite the shameless people on Twitter who think this is hilarious, there are people who are treating this situation with the seriousness it deserves. The folks at Since The 80s, Black Lives Matter, Color of Change, BAJI (Black Alliance For Just Immigration), Define American, UndocuBlack Network have launched a petition directed at ICE Field Office Director, Sean Gallagher for the immediate release of the Atlanta father, son, friend and superstar. They are asking for 300,000 signatures and they are sitting on 221,776 at the time of this writing. We ask, beg, and implore each and every one of you to sign this petition and do all you can to make your voice heard on behalf of Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph. 21’s manager Meezy recently tweeted that he spoke to Savage on the phone and was told that the rapper is being locked down for 23 and 1, which means only ONE hour outside of his cell per day. They are clearly trying to break him, but we’re not going to let that happen. Go to OrganizeFor to sign the petition. Dead the corny “jokes” and do something good with your life.

Jennifer Lawrence has struck a deal with a very special high-end art dealer: She has agreed to marry him! Indeed, according to multiple outlets, the Oscar-winning actress is now engaged to someone named Cooke Maroney. (We guess she isn’t so gross after all, huh, Lala Kent? ) The 28-year old actress was spotted out and about in New York City over the weekend wearing what Page Six described as a “massive ring” while dining at Raoul’s, an upscale French restaurant. “It was a giant rock. They seemed like they were celebrating and people were talking about it,” a source told this section of The New York Post, adding: “The ring was very noticeable. They were sitting back in a corner. She was wearing a cute black dress with white polka dots.” A few days prior to this outing, Lawrence and Maroney were seen in The Big Apple’s West Village, also looking like two people very much in love. News of Lawrence and Maroney’s romance went viral in June of 2018, making this a semi-fast engagement. They’ve only been dating for about six or seven months. The two were subsequently spotted together in Paris, Rome and New York on multiple occasions, with one insider saying the following to Us Weekly about the relationship: “They definitely appear to be in it for the long haul. “Cooke plays very coy when speaking about her to his friends and colleagues. He is clearly smitten about her.” The beloved Hunger Games star was previously linked to Nicholas Holt from 2011 to 2014… Chris Martin in 2015 … and director Darren Aronofsky from 2016 to 2017. This bombshell report now raises a very obvious question to readers and fans: Who the heck is Cooke Maroney? A few facts about the future Mr. Jennifer Lawrence: – As mentioned above, he works as an art dealer. Specifically, he works at the Gladstone 64 gallery in New York’s Upper East Side — and one of the gallery’s biggest clients is Lena Dunham’s artist father, Carroll Dunham. – His parents own a farm. For real! According to Cosmopolitan, Cooke’s mom and dad, James Maroney and Suki Fredericks, own Oliver Hill Farm in Vermont, where he grew up. – He isn’t the jealous type. This is just an assumption, but Lawrence brought Maroney as her date to the September premiere of The Favourite, the Oscar-nominated movie that stars her ex, Hoult. But Lawrence has said on record that she remains close to all of her exes. “I don’t think that you can have any sort of bad relationship with anybody if you’re just blunt,” she told Marc Maron on a podcast in February 2018. “Everybody always knows how you feel at all times and there’s no lying, it’s just honesty. Everybody’s a good guy to each other. … Every time I go through a breakup, it’s not like my heart isn’t broken. They just never did anything to like, devastate me. They were just good people.” Well, she’ll never go through a breakup again. Hopefully. Congrats to Cooke Maroney and Jennifer Lawrence!

Source: Splash News / Splash News On this fine Black History Month, Liam Neeson shocked the Internet when he revealed that he once went looking for a “Black bastard” to kill after a close friend of his was raped. Neeson made the confession in an interview with Independent when he was promoting his new flick Cold Pursuit. While explaining his character’s need for revenge, Liam described an instance when his friend was raped and she told Liam that a Black man did it. In fits of anger, Neeson said he would roam the streets with a cosh (a bar used as a weapon) looking for the nearest Black man to provoke him: “I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody – I’m ashamed to say that – and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some [Neeson gestures air quotes with his fingers] ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could…kill him.” Many online souls were flabbergasted by Liam’s words. Liam Neeson didn't say he wanted to kill his friend's rapist….which you could chalk up to revenge…..bruh straight up said he wanted to kill any black man…..if you're defending him….you're just as trash as he is…. — Bae Mama (@mc_magic1887) February 4, 2019 Liam Neeson being ready to take any Black life over what one person allegedly did just shows how meaningless and inconsequential black lives are to some. Even him telling the story demonstrates a level of privilege and understating that there may not be repercussions. — Frederick Joseph (@FredTJoseph) February 4, 2019 Yup so Liam Neeson is definitely cancelled. — King K. (@Unkle_K) February 4, 2019 Liam then went on Good Morning America on Tuesday to clarify his story… But he just made things worse. In his interview with Robin Roberts, Liam said “There were some nights I went out deliberately into Black areas in the city, looking to be set upon so that I could unleash physical violence.” He continued: “And I did it maybe four or five times, until I caught myself on and it really shocked me, this primal urge I had. It shocked me, and it hurt me. I did seek help. I went to a priest who heard my confession…[I had] two very, very good friends that I talked too, and believe it or not, power walking two hours everyday to get rid of this. I’m not racist, this was nearly 40 years ago.” Like whaaaa??? First off Liam, you said you deliberately went into Black neighborhoods to take out your anger on any random Black person. This is, in fact, racist. Like…you didn’t go to the nearest Whole Foods in your neighborhood to find a Black person. You specifically went into Black neighborhoods to enact terror. And even if your need for revenge has subsided over the years, you’ve yet to acknowledge that your targeting of Black communities was racist, which proves you still have some racism up in your bones. Finally… And listen closely… If you’re a White person, you should more readily assume you are racist, rather than believing you’re not. It’s times like these that self-identified “non-racist” White people love to distance themselves from other White people who are blatantly racist, because if there’s one thing that “non-racist” White people H A T E, it’s to be called racist. “I’m not like that horrible Liam Neeson who said he wanted to beat a random Black person,” said your random White neighbor. “I would NEVER say the N-word,” said your White lover. “Liam Neeson is canceled,” said the White head of your marketing team. I get you “non-racist” White person. But what about your racist cousin demanding more police presence in their newly gentrified neighborhood ? What about your racist uncle who bought private prison stock when Trump got elected ? It can be outright dangerous to use Liam’s actions as the sole measuring stick for racism. Wanting to kill a random Black person is the tip of the iceberg and the most primal manifestation of racist attitudes. But the system of racism is inherently violent and White people either participate in it or benefit from it. Racism, and especially anti-Black racism, is a system of power that subjugates Black people in all corners of society, from institutions to your own personal circles. While Liam’s attitude might be an inter-personal manifestation of racism, the wealth gap between races is just one example of institutional racism that White people can benefit from. A 2019 study by the Institute for Policy reported that the median Black family today owns $3,600, which is just 2% of the wealth median White families own at $146,984. On top of this, median White wealth is continuing to increase, while median Black wealth is on track to reach zero by 2082, according to the report. This major gap is due to years of wealth-stripping practices aimed at Black people in the housing market , prison-police systems and more. Now you’d think with such reports, there’d be complete social media outrage from “non-racist” White people demanding more research on the racial wealth divide, discriminatory practices and the need for reparations . The same criminalization of Black people enacted by Neeson is the same criminalization used to keep Black people out of wealth stability and instead, in prisons and resource-stripped environments. Is this not the groundwork for targeted violence? Are the “non-racist” Whites starting a social media campaign around this? If they’re aware of these issues and do nothing, aren’t they complicit in racism? Any White person claiming they’re not racist is not beneficial to anti-racist work. In contrast, it might be better for a White person to say “how do I benefit from racism” or “how can I be less racist today?” Part of this can be just doing your research on how systematic racism can be violent along with searching for the nearest Black person to pummel with a “cosh.” I understand violence is on a spectrum and might require different reactions, but “I’m not racist” attitudes aren’t helping the conversation. Racism is normal. The goal is to make it not normal on all levels.
